| Amurayi06-05-04, 08:52 PM | Heya, as you might know you will get 2 miniatures in the forthcoming "Giants of Legend" miniature set: The Warforged Fighter and the Warforged Titan. (Can be seen on my site: http://www.lemonbutter.com/dd) Can someone please post all classes, unique iconics and monsters from the Campaign Setting please (just the names) ? I am generating a list of possible minis coming out in the next mini set and was wondering what Eberron does provide already. Thanks. |

| Freakin Canadian06-05-04, 10:40 PM | I should say despite sometimes being snide in the post above, that I think Eberron is the result of some great hard work - and I think it will be a tremendous success. It's just not my cup of tea is all. If I offended anyone with the sarcasm above, I apologize. |
| Docrailgun06-05-04, 10:47 PM | But, once more: they're not robots. They'rejust the same as any other player character race, only their bodies are made of wood and metal rather than meat. Robots aren't alive. Constructs aren't alive. Golems aren't alive. Warforged are alive and have souls, and those souls were once in living bodies (which is why the Warforged could potentially be Raised or Resurrected). Originally posted by Freakin Canadian NEW RACES Warforged - robots, sure, sure, people will scream at that name and say words like "construct", "golems", but trust me, they are robots. |
| Hellcow06-05-04, 11:10 PM | Originally posted by Freakin Canadian Rakshasa Zakya - A Rakshasa that prefers to beat you over the head with a great sword rather than use intrigue and magic. I'll just note that while zakyas are accomplished fighters and enjoy combat, and while they lack the sorcerer abilities of the typical rakshasa, that doesn't mean that they won't use intrigue as a weapon. They possess the same shapeshifting and mind-reading powers as a standard rakshasa, and while they may beat you up physically when their true nature is revealed, it still may never be. A rakshasa zakya is also ideally suited to posing as a knight or warrior, as it possesses the martial skills to back up the disguise. As for snideness, don't worry about it, BFC. I appreciate your willingness to approach things with an open mind and to explain your reasoning. I always knew that Eberron wouldn't be for everyone, and it means a lot to me that you're at least willing to acknowledge the work that went into it. And I love the "Diet Werebear"... if I didn't already have a board handle, that would go on my list! |

