Looking for a Eberron Fantasy Grounds campaign. :) [Archive] - Wizards Community

I've recently gotten interested (really interested) in Eberron, and have gone so far as to infect my best friend with my new-found obsession as well. I'm used to DMing Greyhawk campaigns (practially 95% of my DnD experience), so being a player in an Eberron setting is a /huge/ step for me. I love to roleplay, and I enjoy political intrigue and puzzles just as much as bashing things on the head. I have a good sense of humor, I'm patient, and I'm good natured about winning and losing.
I recently purchased Fantasy Grounds ( www.fantasygrounds.com ), and I think it's absolutely stunning. If there are any Eberron games played on Fantasy Grounds that are currently going on, or if there's a DM about who's looking to start one up, please let me know so that my friend and I can join.

08-22-05, 02:51 AM I run games online, but I do not, however, run them on Fantasy Grounds. I use OpenRPG - its free, its easy, and it works. Not to mention I've been using it for years. Had you used that medium, there might have been a spot for you and your girl. Good look on fantasy grounds, however, its a good looking program.

08-22-05, 05:10 PM Hey, that's your choice. I mean, I don't find the program glitchy at all, and I'd rather have a significant area of text to Roleplay over a huge map that I don't even always use.

But hey, if you want to spend time looking for a game while I play and DM them, thats your choice!

08-22-05, 05:49 PM Pardon the intrusion, but I'm curious where one finds out about these online games and how one joins? I've tried several play by email games that haven't lasted the long haul and am always on the prowl for something spiffy like this.

Also - as I'm clearly a novice in this arena - are these type of games time sensitive? Or can a player post at their convenience and then await a reply later?

Fantasy Grounds (www.fantasygrounds.com) is a program that simulates a table-top setting, complete with die to roll and character sheets and maps etc, the players and DM log on and play together online, much like they would in real life... and so, it's all real-time. OpenRPG is similar to Fantasy Grounds, is free, but (imho) isn't as refined or as effective, and isnt nearly as newb-friendly.

Both are effective, however.

08-22-05, 08:04 PM Asuril pretty much covered all the points, and named two of the possible programs that simulate a tabletop experience. Fantasy Grounds and OpenRPG (http://www.openrpg.com/). One is free and the other costs money, but it looks alot better in terms of the interface, you might say. I don't think that Fantasy Grounds has enough real estate for the actual chatting and roleplaying, as it puts alot of emphasis on the map and combat.

Both do use real time, however, and basically games are scheduled similarly to real life games. You have time slots, and days you run. I run my Eberron game on Tuesday's at 10ish est. The only problem is that people who play over the internet are alot less reliable then in real life. Some people miss sessions.

OpenRPG is more of a community then Fantasy Grounds. People hang out in the lobby and chat about RPG's mostly, sometimes other subjects.

08-22-05, 08:04 PM It's quite a fun program, I rather like it. It takes a lot of work on the DM end, though. I might be persuaded to run a game over it (I have the GM interface). If there is enough interest I could see if I could run one.

08-22-05, 11:03 PM Unsurprisingly, there's a lot of players seeking an Eberron game via FG. There's plenty of interest. Tek is right though about a lack of a large community like OpenRPG, but there is a community... and games fill up quick.

If I managed to round up 2 more players (for a 4 man team) for a campaign, S.v.DM, might I convince you to run one?
