| Bobfred2104-09-08, 07:04 PM | I was just curious what your Eberron is like in terms of dealing with major plotlines and enemies? How many of the major organizations in the world are your players likely to encounter, come up against, take down? How many of the major mysteries of the world are going to be dealt with in your game? I think I'm probably on the edge of dealing with too much at the same time, my players seem to enjoy it but I was curious how other people deal with the major organizations in Eberron. My PCs have just hit level 8 so far they've dealt with: The Dreaming Dark (the main enemies of this campaign) Morgrave University (at first the PCs benefactor, but due to the PCs actions they are now enemies of the university) The Aurum (Current Benefactors) The Emerald Claw and the Blood of Vol (Enemies, who want an artifact currently in the PCs possession) The Lord of Blades (The PCs arn't sure where they stand with him, a side-plot is going on with him and the parties warforged, could become an enemy or a minor ally if the warforged plays his cards right) House Orien (The parties Changeling works for house Orien, it hasn't played a big role yet) House Cannith (The PCs are about to make enemies of House Cannith because it is in possession of an artifact they need) The Chamber (The PCs don't know it yet, but the Chamber has been involved in their quest from the beginning) So in other words: Of the major plotlines presented in the campaign setting the game so far deals with a Dal'Quor invasion, the emerald claw and a potential return of the Mark of Death (and in turn a second great war), the Warforged problem and the Lord of Blades forming a Warforged nation and the draconic prophecies. Depending on how long the game continues the story will also bring in the Daelkyr and an invasion from Xoriat. Do your games tend to deal in as many of Eberrons major plotpoints? What do you think of tieing everything so closely together? What kind of storylines have you used to tie all of the plotlines together? |
| skrap-san04-10-08, 02:38 AM | I'm running 3 campaigns simultaneously, two on a regular basis and one in vacations for when my friends return home from far away education. Campaign 1: I'm following the forge of war/shadows of the last war/whisper of the vampires blade setting. So The Emerald claw, House Cannith, Lord of blades, and The dark lanterns are the most heavy used so far. But I'm going homebrew soon and are going to include house Lyrandar to the mix. Campaign 2: Is with a bunch of noobs so it started out small. But I'm going to focus on whisper rock and woods. And spice things up with the Aurunm (spelling) and a cult of the dragon bellow and the eyes of Aundair. Campaign 3: Cult of the dragon bellow, the authorities of NewThrone, Eyes of Aundair, Aurunm, House Orien (a dragon marked PC) and Arcanix university. |
| CannibalSmith04-10-08, 11:34 AM | In a campaign I currently play in: Sora Kell (neutral, dispensed some prophecies) Gatekeepers (my character is their leader) Wardens (allies, are fighting Aundair) Silver Flame (the party contains two Thranish zealots, one of them is the avatar of the couatl or something) Daelkyr (enemies, Lords of Dust are busting them out of their prisons, one of them razed Delethorn and was subsequently killed in a cinematic battle) Cannith West (enemies, puppets of Aundair) Aundair (enemies, puppets of Lords of Dust, Aurala has enlisted the help of LoD and is trying to conquer Khorvaire beginning with Eldeen) Lords of Dust (the bad guys behind all of this) Cannith South (allies, the party contains a dragonmarked guy) Darguun (allies, is under attack by daelkyr and Valenaar elves, 50% population and 70% territory lost already) |
| DarkangelUziel04-16-08, 02:27 PM | I think Eberron makes it easy to use all kinds of evil in your campaign. I also have a LOT of things going on in my campaign. However the players don't need to know everything ... yet :P I'm following Forgotten Forge as well, but tied in some adventures of my own, which will make a red line throughout the game. So far they're dealing with: Sora Teraza (manipulatively gave some prophecies); Emerald Claw (Forgotten Forge and other adventures); The Chamber (one of the dragons was a tutor of one PC and is trying to fulfill a prophecy concerning the PC's) I will be running Eyes of the Lich Queen soon, so that involves Vol Lords of Dust