Hi all,

I just picked up a free adventure offered by Malhavoc Press called Looking Glass Deep (http://www.montecook.com/cgi-bin/page.cgi?mpress_LGDeep_announce) (by Mike Mearls) and after reading through it I thought it could make a nice Eberron adventure with very little effort/work done for modifications.

The plot is a simple one. It's basically a site based adventure about a group of hobgoblin bandits who have taken up residence in an abandoned wizard's fortress. The wizard (Urlen Sparlek) fled long ago (does not specify if he is still alive or not) after his plot to assassinate the King was discovered. This was actually the hook that really excited me about this adventure, and I'll get into that more below.

Anyway, onto the conversion. The hobgoblins are basically already ready made Darguul mercenaries. The are battle hardened after having fought for so many others and after having found the stronghold have decided to use it to establish themselves as warlords in their own rights. The are lead by a hobgoblin wizard. Here is the way I see it for Eberron:

A city goblinoid (Tzarrik) was tempted at some point to enrole at the University of Wyrnarn (IIRC they have specifically invited goblinoids to join) and spent at least the past several years studying there. During his studies the wizard comes upon an obscure reference to the abandoned fortress of one Urlen Sparlek. Still dissatisfied with his lot in life, Tzarrik leaves the university and travels to Darguun. There he finds allies that will help him excavate the ruins and take the fortress and its secrets. Perhaps his allies are just a rogue band of mercenaries, or perhaps he actually has the backing of the Lhesh himself.

Now, I just read a passage in RoE that told of King Jarot's increasing paranoia right before he died. This is the thing that sparked my interest in this adventure. Urlen Sparlek was actually plotting to assassinate King Jarot and his actions may have directly or indirectly lead to the start of the Last War! This is an excellent way to bring a little Eberron specific history into what is basically a hack and slash fest, and I love it.

Now, I've also been considering modifying this adventure slightly more by placing it in the Mournlands and replacing the hobgoblins with warforged minions of the LoB. This would take slightly more work, but might be well worth it.

Anyway, I may post more later about this, but would be very interested to hear what you folks think of this adventure (and the conversion ideas) so far.
