| Flamy07-03-04, 10:41 PM | I know that this has probably crossed the minds of most of you, but I really want to see this happen. See, I want to make the Korranberg Chronicle. But I don't want to just make an issue, I want to bring life to this wonderful institution. Here's what I think we should do. We'll make actual NPCs who are the reporters, editors, printers, ect. We'll give them actual stats and background. Well even take on their roles and write articles as them. I know it seems like a lot of work, and I know it might clash a bit with other's ideas, but I can see this work. All we need is dedicated writers and readers, along with some good roleplaying from all the Ebberonies. Now, from what I understand from actual newspapers and the information provided in the setting I believe that it should include these sections: 1-News from accross Khoravaire 2-Adventurer's tales 3-Astrology 4-Sports Course, I could be wrong, which is the main reason for why I want everyones help. So, if your interested, say so. We can all work on this and bring life to another great part of this great setting. |
| Pallis07-04-04, 04:12 AM | Ok, I'm in. I could be the correspondent you're looking for from our wonderful city of Fairhaven in Aundair. I've enough contacts to keep my finger on the pulse and assure you that whatever information passes through this city finds its way to me as assuredly as Vult follows Aryth. I've previously worked on The Rising Star (you may have heard of it?) a publication that was forced out of business several years ago when foul creatures rose up from the depths and destroyed our printing works. This could be just the opportunity I'm looking for. Send me word via House Orien and we'll discuss the matter further. ** so yeah, I'll write for you if you like. Just wondering, I write the magazine for a national company here in the UK and use Publisher a fait bit. Are you looking for something that will be posted here, on these message boards, or would you prefer something sent out to subscribers emails on a private basis? If so, what sort of page length should the Chronicle run at? Come back to me with details, Flamy. Interested in hearing more. Also, take a look at the Warforged Puppet theatre thread somewhere below. The guy who writes that has a real talent for fiction (not that we'll be making this stuff up, heaven forbid! We're journo's now, ha ha) and so you'd do well to try and recruit him. |
| Pallis07-04-04, 04:17 AM | Also Flamy, wander along to the Wyr development thread. If you've a creative spark at your fingertips, I could use some help here... |
| Jimmy_Groove07-04-04, 09:44 AM | You can reach me at jimmy_groove@hotmail.com I'd love to get invovled. I've published a bit for White Wolf's Sword and Sorcery Line, so I know my way around the written word for D&D, and I'm a pretty decent webmaster. This sounds like a great hobby to take up. I can already imagine some of the things I could write. Serious stuff: Ardon Kriess' Tales of Xen'drik. (tales of adventure from the forgotten land, written by a gnome who gets constant reports but feels the need to embellish them a bit, "Rough Riders" style) Humour: Ask Breaker: (An advice column written by a Warforged who doesn't understand relationships but is just clever enough to realize that he's the butt of human jokes) |
| Pallis07-04-04, 01:50 PM | Hello Jimmy! So how would this work? If you're looking to set up a website, we should figure out a few things. 1: Regularity of issues 2: Content - page length and number of articles, etc. 3: Number of people writing and in what area they're specialising 4: We should probably see if we can get an illustrator on board 5: Logo design (nb: illustrator, graphic design artist) There's more, without doubt, but those are the few initial points I'd like to raise. Also, my concern is that I would expect to see official Wizards of The Coast Chronicle articles at some point, probably like the Dragonshards series of web updates, and feel that our version of the Chronicle would sooner or later become redundant. Better, I think to form our own Chronicle, perhaps ressurecting The Rising Star out of Fairhaven's printing works or another suitable journal of our own choosing. That way we don't lose whatever authenticity we're lending to the articles... Come back to me with your answers, and Flamy, if you're about, as the originator of this thread, let's know what you think. |
| Flamy07-04-04, 03:51 PM | Wow, I never expected to get response from people with actual writing expirience. I thought it'd be a bunch of guys like me who like writing but have little or no expirience. I like the ideas you guys have brought here. Now, to answer a few of Pallis' questions: In my mind I had the illusion of having something that looked authentic, though I knew that realistically the best I can pull off is Microsoft Word. If you can make it better, by all means do. Also, I think you shouldn't worry much about WotC releasing and actual Chronicler on Dragonshards, since we will be making an issue. And, as you said, we wont be making stuff up. Well, not much anyways. Well have to make some stuff up, like some of the breaking news, the Astrology and columns like Jimmy's "Ask Breaker". Most of the content, however, should come from people telling us their expiriences in Eberron. Many articles could be based off that. Actually, most should. I'm a rookie at this, so all your help will be greatly appreciated. And now, before I leave, I'd like to present you guys with my Eberron reporter self, Patches the Gnome! If you ask Patches, he'll tell you he's just a typical gnome who's search for knowledge has led him to become a reporter. This isn't far from the truth, though those who have worked alongside Patches will tell you there's more to it than that. Patches sepnds his whole life traveling accross Khoravaire. He usually joins up with any group od adventurers he finds, and usually writes down their adventures, whether these be with of without him. He also does articles about important evenst accross the continent, though these are rare form him. Patches is famous for two things. The first is his famous phrase,"The people have a write to know." Rare is the article written by Patches which doesn't contain this phrase somewhere in it's beggining. The second thing are the games he usually inserts into his articles. One of these is the ever famous "Guess my name." Patches challenges readers to guess his true name, giving hints about it through his articles. However, these clues are usually something like "My name is not Turkin" or "My name is not something yellow". That's about it for now. I had a lot thought out, but I never wrote it down and forgot it. Oh well, I got the important stuff here. Jimmy, Pallis, if were going to do this we need information. Search the boards, interview the players. The people have a right to know what's goes on accross Khorvaire and beyond! |
| Pallis07-04-04, 04:54 PM | Ok Flamy...or should that be Patches(?), let's get this show on the road, the printing press running and the correspondents sending in their accounts of breaking news. I really like the idea of Jimmy's website, and, if you're able to put something together, Jimmy, it could really be fantastic. I'm sure that quite a few people would drop by if we posted a reguar link to the Chronicle site on these message-boards. Perhaps even Keith would care to contribute...? So...what date, Eberron time, are we setting our first issue for? I'll develop some stuff tomorrow during lunch-break and will be back soon. Also, you seen the Eberron portraits thread on these message-boards? I think we may have our illustrator if he can be recruited to the cause of Korranberg's next, highly anticipated issue... |
| Jimmy_Groove07-04-04, 05:35 PM | I work in the hotel business so I've got a busy week. Ask me in... say... two days. Then I should be able to get to work on things. |
| Pallis07-04-04, 05:42 PM | No problem Jimmy. I've just PM'd you with contact details so email me when you get chance. Look forward to it... |
| Tobias_the _invincible07-04-04, 09:41 PM | Well I'm all up to help out. I'm a student, so I've got plenty of time at the moment. I'll help in any way I'm asked. |
| Flamy07-04-04, 09:47 PM | Perfect! We have a team assembeled. Course, this doesn't mean that we cant have more people. Newspapers have many people working for them, so your all invited to contribute. Now, I have an article planned, though this might be more of an adventure hook. This means that, sadly, it'll be made up. But part of our Chronicler is to give DMs adventure hooks, right? Also, I'd like to make an open call for all who are currently playing or will soon play in an Eberron Campaing. The adventurer's section of the Korranberg Chronicler involves real heroes, so your stories should be the ones to enter it. Just PM me your story. Don't PM them to Pallis, at leats not unless he says you can. Can't speak for someone else as Flamy, can I? Edit: Hadn't noticed your post Tobias. Your help is greatly appreciated. Currently (or at least I think so) were working on getting a few articles done. Some art would also be appreciated. Whichever you can provide will be greatly appreciated. |
| elaith1907-04-04, 09:53 PM | Hey there everyone, It's a splendid idea you've got there. I am actually thinking about helping you guys out but I am unsure of what I could contribute to your venture. I am a Document coordinator at Sears Canada so if you want I can offer to proofread your stuff before it gets to the 'printing press'.... Let me know if that is of any interest to you guys! |
| jedi818707-04-04, 10:00 PM | I will be starting an online campaign tomorrow, and will be happy to give small excerpts from the adventures I run. I'd also be happy to contribute other articles, as my other self Grush the *somewhat* intelligent half-orc reporter from the Shadow Marches, but currently residing in Sharn. |
| Flamy07-04-04, 11:03 PM | Wow, a lot of proffesionals here helping out. I've never had an idea go so well. Elaith, your help as a proofreader would be greatly appreciated. I make...I mean my keyboard makes many mistakes. Yeah, that's right, my keyboard.;) Jedi8187, I'd really like it if you could provide excerpts from your adventures. Actually, you should make Grush write it. Then it'd be your tale. I'm surprised so many people are interested. I just hope I don't mess everything up like I've done in the past. Now back to working on that Morgrave University Article. The people have a right to know! |
| Save_vs_DM07-04-04, 11:38 PM | Cehck this out, it's tiny and for my own campaign webpage, but here it is. http://evildm.datavortex.net/eberron/kchronicle.htm I volunteer my services as web designer and general artsy fartsy guy (I'm a fine artist and web designer). I'm also willing to write articles too! Happy to help. Cheers, Save-vs-DM |
