Map Info from Customer Service [Archive] - Wizards Community

"There is no map of Khorvaire with national boundaries. In a setting that includes a lightning rail I expected a map that shows the railroads. Each nation has a detailed map but Im having trouble lining up the borders I think there are errors in these maps. I was told there would be a large map in Dungeon 113, but it turns out that this is the same map on your website with no national boundaries, cities or rail lines. If you want continued support of your Eberron line a web enhancement with a proper map would go a long way."

Got this reply:

"There is no map that includes national boundaries because Khorvaire has no national boundaries. Even though the war is over, the boundaries are fluid, and subject to change at the will of the DM (and future Eberron products). Also, Khorvaire is the only continent that is divided, so the others require no such maps. Your idea for a map including cities, railroads/airways, ect. is an excellent one, and was met with positive response by the R&D folks I mentioned it to. I cannot say for sure what will come of it, but you have been heard."

Shortly followed by:

"After I hit send, I was reminded that the Lightning rail routes are included on the regional maps (like on page 177), as a red dotted line. Not all regions have lightning rail. "

I responded back:

"The main issue I have with the lightning rail routes in the regional maps is that if you're going to use the lightning rail you're probably traveling across several nations. It would be nice to see a map of the entire continent.

Also, there should be some type of boundaries from the Treaty of Thronehold. If anything, a continental map showing the areas divided as they're presented in the regional maps. "

Final response:

"Those are both good points, which I have passed on to the D&D team. The response was a positive one.

Thanks!"

They were very prompt in their responses and I'm glad to hear something positive come from this. Now I'll just wait to see what happens...

Names of rivers/other bodies of water, etc. would be nice.

"There is no map that includes national boundaries because Khorvaire has no national boundaries.

It's intruiging that the Treaty of Thronehold, which ended the Last War and recognized the current nations of Khorvaire did not actually identify any borders for each of those nations. I guess Khorvaire is lucky that there are no aggressive nations remaining that would think of using this lack of national borders as an excuse to take the lands and resources of its neighbors.

It's a good thing Takasi brought up the "excellent" idea of having a map showing actual cities and railways, and I'm excited that they felt so positive about it. But it does leave me wondering how the R&D department missed such an bloody obvious part of a campaign setting to begin with.

Basically Cust Serv. nodded their head and said the maps are the way they are because that's the way they were printed, and there is nothing new on the horizon to change that. So deal with it.

I guess the lackluster maps will remain as one of the biggest disappointments to what otherwise is a very good product.

Well, this is as far as I know only a surry excuse. As far as I know the boundaries are very well pinned down in the treaty and I even remember Keith telling us, that such a map really is something that was missed out.

07-02-04, 12:05 AM I am happy to see that WoTC is at least acknolwledging this lack. However, this needs to be addressed soon. A clean map given in due time would go a long way for me. It would send the message 'We hear you guy's and we are going to do something about it to make sure you LOVE Eberron (And keep the money coming in!)!'.

Well, all we have to do now is wait! Thanks a lot Takasi!!!

Or even worse DM's might have to make something up :P

Being creative is great, it's what this game is about for me; an exercise in creativity. My only problem is reading the name of a particular river(or any other geographical figure) in the book, and then that name not appearing on the maps. It's kind of silly to even mention the name in the text if it isn't going to be properly labeled somewhere on the adjacent map...

I believe customer service is incorrect. The book flatly describes the boundaries in the text. Most of the borders are geographical features, such as a mountain range, river, edge of the plains, etc.

And as if there was any confusion in the text, the minimaps clearly suggest some type of commonly accepted regional zones. You can see each region in full color while outside it's boundaries each minimap becomes grey!! Did customer service not notice that?

I think all we were asking for was a single map that reflected a compilation of the regions suggested by the minimap colors.

07-02-04, 08:23 AM For me, this Customer Service response is a BIG disappointment. There are no recognized national borders? What the heck? What is an international treaty like the Thronehold Concord about? Recognizing nations without granting them solid territorial rights? I don't believe it.

And Traveling Papers? The setting explicitly mentions the need of traveling papers for officially crossing established national borders. Imagine this: "We don't need any traveling papers - we firmly believe to be still in Aundair!" "Do you believe? My sword will teach you that you are already in Breland! So show me those papers!"

Dear Wizards, PLEASE go about Eberron more seriously! Don't waste the opportunity to establish this setting!

(Oh dear, how I like political correctness! You are not even allowed to use strong words in quotes of fictional characters! Thanks to the Ministry for Appropriate Speech.)

Either customer service hasn't read the book and is just feeding us a line to keep us from complaining too loud ... or they are right, and we are all sharing the same hallucination when we read about the treaty, the war and the nations of Eberron. For some reason I thinks its the first option.

The part that really makes me laugh is their comment that Takasi's suggestion about actually putting out a detailed map was met with appraval and thought to be an excellent one. If it takes a player to suggest to the R&D department that they do something useful like a detailed map ... who the heck is working in that department and HOW did they get that job? :rolleyes:
