| matrix_king305-28-07, 08:42 AM | I promise my players to make a long campaign(start level 1 and finish level 20) in Eberron. From now, my players explored Baran's Keep ruins(that I changed for a ancien citadel that served during the Last War). I have all summer to prepare my campaign. My principal Idea is, that King Boranel will die. Assasinate by the parliement. They just found that is dead waited too long. Now, Aundair, Thrane and Karrnath are planning to take control of this kingdom. The parlement planned this murder because they want a republic. What do you think about that and do you have better ideas? |

A group of 1st level characters could get swallowed up by something this big. I'd think they'd need to be at least around 5th or 6th level to get mixed-up in things this major. If you decide to go this route, be warned. Some players expect later campaigns to reflect the repercussions of their previous characters' actions. Killing Boranel is huge. He's a dynamic character, and one that goes a long way toward holding Khorvaire together. Without him (and especially if he's assassinated), Breland and all of Khorvaire would be a very different place. |
| cancerousmango05-29-07, 02:52 PM | Boranel's funeral would be the saddest day in Khorvaire. Portray it as such. Get the saddest music possible. Make it be raining or snowing. Have mages make illusions of his great deeds. Pretty much, imagine what Steve Irwin's funeral should have been, and make it cost a million GP. Steve Irwin's funeral should have ended with a nuclear bomb being set off 3 miles from the earth's surface, with the murderous stingray crucified on the bomb. LOL. |

LOL. lol, Awsome, and i'm not his biggest fan, not that i had anthing against him. But to the OP, like other posters before me; i would'nt do it, they explained why. |
| ORC_Paradox05-30-07, 06:25 AM | Have the king sense something is up, and on the day of the assassanation, he's not there, but has a changeling "stand in", who is killed. The king wants to know who is behind the plot, and so goes in to hiding, having the party be the ones to track down and bring the killers to justice. |
| Londhiel05-30-07, 07:11 AM | @matrix_king3: everything is nice and cool, if you want to bring khovaire to the edge of an apokalypse, but ask yourself: khovaire is continent with low-lvl NPCs so your campaign will go on smoothly but only to a lvl of 13 max 15. And what then? Use some Dreaming dark or Dragon below plots, and a small tip: You should start small, with death of a local Aristocrat who is known on Brelish Royal palace.... ....and the main twist doesnt need to be death of Boranel but kill, Karnnathi siblings Boranel have in care(to improve peace), and with death of those Karnnath attacks Breland, Breland makes an alliance with religiously buffed Thrane which seeks out how to get back eldeen reaches and in a matter of turns or days you have Last War happening all over again. The assassins can be spys of Dreaming Dark, Lords of the dust etc. Im sorry for grammatical errors, my english isnt good |
| maollelujah05-30-07, 10:07 AM | The question to ask was it really done on Parliaments behalf or on someone else's? Is one of King Boranel's sons strangely turning into the leader noone thought possible. Is he starting to inspire the throngs? As for the assassination, I would have a lieutenant of the Kings Shields be in on it, and a minor member of parliament (clearly someone's lackey.) They use an explosive device to blow up the King during one of tours of the Kingdom. The King stops at a small manor house for the night, and the explosive device is planted underneath his bedroom. The King somehow survives and stumbles outside where he is stabbed to death by the lieutenant before anyone else can see. "The King has been stabbed, the assailant is fleeing, follow him men," the lieutenant cries and orders his men to chase after the imaginary assassin. But it hasn't gone off without a hitch, the King has left a clue as to who has done it, during the struggle with the lieutenant he snatched the unit pendant worn by the lieutenant that denotes him as a member of the Kings Shields. The lieutenant realises this too late and the PCs are already on the scene. The Lieutenant is someone the PCs must have known before. I would have the PCs have met him and make him a contact, appearing to be an ally, but all along hindering them. The Members of Parliament I would have them appear to have dealings with the Emerald Claw. Some how to keep the PCs off of their real goal, all the while leaving sutble clues of their intentions and that they have some shadowy leader. the Explosive Device or the device, the PCs learn is something that mention and have to find out about. When they find out the true nature and purpose of the device, the PCs rush to the King's camp only to find it is too late. The Kingdom Tours This should be something the PCs see early and make it very natural, so they don't expect this is where the assassins are going to strike. The PCs are ordered to track down the lieutenant and his allies who have fled by the Prince. While on the bigger stage the Prince declares members of Parliament part of the conspiracy to kill the King. The nation rallies around the Prince and against the parliament. The Prince with the PCs as allies start on a campaign to capture/kill the Prince's rivals as the Prince subtley convinces the PCs of his rivals guilt. (They fight against a Lord of Dust, defeat a local cell of the Emerald Claw, Kill off several powerful nobles.) Well this is all I have right now. |
| Edymnion05-30-07, 01:01 PM | My advice for a long term campaign over a full 20 levels with an overarching metaplot? Use the Dreaming Dark. They have tendrils in just about everything, and want to infultrate Khovaire and pacify it the same way they did Sarlona. They have already mind seeded high ranking officials, they literally control the Deneith enclave in Sharn, and they make the perfect mastermind for any ploy you could imagine. |