| Ch@pel07-05-04, 01:19 AM | This is a great idea that I'd love to be a part of! If you need any help, let me know. I have a little experience writing for publications and meeting deadlines, so I could help out with editing articles if needed. Also, I think you ought to add a "personals" or "classified" section. You could put potential adventure hooks out there for all to read, them DMs could have their party's characters read it in the Chronicle, then run a short adventure based around it and have the players report back what happens. I know I plan on having a long term hard copy log book for my party's adventure, and each character of their's will be writing in it. It's a pretty ornate book and each character will have their own style of writing in it. You could have this book (or someone else's, that is cooler than ours) actually be a fairly old record of a famous adventurer's travels (maybe King Boranel of Breland?) and the Chronicle is reprinting a few chapters at a time. Let me know if you need help, and I really hope this thing takes off! |
| Pallis07-05-04, 02:38 AM | This is really great everyone. Brilliant response to Flamy's idea to get the Chronicle written. I think we should have a deadline for people who want to be regular contributors...and then once the website is up and running any further submissions - from anyone who is interested - can be directed to the team from there. My reasoning for setting a deadline is: a) to get everyone used to the idea that deadlines will have to be set! b) because if we don't, we'll be at this stage forever... At the moment we've got: Flamy Jimmy The Groove Tobias The Invincible Elaith19 Jedi8187 Save Vs Dm Ch@pel and me...Pallis. If anyone knows of a decent artist, or has some talent themselves, please reply. I'm sure there's got to be someone out there... |
| Save_vs_DM07-05-04, 02:38 AM | Right, this is such a good idea it spurned me to action. I've created a Korranberg Chronicle website, and will be happy to parse all these articles into web code and then post them. Here it is, for you guys to take a look at. http://www.evildm.datavortex.net/kchronicle/ Do you like it? I know it can probably use a bit of work, and it's not super fancy or anything, but it's better than nothing, right? Also, here is my alter ego for writing: Cwyrdyn of the Grey Rock: A changeling brd 3/M.I. 2, he uses his considerable skills to ferret out information throughout the Five Kingdoms. His articles are usually interspersed with witty retorts and he is a bit of a smart ass. He tends to get the dirt, though. Also, for a humor column: Krog, Barbarian Chronicler. Krog no write well, but me have things to say! ME HATE WHEN PENCIL BREAK! KROG SMASH! Krog sorry, he mess up, but he write gud, you sees! Krog have lots witty things to say... Cheers all, nad what a cool little venture. Save-vs-DM |
| Jimmy_Groove07-05-04, 04:49 AM | That site looks great. Deadlines should be at least two days before publishing, so if we publish weekly on Sunday deadline should be Friday around 2200 EST. We can probably get ready in time to do a first addition this week. |

Save-vs-DM By the Five Nations, man - that is so awesome!!!! To the rest of you, I as a DM and Player, support you and will send in my group's adventures once (if might be a better term currently) we get started. Thank you all for this.... Peterson |
| Hellcow07-05-04, 12:08 PM | At the moment, i don't believe that WotC has any plans for an online version of the Chronicle. So go forth and write! I look forward to seeing what you come up with. |
| Pallis07-05-04, 12:35 PM | It's good to have your blessing with this venture, Keith, so thanks for that. I was wondering today about copyright issues, but seeing as it's a fan site I think we're okay. One question though, are we allowed to call our website The Korranberg Chronicle or would it need to be named 'Unofficial' for copyright purposes. We would certainly not wish to infringe anyone's rights with this. |
| Pallis07-05-04, 12:36 PM | ...oh, and Keith? Maybe you'd care to submit an article or two sometime in the future...? ;) |
| Pallis07-05-04, 12:42 PM | Okay...to business then. During my lunch break I wrote a 'stream-of-consciousness' flow chart for the structure of the team and what positions would be required and what would need to be done by a member in that position. This list is by no means definitive, but should give an impression of what we're after: Deep breath then... Structure for Chronicle Team Webmaster Responsible for: ·Overall design ethic and format, in conjunction with editor ·Maintenance of web-site ·Construction of each ‘issue’ in relation to articles submitted, page-count and regularity of issue release (again in conjunction with editor) Editor Responsible for: ·Overall design ethic and format, in conjunction with Webmaster ·Construction and approval of final formatted ‘issue’ in conjunction with Webmaster and Sub Editor ·Accepting articles from Proof-Reader and final selection of articles required ·Liaising with design staff and correspondents, including notification of deadlines ·Article writing ·Having a good understanding of the Eberron campaign setting Proof-Reader (if the enterprise becomes too large for one person, this will become a team post with structured management in itself, with proof-readers giving over their validated work to an overall proof-reader for final authorisation) Responsible for: ·Approving written articles for acceptance by the editor ·Research articles to approve their validity in the setting ·Liaising with editor and correspondents as required, with notification of changes and requests to articles that can be met before submission to Webmaster Sub-Editor Responsible for: ·Primary point of contact with regular correspondents and – once the website is up and running – submission writers to the website ·Working closely with editor in final selection of articles required ·Initial selection of articles to be passed for proof-reading Regular Correspondents/Submission acceptances Responsible for: ·Writing the articles for their chosen area ·Submitting articles to the sub editor and achieving strict deadlines ·Having a good knowledge of the Eberron campaign setting ·Having a good grasp of written English, with a presentable style As you can see the structure leads up from the Chroniclers to the Editor, with work finally submitted to the Webmaster. ...and relax! So, after that, what's everyone think?? Over to you guys. |
| Pallis07-05-04, 12:56 PM | Just looked at your work Save_vs_DM. I like what you've done here, and as you acknowledge, with a bit more work, and obviously some content, this can be wonderful. Quick question if possible, would you consider altering the title, maybe make it a bit more grand, and...I don't know...a little more Gnomish??? Don't know if you get what I mean by that, but hopefully you'll have some ideas and some inspiration to have a play. I particularly like the weather info. It's little touches like this that'll raise the bar for us. Good stuff. Jimmy -whoah!! Let's slow the (lightning) rail a little. I'm as keen to get the first issue up and running as you so I can see where you're coming from, but Flamy only began this thread a few days ago and I think it'd be best if we just took our time, nurtured the idea and the possibilities and got the structure in place before our first issue hits the markets and readership of Khorvaire. I, like you, and everyone else who comes to work on this, wants it to be good...hell, why not?...GREAT! I really think, with the talent we're surrounded with and the gamers who'll support us, that we really can aim high with this. And when you think about that, surely a couple of weeks doesn't make a whole lot of difference... |
| elaith1907-05-04, 01:05 PM | >Proof-Reader (if the enterprise becomes too large for one person, this >will become a team post with structured management in itself, with >proof-readers giving over their validated work to an overall >proof-reader for final authorisation) >Responsible for: >·Approving written articles for acceptance by the editor >·Research articles to approve their validity in the setting >·Liaising with editor and correspondents as required, with >notification of changes and requests to articles that can be met >before submission to Webmaster. Excellent post, Pallis. A good 'command' structure is a must in any serious 'business' venture. As far as those responsibilities goes toward me, I feel very comfortable with them. I do think, however, that you should think about doing a initial release of only one or two pages, to see how people react, in and out. Afterwards, if everyone is at ease, then you could increase the number of pages gradually. This could also give you the chance to accumulate articles for future releases. This way, people won't feel to pressured by this fun undertaking. You can email me at ANY time, at elaith@sympatico.ca I will gladly assist you in any way I can. I look forward to this thing and I hope it will work out successfully! |
| Pallis07-05-04, 01:09 PM | That's a good point, elaith19. This has to be FUN!!! The really good thing is that there's absolutely no reason why it shouldn't be... Which is very cool. |
| Ch@pel07-05-04, 02:17 PM | I really like that website! And the part about weather is an oh-so-cool touch. However, I was thinking that it might not be such a good idea to have to write something for each nation in every issue; it might be better to just let Chroniclers write about whatever they want, to keep their interest up. (I realize you probably only put them in there to create content) That list of positions looks good too. It's amazing to see how quickly this thing is moving along! I'd like to offer my services as Editor, Sub-Editor, or Proofreader. Depending on the format we'll be doing this in, I have some experience doing magazine layouts, especially with an eye towards asthetics. (I've worked for a local music magazine in Boston. It's a small venture, but its been pretty successful for 25 years) Let me know how I can help. Also, should we agree upon someplace to meet to discuss the Chronicle, other than these Boards? I think people might get frustrated with us taking up space on a Public board. Maybe it's not an issue though. "Allow me to introduce myself!" exclaims a stocky little gnome from behind his unreasonably cluttered desk, at the center of the Korranberg newsroom. He appears to be completely in his element admist the swirling confusion, that is, until he jumps up to offer his hand shake and knocks over his clay cup full of Brelish coffee. As he quickly employs a ring of prestidigitation, it becomes obvious that he has these sorts of accidents frequently. "My name is Tobias Barnacle, free-lance bureaucrat, copy editor for Our Fine Publication... and office clutz, unfortunately", he says with a self effacing grin, as he checks to make sure no important documents were harmed in the spill. Edit: I wish I put this much effort into a real job... |
