| farwalker07-07-04, 12:38 PM | Hey all, I was reading through the CG last night when it occured to me that the lightning rail actually goes through the Mournland. I couldn't find any mention of it though. So I'm wondering if those lines are still used or not. If so it would make for one harrowing trip and pretty good mini-adventure. |
| Aaron L07-07-04, 12:53 PM | They aren't used, and I think there is an adventure based on them somehow. Could be used as the basis for a whole slew of cool adventures, actually :) |
| MavrickWeirdo07-07-04, 01:10 PM | The shortest lightning rail track through the Mournlands is aproximately 600 miles. At maximum speed (30mph) that is at least 20 hours. |
| Lord Arkhaven07-07-04, 01:15 PM | An adventure for a party to ride shotgun while the lightning rail makes a 'Mournrun' would right itself. |
| Zelgadas07-07-04, 04:12 PM | I'm fairly certain that most of the conductor stones in the Mournland were either destroyed or knocked off of the lightning rail's path during the Day of Mourning. That said, what if someone were to restore them? What if someone already is? What if the Lord of Blades has his tireless warforged minions working night and day to restore the lightning rail routes in the Mournland (and maybe create new ones), to make it easier to move forces from place to place. What if he wants to use it as a method for quick, unexpected strikes against neighboring areas? Something to think about . . . |
| ChronosCrow07-07-04, 08:17 PM | Actually I seem to recall reading that a certain group, named in the book, actually worked out of one of the boardering countries to the Mourland and ran a train into the Mournland to get supplies and artifacts from the area. I think they deal the Cyre artifacts back to the Prince of Cyre in New Cyre of Breland. These bandits probably use the lightning rail. |
| farwalker07-08-04, 08:49 AM | The main reason I ask is that if the lines are out of commission then that drastically increases the travel times between central Khorvaire and the East, such as the Mror Holds, Eastern Karrnath and the Talenta plains. This would have a dramatic effect on trade and persons travelling from those areas. For example all those Iron shipments coming from the 'Holds and going to Brelane. |
| Zelgadas07-08-04, 08:53 AM | Ah, but that's what airships are for, you see. House Orien may have the monopoly on trade and transportation in Western Khorvaire, but Eastern Khorvaire is all about Lyrandar. |
| Sereno07-08-04, 09:21 AM | If House Orien is smart, they're already working on way to circumvent the Mournland. Allowing the continued break across the middle of the continent would mean that Orien was ceding all long hauling to Lyrandar ... I doubt they'd take that lying down. A single Lightning Rail can pull far more goods than an airship. There's more profit in it for Orien than Lyrandar. They'd have to alter the path of an existing Lightning Rail line to go north or south around the Mournland; either working out a deal with Darguun to cross Kraken Bay in ferries (unlikely, though, as there's pirates in Kraken Bay) or redirecting the Vathirond/Aruldusk out to Olath and transfer to boats, there. I would imagine a fair amount a adventure to be had surveying new routes, dealing with residents of lands the 'Rail is to cross, protecting workers setting Conductor Stones. |
