| Uratoh01-04-06, 12:00 PM | I'm making up a khyber cavern in the Mournlands for my party to deal with...they need to clear it out for some allies who have essentially claim to it... I like the lava flows bridges etc idea, and I wanna go with a colony of Grell as the main inhabitents...my debates are how much being in the Mournlands affects the overall cr of a dungeon due to the healing factor...the party's lv 8-9, so even up to a Grell Patriarch is fine under normal circumstances, I just dont wanna have em bite off more than they can chew (barring stupidity). |

Well... to be honest, I don't think that being in the Mournlands will have any significant effect on the EL of any single combat. If the players go into the combat fresh, the combat should be about as difficult as the EL assigned to it. However, once you start adding additional combats you risk some danger. Since the PC's can't heal (normally or magically) without special considerations, if they enter a combat with an EL equal to their level, but at half HP, it might just kill them. If you plan on having a cinematic major encounter in the Mournlands it should happen when the party is fresh, or you should provide them some way to "freshen up" before it happens (a party of their level should have access to Rope Trick or some other means of opening a rift to extradimensional space to heal up). Unless, of course, you don't mind killing a character or two in the process. |