| Flamy07-05-04, 02:20 PM | What the! I'm gone for 12 hours and the topic expands this much! This is great! Save_vs_Dm, that is a great website you created. With it the Chronicle will surely be great. Ch@pel, your idea of the classifieds is great. It could provide multiple adveture hooks in a single issue. Course, some articles could also be adventure hooks. And some will be for pure flavor, to add a bit of reality and event to Eberron. Pallis, your commnad structure is great and will surely help us make this work. We should decide who will fill each role soon, though I think Save_vs_DM should be the Webmaster, since he made the site. Now, I don't think we should have a deadline just yet, or if we do we should have it a week away at least. That'll give everyone enough time to work on thier articles. Edit: Ch@pel, I hadn't seen your post when I posted. You rbing up some good points, but everyhting is in in the beggining stage. Things will take shape soon enough. For now, let's just write articles. |
| Ch@pel07-05-04, 02:49 PM | Flamy- Thanks so much for the nice words. I liked the idea of classifieds a lot too. I think it'd be so cool, one Chronicler comes up with some interesting site or event going on, but doesn't actually write up a whole adventure like you'd find in Dungeon magazine, he justs writes up the flavor part. Then any DM is free to come up with his own take on how the adventure goes down, and they submit their record of it to us at the Chronicle. It's just such a neat little package. Also, just FYI, I didn't make the site, Save vs. DM did. We should also set up some kind of meta-guidelines for writing articles, just so we don't get someone who writes up a whole investigation on the Mourning and discovers what caused it. I don't think this thing should have a huge impact on the setting world; you should be able to use it if you want, without it providing anything more than additional flavor and adventure hooks. But yeah, let's freaking roll with this! We ought to get this moving while everyone's creative juices and energy is still going strong. Let's start throwing out some article ideas. Any topic is fine, from strange weather, to a marriage in a noble's household. Let's see what we can come up with! |
| jedi818707-05-04, 03:13 PM | Well I just started my adventure, and in a couple of weeks should be able to get a rather good start on the story. If you like I could write a pre-adventure thing for the group to set up where the story is coming from, it of course would be rather short, including only small blurbs about each member of the team. |
| Flamy07-05-04, 03:17 PM | Ch@pel, that's the main reason why I wanted to make the Chronicle, to give create advneture hooks. It's a simple hook, the Dm could interpret it as he sees fit. Heck, he could change it to switch his needs as as necesarry. As an example, the article I'm preparing is something about Morgrave Universist opening a Xen'drik exhibit. It's big, but nothing that is world shaking. The University itself is affected little. A DM can choose to use it if he wishes. Those are the kind of articles I would like to see. I didn't destroy anything, nor have I changed the face of Eberron. It's a simple exhibit, yet there are dozens of adventures that could appear out of that little exhibit. But, say you don't wnat to write such an article, say you want to write a study of X region. Go ahead, just don't do anything that changes the face of Eberron. On another note, I fixed the whole webpage thing. It happens to me a lot, especially when I'm thinking about two things at once. Heck, I once transformed a simple drake into a golem cause I was thinking about golems! |
| Ch@pel07-05-04, 03:32 PM | Jedi- Let's hear what you have, man! Flamy- That sounds great about the museum exhibit... the Host knows that someone will be trying to raid that! I think I might do a write up of the patron in my campaign. He's a human dragon-marked member of House Tharashk named Elias Primer. He's from the Shadow Marches, and didn't enjoy life in the swamp, so he took an assignment from one of his superiors to go to Sharn. He set up a recruitment center for adventurers to be employed by the House for business in the Central Khovaire region. I would write this up like I was doing a profile on a small, new business. He is actively seeking fresh young recruits for various exploits and missions around Khorvaire. Maybe there ought to be a section of the Chronicle specifically for Dragon-marked businesses? We should also try to make it our business to provide as many NPCs as possible in here, to be used in any campaign, like the Critical Threats section in Dragon magazine, only specifically geared towards Eberron. Each article could be a description of him, followed by a stat block. Of course, you would have to come up with a reason he'd be getting coverage in Our Fine Publication, but that shouldn't be too hard. |
| Pallis07-05-04, 03:48 PM | Flamy, good to see you're back! I've started researching articles, and, if suits with everyone, will be writing out of Fairhaven as news travels to me from across Aundair, though I do travel with observed regularity to Thelanis, The Faerie Court on matters of business from time to time. You will understand that, due to a rather unfortunate encounter with a Green Dragon, I'd prefer to keep my identity secret, for the time being, however I will send what I hear under the guise of Meladaer. |
| Pallis07-05-04, 03:52 PM | I'll keep this post short - feels like I've written an issue already! - but what d'you think the chances are of getting DMAC to do portraits of the characters of the core team, i.e. regional chroniclers, sub editor, proofreader, editor, webmaster...? I think I'll go ask him... Of course, my character - Meladaer - will have to be cloaked in shadow at present... Just thought...Flamy, if this is what 12 hours can bring... Now hold that thought... |
| jedi818707-05-04, 03:54 PM | Jedi- Let's hear what you have, man! Well the group consits of a warforged wizard in adamantine plating, a kalashtar marshal, a kalashtar telepath, a shifter soulknife, and a half-elf urban ranger. THey work for house Tharash'ak, and their first mission is recover art from a stalled lightning rail car in the mourlands, I will provide more coverage in a full write up later. |
| Pallis07-05-04, 04:12 PM | Sounds interesting... |
| Pallis07-05-04, 04:17 PM | I also think that maybe it'd be a good idea to include coverage, perhaps veiled coverage, of the events played out in The Forgotten Forge in the CSB. This way, readers who've played the adventure will gain an instant hook and can say... "hey, the news of OUR actions in Sharn have got some press coverage!" Now, we wouldn't include spoilers, just enough of a hint to suggest that 'this' happened and caused 'this' effect... It's also a good way of introducing canon material into the Chronicle... |
| Axys07-05-04, 07:16 PM |:devil: Since noone has volunteered to be the local sports writer, add Axys Anvilfist to the mix. (dorf lvl 8 expert):devil: I play in a medievil fighting club called Amtgard, and in there we have several team and individual sports that I can steal from to make a decent sports column. Now all I need is assistance in making ten team names for a sport called Orcball, a type of rugby with weapons. Using major cities names and the fact that they would travel across the face of Eberron here's what I've shlupped up so far..... Sharn Spectres Fairhaven Fiends Wroat Wraiths Korth Cadavers Karralakton Kraken Rekkenmark Regiment Regalport Rakshasas Krona Peak Berserkers Gatherhold Giants Flamekeep Fervor The games are ran by House Thuranni, part of thier entertainment guise....will be pulling more up and writing up alil history and giving a game blow-by-blow for acceptance to see if its gewd enuf |
| Ch@pel07-05-04, 07:24 PM | Dateline- Mol, Nymm 2nd, 998 YK Last night, under cover of sheets of rain, an unidentified assailant ruthlessly cut down one of Morgrave University's most respected provosts, Bonal Geldem. Geldem, reknown for his intense research of Pre-Galifar Khorvaire, was on his way home after a lecture when he was attacked in the vicinity of Kelsa Spire. The City Watch was notified immediately by nearby residents, and arrived on the scene to find Geldem already dead. Sergeant Dolom, first to arrive at the scene, had this to say: "There was nothing we could do to help Mr. Geldem, though we will put all our effort into capturing his attacker." He had no comment on a potential motive. However, our sources here at the Korranberg Chronicle have told us that the attack may have had something to do with Geldem's research regarding a certain dragon-marked house, but the details are not solid enough for publication. We will bring to light any new information as it becomes available to us. Geldem was survived by his wife of 12 years. The funeral services will be private, but there will be a vigil in the auditorium in Morgrave's eastern wing tomorrow night, which will be renamed Geldem Hall in honor of the illustrious provost. His widow asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Couatl Historical Research Society. -Barnacle |
| scaryfroman07-05-04, 08:10 PM | you need a buisness section too... Newt: a reporter as slick as his name and sometimes as slimy. No one knows how he gets information about the trading houses and thier inner workings, but somehow he does. Recently known for blowing a house Cannith price-fixing scandal wide open... |
| peterson07-05-04, 08:24 PM | Okay, a couple of suggestions for the Korranberg Chronicle: First, instead of giving an entire page to each of the 12 nations (and surrounding land masses), why don’t you just do a page titled something like Current News from across Khorvaire and Beyond . Okay, I know that’s a long title – but it is just a suggestion. Anyway, on that page (or pages), you can include newsworthy items for that issue – not all of the nations have to be covered in every issue. If every nation does need to be covered (after all, it is the Korranberg Chronicle!), then maybe just a small paragraph or a Marshal Report (think Police Log) could hit the major points. Also, you should have either an Ask the Editor, Editor’s Foreword, or something similar. This could be merely a chance for the Editor to actually say something, or it could be yet another DM resource (somehow…). One thing I would really try to get is an article every so often from Hellcow – kinda like his Dragonshards articles for the WotC boards, but since (in my opinion) Hellcow is the ultimate Eberron fan, he could write a “common” article detailing whatever comes to his dark bovine brain. This shouldn’t be as common as the regular articles, but I could definitely see a “Korranberg Chronicle: Special Issue” happening once a year or so. Of course, once I get a chance to really dive into the setting, I will be more than willing to contribute. Maybe an article titled Verses of the Bard (a section dedicated to poems, short stories, songs, and “free-willed wenches”) or Adventurers’ Guide to Khorvaire (an article examining a different area of Khorvaire every issue – sorta like Elminster’s Guide to the Realms, but not as….odd.) That’s about it from me. Peterson Edit: Good thinking with the Archive section - that's thinking ahead! |
| Tobias_the _invincible07-05-04, 09:09 PM | If no-one objects, may I take the news from the Droaam side of things? People need to know what the monsters are up to. I posted a sample story Pallis and Flamy, see what you think. |
