| Save-vs-DM08-17-05, 09:23 AM | Has anyone else notice that the Siberys marks have a negative space that is eactly the same shape as the least mark of the house? Or is it just me? Cheers, Save vs DM |
| Splendide08-17-05, 09:32 AM | Its fairly prominent. |
| Salla08-17-05, 04:48 PM | I just noticed it myself a few days ago, as I was looking at the various marks and seeing if they resembled anything (in that 'that cloud looks like a pony' kind of way). |
| Thrincold08-17-05, 05:00 PM | yes they all have that negative space. And all of the Syberus marks resemble a stylized dragon. |
| Kid SixXx08-17-05, 05:02 PM | Has anyone else notice that the Siberys marks have a negative space that is eactly the same shape as the least mark of the house? Yep, and it's probably there by design. From the Heir of Siberys PrC text: Siberys marks are clearly related - visually, thematically, and genetically to the other marks in their house (ECS 80, emphasis added) Doesn't surprise me that the negative space is there. Probably the prophesy's way of noting a Siberys mark from an aberrant mark, allowing dragonmarked scions to do the same... and act accordingly. |
| Vharuck08-17-05, 05:08 PM | If you look at them and notice things, most of the dragonmarks resemble a dragon in different poses (rearing, in flight, resting, etc.) and do so more and more the more powerful they become. Also, each mark seems to "grow" from the last one, and the last mark is usually able to be seen in the middle. |
| ChronosCrow08-17-05, 07:00 PM | Yeah, I noticed the progression bit and the negative inside the siberys mark. I just thought it was already mentioned, guess not. Neat designs and a nice way to tie the things together. |
| Greyseed08-17-05, 11:47 PM | As a related aside, I just wanted to note the "Double-head", on all the marks of Shadow. |
| Giarc08-17-05, 11:54 PM | As a related aside, I just wanted to note the "Double-head", on all the marks of Shadow. Could it be the dragon and it's shadow? :D |
| Save-vs-DM08-18-05, 01:48 AM | Could it be the dragon and it's shadow? :D Oh, that's bad! :P |
| taski08-18-05, 01:50 AM | I've always thought the Siberys Mark of Scribing looked like an elephant's head wearing a little hat. I did notice that most of the other Siberys marks vaguely resemble dragons. To me, the least marks mostly aren't dragons, but representations of the marks' powers -- an eye for detection, dowsing rod for finding, yolk for handling, pen and scroll for scribing, thing with a shadow for shadow, and a raincloud for storm. The rest I haven't been able to figure out yet. |
| ChronosCrow08-18-05, 04:09 PM | As a related aside, I just wanted to note the "Double-head", on all the marks of Shadow. THAT'S what that is! Man, I thought it just looked kinda messed up, but no. I makes some modicum of sense now. Nice catch. |
| Save-vs-DM08-18-05, 04:59 PM | It's kind of funny what you can read into these marks... I always think that the mark fo making looks like a harp to me... Cheers, Save vs DM |

| Taigis08-18-05, 07:34 PM | I noticed that a while back. I havent been able to determine what the stylized least marks of Healing, Passage, and Hospitality represent. I also like how the image of the warforged on the cover of the ECS is sitting on a Greater Mark of Warding (compare the black marks extending just beyond the edges of that image with the Mark on page 66). I havent figured out what the Mark on the back of the ECS represents. Taigis |

I havent figured out what the Mark on the back of the ECS represents. Taigis Wow, you're totally right. From what I can tell the backcover one looks like a partial amount of the Greater mark of Healing. Look how those 2 pieces hook out, it's about mid way on the left side of the Greater mark (pg. 54). Plus after that on the other side a part hooks out on the right side that suggest the same portion on the healing mark. |
| Edymnion08-18-05, 07:51 PM | Yeah, Keith has mentioned a couple times that the shapes of the dragonmarks were supposed to be reminicent of dragons, and that the inverted least mark inside of the syberis mark is supposed to be some sort of clue as to the nature of the syberis marks, but he won't go into any detail on the subject :( |