are tearing up House Cannith Lords of Dust are also following same prophecy as the chamber since it concerns a possible Daelkyr invasion (if the PC's reach the right level) New Cyre is forcing an independand state King Boranel will be assassinated throwing Breland into civil war Droaam is forcing itself into the treaty of Thronehold Cannith South is getting a Forge in Stormreach Quori take over House Deneith (one of PC's has Mark of Sentinel) I also have a preplanned adventure which I will most likely give which includes Aundair, Vol, Sisters of Sora Kell, King Boranel, Dark Lanterns, The Chamber, The Lords of Dus, The Tyrants, House Kundarak and House Cannith all in one. Still kinda finetuning that one though. I think most Eberron Campaigns have loads of these plots, since the game is really suitable for tha ttype of gameplay. In the end it doesn't ahve to be as complicated for the PC's as it is in reality. They won't know everything. It's harder for the DM to keep it all clear. Ohh. b.t.w. my characters are barely level 5 and they are with 5 characters. |
| Durskut04-16-08, 09:42 PM | my current game is a rather small scale because i have mostly eberron no0bs. at this point i am playing the "Quori knocking on the door" idea. the Inspired offered thier aid to the Kelch Volaar (dirge singer dakaani clan) in subduing the other clans, and i had the PCs basically stumble onto them. I've managed to work in the chamber (though admittedly not very well), Darguun, House Tharashk, House Philarn, and House Thurrani. most of these are character specific relations because my "group" insists on acting as 4 individuals.... -.- previous games i've run did the "forgotten forge + renewed mark of death" and "Philarn & thuranni shadow war + (pcs never got to know the blood of vol was behind it)" thing. in a more direct answer to the OP: i try to have 1 organization on the pcs side and 1 not per PC. for me the fun part is tying these elements together in unexpected ways. for example the pcs ending up in a Quori stronghold at the end of chasing down a tharashk prospector. i have never really had a group interested in the larger mysteries of the world, however my current PCs are unknowingly wiping out a group of Kalashtar and intend on taking them into the wide world of how evil the Quori are. |
| quill1804-17-08, 10:50 AM | Forces currently at play in my game: - The Dreaming Dark (heavy duty and on MANY levels) - The Dark Lanterns (current patron and ally) - House Cannith (ally-turned-enemy) - The social landscape of Sharn (a PR tug-of-war to ruin (Cannith) or improve (Dark Lanterns) the PC's reputation for a greater purpose) - The Children of Khyber (aberrant dragonmarks) - House Tharashk (via a romantic relationship between a PC and a high-ranking member) - The Kalashtar (as an ally to a Kalashtar player but also in a variety of plot-critical ways) - Diplomatic forces threatening to re-ignite the Last War - Xoriat aberrations (important in this adventure, less of a factor in the campaign) These are ALL active in the current adventure. In fact, there's so much going on that only 48 hours have passed in the last SIX sessions. From the PC's point of view, they have a main quest, but they keep getting delayed by various side-quests. They tend to have numerous side-quests at once, actually, and picking which to do and which to ditch is having so SIGNIFICANT consequences. Furthermore, the more of these side-quests they do, the more they start to realize that everything is tied in together somehow. The most ominous thing was that, at the end of the last session, the new Riedran Embassy in Sharn came out in strong support of the players after (some stuff happened). And if there's one thing that's a sure mind-screw, it's having the Dreaming Dark on your side... The Riedrans actually gave the players some VERY generous rewards. Which is just making the players more nervous. |
| Sithraldor04-18-08, 03:29 PM | The PC all from Cyre. Are trying to restore the mournlands they are 10th level at the moment. They are allies with the LoBs, Morgrave, Cannith South (2 PC have Mark of Making). South is there primary beneifactor they have recovery a great deal the Hearth forgehold in the Mournlands. Started with Forgotten Forge which they turned over to Merrix & became instant buds. One of the PC is has amnesia(sp?) from the Day of Mourning he was on his way back to Eston to the House Cannith Enclave when he got caught in the mourning. He is the Son of the Patriach of Cannith. He is going to find out next session. Merrix tells him & turns on the PCs. He wants the power & is going to make a push to unite the house. That is so far. |