| Save_vs_DM07-05-04, 09:34 PM | Right, thanks for the feedback. First of all, I made a Yahoo group for the chronicle, so we can stop spamming the message boards. YOu can join it with the followling link http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/kchronicle/ Fill out the info, and we can go from there. Okay, a few little points. 1. I really think articles should be as general as possible, so that any DM can plop them down into a game at random. To this end, no world shaking things, minor stuff is all right. This could be a great source for plot hooks for DMs, and players should be able to check it for information as well, and have it fit their own world. 2. There is a reason I had subsections for each area. Even if there isn't anything from taht area, I can simply post that no news is good news. Just because you have a section doesn't mean you have to fill it. Okay, all for now. And I do volunteer as webmaster, it's what I'm good at so all too happy to help out. Cheers, Save-vs-DM |

| dvsman07-06-04, 10:23 AM | I think this is great. I'll attempt to work on some illustrations for it as well. But I would like to express some thoughts that might make this work better. My wife has worked as an editor in tevelvison and print(believe you me friends she has no time for us, it's a blessing she lets me have gaming as a hobby) But she mentioned a few things. First we need a strict editor. There are going to be a lot of ideas coming in and we need to filter them. Seeing as how the paper comes out three times a week we shouldn't feel obligated to include every article in every paper. Second I think 75-80% of the stories should come from the core nations; Breland, Zilargo, thrane, aundair, karrnath. Regardless of the magic used, stories from the fringes are harder to cover and report. So while great story ideas can come from Q'barra or the demon wastes, they are harder to report and readship might be less interested in them. Tales from the Mournland alone should be scarce because it should be considered rare for any to consistantly report news from there. Perhaps keeping several article ideas for a time and running a "special report" from Mournlands for a week might be neat. I think this is a great Idea and can't wait to contribute more. Thanks for listening. Dvsman |
| Pallis07-06-04, 12:55 PM | That's a good point regarding scarcity of news from fringe areas and one that, I think should be employed to lend the Chronicle an air of realism. An issue that includes information from The Demon Wastes, for example, should be uncommon, but when the news does come in from such an area it's an absolute beauty of a story and serves to remind folk of 'ordinary' Khorvaire that the menace is not too far away. As to your point concerning a strict editor, I couldn't agree more. I'll post later - after I've worked out which positions have been filled already - so that we've got an up-to-date idea of who's doing what and who wants to do what...and which positions are left to fill. I don't think we should move in entirety from this thread until we've got the requisite number of people involved. Hopefully by the end of the week, we'll be able to move over completely to the Yahoo group. I'll sign up now. Also, thanks for the PM. Your further suggestions have been noted. I'm keeping a file book of all this stuff that, you wouldn't believe, will undoubtedly rival my campaign notes some time in the very near future... |
| Pallis07-06-04, 12:59 PM | Ch@pel. One word. Excellent. What a great summary of the events that lead up to the Forgotten Forge adventure, and written in a very appreciable style too. I think you've set the bench-mark so far as to the sort of quality we're aiming at with our fiction... *ahem*...reporting! I'll be back later with a full compiled list of who's looking to do what, as per my posting above. My Warforged mini's just arrived from ebay! Oh, boy...happy days... |
| Pallis07-06-04, 03:17 PM | So...here's the list at the moment. Forgive me if I've missed anyone out. If I HAVE missed anyone, reply to this thread with the position you'd like to take up... You'll notice that several areas have multiple names attached. That's okay, we can decide later or have the position as a rotating one... Webmaster: Save_vs_DM Editor: ch@pel, Pallis Proofreader: elaith19 Sub Editor: ch@pel, Pallis Aundair Chronicler: Pallis Breland Chronicler: Perhaps this area needs more than one chronicler, say one person covering events in Sharn and another in the countryside? Darguun Chronicler: Droaam Chronicler: Tobias The Invincible Maybe articles from this area are heavily censored by the Daughters of Sora Kell - only allowed out once the hags have seen and agreed with what's written...? Just thinking aloud... The Eldeen Reaches: Karrnath: Lhazaar Principalities: The Mror Holds: Shadow Marches: Talenta Plains: Thrane: Valenar: Zilargo: ch@pel - need to confirm that Tobias Barnacle is writing for this area - I note that in your text you have him in Korranberg's newsroom... Also:- Classifieds Sports Section: Axys - btw excellent stuff with the team names! Humour: Illustrations/Artwork: dvsman - anything else you're interested in other than artwork - a chronicler position perhaps...? Business Section: scaryfroman Other...? You'll notice that The Demons Wastes, Mournland, and Q'Barra are missing from the list which would require correspondents. This is due to the anarchic nature of these places and while - sure - stories will develop from these areas, they'll be on an irregular basis and be all the more amazing for their scarcity. It is rare, after all that someone would get out of the demon wastes alive, not to mention with a written report of what they've witnessed... So next up we've people who've expressed an interest but have yet to confirm what position they want to undertake. Jimmy Groove peterson - will you be submitting work as opposed to being a member of the core team? jedi8187 Flamy So again, apologies if I've missed anyone. You'll be able to see now that we've still a way to go before we can seriously look at collating our articles for the first issue. Anyone out there interested, please reply with which area you want to write for. Also, it would be good to join the Yahoo message board that's being set up for the core team. If you're looking to submit stories (i.e. NOT be a regular core team member) please don't hook up to the Yahoo boards. You'll get your chance to submit your own articles when the Korranberg Chronicle goes live... ...ok, that's me done for now. Thanks for reading. |
| jedi818707-06-04, 05:53 PM | Grush(my counterpart) will be relaying info on the party I spoke of, probably not a weekly thing, but every now and then some blurbs from the adventures. He resides in the Shadow Marches, so he could write a few articles from that area if need be, matter of fact I have an idea for an article, but I would appreciate some addtional help in this area. And on a side note, Grush will probably write in favor of House Tharash'ak, as he is a member, well if you count secrataries as members. |
| Shadowalk Nimblefeet07-06-04, 06:37 PM | Oh, I might be interested in taking the position of Valenar Chronicler... However, I'm going to have to go back through the entirety of the thread to catch up on exactly what is going on because I just returned from a holiday and haven't been on the boards in a few weeks. |
| Saurenda07-06-04, 07:05 PM | Illustrations/Artwork: dvsman - anything else you're interested in other than artwork Be happy to supply illustrations and artwork here. Just contact me when you need something along with the description. Make sure you give me a two day period to work as my family has a way of creeping up on me. Thank again guys |
| Ch@pel07-06-04, 08:06 PM | Pallis- Thank you much for the kind words! And yeah, I figure thats a pretty good template for a typical article; just a few paragraghs long, and it includes the appropriate heading and author signature. And notice how it says that Sgt. Dolom was the first on the scene... I know my PCs would feel cool knowing that in fact they were there first, not him; or that they actually know what dragon-marked house I'm refering to. As for where my character, Tobias, is writing from; yes, he is operating in the offices of the Chronicle. He works as an editor, but he still has many contacts from his days as a free-lance reporter, so anytime someone drops him a tasty piece of information, hey will do a write up of it. Now I'm thinking about layout for the Chronicle as a whole. Personally, I think we should do as much as possible to make the website appear to be a newspaper, not a web page, if you get me. This doesn't have to be too complicated, it could go something like this: 1.) The Front Page. This will obviously have a large font headline of the issue's major story, and hopefully a picture to go with it. What we'll do, as editors, is decide which story should go on the headline, then ask the art department to do a sketch to go with it, that way the main page always has something eye-catching. The web master will obviously have to decide how doable this is, but if it's possible, the edges of each page could be kind of tattered to look like a scroll, and page numbers at the bottom of each page, and also a button to go to the next page. Also, in the lower left corner of the main page, we should have a table of contents, that includes links to each page. 2.) Across the Five Nations. This section will be devoted to stories pertaining to Breland, Thrane, Karrnath, Aundair, and occasionally the Mournland. The Chronicle still refers to central Khorvaire as the "Five Nations" even though it's only really four now. Hopefully there will be at least one article a week for this section. It would be helpful if Chroniclers didn't neccessarily restrict themselves to one area, (if you want, make up several monikers for a char from every area you write about) that way each nation gets some spotlight time. 3.) The Continental Chronicles. This section will have articles from everywhere else in Khorvaire, from tide charts for the Lhazaar Principalities to the current state of affairs in Droaam. Again, one article a week is enough, maybe more depending on how well any of this is recieved. 