malisteen 07-26-04, 02:35 PM	I recently bought Eberron: Shadows of the Last War, and was pleased to see that it counted for the RPGA player rewards program. This seemed to me a perfact introduction to RPGA, since I'm trying a new thing with Eberron to begin with. However, though it isn't mentioned in the adventure itself, SotLW is only available as an RPGA module until the first of August. That's right, the RPGA compatibility feature advertised on the adventure expires a week after the adventure's release. There's no way that this adventure could be used for RGA points by anyone who hadn't already scheduled the event before even buying the adventure! I feel somewhat ripped off, as the RPGA compatibility was one of the reasons I bought the adventure to begin with. I'm more then capable of running a campaign on my own. I'm more angry at RPGA then at the adventure or the Eberron people, but it is still very frustrating. There is no time for a GM who wasn't already part of RPGA to register and run this adventure for points, it takes more then a week for the membership card with the necessary id number to be processed and arrive in the mail! If this was supposed to be a bonus feature only for those already involved in the RPGA then it should have been advertised on the RPGA website rather then on the product itself. Furthermore, the dragon magazine adventure that is supposed to bridge the gap between The Forgotten Forge and Shadows of the Last War doesn't expire as an RPGA points earning adventure until more then a week after SotLW does! And The Forgotten Forge, from the campaign book, will be run at RPGA events for membership rewards points at D&D day in October. Does this not seem, well, kinda backwards to anybody else? Anyway, I sent a letter to rpgahq@wizards.com to ask them to extend the window in which SotLW can be played for rewards points to allow for new members. If anyone else was thinking of possibly running this adventure as RPGA sanctioned, taking advantage of an advertised feature of the product, but can't do it this very week, please send emails as well. Maybe somebody will listen.

However there are two things that bother me: One: the dragon adventure bridging the gap between FF and SotLW began before SotLW was released and expires as a points earning module after SotLW does, showing that it is possible for adventures to last longer then one week. Two: the RPGA points compatibility is an advertised feature of the product (says it right there on the back), but a group not previously associated with the RPGA cannot take advantage of that feature as the time it takes to register as a GM and recieve the necessary membership number in the mail is longer then the open window of the adventure. If the expiration date was listed on the product, I would have known this, but as it wasn't I assumed that that feature would be available to me, and it isn't. Like I said, I'm not angry at the Eberron people, or even really at the RPGA people. I think it was simply an oversight, or a simple mistake, and maybe if several people email them about it they'll extend the date to fix it.

What is the name of the Dragon adventure(Or did you mean Dungeon ?) and what issue is it in ? I need it as well. Hmm I figured that a player could play the adventure anytime they got the chance. I guess that cuts my group out of gaining any points from me running it. malisteen 07-26-04, 03:18 PM	I'm sorry, I did mean Dungeon, rather then Dragon. The adventure is appearantly in Dungeon 113. I believe that issue also comes with a poster version of the map on page 135 of the campaign book. I'm not sure because I don't own that issue (although I'll certainly be looking into it!). As my membership card has not arrived yet, I can't check this information first hand. I heard about all of this on the following thread from the RPGA boards: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=272237 according to someone on that thread the standard window for RPGA points-compatible dungeon magazing adventures is three months, which makes this week and a half window for SotLW seem like a simple mistake to me, one that will hopefully be corrected if brought to the right people's attention.

There was an error in our system for a short time that indicated 8/1 as the end date, however that has since then been corrected. This is still good for sanctioning until December.
