| Nomadicc10-02-07, 02:14 PM | Hey all, Does anyone have a printable version of lightning rail maps from the Explorer's Handbook (or any other homebrew source)? Running WotVB this weekend and looking to print out the nice color ones, if I can... rather than using cheesy wet-erase pens. Thanks! |
| Label10-02-07, 04:20 PM | The best map is the poster map http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/eb_map/Eberron_Map_11x17.jpg It even has the distances already labeled. |
| OctaviusIII10-03-07, 03:14 AM | Take it to Kinko's for that nice, poster-sized goodness, as well as lamination so you can use markers on the map itself! |
| Nomadicc10-03-07, 09:51 AM | Heh... guess I should have been more specific... was referring to the maps of the lightning rail itself - the different carts (passenger, crew, cargo, etc). |

In that case, nobody here can legally give you that. It's copyrighted material, and so sharing it constitutes copyright infringement. Also, you technically can't even ask for it, I think because it's planning to infringe upon the copyright. Sort of like how you can be arrested for planning with accomplices to rob a bank, even if you never do. However, it's obvious you just weren't aware of this, so no biggy. By the way, this is covered in the Code of Conduct. A link to it is in the middle of the bar near the top of the screen, the bar that also has links to the Search function and "My Account." But yes, not having printable versions of maps from books I buy irritates me. The artists assigned to create them are good, whereas I draw similarly to a kindergartner. My suggestion, though, is to go to a library (public or your school's) and use the scanner to scan the map. Then enlarge the map to the right size (don't ask me how) and print it. It may not be perfect, but it will still look pretty. |
| Nomadicc10-03-07, 12:32 PM | Okaaay... well, to avoid copyright infringement in my game, I decided to create my own "interpretation" of the lightning rail maps in CC2. Sleeper Cart (http://taow.googlegroups.com/web/Lightning%20Rail%20-%20Sleeper%20Cart.JPG?gda=GSJ-RVIAAAClzIJc70YQd1NGrPacmDKD3a9Tu2mgDl3d Du4QyqigsGG1qiJ7UbTIup-M2XPURDRflsympfr7q2V1uYaqW00JBUoeqd3-CU8Voffu-MLiCEOiGywQSoUTAUoO8pf3o-U) More to follow... Enjoy! |

The printed Standard Passenger Cart is also different than the written description. The print says padded benches while the map shows beds... |

| G_O_D10-04-07, 07:21 PM | I hate to be picky, but I don't think lightning rail cars are 35 to 40 feet wide. This is one of the reasons I hate five foot squares for mapping. Otherwise great maps.:D |
| Nomadicc10-05-07, 09:27 AM | I totally agree... I noticed that when I started working on the maps. These things are bigger than my house! They're derived from the Exp Hbk, but the ones in WotVB are pretty much the same width. /shrug Given the world of magical airships, teleportation and demons, I'm not too worried about the realism. The lightning rail isn't physically limited by track width and physics like real world trains are. Still, if I had a few moments to spare, I'd go with a narrower, two-story version. |
| Nomadicc10-05-07, 05:09 PM | Here are the last two... | Wed01-14-08, 05:01 AM | Hey! I just find this topic and I want to thank you Nomadicc for your work! It was just something I need!! Great!! |
| Nomadicc01-14-08, 06:21 AM | You're very welcome! :D I used the maps for running WotVB and they worked out pretty well. I still think the scale is huge, each car being like 35' wide and 100' long. |
| Wed01-14-08, 06:25 AM | Yes, I noticed the big scale, but I'm sure I could do something about it (photoshop rules!) and if I'm lazy I could use them as they are and just say Eberron railway is huger than real one, and that's all! Thanks again! |