4.) This next part will actually be a group of columns, like the sports column above, almanac entries and the like. We could have a regular writer answer reader questions or offer advice on purchasing adventuring equipment (a great way to introduce new items into the setting, no?) in a sort of Dear Abbey style. Basically this is a catch all section for anything that doesn't neccessarily fit into the other sections. If there is news from other continents (which ought to be rare), they will get their own special section here. If someone wants to do a comic strip, it goes right in here. Also, illustrations should be placed throughout the publication, without a lot of them being placed on one page. I would encourage the artist guys to, whenever possible, do sketches and pictures related to upcoming stories, to give it some cohesion. If you read about a classified and have a great picture in your head, definately do it up, then post and let people know that you have a picture, so that story gets more attention and is more likely to be printed. Also, its possible to do a picture and have someone completely make up a story to go with it; the art should be a critical part of the Chronicle. People LOVE pictures. ;) 5.) Khovaire Commerce. Although it could be condensed into the previous section if neccessary, this section ought to be solely relating to the business of dragon-marked houses. If someone is willing to consistently do stories on the Houses, this will remain as it's own section; the Houses are a big enough part of the world that they deserve their own section. 6.) Classifieds. This section is pretty much strictly for generating new adventure hooks. Each ad ought to be only a few lines long and say something like "Adventurers wanted for a high risk, high pay expedition to the Ruined Temple of the Giants in Xen'drik. See Killian at 143 Dornan Tower, Sharn, Level 2 for details." Obviously, it could get a little more descriptive than this, but the idea is to just throw out a couple of cool NPCs, and a place or event and have DMs come up with their own adventure. Then, DMs send us back a description of what happened on their adventure and we have a Chronicler turn it into a story. Players of the DM's group would love to see their characters' names in print in the Chronicle; so we expand out readership with every story. :D It doesn't even have to totally be about combat; there could be an ad for a rumage sale, with a list of potential items to buy. Then the DM could describe what happens to his group when they check it out. So, thats only about six sections, with each one being no more than a page or three. Remember, like someone said before, I'm certain that some weeks, we will get a ton of material (especially early on in this endevour) and we'll be tempted to print it all. But we have to save some for the weeks where we don't have as much to work with. We have to strive for some kind of consistancy in the length of the publication. If anyone has any suggestions or additions, let's here them. This ought to be largely a democracy, to an extent; Tobias Barnacle expects nothing less than controlled chaos in his newsroom. :D |
| jedi818707-06-04, 09:31 PM | Hey for my article I was thinking of writing a story on finding a new, rich vein of Eberron shards in the Shadow Marches. This could be done as a story for the Shadow Marches, or as a House Tharash'ak story, witchever you all like. |
| Ch@pel07-06-04, 10:06 PM | For that one, jedi, you could do it as two different articles. One of them would talk about the social impacts it would have on the Marches (think the California Gold Rush of 1849) and the other in the business section could talk about how it relates to the economy. Or feel free to do it one way, then someone else could add to it by talking about the other side of it; it would add to the realism to have two different perspectives. And artists, I'd love to see what a orc prospector looks like. :D The classifieds would have to be looking for adventurers to help transport people and equipment over there, gaurd shard mines, and transport the shards back. Someone could write a column detailing what to expect while traveling there, for new-comers to the Marches. This could include dangerous creatures in the area and equipment that could be helpful. |
| Save_vs_DM07-07-04, 12:05 AM | All right, I'll work on redesigning the site to have few sub sections (which is actually LESS work for me, to be honest. I'll also give it a nice little update. Cheers, Save-vs-DM |
| Buffetassassin07-07-04, 01:11 AM | I know that I am jumping into this forum a bit late in the planning stages but I would love to add content to this project. I am an English major, and I am going to be persuing a master degree in English. I am writing for my local newspaper and would love to work on the Korranberg chronicle. I had a similar idea for creating the chronicle but the task is far too much for one DM. If you all could use my help I would love to assist. |
| Pallis07-07-04, 02:36 AM | Welcome Buffetassassin! Just pick what position(s) you're able and willing to do and it might be best to become a member of the Yahoo boards (search this thread for the link) if you're looking to be a member of the core team. Good to see that everyone's still got their creative spark on this! Looking forward to seeing the web design. Saurenda - any illustrations would be greatly appreciated! Can't chat more at the mo. Got to go to work. |
| peterson07-07-04, 06:22 AM | Originally posted by Pallis peterson - will you be submitting work as opposed to being a member of the core team? Yes, to both actually. While I want to write a column for every issue, I'm not sure of what exactly - although I do like the Advice Column idea ....yeah, I'll take that one on until you find someone better. Also, I have a pretty good eye for proofreading, so if elaith19 needs a secondary proofreader or goes on vacation, I'll be available. As for art - you best find someone else, I can't draw a straight line with a ruler. Finally, I will also be submitting articles as the inspiration grabs me. More on my Advice Columnist alter ego later today. I just want to say thanks for doing all this folks - its going to make my game that much better! Peterson |
| Save_vs_DM07-07-04, 06:50 AM | Right, the webpage has a brand spanking new (older) look to it. Tell me what you think... Cheers, Save-vs-DM |
| peterson07-07-04, 07:03 AM | I like it. If I had one thing I'd change about it, it would have to be the gems. Not that its bad, but I'm just not sure it adds anything to the layout. Anyways, I like it - the scroll format seems more natural. Peterson |
| peterson07-07-04, 07:54 AM | He’ll scour the Five Nations for the answer, and if he can’t answer it, you never needed to know it! Ask Atgar, an advice column penned by Atgar of Sharn, former Eldeen Reaches Ranger and Guide to Khorvaire. Atgar of Sharn is a flamboyant Dwarf, far removed from the stoic realm of Mror Holds. He enjoys fresh fruit, old ruins, hard liquor, and soft women. Indeed, Atgar of Sharn is not his true name, but one he adopted once he retired in the City of Towers, as a way to show the world that he had changed – had settled down even. Well, not completely. He can still be found late into the night, drinking and having a merry time about the city, where he gets into all manner of trouble and knows a good portion of the City Watch by their first names. Dressing in the latest fashions of an Lhazaar Prince (a poor one at that), he cuts a most comical figure. However, beneath his drunken smile and short beard, there is a dwarf of superior knowledge and common sense. He is often quoted as saying, “When the damned are holy, the holy become damned.” It is this sort of comment that often gets him blank stares and a shake of the head, but Atgar merely smiles to himself – for he knows the wise will find purchase in those very words. Atgar now spends his early evenings and late mornings answering letters from hopeful adventurers to down on their luck scholars, covering a wide range of topics, including but not limited to, dietary habits of a dragonhawk to defeating monsters from the Mournland. No topic is too far-fetched; no topic is off-limits, like he states at the end of each column, “Where’s there hope, there's fire.” Atgar usually seeds his column with advertisements – for taverns, ales, new adventuring products, etc. Some throughout the Chronicle’s office see him as a sell-out, but Atgar just sees free goods and some extra coin to spend at his favorite tavern – the Broken Anvil. Atgar is an Expert1/Ranger2/Bard1. Well, what do you think? Atgar got the job? Peterson |
| Pallis07-07-04, 12:39 PM | I reckon so, Atgar. Come in...make yourself at home and close the door behind door. Drag up a chair and tell me some tales. Good to have you on board, peterson. I'll update the position list on these boards soon, or if someone gets to it before me then all well and good. I've a friend who may submit an article written in thieves cant, which I thought was a great idea. Hopefully she'll drop by these boards, or at the very least write up her article. I can see a few adventure hooks being snared by this... Wondering where Flamy's got to! |
| Pallis07-07-04, 12:52 PM | Shadowalk Nimblefeet - Valenar's yours if you feel happy to write about the area on a regular basis... Head over to the Yahoo boards (you'll find the link somewhere on this thread) and state your intent... See you soon |
| Buffetassassin07-07-04, 03:54 PM | If you have an area that has not be assigned yet, that you really need filled let me know. I can make a character and everything around the needed section. |
| Scud-O07-07-04, 04:02 PM | Hi, all. I just had my attention drawn to this thread, and I am seriously interested in helping out. I am a Production Editor during the day (meaning proofreading, layout and spec checking, etc.) and would love to help out that way. In addition, I would really love to help out with any writing that needs to be done. Someone PM me or respond to this thread and let me know what I can do. I joined the Yahoo! Group, but wasn't sure if that was the right place to post this. Hopefully, I made the right choice putting it here! |
| Ch@pel07-07-04, 04:24 PM | Buffetassasin- Just jump in and start writing some stuff. Don't worry about writing specifically for one region, just write about whatever region happens to interest you at the moment. (This goes for everyone else too) However, keep in mind that for the sake of realism, the Five Nations ought to get the most coverage, followed closely by places like Zilargo and the Mror Holds. Other places are fair game, but they shouldn't be the main focus of the Chronicle. Scud-o- Great to have you aboard! Let's try this just for the sake of organization... Everyone who wants to write anything for the Chronicle, write it up in about 3-5 paragraghs, then post a synopsis of it here or on the Yahoo board. That way, we can see what we have to work with, and new writers will know what sections need to be filled in. Illustrators could also start doing art based off these synopsises. (SP?) Saves vs DM- The site looks awesome! Thats pretty much exactly how I pictured it! I might have to agree about the previous post about the gems. I do like them at the bottom of the page, though, where they are kind of out of the way, but they still look cool. They only thing I can think of is to make it a little bit larger (it only took up half of the window in my browser) so that we can fit more text on each page. Or does it automatically adjust to fit whatever text we want to put in it? But thats not even an issue until we see what we have to put in it. So lets see what everyone has as far as stories go. Don't forget columns and classifieds as well. Illustrators check back here and pick a story to draw for. I'd like to nominate my first article (posted in this thread) as the headline for the first issue. (I hope thats not TOO egotistical of me ;) ) It relates to the first official adventure in the CSB, so it kind of fits, plus it's already all written up. I guess Saves vs DM, you'd be in charge of determining the font and content of the headline. If anyone wants to do an illustration of Morgrave or Geldem's funeral, or Sgt. Dolom on the scene, that would be cool for the front page. Anyway, I hope everyone is excited about this as I am! Can't wait to see what everyone is working on! |
