The cover looks great :) I had a feeling it'd be a reddish colour before I saw it, I don't know why.

Don't worry, it'll probably have an FR cover... :P

It looks really snazzy. Couldn't help but notice they're using a slightly different template, though.

Also, I'd really like to see KB's name on the front of it, but considering the book should be mostly crunch (as opposed to fluff; what Mr Baker is so fantastic in writing) I can understand why they put him on other tasks instead.

Well it is over at Amazon.com i think.....so i do think MoE is real but the cover may change, sure...as for now its looks great.. :DYeah, Amazon.com kept the fake cover for Races of Eberron up until after it had come out. Heck, Amazon.com STILL has the fake cover up as their mini-pic. Seriously, do a search for it, and see which cover you find.

After the RoE fiasco, I wouldn't trust that the cover image is correct until I'm holding it in my own two hands. I trusted WotC the last time, they led us along, and then changed it at the last minute. Trust is gone my friend, and its gonna take a LONG time to rebuild that they're not lying through their teeth to us again (a lie through ommission is still a lie you know).

On the other hand, I hope they'll change the fantistic cover for Fane of the Drow... And I'm sure its author, Gwen Ketsrel, hopes they do, too. :P (Seriously. They can't even afford to proofread covers, now.)

Given there's no "Magic of" line in the same way there's the "Races of" I think we'll probably get an Eberron cover for this one. (Unless they plan to bring out a new line all of a sudden.)

Mind, it might not be this one. They did have a different design for the Sharn book which they decided against.

Yes, because, as we all know, the only purpose of the old RoE cover was to deceive us.

They didn't commit adultery, they made a particularly common business decision.

Yes, because, as we all know, the only purpose of the old RoE cover was to deceive us. :rolleyes:You don't find it odd in the slightest that they made a dummy mockup for a cover, which they had no intentions on ever using, and distributed it to major retailers?

Or that they only really showed us the real cover after the books had been printed, and there was no chance of changing it?

It was either intentional, or it was so sloppy, someone should have been fired over it. I prefer the train of thought that it was done to keep people from complaining, which they did, until it was too late to do anything about it instead of Little Johnny in Graphical Design just tossed it together for the fun of it and just decided to send it out to the distributers. Who are STILL using it, btw.

How do you know they never intended to use it? Isn't it equally reasonable to suppose that they did intend to use it, and then changed their minds? They are allowed to do that, you know.

Or that they only really showed us the real cover after the books had been printed, and there was no chance of changing it?
WotC do not release cover art early in order to have it approved by us. They release cover art early because it generates interest in their products. Whether or not there was time for people to ask them to change it is irrelevant, as they were under no obligation to accede to such requests in any case.

Which is no fault of WotC's. Again, they are under no obligation - not the slightest - to stick to an early cover-art design just because they let their customers see it. If they decide they'd prefer to go with a different cover design - anything from a minor change to a major reworking - at any time, that's entirely their prerogative.

How do you know they never intended to use it?Because both Keith and I think it was Andy specifically said that the book had been intended as a generic line from the very start, and they never had any intention of using an Eberron cover.

So why pay for cover art they never intended to use, and then distribute that cover art to retailers?

You seem to assume they paid for that cover art... If you look at it closely, it's the same illo as the one they used in the real cover, with the Eberron "mask" applied.

I am sure they haven't paid any cent for just copy/pasting an image with a transparent hole on another image, and typing three words with MS Paint's Text tool... Even if there were more works than that behind the mock-up, it wasn't more than 5 minutes of work -- including 2 whole minutes for getting the damn graphic software to finish loading and initializing.

This thread is like total Deja'Vu (or how ever you spelled it). Didn't we have this exact same discussion 500 times already? :D

I can totally see how the 'fake' RoE cover ended up being there by simple human error and deadlines. They probably have all kinds of templates and masks for the various book lines and someone in a rush just slapped the Eberron template on the cover art instead of the Races template by mistake.

There's nothing to prove by arguing what cover was going where and why. All the agruments have been heard, and if Edy or anyone else was going to be convinced that it was innocent mistake that anyone, regardless of station, is susceptible to, they would have shut their mouths already and pretended they were never wrong by now.
Conversely, if Edy were to convince anyone that WOTC had tricked its audience into paying for a hideous book because the company is made of kitten-stomping, money-grubbing elder red wyrms, it would have happened during the february and march rant-off, not a month after the fact.
If anyone would like to discuss this, do it in a PM.

On the other hand, I find the book cover to be quite promising. I love red shading. It reminds me of a Dragonshard, and I'm also pleased to see that WOTC has decided to keep a few "iconic characters" for Eberron as well as core material. Perhaps Thondred will become something like a grumpy, self-absorbed Elminster (orders of magnitude less powerful, of course).

If that's real... Then it's one sexy-ass cover!

I don't think it's a mock-up. Just look at it. It isn't simply the cover art with the Eberron template. I mean, it is the Eberron template, but slightly altered. That means they actually put some effort into this one.
