| nakedpinkelf01-16-07, 01:02 AM | ok quick question may of been asked but i havent been to forums for a while the cull magic esscence feat (spelling may be off) seems kinda over powered or is that just me yes i did have a pc critical with one and roll well but even normally 10d6 is a lot of damage psions can augment and do a lot of damage as well but this is wand which is more expendable than power points am i calulating the damage right what would a magic missile (5th) do with this feat also an artificer at 6th level can use maximise buy spending three extra charges of the wand this start to get messy then?? thanks for any help had to check to make sure me the DM isn't reading it wrong and being gipped |
| MartM01-16-07, 01:14 AM | Magic Missile is a 1st lvl spell, then it create a ray of 1d6 dmg. "normally produced" are the key word for your maximize question. Artificier can't influence the dmg with any metamagic... (i cut this part, i was wrong there) Hope that help... |
| nakedpinkelf01-16-07, 04:58 PM | thanks for that the pc isn't gonna like but hell knows me the DM is lol |
| nakedpinkelf01-16-07, 05:03 PM | actually i does say normally produced but if the wand was a magic missile wand of 5th caster level does that mean it still only counts as a 1st level spell for the purposes of the feat as the normally produced spell is i guess a 1st level spell thats better because the caster level is different ...kinda answering the question myself here. So caster level has no effect on this feat basically?? |

| Marcus Majarra01-16-07, 06:12 PM | Cull Wand Essence creates a ray that deals damage according to the spell produced by the spell trigger item. For example, a wand of magic missile produces a ray that deals 1d6 points of damage. The caster level of the spell trigger item has no relevance as to the damage of the ray. A CL 20 wand of magic missile will produce the same kind of ray as a CL 1 wand of magic missile would. Furthermore, an artificer using his Metamagic Spell Trigger (obtained at level 7; see the Eberron Campaign Setting errata) can affect the ray produced by the wand, since Cull Wand Essence explicitly states that the ray is treated as a spell of the same level as the one produced by the spell trigger item. It's not entirely abusive, either. A wand that can deal 10d6 points of damage requires a 4th-level spell, which are usually sold at no less than 21000 gp. It's a bit expensive in order to use an ability that deals this kind of damage (especially when your wizard and sorcerer friends can already do so free of charge). Even with the Metamagic Spell Trigger, we're talking about only 60 points of damage with Maximize Spell, which hardly qualifies as an effective way to burn 4 charges. |

If you mean that you can increase the base dmg (1d6 for 1st lvl): I don't think so. Since it is stated that the dmg are based "on the level of the spell normally produced by the magic item." But a artificier with Meta. spell trigger, can maximise/empower/split/etc... the Ray produced by this feat. |