| Pallis07-07-04, 05:13 PM | Yes Cha@pel I think you're right. The story that leads into the Forgotten Forge should be Headline, Front Page news. Everything else leads on from this. I'll have my character ready soon and several articles. Save_VS_DM: what word count are we limited to per article? Buffetassassin: Head over to the Yahoo board (search this thread for the link) and write for whatever area interests you. No sense in lots of people writing for Sharn and Breland and leaving another core area barren of coverage though... Scud-O: I second Ch@pel's greeting. Nice to have you on the team. Hope everyone is fit, well and geared up for this. One thing though...I've lost the link to the new webiste. Can someone on the team who's been there drop me an email or PM to tell me where's it at? Thanks.... |
| dvsman07-07-04, 05:21 PM | Ch@pel use the yahoo board to send me those articles so I can work on the illustations for them. |
| jedi818707-07-04, 05:24 PM | Whens our first deadline? The next chance I'll have to sit down and really work on a peice is Moday, but if you need it soone, I can do bits a peices until I get it rite. |
| Pallis07-07-04, 05:31 PM | I would suggest that our first deadline is a week on Friday. This means that we can get the groundwork set up, get a few more people aboard and relaxed with the work; also it'll enable us to get some articles written and posted to the Yahoo board (not here - we don't want to give the game away!). Save_vs_DM is doing great work on the site, and once we've had a chance to see the articles set out with dvsman's and Saurenda's illustrations, I'm sure it'll be even better! Hope everyone agrees with the next Friday deadline. I'm as eager as you all to get this out in the public domain, but I don't want to rush it... |
| Save_vs_DM07-07-04, 06:46 PM | A note on the size of the page: a LOT of folks still have 800x600 resolution on thei rmonitors...I always design to the lowest common standard (the page will work with versions 3.0 or less of Netscape or IE). Articles can be any length, the scroll lengethens to fit. I'll take a look at the gems again...Perhaps it's just me that finds them just toally cool. Cheers, Save-vs-DM |
| Flamy07-07-04, 10:25 PM | As some of you must know, I already wrote my first article and posted it in the Yahoo! Group. It means that Patches is stationed in Sharn. However, I'm not planning on keeping Patches in Sharn. He will move from Sharn to somewhere else soon enough, one of the Five Nations. That means I'll probbaly write one more article in Sharn and then move on, making a few articles for from around Breland till I reach somehwere else for reality's sake. Bascilly, add me to reporter's in game, but not to any specific area, cause I would like the freedom to do any article I wish. See you al soon. |
| Ch@pel07-07-04, 11:41 PM | This is moving along so smoothly! I really like the two articles up there, (about druids and one from Patches) great work guys. Ok a couple more things we should think about. First, we need to work up a staff list, and I would say it should include your name on these boards, your name on the Yahoo group (preferably the name of your character if you have one), and then your characters name. I'm having a little trouble keeping everyone striaght, plus each issue ought to give credit where it's due, right? So each character name should be listed with its story when uploaded to the Yahoo group. Mine are: Ch@pel, tobiasbarnacle, and Tobias Barnacle On this note, Saves vs DM, in the Staff section on the Front Page, could you put "{Saves vs DM's moniker} - Publisher", "Tobias Barnacle - Editor" or whatever and "Patches- Contributing Writer" for whoever else wants to join the staff. And about those sections, like weather, archive, and staff, maybe they should't be sidebars and on every page? That'd give us more room for the articles on the other pages (maybe two columns per page) and then the front page would look more like the Front Page. Keep the Contents bar on each page, though, just for the sake of user interface. Also, we should have some kind of formatting standard for stories and columns. I personally like some kind of "Dateline- Mol, Nymm 2nd, 998 YK" heading. The dateline part reminds me of the newsreels in old noir movies, like the Untouchables or something. Also, you should put the last name of the character writing the story in parentheses at the end. Just somethings to make it seem more cohesive. I imagine Saves vs DM will come up with some standard font and type-set. Thats all for now. |
| peterson07-07-04, 11:47 PM | Well, I would have used the same log-in name for both places, but Peterson was taken....quite a bit actually. Anyways, I like the suggestions - though I'm not so sure it would work with my column... Peterson |
| Ch@pel07-07-04, 11:55 PM | Originally posted by peterson Anyways, I like the suggestions - though I'm not so sure it would work with my column... Peterson What do you mean? Also, I found the staff page on the Yahoo group, so forget that part of the post above. |
| peterson07-08-04, 12:00 AM | Only that I'll be doing the "Ask Atgar" advice column and the Dateline - (Date) idea wouldn't be as authentic, I don't think. Perhaps I am incorrect on that, but it was just my inital thought. However, I will work with the editors to provide the column the way they want to see it. I'm just happy to be a part of it. | Flamy07-08-04, 12:53 AM | Flamy,Ronen, Patches That's my info Ch@pel. Also, thanks for the compliment on my Article, I worked hard on it and hope that form here on my articles only get better. I'm waititng to see everyone else's articles, cause we'll need a few to make the first issue. Now, I think I should start working on a new article. I just don't know what to write it about. Maybe soemthing in Sharn, or soemthing on the road. Perhaps soemthing outside of Breland. Well, whatever I decide to wirte I sure know one thing, Patches name isn't blue! |
| Tobias_the _invincible07-08-04, 02:38 AM | Well here's my info: Tobias_the_invincible,Tobias_the_invinci ble, Gilganarz I might change the middle one to gilganarz, I'm not sure. Thanks for the compliment on my article. |
| Save_vs_DM07-08-04, 07:07 AM | Right, updated the website once again (all this quick feeback actually helps, even though it does mean that my arse is glued to my chair redesigning stuff). All suggestions taken, noted and accounted. Dropped the gems (they were "purty" but did detract from things). Updated the font and dropped the ugly orange glow. I am most pleased with this version. Also added the two finished articles to give folks an idea of how things will look and added a few images as well. Also added in the printer friendly feature. Clicking on the little printer on the bottom of the page opens a new, centered window with a print me button on the bottom, cleared of images. Should make folks quite happy. As for the article end of things. My Publisher alias is Halandar Underhill. I'll be covering Karrnath as Cyrwyn GreyRock. Cheers, Save-vs-DM |
| dvsman07-08-04, 11:14 AM | Just wrote two articles and placed them in the yahoo folders to get proofread. I know I'm to provide artwork but, I'm doing some contract work for my old company so I figured I'd write these while I sat here at the computer. I will do some drawings this weekend along as present an idea for the a new Chronicle font. How many articles have we got to date? Oh if you want to know my writer alias' they are Karmet d'Frogg, half-orc druid with wanderlust. and Kolkheck half-elf busy body. Go Chronicle! |
| Scud-O07-08-04, 11:44 AM | Do you guys need more proofreading help? 'Cause I am willing and able. Let me know. As far as writing, I will have a piece hopefully end of day tomorrow. Thanks for the warm welcome, kids! |
| peterson07-08-04, 12:31 PM | Uploaded the introductory article for my advice column, needs proofreading. Also, a question for you Save_vs_DM: Is there a way to hyperlink my hotmail account into the actual article? Also, please notice that I've changed my email account addresses - I would like my email Contact link (on the main page of the Chronicle) to reflect the updated Hotmail one please. Thank you. There is more information on the Yahoo boards. Alright all, start sending any In-Character questions (and/or if you have any Merchants, Businesses, or Products - like The Amazing Self-Cleaning Sword Sheath, now with Warming Action! Coming soon from Denis, Magewright of Sharn ), please email those suggestions to me as well at: Ask_Atgar@hotmail.com Thanks all, Peterson/Atgar of Sharn |
| Save_vs_DM07-08-04, 09:11 PM | An enmail link in the actual article is easy as pie, Peterson...will be done. Your address has also been updated as well. Cheers, Save-vs-DM |
| Ch@pel07-08-04, 09:46 PM | Peterson- I gotta say, I love what you're doing with the advice column thing! It's such a personal touch, and I hope people do write in. Hopefully we'll become an authority of sorts about all kinds of Khovaire information. BTW- I'm planning on doing some sort of article relating to the adventure in this month's Dungeon, featuring Demise. I'm not sure what yet, though... |
| Darkest9007-08-04, 11:19 PM | Will you accept a Freelance Reporter for the Chronicle? Darwyn d'Aeretal is twenty-five percent elf and seventy-five percent no-he-won't-quit-bugging-you snoop. Dark alley ways in Sharn? The back rooms of the Lightning Rail? He's nowhere and everywhere, looking for stories to sell for a few silver pieces to buy his way across Khorvaire. Basically, I was wondering if you would 'buy' a few stories from me on an irregular basis, which would feature things from all over. And no, I am not talking about real money. I think that this project looks very fun and gives me a chance to excersize my writing abilities. So, can you hire me? :) - Darkest90 |
| EvilLego07-08-04, 11:45 PM | I am also interested in helping out with the Chronicle, and I think the website rocks so far! I don't have any art skill to contribute, but I am a fair writer. I've already poked my head into the yahoo group (obfuscatedus) and things seems to be ramping up pretty quickly! Some suggestions for sections/articles: Food (regional recipes, restaurant reviews, etc.) Travel (Accommodations and Modes of Transportation reviews) Arts & Entertainment (Plays, Books, Music, etc.) Business/Technology (Mage-ology) Rant/Rave columns If you are going to match the setting's schedule for the Chronicle, (3 times a week?) it might be best to spread out features over those 3 releases. Arts in 1st issue, Business news midweek, etc. you can reach me here: obfuscated AT hotmail DOT com -Robert Biskup |
