| raventongue09-30-04, 10:04 PM | Much of the main continent is said to be guided by the laws of Galipher. Galifer? *shrug* Maybe this has been knocked around already... couldn't find it with the search.. Is there somewhere that lists examples of these laws? Or a feel for the Justice that can be found? I would love to try and run a townguard campaign or freelance investigator through one of the many cities. It would be a time saver for me if a few guidlines existed. Punishment for crimes? What constitutes a crime? Are crimes within the houses or guilds investigated by the same people that investigate crime in the general public? Or is it all in house and hushed up from the public. Any ideas from the group or better something in print? Did I miss this in the campaign book? Couple of pages stuck together? |
| GMSteve09-30-04, 10:06 PM | It is buried in the section on Aurandil, can't remember the exact page, but basically there is one paragraph addressing it somewhere in the upper right hand corner.... Sorry could not be more help... |
| debatedeus09-30-04, 11:29 PM | Hellcow has said that more on the Galifar code will appear in the Sharn Sourcebook due out in November. A while to wait, but hey, party when it happens. |
| mistakeagian10-01-04, 01:08 AM | Yeah, I asked Keith. As noted he said it would be covered in the Sharn book. I would say for now, just go with common sense. No theft of property, No murder, etc... I kinda like the idea of outlaws in the true sense of the word. As in some laws when broken set you outside the law. Say you murder someone, you get fined and jail time, but when you get out the family of the person murdered is not held liable if they kill you in return. The law doesn't apply to you in that instance. Basically, just go with the laws you want. Even after the laws are covered its still your campaign, the Galifar code is what you want it to be. |
| Saurenda10-01-04, 01:31 AM | The rules of Galifar that ruly stick out in my mind are the recent ones developed at Thronehold. One of which in particular relating to House Cannith that they may never assemble, nor operated a working Creation Forge again to produce new warforged or anything else. I suppose the people of Galifar have certain inaleiable rights, and aren't subject to harassment some are in Karrnath, though they endure it anyway because they love thier king. Four more lifespans! Someother laws of Galifar may be that as a citizen you are not protected, nor expected to survive if you leave the country for particular spots. Necromancy would be considered a crime for disturbing the resting places of others, yet again in Karrnath despite the fact nobles and other protested Kauis implemented this. The more I think about it, the more I think that Karrnath is a place that has borken a lot of laws for the sake of keeping itself alive and lawful. In that country just about anything can happen in terms of punishment and interpretation of the law. |
| GMSteve10-01-04, 01:45 AM | I can't remember the page perse - but there is a paragraph or two in the Aurndail section of the book. I think that it states that you are basically innocent until proven guilty, and get a jury of your peers, and that there is a complex legal system, so that if you have a good councilor you can get off, which is why there are so many criminal orginazations, but if you don't then you can expect swift justice, i will find the page number when I get home. I used it in a recent game, when the main suspect in the adventure was a veteran, and a small time magistrate was holding him. Well he had connections in Passage, and a councilor was being sent up to get him released, the magristrates hands would be tied, so the players only had a few days to solve the crime, before this guy went free.... |
| mistakeagian10-01-04, 02:03 AM | Pg. 141 6th paragraph down first column. Its simple mention of the code. I am looking for others... By the by, Karrnath is under Martial Law. And I am sure, since each nation is now soverign they have made their own modifications to the Code. I doubt the Deneith Sentinel Marshals would hang out in Karrnath if they completely gave up on the Code. |
| raventongue10-02-04, 08:59 PM | Actually Passage is where I'm considering basing the game. Train Depot with repair industry plus a thriving fishing industry. House Orien and a quick chocobo ride to the floating wizards enclave. I'm going to be up to my elbows in NPC's before I know it. I'll definitely grab the Sharn sourcebook. It's not that far away... *sigh* Besides I still need time to design a city or at least a district within the city and figure out the first mystery to daunt the players. And a map. Hmmm... Have to go digging for resources. Thanks again! If anyone happens to be looking over Keith's shoulder when he's tidying up those laws just snag a copy and post them here will you? |