| smacintush04-20-08, 04:45 AM | My current campaign is a mish-mash of stuff I've read here, in a novel and in the sourcebooks. This is what I have so far: While at a tavern called Redblade’s in Deathsgate, Dimara (elven duskblade ), Lia (elven monk), and Steph (shifter ranger) along with Clout, Erigar, Thol and Dagg were hired by Erolo d’Tharashk (Half-Orc Expert 5/Dragonmark Heir 1) to accompany Zeel (NE changeling Warlock 5) to Xen’Drik on order to find and map the location of the “Lost City of Gold.” At least that is what they were told. Zeel is a henchman of a powerful Illithid who is after a giant, 6’ long Dragonshard that is rumored to be in the Lost City. Suspecting that they may encounter undead in The City, Zeel suggested the hiring of a priest. (Clout) However, what Zeel didn’t like was that Erolo hired the PC’s for additional aid in the venture. She felt that they weren’t needed and would get in the way of her plans. Erigar and the brothers Thol and Dagg work for Zeel. Erigar is actually Korgan d’ Tharashk, the younger brother of Erolo and he bears the least Mark of Finding. He and his companions accompanied this expedition in secret. Erigar hopes that by aligning himself with Zeel and his master he might gain some advantage that might lead him to a position of power in his house. Zeel, being frustrated, evil and quite mad decided she would sabotage the mission by destroying the airship and hopefully killing it’s passengers. Secretly, she gave his Erigar and Co. and Clout Feather Tokens “just in case” so that they would survive the crash. Finding their way to The Lost City, Zeel found the Dragonshard and he along with the rest of the group attacked and thought they had killed Clout. With clout out of the way, Erigar and his men were ordered to wait for a few days to take care of any unexpected problems that might arise. (like survivors showing up!) Zeel, being the cunning prick that he is, reports back to Erolo that the airship crash killed everyone on board (remember that Erigar going along was a secret) and the mission was a total failure. Erolo, being totally fooled by Zeel’s deceptions, as well as being a little frightened of her, buys every bit of it. What will happen is they will soon be attacked by Erigar/Korgan and his men. They will likely (hopefully) kill him and find his identification papers on his body letting them know that they have just slain a dragonmarked member of the house that they were hired by. I don't quite yet know where this will lead. I practice what I call "planned ad-libbing" so I don't reall know yet what their purpose for the giant dragonshard is, or if the evil mastermind is gonna actually be an Illithid or someone else. I wanted a powerful psionic in any case. The name "Zeel" is an interim name right now as I have changed this character about 3 time now. Currently she is a changeling who poses as an elf woman. She is missing here right eye and has put a deep, almost purple star ruby in it's place in the empty socket and in her elf form she includes a nasty burn-like scar below and around her eye socket. Also, since I have only 3 (fairly weak) players and I really like to create characters, I included Clout, who is a Warforged Cleric of the Becoming God. His purpose is to help out a little in the healing department, allow me to RP as a party member a little bit and since the players don't know Eberron that well yet to give me a way to RP info about the setting. (for example, letting the PC's know that mentioning that they killed the brother of a dragonmarked heir of House Tharashk is probably a BAD idea until they can investigate what it going on first and provide proof…or at least some evidence…of his involvement) I don't know if this is a good idea yet but I'll soon find out! |
