Making an Eberron Movie [Archive] - Wizards Community

This is definetely a spin-off version of the "Casting an Eberron Cartoon" thread, except we're going to apply the rules to a live-action movie. God forbid we mention the two already existing (although I did like 'Wrath of the Dragon God'). Similar rules apply here:

--General plotline of the movie

--Characters and Cast

--Gun for whatever rating you want, up to R. Lord knows there wasn't enough blood in the second movie where it counted (honestly, when a sharp blade strikes someone, they bleed folks!).

I suppose my best idea would be to make a movie based on going to Xen'drik and going to a legendary location like Mel-Aqat, almost similar to "In the Claws of the Tiger".

My characters would probably be as follows:
A cynical Karrnathi who fought in the Last War, played by Bruce Willis (oh yes, that's right, another Bruce Willis movie)
A jaded Cleric of the Silver Flame, regretting his previous involvement in an inquisition that was more of a slaughter, played by Alan Rickman
A clever Sharn-dwelling rogue who formerly walked the streets of the Firelight district, played by Rosario Dawson
And your not-so-average Warforged scout, voiced by Patrick Warburton

Well, the cartoon thread was my idea, so I'll give a movie a stab. The theme has to be really different, can't build characters the same in a movie as a TV series. Also, well, everything just has to be bigger! So I'm thinking something like this:

Several old solders from the Last War are called together for one last mission. But it's not any one troop, it's some of the most legendary solders form every nation in Khorvaire. The king has learned of plan by the Blood of Vol/Emerald Claw to awaken the Tarrasque, a threat that could destroy every nation. The King trusts only these few solders and sends them off in his country’s best airship to stop them.

Director – Peter Jackson

Set up people:
King Borumel - Sean Connery

The heroes:
Warforged Fighter from Karrnath – Kevin Grevioux (The voice is great, and he could even look the part)
Elf Wizard from Aundair – Jessica Biel (Not 100%, her body I think more action then spells)
Human Rogue from Breland – Christian Bale (Great I think, Dark Lantern agent)
Half-Elf Bard from Crye – Mandy Moore (She can actually SING, good call)
Gnome Cleric from Thrane – Tobey Maguire (Again, not 100%, kind of want this to be the comic relief, can’t think of a good person for this part)

The Villains:
Human Bonekight of Vol - Bruce Willis (Great old villain part, seen years of war)
Vol herself - Rose McGowan (Voice mainly, maybe bring some sexiness to a 2,000 year-old Half Dragon dead girl, is that wrong?)

I could set up more of the cast, but I just don’t have the time right now. I can see this as a great movie, maybe have a true dragon on Vol’s side and make them fight it? Lots more I can work on. Please, tell me all what you think!

I think I would like an action-comedy best, a small group of friends (all House members in good standing) kind of "Pirates of the Carribean"-ish.

House Tharashk Half-orc Scout/Dragonmark Heir: Ron Perlman

House Lyrandar Bard/Windwright Captain: Karl Urban

House Sivis Rogue/Heir of Syberis: Steve Buscemi

House Jorasco Ranger/Dragonmark Heir: Ewan MacGregor

House Cannith Artificer/Alchemist Savant: Hugh Jackman

Probably have Christian Bale play King Kaius, maybe Sharon Stone could be the Queen of Aundair (don't remember her name).

Steve Buscemi's definetely a good choice for an action/comedy, as he was great in Airheads (and other movies that I'm sure he's in, but not completely sure of). While I did have Bruce Willis as a hero, he also works equally well in a villian's role, especially in the Eberron-type, as evidenced by his incredibly unsettling performance in The Jackal.

Ron Perlman... I know that name, I just can't remember any movies he was in. Would anybody be able to shed some light on that?

Plot: Thrane Werewolf Hunter and companions investigates rumors that there is a new werewolf threat in the city of Passage. As they continue their investigation deeper, they find that buried under the city is a vast catacomb that houses the shard of a demon. What is worse, is that the threat they find out is not a werecreature, but one of the deadly black Rakasha assassians, who has cleverly been setting up a ritual to free the entrapped demon. The climax happens mid-city, where the hunters are stopping the last murder that would free the Demon, amidist a fight with hell hounds and the assassian itself.

Director: Stephen Sommers

Characters:
Werewolf Hunter : James Purefoy (Knight's Tale)
Mystic Theurge Companion : Laura Frashier (Knight's Tale)
Rogue: Tim Stern (D&D 2)

The Assassian: Arnald Vosloo (The Mummy Returns)
Saved Important Person: Bruce Greenwood (Thirteen Days)

And the modelmakers and the special effects crew from the Lord of the Rings films.

you gotta have Clive Owen in there somewhere

I'd have to have mine be some sort of murder/semi-mystery type, with the main character being a Zil gnome journalist, rogue or wizard maybe. The inquisitive would prolly be a Denieth Fighter with a sentinel mark, and his 'side kick' would have to be a warforged. Throw in a changeling artificer who makes the gear for him and you have a very interesting crew. The bad guy would have to be a razorclaw shifter ranger who hates humans.

Cast-
Reserved () - Zilargo Rogue/Wizard
Sean Connery (The Rock) - Denieth Inquisitive
Samuel L Jackson (Star Wars) - Warforged Fighter
Kate Beckingsale (Van Helsing) - Changeling Artificer
Tyler Mane (X-men) - Shifter Barbarian

Rating: R. Blood, violence, and usage of the guy who played Sabretooth in yet another feral role.

You need Tim Curry in the cast of villainry.

Except he needs to turn out to be a good guy in the end (or at least almost a good guy). Otherwise it wouldn't be properly Eberron.

But Tim Curry is definitely seconded.

I just can't picture him in any other role than his cheesy Home Alone 2 one. I just can't see that actor in evil (despite he rocky horror show).

In the wake of the Last War, with so many great soldiers killed, the Rekkenmark Academy has been forced to take in some more unusual students.

Heh, wow. I guess I'm old. I'd honestly just find a cast of unknowns.

yeah, so would I (probly) but where's the fun in that? This thread is about which RL actors could be awesome at being which Eberron characters.

Well, I can think of a few that'd really rock.

Cary Elwes as a grizzled Windwright Captain, for instance.
Kate Beckinsale as a Brelan Dark Lantern (I mean, pfft, she's done the role a hundred times).
Michael Clarke Duncan as a Dragonmarked Heir of House Tharashk (half-orc or human is immaterial, he's a good actor).
Jeremy Irons as a cunning artificer from The Twelve.
Leonardo DiCaprio as a Dragonmarked Heir of House Jorasco.

But like I said...older with different tastes. ;)

Can we fit Morgan Freeman in somewhere? I know we've seen him play the role a hundred times before, but Morgan Freeman as an inquisitive would rock.

I second that most definetely. I'd also put Sidney Poitier as an inquistive too. He was the roxorz in The Jackal. A fun one would be Samuel L. Jackson as Neville Flynt in Yuan-ti on an Elemental Galleon. Sure, the title sucks, but hey, it'll make MILLIONS!!!

I'll hit you with some quotes:
War, war never changes...
*While fighting monster* Second date, no tongue!
*Infront of car* Red means stop!
*As pedo merc.* Hello birthdaygirl...