| Flamy07-09-04, 12:36 AM | The more the merrier I say. We'd be happy to accept any articles you could provide us. We'll use them for suture issues if we somehow found ourselves too full. Actually, we'd be happy to accept any help for now. If we found ourselves too full of work then we'd have to start limiting entries. But I don't think that will happen for a while now. So feel free to send your material. Even if you don't plan on staying, one or two articles will be appreciated. |
| Roger Nicholls07-09-04, 12:50 AM | Not entirely sure if this is the sort of thing your after but i use them in my campaign so i figure you might like them. Eldeen Reaches – Guide To Grub, Pubs and Entertainment Issue 1: The Tower Inn The main aim of these weekly articles is to provide you, dear reader, with information that will help you avoid the worst inns and head to those where such offering of entertainment, food & ale are of the very highest standard. In the town of Merylsward in the Eldeen Reaches where the Orien Trade Road meets the “wilderness”,is located the most unusual of Inn’s. The Tower Inn has been constructed from the burned out ruins of an old guard tower destroyed during the war. The Inn consists of 3 floors with the lowest and part of the second floor being made utilising the original tower stone and the rest making fine use of the excellent hard woods from the regions. From the outside its many well lit windows and the sound of bawdy tavern songs attract, I suspect, more than its fair share of travellers as well as the locals. The innkeeper, a gnome by the name of Onrish Culraid is indeed a sight to behold. Usually dressed in bright coloured clothing Mr Culraid dedicates himself to his patrons. Apparantly without rest Mr Culraid tends to his patrons needs whilst ensuring his staff provide the best of service both in terms of food & drink as well as the entertainment. In terms of entertainment , every evening appears to have a different local, or even travelling, minstrel or storyteller on hand. The quality of the entertainment helps to ensure the patrons enjoy their evening to the fullest. The food is a mixture of hearty meat joints with think vegetable broths or more lighter fish dishes that are freshly brought in from the Eldeen Bay. The house speciality is a rich venison and red wine stew served with freshly baked bread and is a dish I can thoroughly recommend. Mr Culraid is popular with local brewers for ensuring that he serves many of their “special brews” and indeed has developed a reputation for spotting and then selling the finest of ales. To conclude I can only praise this fine establishment. With its superb food and ale supported by the excellent entertainment and genuine desire of the owner to make guests feel welcome, I can only think that the Tower Inn will serve its patrons for many years to come. | Tobias_the _invincible07-09-04, 02:01 AM | I can accept news. In my campaign, Gilganarz is an info broker. I'll accept Pm and give the info to a relevant chronicler. |
| Basketweaver07-09-04, 02:28 AM | I'm not sure if you're plagued with to many writers yet, but here's my throw in as a writer. I can't claim professional experience, but I can proclaim some decent writing here and there. To be perfectly honest, I am only becoming a Junior in High School this coming fall semester. However, I've not met an English teacher yet who hasn't been overly enthusiastic (to the point of exhaustion) about my writing. I have experience with writing newspaper articles for my JH, but I'm actually not sure if that helps my resume. :) I'm willing to write up just about anything, as long as I'm not required to draw (*shudder*). My e-mail address is TolkienWarrior@aol.com . Thanks! |
| Pallis07-09-04, 02:41 AM | Welcome all newcomer's who feel they can contribute something worthwhile, I say! Just skimming through the thread - love the idea of a tavern/food guide. Good job. Also for those artists, illustrators out there - sign up to the Yahoo boards and upload some of your work. We'll go from there. Nice work so far, everyone involved! |
| jedi818707-09-04, 08:34 AM | Fortune is shinninf on me rite now, as my work load is lite tomorrow, and I'll have the afternoon to write, so expect my first article, Digging for Dragonshards, late saturday, early sunday. |
| Akeira07-09-04, 11:27 AM | so, i would love to act as a field reporter. I'm currently running a game and plan to have plenty of adventures to write in news about. Is there a particular place i should be sending this information to? i can send news bi-weekly, since that's when we play. who's the bosses and what is our format for submissions? thanks for getting this idea into a tangible form so quickly. its quite intense. Akeira |
| peterson07-09-04, 11:47 AM | I've gotten my first Ask_Atgar email already! Alright, here's what I want to do, if you all would let me. For the first issue, let's go ahead and run the "Introductory to Ask Atgar" article I wrote. Then, I will (hopefully) be able to answer 1 - 5 questions per issue (depends on how many get submitted and the length of the answer). If for some reason, I don't have enough for the Advice Column, I'll create a news story for some part of Eberron not covered recently. I think that will work. Also, if you guys want me to help out with Proof-Reading, let me know. I could be a "stage-one" proof reader at least, if not give a final okay. Peterson |
| dvsman07-09-04, 11:50 AM | Hey Hey hey. Just posted a new picture and several advertisments at the yahoo home in the picture file, as well a long speach in the messages. Come on people write those articles. Keep them short unless your writing the feature, where our editor will have to decide which one to print.(we can only have one per issue) I think we have a great thing here. Go Chronicle!! |
| Roger Nicholls07-09-04, 12:49 PM | Originally posted by Pallis Just skimming through the thread - love the idea of a tavern/food guide. Good job. Would you like me to post this to the mailing list and submit them as a regular thing ? Regards Roger |
| Pallis07-09-04, 12:56 PM | Hello Roger To answer your question...whichever you feel more comfortable with. If you plan on being a regular contributor, sign up for the core team on Yahoo (search this thread for the link). If you only wish to contribute from time to time, then you can send your articles to the editor who'll send them through the proofreading process and upload them for you for 'publishing'! Thanks for your interest and all the best. |
| Davros the Fateweaver07-09-04, 01:16 PM | So if I'd want to send you guys an article I should just send it as an email to the editor? I'll be as sure as Siberys sending you articles for the Chronicle from time to time. Heck, if I find the time I'd love to be part of the core team, but right now my time is short so I'll just send you something. The Chronicle is superb! Praised be Flamy and the Chronicle team |
| Pallis07-09-04, 02:40 PM | Thanks for your praise Davros. We've generated a good group of like-minded people for the core team - from across the globe - and if you'd like to become involved, in whatever capacity (be it 'freelance contributor' or regular core team member) then that's fine with us. One point though: only take on what you feel comfortable with. This is a long term project and we want to treat it with the care and devotion of an actual product, something that a gamer will want to use at the gaming table in order to add to his/her campaign. I will note that, whilst we're looking to fill out the core team, we would expect the remaining positions to be taken shortly - quite possibly over the weekend. So if you've a mind to be a part of this and in particular a member of the core team, either in a writing or illustrating capacity, then search this thread for the Yahoo link and sign up. Of course, the Korranberg Chronicle will be announced first on these boards and from that point forth anyone can contribute by writing to either the editor or one of the staff. I should point out that while every effort will be made to read each article submitted to the live web-site, it may not be possible for a varied number of reasons to include all material. All I can say is that we shall try our best to accomplish whatever we can with the resources we have...and also that our aim is high, and will not be compromised. Sorry if that last bit was a little 'mission statement-ish', but I think regulars to this thread will agree with me on the points mentioned. Of course, any feedback is always welcomed. On that note, thanks for your time in reading and get ready for the imminent first issue... ;) |
| Roger Nicholls07-09-04, 03:02 PM | Originally posted by Pallis Hello Roger If you plan on being a regular contributor, sign up for the core team on Yahoo (search this thread for the link). . I do and i have ! |
| Pallis07-09-04, 03:15 PM | Good stuff Roger. Glad to have you with us. Looking forward to seeing whatever you contribute... |
| Saurenda07-09-04, 03:45 PM | I have not gotten a response to my pm nor have I revied any information on the yahoo group or what to draw for the first issuse so I assume you do not need me as an artist despite what was first told to me. Well good luck anyways guys. Could have told me you didn't need me rather than just leave me in the dark. I feel silly for wanting to help. At any rate I'll be working on some fan pictures despite this for warforged and Lady E, I plan to post them to my deviant account. |
| TwinBahamut07-09-04, 05:16 PM | I am not exactly the best of writers, but I am getting rather interested in this project. So, count me in (for short articles at least). My character (in his own words) Hi! My name is Sheith d'Jorasco, though I would prefer it if you didn't address me by my house name in public. I don't want Old Ulara catching wind of some of my newest expoits. She will exile me to Sharn again if she does, and there really arn't that many jobs worse than assistant healer at the Sharn branch of the Healer's Guild... Well, that is enough getting off track. Think of me as a set of ears in the hidden world of Dragonmarked House politics. I also hve a good look at the politics and events in my homelands of Karrnath and the Talenta Plains. Whether it is the shady dealings of the corrupt House Sivis (should I be talking about that to gnomes?) or House Vadalis' latest horse-stealing campaign, I have an inside scoop. My character (in my words) Sheith is something of the black sheep of House Jorasco. While he bears a dragonmark and is Favored in House, he is one of the very few halflings of House Jorasco who feels strongly connected to the ways of the Talenta halflings. He also did a few things to get on Ulara d'Jorasco's bad side in his youth. But, he still dreams of being patriarch of House Jorasco, and spends a lot of time with his eye on politics and economics in order to learn well. Amazing work pulling this together so far everyyone! I am going to try to sign up for that yahoo group now. |
