| Elliot2210-29-04, 01:12 PM | Okay, since Living spells came in through Ebberron, seemed like the best place to add this. Can a weapon be enchanted (like a normal magic item) to create/summon/cast a living spell. Like to create a living fireball to battle, just like a normal item can cast a normal fireball? Can a normal item be enchanted to cast a living spell (not a just a weapon)... confused? |

You might be able to bind a living spell to an item, release the spell (under your control hopefully :P) and then recall the spell back to the item to use again later. But the trick is getting the living spell in the first place. I'd imagine you'd have to enter the Mournlands and find yourself a real pisser of a spell to make it worth while. One of those expanded, maximized living fireballs that wander about. My 2 cp deposit, -X |
| JDubTrafficGod10-29-04, 01:48 PM | I'd think so too, but how would you figure the difficulty of controlling the spell? Also when the living spell was captured could there a chance of the original spells' casters' personality being forged with the weapon? i.e. a NE level 8 Sorcerer casts a fireball just before the disaster, the fireball becomes living and wanders about doing what living fireballs do, is then captured into the weapon by the party, could the personality of the Sorcerer be forged to the weapon creating a NE intelligent weapon with the ability to cast out living spell and possibly control the user of the weapon? Just a thought. |

Good thoughts there. I didn't even think of that, yeah. That'd make for one hell of a surprise on an enterprising character thinking to enslave living spells for fun and profit :) You you give it a "positively, absolutley, without-a-doubt MAYBE" Yup :D I think it's neat but I dunno if anyone else would let that fly. -X |

Yeah, it's talked about in the secton on Dragonshards and you'd need the Bind Elemental feat as well I'd imagine to work this kind of mojo. I'd probably also require some Spellcraft, Knowledge: Arcana and Craft checks to be needed to make this bad boy of an item as well. It's really neat though. Could definitely make an adventure based off of this kind of thing. Like the Lord of Blades could be enslaving living spells to use as weapons against the flesh-bags that live beyond the Mournlands, the PCs hear of it. Granted, the spells aren't too smart or worthwhile of beings, but at the same time, they are being enslaved and they are going to be used by some messianic mechanical madman (Say that three times fast!) to be used to kill the general populace. 2 more cp thrown into the coffers, -X |
| Argonel10-29-04, 03:59 PM | I would say it is absolutely possible. However it would require an artifact or eldritch device to make it work. Something like that probably breaks a couple rules and bends 4 or 5 more. On a DM side I would probably make it a focus of a large, challenging quest, as a player you should discuss it on the sidelines with you DM and see if they would be willing to work it in. It would defenately be a unique weapon and it would be impossible to put a fair value on it. |
| Elliot2210-29-04, 10:17 PM | Umm.. finally (when i couldn't get to a computer) i realized something. How can I bind the living spell into the weapon using a dragon shard.. When it is not an elemental? Living spells are oozes. So would it be that you place like a summon monster (A really high number) on the weapon, that can only summon the one ooze.. Or how exactly would it work? Or can elemental binding be done on oozes and I jsut don't know the rules? Or is an Living spell an Elemental Ooze? |

But nothing says that Khyber shards are only able to bind those two things...they are just the easy stuff. I would say that oozes, including living spells, might be controlled by a unique spell, which might then be incorporated as an item prerequisite for an item that could call it up. Such an item would certainly use a khyber shard. I think a spell could do it. I won't be surprised if a means to create and control living spells is eventually published. They are just cool enough to be obsesively studied by every mage since their discovery. Eventually, someone is going to figure it out. Dragonshards are mostly flavor; there is no price given for them, and not much you can just do with one, as far as I know. They are just part of Eberron's favor...you use some to bind things, others to enhance. |
