Does anyone know what the properties of her armor may be in the Shattered Land? It basically acted like a rapid infusion feat. Any other ideas? Thanks.

+1?

Honestly, that's all it needs to be. Perhaps it has some special properties that are DM ajudicated. I see Daine's sword as a +1 or just a MW with some secret ability to be unlocked as a plot device.

Well I think their may be more to it. It was a family heirloom and she reduced the casting time of her infusion from 1 minute to 1 round. Maybe Studded Leather +1 and it grants Rapid Infusion as a bonus feat?

I think the armor only reduces the casting time for infusions cast directly onto the armor.

Or Action Points?

No, she's not spending AP (otherwise she'd burn through them at a fast rate). I think Keith Baker himself said on his website that the armor's special ability lets her forgo the use of AP, but only for some infusions.

IIRC, Keith stated that it's actually a minor artifact that lets her quicken infusions as if she had spent an action point - all the time. That's what I remember, anyway.

The two traits I have seen the armor as having (and this may be called out more specifically in Gates of Night, I don't remember for sure...) are that she can use armor augmentation as a standard action, and that the armor has a small, renewable battery of energy (read "experience points")... essentially allowing her to use spell-storing item more frequently than the average artificer.

So she does *usually* have to take a minute to use SSI, but she can use it frequently (and she does) without dropping a level behind everyone else.

And yes, I do consider it a minor artifact (created by Alder d'Cannith)... otherwise, every artificer would have one!

Maybe minor artifact and PC shouldn't be in the same sentence.

I prefer the term "unique magic item".

That armor sounds pretty kick butt! When you say renewable battery of energy do you mean a small experience pool that replenishes over time? I don’t know what “experience points” article you are talking about. Thanks.

I would agree.

That is what I mean. When I said "Read 'experience points'", I meant "when I say 'energy', you should read it as 'experience points'"... not that there was an article called "experience points". ;)

Oh, and when I say "use armor augmentation as a standard action", I just mean "more quickly than usual". She still has to perform the infusion, use the slot, etc.

Heh, I considered it a plot device...
And essentially, that is what it is. I'm suggested what it would be based on what's already been seen; however, that doesn't mean that it might not have other properties, or that Lei might be misinterpreting something. That's why I haven't posted stats for the characters. I *could* do it... but as long as I don't, I can always change things around. ;)

I prefer the term "unique magic item".Well, thats basically what "minor artifact" means. It isn't a term that describes how powerful the item is, as dwarven glowglobes aren't very powerful at all, but a measure of rarity. Essentially, the only defining aspect of a minor artifact is that it is a magical item that the PCs cannot make, typically because the technique has been lost to time.

I'd say Lei's armor fits very neatly into the catagory of minor artifact. It is a moderately powerful magic item, it is unique in that nobody else knows how to make one, and to top it off it does things that nothing else can really do.

So yeah, I would agree that its a minor artifact, which is virtually synonymous with "unique magic item", IMO at least.

The Cauldron of Boldrei isn't even called a *minor* artifact, just an artifact. And what it does is, after all, rather impressive from an objective standpoint, it's just not powerful from an adventurer standpoint.

(For those of you who haven't read Sharn: City of Towers, it's this big immovable cauldron that produces enough gruel to feed a hundred people for a day every day, and has done so reliably for thousands and thousands of years. It may not be a big deal to you, but to the poor of that particular district it sure is.)

Er, sure they should be.

If artifacts exist in your game at all, someone's gotta have them, and the nature of the game means it's gonna be a BBEG, a godlike "Gandalf" DMPC, or the PCs themselves. And it's always better if you can get the PCs involved.

If the novels were actually a campaign, then Lei had *better* be a PC. Creating an NPC with an artifact like that who gets all up in the PCs' business without the PCs' limitations is the kind of thing jerk DMs do.