| andrewknaut04-21-08, 04:23 PM | I'm DMing a game that is set 100 years after the campaing is writen. Droaam was the groups home untill recently when the Cleric Hag (forgot her name) had a vission of a shadow across Droaam. They went to find out what it was. The Gnomes of House Sivis have taken over Zilargo and alined themselves with Vol who has taken Karneth and killed King Kious. The shadow is the Gnomes dug in the mountains and found a Devil who was bound by magic, he told them to get him out and he would help them. They did and now the Devils and Gnomes are trying to take over the world, and the Devils want to destroy the Demon Waste (the idea of the Demons and Devils at war) and Droaam is in the way. So far thats were they got to, but they are also against the Dreaming Dark which are setting up Monoliths in a new empty Tallitai Plains. The Lord Of Blades is also alinged with Vol and giving aid with his warforged, and Carneth North took over the house with Vol and was turned into a litch but it failed and now he takes the essince of people to survive and lives in a shell like Warforged himself. Sorry about the spelling :P |
| dsivis04-28-08, 01:43 AM | The Daask is stealing alchemical drug cocktails from Cannith South and forming massive suicide cults around their use. |
| Edymnion04-28-08, 12:56 PM | I'm not running any games at the moment (kicking back and relaxing by playing in a couple though). But, I do have mega campaign that I'm constantly keeping on a low simmer in the back of my head, adding things to it as I go. Currently, it involves a fairly low level dip into the Mournlands, some Xen'Drik time, and a showdown with Argonessa and the draconic council itself. |
| Shiftkitty04-28-08, 03:59 PM | We're almost entirely on Xen'drik with a drow-based campaign. We've taken some time off from it to hit "War of the Burning Sky", a third-party product that will most likely be my 4e launchpad since the campaign just ended. (We didn't do the modules, I just borrowed the world and winged it.) As we wait for 4e to come out, we should be able to get back to the mysterious ruby that everybody and his extra-planar brother seems to want to lay their hands on. Because it's a Xen'drik game, the PCs have very little to do with the formal organizations from the ECS, but they've had their share of run-ins with agents from various places, and, most recently, the Umbragen. That was where we took a break to fight the War of the Burning Sky. Maybe next week it's back to Eberron! |
| Elrodian04-28-08, 04:42 PM | I am createing a campaign with the group (not fully together) hunting down the Talons of Ice who attack the main PC but leaves her they soon find out that she is has a close relation to Vol and now they want to her and soon i think i will make them come to battle with Vol |
| Rauric04-28-08, 06:24 PM | Pcs are at level 10 and a hodgpodge of races. We have a kobold, imp, goblin, minotaur and Valenar elf. Though they are outsiders they have done much in Breland and Sharn. -Saved some rich people and a few nobles from a "Railjacking". Made allies with House Orien since they saved "most" of the rail. -Made allies with House Lyrander. -Have a patron at the Morgrave U. -Made enemies with a few of the 60 of Sharn as well as some of the City Council. -Made enemies of Daask. -Made enemies of the Cult of Tiamat. All their rep in Sharn is about to collapse since the imp did not wish to hand over a page from "The Book of Khyber" they found. The Rakshasha (in disguise) who wanted it has framed one of them for the murder of the Mayor of New Cyre and since they broke some people out of jail there so they could fight a floating citadal of the Cult they don't look so good to the public. They are gonna have to leave the continent I think. |
| Rageofthemodrons10104-29-08, 10:20 PM | I'm preparing a campaign that involves Shifter Samurai working for Riedra and the Dreaming Dark. I like the plots in Secrets of Sarlona. |
| Rania04-30-08, 12:57 PM | ...(at first the PC's benefactor, but due to the PCs actions they are now enemies....)That pretty much sounds like how my group treated EVERYTHING. |
| green_yawgmoth04-30-08, 04:53 PM | Currently, there's the whole Temple of Elemental Evil plotline, altered to make sense with Eberron (cult of the dragon below trying to bring Xoriat coterminous again). There's also another half-dragon lich, much older than Erandis, who is trying to pull the strings of the five nations into another war, so that he can come through once they've all but devastated themselves with an army of undead akin to the persian army in 300. Depending on how the PCs act and who they trust, they could unwittingly (or purposely) cause the end of the vast majority of life on Khorvaire! |