I've heard it from him before and I'm just puzzled by it. |

Perhaps that Mark changed during its creation or they altered it to not obscure the other artwork on the back cover (most likely). Then again, it could be the Mark of Death. ;) That would say something if the fundamental design of the Mark of Healing and the Mark of Death were similar. Taigis |

If thats the case, one can see that the Eberron dragonmarks rest at the heart of the Syberis dragonmarks much like Eberron (the planet) is surrounded by Syberis (the ring). Taigis |
| Earthbinder08-18-05, 09:45 PM | my ideas for the Marks and what the Least marks represent: Sivis = Quill and scroll Lyrandar = Storm cloud Medani = Eye Tharaskh = Arrow Vadalis = Bird in flight Jorasco = Wound being stitched Ghallanda = A Boiled Ham on a Platter Cannith = Lyre (harps have always been associated with celtic building myths) Orien = a Bridge Denieth = Man with Sword and Shield Phiarlan/thuranni = A man(elf) and their shadow (the Syberis Dragonmark is two dragons fighting) Kundarak = Padlock |

Each one looks like it's houses "Mascot Animal" Cannith = bull (two horns) Denieth = chimera (3 parts = heads) Ghallanda = Dog (lower right hand side is nose) Jorasco = Griffon (beak pointing down at right hand side) Kundarak = manticore (wings at sides with tail pointing down at left) Lyrandar = squid (down points = tentacles) Detection = Eye of Basilisk or basilisk head (upper left = nose) Orien = Unicorn (horn pointiing up at left side, nose down) Sivis = chicken head (cockatrice) Phiarlan = hydra (2 heads) Thuranni = displacer beast (2 things = tentacles) Tharashk = Dragonne Head (Mane at upper left) Vadalis = rearing hippogriff Of course, as time goes on, they look more dragonlike. my :twocents: |
| Edymnion08-18-05, 10:58 PM | Heh, nothing like looking at inkblots, is there? :P |
| Taigis08-18-05, 11:22 PM | my ideas for the Marks and what the Least marks represent: Sivis = Quill and scroll Lyrandar = Storm cloud Medani = Eye Tharaskh = Arrow On these, I agree. Though someone suggested Tharashk as a Dowsing Rod which is a really good idea. Vadalis = Bird in flight I think Vedalis looks like a Saddle. Jorasco = Wound being stitched Good idea. I can sorta see that. Ghallanda = A Boiled Ham on a Platter Not really seeing that one. Maybe its a fruit like an apple. *shrug* I don't have any good ideas here. Cannith = Lyre (harps have always been associated with celtic building myths) I agree. Orien = a Bridge Another good idea. It could also be a set of stairs. Denieth = Man with Sword and Shield Phiarlan/thuranni = A man(elf) and their shadow (the Syberis Dragonmark is two dragons fighting) I see more of the draconic aspect than them representing men *shrug* but its stylized. Kundarak = Padlock Thats a decent idea. I see that, too. My initial thought was that its an eye like Medani. *shrug* Taigis |
| ralixgaudreau08-18-05, 11:33 PM | Has anyone else notice that the Siberys marks have a negative space that is eactly the same shape as the least mark of the house? Or is it just me? Cheers, Save vs DM It was one of the first things I noticed when looking at the artwork for the dragonmarks. (The second being that many of the marks look like dragons in various poses.) It's like an artistic representation that the Siberys mark can't exist where the least mark does, and vice versa. One of the many cool details that had me saying "Wow!" out loud the first time I read the ECS. :) |
| Decree Of Boredom08-19-05, 12:45 AM | Could it be the dragon and it's shadow? :D More like two houses, I think. |
| Salla08-19-05, 02:45 PM | Heh, nothing like looking at inkblots, is there? :P Greetings, I'm Rorschach d'Jorasco. Just look at these dragonmarks, and tell me what you see ... |
