Hey there,

I've been trying to put together a character for use in an Eberron campaign. I've got the general concept behind the character down, but I have no idea how to actually put this guy together.

The numbers: starting this character at 2nd level, on a 30-point buy. Relevant house rule of note: half-orcs gain +1 skill point per level, like humans do. Allowable books are core, Complete series, and Eberron books; others I could possible get approval on a case-by-case basis.

The basic idea: I want to play a half-orc out of the Demon Wastes, a cleric of Kalok Shash. I like the idea of a spell-casting crusader who is worshipping the Silver Flame, but in a fashion that would make the Cardinals in Flamekeep ask, "What the...?" :)

The brick wall: this is the first time I'm considering making a cleric in 3rd edition, and I'm not really sure what things will work in making a chararcter.

As far as attributes, I was figuring on something like the following (which is with racial mods): Str14 Dex10 Con14 Int10 Wis15 Cha12 (I didn't like the idea of not being good at turning, so I decided to plow a few points into overcoming the racial -Cha).

I am utterly lost when it comes to Feat selection for this guy. Zip, nothing, I'm a blank. Some item creation (I was thinking potions or wands)? Are any of the Divine feats really worth the choice? Some metamagic? Spell Penetration? Anything? Help!!!

Domains were at least easier than that; he's going to have to Good and Truth (from RoE) domains.

I had two separate thoughts about multiclassing and prestige classes. First, I was toying with taking a single level of barbarian for two reasons: access to martial weapons (specifically, the longbow that is the Flame's favored weapon), and so I could grab a few ranks in Survival (the idea that anyone could live in the Wastes without some ranks in that skill would be quite hard for me to swallow). Of these two motives, the second is actually the stronger one. The other thing I was thinking about was a few levels of Exorcist of the Silver Flame. Probably not the full 10 levels, I'd be loath to sacrifice too many caster levels, but 4-6 levels of the class could be fairly useful (having a weapon that's always good-aligned, yummy; if it's piercing, there's a Grade-A raksasha-whomper).

Man, if anyone could help me beat this into shape, I would really appreciate it. Thanks a ton.

If you're going to be combat-oriented, i guess you should start thinking in geting Divine Metamagic (Complete Divine) and Persistent Spell (Complete Arcane), (plus Extra Turning for the lack of turning attempts)... if you're going to get the Barbarian level, one good feat for to not lose much of your caster level would be Practiced Spellcaster (Complete Arcane, or Divine)

I don't know if that helps on what u're asking... anyway...

I second the Divine Metamagic+Persistant Spell combo. Divine vigor can be a nice boost too, from what I remember. If you're going with Divine feats extra turning will probably come in handy, since you'll be splitting your turn attempts between your divine feats and actually turning undead.

You might also look at the two "Shadowbane" prestige classes from Complete Adventurer, I remember them being nice and Silver Flame-ish but still kind of out there.

Ahh, I love this kind of stuff. Take my suggestions with a grain of salt, though.

Half-Orc Cleric of Kalock Shash

Suggested 30 point buy abilities

Str 14 (4 points), Dex 12 (4 points), Con 12 (4 points), Int 10 (4 points), Wis 15 (8 points), Cha 12 (6 points)

If you have access to Unearthed Acana, I would highly suggest the smiting cleric variant that lets you trade turn undead for Smite Evil as a paladin. If you can get this, then I suggest the following feat progresision.

Class Progression
If you want barbarian, here's what I suggest for class progression

Level 1: Barbarian
Skills: Craft (Bowmaking or Weaponsmithing) 4 ranks, Intimidate 4 ranks, Listen 4 ranks, Spot (cc) 2 ranks, Survival 4 ranks

Level 2+: Cleric
Skills: Concentration +1 rank, Knowledge (Religion) +1 Rank, Knowledge (The Planes) +1 rank.
I'd throw in a few ranks of Diplomacy and Spellcraft as points allow as well.

Feat Progression

1: Silver Smite
3: Improved Smiting (Complete Divine)
6: Extra Smiting (Complete Warrior)
9: Extra Rage
12: Raging Luck

This guy is a total melee powerhouse with some great casting supporting him. Though you can use a bow, you're going to be quite good in a toe to toe battle as well. I think you'll like the smiting cleric better than turning, as it will be useful more often than turning undead.

Hmmm, that's quite the intriguing idea, Save. I'm gonna roll that one around a bit, see how I feel about it. I do see one pitfall, though. Wouldn't I have to take Cleric as the level 1 class to get Silver Smite as my level 1 feat?