| Pallis07-09-04, 06:38 PM | Hello Twin...looking forward to reading your political reports. See you soon as a member of the core team. Things are coming together quickly now. I'll do another listing of appointed positions soon - probably Saturday afternoon and then we'll all know which stage of the process we're at. Happy writing and drawing folks! I'll be back after some sleep...and oh yeah, I get a copy of Shadows of The Last War tomorrow!! :D |
| EvilLego07-09-04, 07:28 PM | @ Saurenda: I personally wouldn't take affront to not be immediately responded to. Everybody that has been posting on this board and on the message board (easily reachable if you read the posts in this thread) are tremendously excited that this project is developing as quickly as it is. If I were in your position, I would probably have picked a person directly involved and emailed them with my interest. At least, that's what I would have done if I felt that my offer to help had fallen into the cracks. I'm sure the Korranberg Chronicle would always like more contributions. -Robert Biskup |
| Pallis07-09-04, 08:27 PM | Just a note: We're currently trying to update everyone who has asked about positions at the Chronicle. Please bear with us at this time. What with the excitement at getting this off the ground, combined with the actual writing, the proof-reading, the web-designing, the strategising, etc it's been initially hard work to keep everyone posted immediately. Saurenda - hope you got my PM and feel happier now. EvilLego - you're right - contributions will always be welcomed, and read, though I refer to my above post in that not all submissions (particularly if we receive a full mail-box load!) can be 'published'. :) |
| Drathgar07-09-04, 11:13 PM | You guys ROCK!! This is a great Idea and it looks like there are alot of great people working on it. I have been following this post since it started and am excited about being a DM. Eberron is the first campaign that I am really excited about. I have DM'd before and the players say they love my adventures, but I never really liked them. They were pretty much straight Hack and Slash, but with Eberron and the politics and the Dragonmarks and the Organizations and the continuing villians....well you get my point. Thank you Keith for the AWESOME CS Thank you all for the Korranberg Chronicle and the plethora of Ideas and DM resources. Drathgar |
| Ch@pel07-10-04, 12:17 AM | Twin- you'd probably like doing one of the shorter pieces, like the classifieds or something like that. Just take anything you'd see in a regular classified section, and Eberr-ize it. I'm so glad we have lots of people who want to help out! None of us can do this on our own, so it's great to have a team. So if anyone is interested in writing, just look at the Chronicle site, and see which section you'd be best at writing for. Then write something and drop it at the Yahoo board. |
| Flamy07-10-04, 12:33 AM | Incredible. Not so long ago, the cretaion of the Chronicle was but a simple idea in the minds of many a DM. Now it has become a full-fledged project worked by seen of the finest writers and artists I have ever seen. It is wonderful seeing all this finally come to life. It is also great to see the positive reaction we have recieved from all the readers. Soon well to give these these fans of Eberron that which they have cheered us on to create, the Korranberg Chronicle. Well, as Pallis said, there's still a lot of work to do, so I have to go and do my share. I mean, I have to earn my keep somehow. Cause if I don't, all I'll ever know is that Patches' real name has nothing to do with milk. |
| Darkest9007-10-04, 04:25 AM | Well Flamy, a good idea gets recognized. And everyone loves a good idea. :D By the way, is the Korranberg Chronicle centered on a Newspaper with Eberron Elements, or Eberron with the perspective of a Newspaper. Basically, if our project is about a Newspaper, I am not very enthusiastic. If it is about Eberron, then man, this is where I'm at, yeah baby! I don't want to write for a normal Newspaper, I want to contribute to a 'semi-official' continuing story that details how Eberron is 'going'. I mean, look at what we've got. We have an awesome site, we've got an awesome staff of writers and artists to make it more awesome, and we have got an audience that totally loves the idea and will drool over everything we write. We are unofficially, an official Eberron source! That means that the world of Eberron progresses, day by day, with whatever we write. I know that I will take everything from the Korranberg as if it my player's are READING it, as if it is part of my campaign. Essentially, the Korranberg Chronicle controls Eberron. Think how much fun this is going to be! We get to determine where it goes... Did I mention this is awesome? Cool. - Darkest90 a.k.a. Darwyn d'Aeretal, Freelance Reporter |
| Pallis07-10-04, 06:10 AM | Our project is about Eberron, and the Chronicle is the tool we use to detail the world. Pleased to hear your enthusiasm for the cause! And you're right - this is going to be GREAT!!! ;) |

Once you've done this, add your details to the Chronicle staff section in the database area and then you're in! Any problems, PM either myself or Ch@pel and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. |
| Roger Nicholls07-10-04, 03:56 PM | Pallis - can i just add my name to the Database as covering the Eldeen Reaches or do i need someone else's permission to do so ? |
| Pallis07-10-04, 04:06 PM | Roger, if you want to write for the Eldeen Reaches then that's fine. Just follow the steps outlined below and you're then that area's official correspondent. It'd also be wise to send an email to SVD (follow the link on Yahoo) and notify him so he can add you to the list of staff writers that appears on the web-site. Hope that answers your question... |
| Pallis07-10-04, 04:08 PM | Obviously the steps are not below, they're above, in my previous message. |
| Basketweaver07-10-04, 04:09 PM | Oops! Posted after you did. :) |
| Pallis07-10-04, 04:15 PM | Yep, take the area Basketweaver - the principalities are yours to do with what you will. I think, personally, that the scurvy sea-dogs at Port Verge scared off the last applicant. ;) Just make sure to follow the steps outlined in my earlier post to ensure that the staff roster gets updated. |
| Davros the Fateweaver07-11-04, 03:13 AM | Can I take Stormreach with Davros Eldanith the half-elf? I still have to work on his personality. I'll post it on tuesday when I get my hands on a computer. |
| Pallis07-11-04, 05:37 AM | You can certainly generate articles out of Stormreach, Basketweaver... |
| Flamy07-11-04, 05:39 PM | Darkest90, your correct on assuming that this is Eberron in the form of a newspaper, but I would NEVER consider this control over it. These are ideas and, if a DM wishes, he can base his Eberron off it. However, I have personbal reasons for not wishing for people to take this as "the real Eberron". My reason is that, form the very moment I got into roleplaying, I was inrtigued by the idea of being able to change what I wanted from the world. I wouldn't want som KC fanatic to give his DM a hard time because something in his Eberron doesn't match the Chronicle. I've heard of things like this happening in FR and Dragonlance (HEARD of, never seen). Actually, that's the main reason why, entering this, I tried to make that rule that "no article can greatly alter the face of Eberron". Still, we are making Eberron a living breathing world, instead of a static world that only changes with a DM. To summarize all this up and make soem sense out of my thoughts, we discuss Eberron through a newspaper. We create hooks and situations for all. You'll be likely to see a headline like "Head of House Vadalis Kidnapped" But never "Head of House Vadalis murdered." We want to add realism, but not destroy what is already created. I hope that helps out a bit. On another note, Pallis, you listed me in Breland. While I don't mind staying in Breland, I hope that isn't a leach, cause I think that I coudl write an article awya from BReland once in a while. This would be the exception, not the rule of course. Edit: Doh! I hate being the first post in a new page. It makes me feel wasteful. |
| Pallis07-11-04, 05:52 PM | Hello Flamy The list was just an idea as to who was based where so we could have an idea of participants relevant to an area. From this we could figure out where we thin on the ground and allocate accordingly. I think we've about got it sorted now, which you'll see from the Yahoo board. There's gaps, sure, but nothing that we can't - between us all - fill in. So that really answers your question. If you want to hop into an uncovered area - or follow a villain that's crept out of your main writing area (Sharn or Breland for example, headed into Thrane) then go for it. I'd just like to second your point as the official mantra of the group. In whatever we do we should not change Eberron from what it is, other than through 'canon' products that will allow us to do this. I think that the good thing about us having a website is that a DM can print whatever he requires from it and go from there, almost building his own KC from the info we've put together. He doesn't like the news from Aundair - fine, he doesn't print those pages; another DM might focus solely on Sharn to the exclusion of everything else. The point is that DMs can take what they want from us and leave the rest. Have fun. This next time week... |
| Pallis07-11-04, 05:53 PM | or if I wasn't really sleepy... "..this time next week..." There, that makes more sense! I give thanks for proofreaders!! ;) |
| Darkest9007-11-04, 06:34 PM | @ Flamy Of course, I believe that I was implying something different than I intended. I do know of the rule against changing Eberron drastically. That is up for the DM to do. I also know that this is 'optional'. However, since we have the attention of all the Eberrites, they will more or less take this as events that are 'really happening'. While we shouldn't destroy what is already written, I do believe we should create, and the DMs can take it for their own campaign or not. All I am trying to say is that we should make the most out of this opportunity. |
| mythusmage07-12-04, 12:00 AM | Pallis, Saw your request over on the Namers thread. More than happy to join in. I've joined the Yahoo Group and I should have a contribution or two up for consideration before the next deadline. Coming up: Newsbits, rumors, gossip, and the odd oddment from the Theocracy of Thrane Reporter: Timk. A goblin ranger2/bard1. Native of the d'Qalost Tor region and current inhabitant of the city of Flamekeep. |
| 40Mr_E08-02-04, 10:38 PM | I love your ideas. When I went to check out the Yahoo Group I was told I could not get access because I was not a member. How can I become a member and access this unique product? -- PAE |
| Save_vs_DM08-03-04, 12:41 AM | Our website is free to all (check my signature), but we currently have closed membership to the PC Gen site, as we have all the chroniclers we need. Cheers, Save-vs-DM |
