| Vorj07-19-07, 09:51 PM | I like the visual that you came up with for the lighting rail, but i might make the the cars look a bit more carraige like, but that is only my opinion. What program did you use to come up with those awsome images? |

| Demangel07-19-07, 10:45 PM | I'd agree, the images are great :) However I think the feel of the cars themselves is a bit off. I always envisioned the engine to be modern looking (almost futuristic), but with a lot of Victorian flourishes. The cars should have even more of this quality. More flourish, more art for arts sake, less efficiency and less streamlining. Remember we're talking about a culture that does with magic what we instead do with science. This means the concepts of aerodynamics would be in their infancy at best. I would imagine a more organic artsy feel to the whole subject. Like i said, I think the engine looks about right, it has the right feel, but the cars look too modern. Remember that while no doubt many parts are made using Eberrons magic manufacturing tools, many parts will still be handmade by artisans, NOT factories churning out hundreds if not thousands of identical parts. A good way to think about the difference would be in examining firearms from the different periods. The older the firearm, the more stylized it is, the more attention was paid to art as WELL as craftsmanship. The more modern, the less frills it has, the more the design becomes economic and sterile. Apply this same kind of difference to this creation and I think it will take off the rest of the way. Things to add: Some stylization to the engine in the form of detailing (IE non essential lines and artwork added) Revamp the cars almost from scratch, make them look less like modern mag lev cars, and more like something out of a sherlock holmes novel. Something more romantic. Not sterile. Something that is more elegant, and less utilitarian. Sorry if this comes off as harsh criticism what with all the things I'm tossing at you, but I would hope you see my suggestions for what they are, just suggestions from one artist to another :) In no way harsh because I think your on the right er... Track... heheh, it just needs a bit more to make it feel Eberron in my minds eye :) KUTGW :) |
| N3palm07-20-07, 08:13 AM | It's nicely done, all the c&c you need is in the post above me, but I just wanted to say that I liked it and the Airships on you devaint art page too. They are nicely done. Just some things, maybe you could add some more wood and less round shapes. |

I'll see if I can load up the object at home and make some changes. |
| Nevarre07-20-07, 09:53 AM | I like the images alot! Great job. There have been a number of pictures of lightning rails and they have all been different (no doubt individual artists interpretations of the the vehicle). However let's not forget that the lightning rail has been around for a long time now, and the design is going to evolve over that time. Additionally the function is likely to affect the design of the vehicle, and I would also imagine that carriages built during the last war wouldn't necessary have all the artsy add-ons as materials would be used elsewhere or be at a premium. Like trains in the real world I think it would be great to have distinctive well known named vessels in the world - "Everyone remembers the Zephyr II that made the Sterngate Starilaskur run in 10 hours!" :) If anything I would say leave your design as is, name it, and make another! :) You could end up with a series of rails, all different and all 'personalities' in their own right. |

I agree, given the time the train has been out coupled with the fact some nobles have money to burn making this initial concept possible. |
