| Plane Sailing06-08-04, 12:00 PM | I was just re-reading the preview on the wizards.com site about Organisations in Eberron, and a couple of elements caught my eye which made me wonder about the extent to which this information has changed since it was put on the website e.g. A second deadly rival is the Order of the Emerald Claw. The church militant will take any opportunity to strike down these necromancers and their vile creations -- a situation that may exacerbate tensions between Thrane and Karrn'ath, where the Order has been gaining support. which seems to identify the OotEC as necromancers, while posts in the "i have it" thread seem to suggest they are knights/terrorists. Also, the exorcist of the silver flame prestige class has as prereqs QUOTE]Alignment: Any good. Base Attack Bonus: +3. Skills: Knowledge (the planes) 3 ranks, Knowledge (religion) 8 ranks. Spells: Able to cast 1st-level divine spells.[/QUOTE] and then text which says "From 2nd level on, when a new exorcist of the Silver Flame level is gained, the character gains new spells per day as if she had also gained a cleric or paladin level." Curious why rangers are not included in this text since they could qualify with their divine magic? basically just a bit curious |
| ieattrollsforbreakfast06-08-04, 12:37 PM | I dont have the book but I'll try and answer some of the questions anyway :) On the OotEC, I think that probably the leaders will be the necromancers, where as the henchmen and grunts in the organisation will be the terrorists that run around causing trouble. There will probably be much more focus in the CSB on the grunts because it is those that the PCs will be most likely to fight. Just a guess mind you ;) On the Exorcist prerequisites, I think that the division is made between clerics (and paladins) and druids (and rangers) is there because in Eberron there is a very big difference between these two sources of divine magic. Rangers and druids in Eberron do not rever deities and have no connection with deities at all, and so do not channel deific magic but divine magic from nature. I'm sure the Church wont accept those wild, barbaric rangers from the Eldeen Reeches or Talenta Plains unless they can show they have some real connection to the Silver Flame, not just a belief second to a love of nature. |

Historically, they were an order of knights in Karrnath. Presently, they are regarded as a small group of Karrnathi nationalist extremists. However, even that image is a front for the activities of a nefarious organization whose influences extend far deeper than even the most informed people in Khorvaire would imagine. Necromancy plays a significant role within that organization, and the "Emerald Claw" itself may be a reference to the mixed heritage of the group's undead leader... |

Of course, I could see it working another way: a druid or ranger taking this class would begin advancing as a cleric or paladin. Hmmmm.... any thoughts? |

I suspect it is because rangers will have a hard time entering the class. Without multiclassing (Pal, Clr, Brd or Wiz), they can only get 8 ranks in Knowledge (religion) at 13th level. |
| N'wah06-08-04, 02:53 PM | All the same, nearly any class with a divine spellcasting requirement (or arcane, etc.) that allows further progression allows you to progress in any divine spellcasting class if you already have levels of it. They don't often limit your choice, so there must be a reason. After all, druids could still meet the skill requirements; they just don't get as much benefit without a level of cleric or paladin. |

Although only one level in any of those classes would allow them to attain the requisite ranks by 5th level (e.g. Bard1/Rgr4 or Pal1/Rgr4). Even with no multiclassing they could conceivably be a ranger 13/exorcist7 which wouldn't be bad at all. Cheers |
