| Charles Phipps07-28-05, 12:02 AM | I'm inspired by Final Fantasy VII and the Shin-Ra corporation for a game. Basically, my idea was based on the "magical power plants" from that game and it occurred to me they fit very well into the Eberron setting. I was thinking that the Eberron variant would be capable of creating Dragonshards by more or less harvesting the ambient magic of the planet. Simply because he's the closest match to Sephiroth, the Lord of Blades would be behind these machines. Of course, these being villains at work, there needs to be some consequences. Possibilities that occurred to me are... * Magic starts to fail all about Eberron thanks to these machines. * The Lord of Blades is producing far more dragonshards than he's letting to the public and these are going straight to his stockpile for the upcomming war with humanity. * The magical "suckage" is actually lowering the resistance between dimensional barriers. * An explosion of one of these reactors (or more) might result in a Day of Mourning style catastrophe (I may use the design as Cyre created and the lord merely found them). * It's actively damaging Eberron and may destroy it's ecosystem (based on magic) I'm not sure how sucessful these plants would be though in terms of economics and whether I shouldn't come up with something else that the plants produce by 'sucking' up the magic of the world. Any suggestions/thoughts? |

These magical power plants in a way seem like they would be all over the news in the world. Something this massive actually could even start a the war over. I don't know if the Lord of Blades would be behind the things, but it's your campaign. :-). Nice idea though. Makes me want to play FF7 lol. (Ponders the idea of Eberron Materia lol) |

While chaos would certainly benefit the Lord of Blades' plans (whenever ANYTHING evil or anarchic happens, the players tend to think of him) since he's the mastermind of all their woes, I don't want to distract the players from the greater campaign as a whole with what's meant to be a one-shot. |

My idea was that they'd be insanely successful at the start of things and put vast amounts of wealth in the LoB's pockets (My Lord of Blades doesn't just control warforged but has a very large terrorist organization that he basically is interested in using to overthrow the governments of Khovaire as part of his goal to create a warforged nation. He's sort of Magneto, if Magneto controlled HYDRA) If they don't discover it soon I'm going to probably introduce FFVII elements like an A.V.A.L.A.N.C.H.E equivalent that suspects the sinister purpose of the thing and also increasingly tight power afforded the Lord of Blade's 'front company' to protect these valuable assets. What his endgame is I'm not sure but probably would be to destroy magic and as a last resort, potentially destroy a nation (or if this technology is shared-all nations) with the machine's overload. I'm currently debating whether to complicate matters by having him allied with a "front" group here, possibly House Cannith who are unaware they're dealing with the LoB and instead think its' just eccentric but brilliant artificier. One of the Dragon Houses means he'd have definitely less freedom to operate his plans though. Ahhh the perils of Bond villainy. |

They are already all over the place on there home place(I dont have the book infront of me.) They also have started building them here on the main land. They have big security forces and stuff for them and have set up agreemants with the local gov. to make it legal. None of this will work if you dont want to run a Psi. heavy game but it is there. If you run Psi. as a version of magic than it might work... |

However, the whole absorbing of Dream Energy still works. You just need to be slightly more vague on why it benefits them personally. Great idea though. |

But, the LoB would not be behind this, especially if it's not set in the Mournland. Vol would more likely be. Perhpas this leads to how she is going to raise that Leviathan Edy thinks is the Terrasque. 5N said she wanted to bind it, what better way than a personalized dragonshard? |

Well, I do my games in "Seasons" and never does a game have a villain for more than a one shot if they're not the "big bad." In this case, the Lord of Blades is the Big Bad. He destroyed the crops of Breeland, assassinated King Boranel (in a fun little twist, he got better), arranged for terrorist attacks across Sharn, and was indirectly involved in the Day of Mourning. Right now he's just signed a deal with Erandis Vol for more or less the purpose of being her "Champion" in order to kill as many humans as possible. Largely, I just see the Lord of Blades as far more subtle than pretty much everyone but the Dreaming Dark. I don't really understand why he wouldn't be able to be behind it though. |