Robot 1 a : a machine that looks like a human being and performs various complex acts (as walking or talking) of a human being; also : a similar but fictional machine whose lack of capacity for human emotions is often emphasized b : an efficient insensitive person who functions automatically 2 : a device that automatically performs complicated often repetitive tasks 3 : a mechanism guided by automatic controls Only the part in italics could be used to decribe warforged. But yeah, if you equate "construct" with "machine", they're robots. But then again, so are all other constructs. Do you dislike golems, too? |
| Freakin Canadian06-06-04, 01:27 AM | Do you dislike golems, too? Robots/Golems as a singular, expensive and often stupid construct? I guess I am okay with that. But hundreds, nay thousands, nay tens of thousands of robots running around a continent, sentient and on par, nay much powerful than normal humans, requiring no air to breathe and do not bleed or suffer from disease? Yeah, that doesn't sit well with me personally. It's just not to my particular taste for D&D. Again, as I said in another thread, if Warforged were toned down, de-emphasized and relegated to NPCs, I think I could swallow them. But they dominate the book, the write up in the race section about them is five times the length of Shifters - and also includes a sidebar. There's pictures of them in every single chapter, they are also literally the poster child for the campaign world. They are also wicked-ass powerful, a power gamers delight. Yes, personally its all too much for me - and yeah, they are just robots with window dressing names like 'construct'. No big deal though, I can see why a lot of people will like it - love it and run them often, to each their own...I hope Eberron is a smash success...I hope D&D online is a smash success...I can see why WOTC jumped on this world, it lends itself to both paper and digital very well - and it is a diverse and rich world with which to complement the D&D brand. Just for the record, I also don't particularly like Red Wizards, I never liked Bards in first edition, I hated Spelljammer with a passion - and I've never liked Modrons. Never the less, the sun still rose in the morning - and I still kept rolling d20's against armor class. |
| Amurayi06-06-04, 06:53 AM | Wow thanks a lot for you infos. I just updated my webpage. |
| jedi818706-06-04, 07:12 AM | But they dominate the book This is probably due to the fact that the original title for Eberron was Warforged. If you don't like the emphasis they have now, I'm sure that would have driven you crazy. The reason the Warforged are the poster children for Eberron(IMO), is because of the ideas presented they are the newest for D&D, I mean I've never seen(and allways wantd) and construct PC race, muchless one with LA+0. And I don't think they are as powerful as some would make them out to be. The armor restriction is high, have to take feats to improve armor or other abilities. The no natural healing and half effect of healing abilities are another big thing(yeah they have the repair spells, but thats assuming an artificer or wiz/sorc that wants to allocate spells to healing one charecter in the party). They have cool abilities, yeah, but they also have heavy limitations aswell. And Warfogd are robots, their just more human than the typical representation. |
| Alathayn06-06-04, 07:16 AM | So, back to topic. Hi Amuarayi, here are my guesses and hopes about Eberron minis. Remember I don't have the book jet, though it's on it's way damn slow german post : 1. Carcass Crab: Don't get freakins explanation wrong, they aren't Undead. Basicly they are Huge Crabs, but the can fire poisonous dart and stick battlefield carnage on theyr backs, so at first sight they look like a pile of dead warriors and other war leftover. Would make a great mini and has the right power level, but it's huge, so we won't see one for a while. 2: The Iconic Artificier, though I wouldn't expect to see many artificier minis. Theyr abillities don't seem to be to well siuted for skirmish. 3. Dolgaunt: Take a look at the picture of one in the last gearing up for Eberron and then tell me these guys wouldn't make a great mini. 4. Dolgrim: What freakin said, but I like it. 5. The Lord of Blades: A Warforged NPC of level 12, that may make a apearance as unique mini. 6. Aerenal Elf Cleric: Elves in Eberron venerate their deadless ancestors instead of gods. Wouldmake a interesting mini. 7. Dragonmarked Char: This would be a mini with some kind of inherited magic tatoo that gives him some spell-likes 8.Some uniques, that show important NPC's from the adventures "Shadows of the Last War" and "Whispers of the Vampire's Blade" |
| N'wah06-06-04, 07:33 AM | Now, not only do I not have the Eberron CSB, but I also haven't played D&D minis, so I'm doubly disadvantaged. But I'm opinionated enough to not care and you never know who's listening- maybe our rambling will be the inspiration for some new minis! First off, is there an Iconic Artificer? I'll have to put that up in the "I Have It" thread. Sounds cool- maybe if there's a Warforged faction? Do they add factions all willy-nilly? Because I have a hard time seeing some minis getting along by virtue of alignment alone. The LoBster would make a kickass mini, though again that whole faction thing could be a problem. LoBster: Hey! Fleshies! Get off my porch! Blue Dragon: But Mr. Blades, we've come to offer you a job as leader of our warband. LoBster: I don't work with fleshies, bub. Rakshasa: Hey, warbands aren't about differing ideologies, it's all about alignment. You know, the archaic factor for determination of smiting ability. And I believe, as you'll see in these books, that we are all the same alignment. LoBster: Hmm... you've got a point. Let me get my adamantine two-bladed sword. Rakshasa: Excellent. LoBster: By the by, didn't I read about you in Lawwful Evil weekly? I loved you as Willy the Torchbearer. That was the bomb. A DragonMarked character would make a pretty cool leader, too- depending on the Mark, there's a lot of room for different abilities. |
| Knight Otu06-06-04, 08:18 AM | Originally posted by Freakin Canadian Deathless Types - a monster that died but returned in spiritual form, so we'll eventually see Deathless Trolls etc. etc. Basically Keith Baker wanted his own stamp on undead...and these generally would whip undead's butt. The Deathless were originally created for the Book of Exalted Deeds. Keith Baker had no part in the creation of this new type. They were simply revived (no pun intended) for Eberron. |
| jedi818706-06-04, 08:37 AM | The LoBster would make a kickass mini, though again that whole faction thing could be a problem. Thats easy enough to fix, give him a comander ability that boosts other warforged, and have him allow any warforged to work in that warband. Problem solved. On the mini's idea(I don't play, but have the mini's handbook(for classes and monsters)) I'd like to see a dino riding halfling, actually a couple(one on a fasteith, one on a clawfoot, and another on a glidewing). I'd also like to see each Druid sect get represented. Oh yea and a shifter would be cool(I'm thinking mid shift or full shift). A few deathless should come. I'd love to see an artificer with a greatsword, and alot of enchanmens for it. |

There's pictures of them in every single chapter, they are also literally the poster child for the campaign world. Actually, BFC, not counting the sidebar the warforged description is 1529 words, compared to 1506 words for shifters. Including the sidebar, it's 2188 words -- hardly five times the shifter entry. Warforged get 5 feats in chapter 3, compared to 11 shifter feats. There are pictures of warforged in Chapter 1, 2, 4, 5, and 11 (and the one in 11 is the Warforged Titan, which is pictured because it's statted) -- not quite every chapter. By comparison, shifters are pictured in chapters 1, 2, 4, and 12. Wargforged do get the component magic items, but shifters get more feats. Warforged are in some ways the poster child for the setting. They showcase the incorporation of magic into the world. They reflect on the recent war. And they have to deal with the question of what happens to a warrior after the war. But I think it's a pretty severe stretch to say that they dominate the book. Look at the 29 organizations in Chapter 8; where's the focus on warforged? Likewise with Chapter 7 -- they get a few paragraphs in the Mournland description. As always, you are entitled to your opinions, and I won't argue against your reasons for disliking them. But since you have the book and others don't, I'd like to prevent confusion about the actual content. |

My apologies, for skewing the numbers, I thought they were accurate at the time I wrote them - and I have no problems with anyone setting me straight if I got it wrong...and I get a lot wrong, the folks on the minis board can tell you that. I still think its fair to say they dominate the book, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, considering the enthusiasm for them I've seen on this board. But your point about the word counts is well taken and I apologize. Adamantine Warforged and a Warforged Juggernaut are two I'd bet even money on for the next minis expansion. |
