| On_the_wings_of_TPK05-16-07, 11:59 PM | This was inspired by the first level adventure found in the ECS. O-tey so it steals the opening is stolen right of the adventure mod. The PCs (1st level 32 PB builds unknown at this point) The find the body on the bridge in the pouring rain, and chase off the agent of the LOB. (I'm really hoping she doesn't hoop her climb check and fall, but that could be interesting too.) The dead guy is a spy of <insert nation here>. On his person is a coded map to the Mcguffin. Also after the mcguffin is house Cannith, particularly that baron dude who is still manufacturing war forged. To this end he has hired a hunter/hit squad of some kind to track down the map to the mcguffin. The LOB is also after the mcguffin as it will further his plans of world domination. And of course the orginal spy group (royal eyes of Aundar are screaming my name) is looking for the map that i dropped in my PCs lap. And of course the dark lanterns would be trying to figure what the recent spy activity is about. What I'm looking for is: 1) What is the mcguffin and why would everyone be after it. I'm thinking maybe its a Schema to the artifact of ultimate destiny. 2) A nation that would want the mcguffin, and have the resources to lunch a covert incursion into Brelend to get it. 3) The physical NPCs, to wit House caniths bounty hunter. LOBs hunter hit squad, the nations spy's, and a couple of dark lantern like guys. I can prolly do this on my own, but am looking for ideas on the stat side of things. 4) After typing this out it just occured to me that either house Phiarlan and/or Thuranni would probally have their figures in this pie as well. What would their angle be? Thanks for the help. |

UM that's the mcguffin of the actual adventure. :) 2) A nation that would want the mcguffin, and have the resources to lunch a covert incursion into Brelend to get it. I personally try to limit the number of groups involved in a story. I don't like everybody coming out of the woodwork. I feel it can muddy the story. Why not just use Breland's intelligence service and FBI? The Dark Lanterns + The Citadel = The PCs declared enemies of the state. :) Wanted posters everywhere. You can also throw in Thurranni. They are more ruthless, ambitious and evil than Phiarlan (who strive to preserve the staus quo) so will make better direct foes. And they have the resources to launch a covert operation in any nation. 3) The physical NPCs, to wit House caniths bounty hunter. LOBs hunter hit squad, the nations spy's, and a couple of dark lantern like guys. I can prolly do this on my own, but am looking for ideas on the stat side of things. Do you have Sharn City of Towers? If not go to a bookstore that has it and look at some of the sample NPCs and prestige classes. This will be very helpful with the DLs and Citadel. A house Cannith wand adept(also in S:CoT) would make a sick bounty hunter. And pair him with a Sentinel Marshal if you do get the PCs declared terrorists. Also within that same adventure is a LOB follower. Make a couple like him and you have a hit squad. 4) After typing this out it just occured to me that either house Phiarlan and/or Thuranni would probally have their figures in this pie as well. What would their angle be? Acquisition of the coded map. I'm sure they have great code breakers. After that they'll go for the mcguffin themselves. MAYBE sell it but not for mere wealth. It'd be traded to a monarch for increased power/influence. |
| On_the_wings_of_TPK05-17-07, 11:57 PM | .... UM that's the mcguffin of the actual adventure. :)I understand that. But the artifact thingy isn't called the "mcguffin". I looking for the mcguffin thing, actual. What is it, and does everyone care? I personally try to limit the number of groups involved in a story. I don't like everybody coming out of the woodwork. I feel it can muddy the story. Why not just use Breland's intelligence service and FBI? The Dark Lanterns + The Citadel = The PCs declared enemies of the state. :) Wanted posters everywhere. And they have the resources to launch a covert operation in any nation. I perfer to go with more NPC groups becuase it gives me more villians to play with, and my PCs more options, in terms of playing nPCs agianst each other, and possiblely jioning sides. I entend this to be a worlewide adventure with lots of fast paced action, and plenty of mystery. Do you have Sharn City of Towers? If not go to a bookstore that has it and look at some of the sample NPCs and prestige classes. This will be very helpful with the DLs and Citadel. Also within that same adventure is a LOB follower. Make a couple like him and you have a hit squad. Yes i do own sharn city of towers. Great book. The only problem is that my PCs are all 1st level, so pitching them up against NPCs that are 5th + level is more bastardly then I'm prepared to go. I was hoping for sujjestions not to exceed 3rd level. Like maybe a bounty hunter NPC who is a 2nd level ranger, and something like a cool 3rd leevl artificer build with a troop oof 1st level warforged. Maybe some warforged warriors for the LOB, with a warforged rogue for his BBEG agent person. Acquisition of the coded map. I'm sure they have great code breakers. After that they'll go for the mcguffin themselves. MAYBE sell it but not for mere wealth. It'd be traded to a monarch for increased power/influence. Yaa i figured that would be cool. maybe one of the houses could be information brokers to everyone else infolved. I think I'll go with that. One spy house trying to accire the map to sell it, and the other selling information to all parties. Perhaps I'll sprintle in some extra gold with which my PCs can buy their secrets, maybe I'll add some side quests.. that poses a second question: What type of quest would House phierlan trade for secret stuff? |
| Rerecros05-18-07, 12:34 AM | The mcguffin is what turned Cyre into the mournland. |
| Rechan05-18-07, 12:43 AM | This is real simple: Currently the LoB has a wonky, malfunctioning creation forge. The schema would allow him even more control over the Creation forge, allowing him to double up on production/fix the problem/make more powerful WF out of the gate. So naturally he's going to bust his rusty arse to get ahold of that. Of course, Merrix wants the same thing. Or someone else who holds a Creation forge (The DD looking to make more Psi-forged as low-level soldiers? Thrane and the Silver Flame, looking to toy with more warriors for an upcoming crusade into the Demon Wastes? A cabal of artificers and mages from the Lhazaar Principalities looking to build themselves a naval fleat for conquering?). Alternatively, this schema could be the final piece for an Eldrich Machine that would allow control of warforged within a mile radius. The Swords of Liberty could use that to overthrow the King/stage a huge riot. Some anti-Forged group could seek it with the intention of causing a riot and have the Warforged kicked out of Sharn/Breland. Or some other Spy Agency looking to cause surgical strikes within someone's borders without it being traced back to them. |
| Escef05-18-07, 05:44 AM | If you want to get really wonky... The treaty of Thronehold made the manufacture of warforged illegal. Any government (at least of the five nations) that attempts to make more will be looking at trade sanctions from the other signitaries and outright invasion from at least one of them. So, the quest is on for a weapon to swing the balance of power. What's the next logical step up the ladder from robots? That's right. GIANT robots! House Cannith would love to start marketing battlemechs (suggested names: WarMech, WarWalker, BattleWalker, MageWalker, Arcanomech... I'm sure more can be thought up). Turn any soldier into an ogre or giant sized engine of death? Yeah, I'd buy that. |

War-Avatars.....House cannith was devoting resources into building them in secret, but when the warforged breal through happened that project was shelved, as more resources were devouted to making the warforged better. After the war, and subsequent house split the forge, and labs were the avtars were being developed was lost...untill now. That sounds pretty cool...I'd have to come up with some kind of constructish template for when a the mecha suit is worn, but that shouldn't be difficult. the two fanboys in my group are gonna love this! |
