Lightning Rail Lines East to West are Cut, right? [Archive] - Wizards Community

It's not explicitly called out, but I'm assuming the lightning rails that are shown on the Mournland map are non-functional. Is that correct?

Or if they are functional, there are no regular trains that dare to run on them.

And , since the bridge west of Rekkenmark is cut, the contient is cut in half. The east lines have no way of meeting the west lines, correct?

Of course there are other ways to get around, but having the rail lines cut seems pretty major, especially since they seem to have survived the Last War mostly intact.

You are correct...the lines through the Mournland are non functioning...and it is a major pain. You can bet house Orien wants to re-establish an east-west link. But as it stands the LR does not go through the mournand not only because it is very dangerous...but the tracks are messed up.

Yup, according to Keith, east and west are not connected by Lightning Rail; the line on the map just shows where it *used* to go. There hasn't been any mention that the conductor stones have stopped working in the Mournland, just that there must be huge dangerous gaps. An adventure could be made of trying to restore and "fortify" the straight run through. That'd be a nightmare for passengers, though, never knowing if something horrible was going to attack ... I'd rather sail over in an airship.

The one bridge that should be rebuilt won't be (at least not now) because there's too much tension of the Karnaath border.

This is a case where House Lyrandar is getting a leg up on House Orien. If they want to ship cross-continent, they've GOT to transfer to ship or airship.

Fixing the bridge from Thaliost to Rekkenmark would be technically much easier, but would then be a political battle with factions in Thrane and Karrnath. I doubt undead bridge workers would be acceptable to Flamekeep. :D

Politics at that level would be for very high level characters, and a party that likes that kind of thing.

A new bridge could be built further north I suppose, to come into Aundair, but the river is wider and there are no cities or existing rail lines.

Could be some good adventures there, just protecting survey parties.

Maybe they aren't actually cut, but rather go into another plane. One way of course.

Maybe House Orien and House Cannith could build a sky train. Build elevated tracks hundreds of feet in the air. Or, they could tunnel...build a subway system across the Mournland. I think that'd be doable.

By the way, where in the campaign setting does it say that the lines are not functioning...I couldn't find it.
