So how do the houses which bear it keep their shadowy abilities a secret? Surely someone would suspect. "What's that mark on your arm?" "Oh, it's the Mark of shadow. It gives me powers of deception and control of the shadows." "Cool. So what do you do with it?" "I entertain at children's birthday parties!" "..." "..." "... Sounds fun." |

"And I can do this." *proceeds to do the classic party trick of, removing ones thumb, complete with making creepy noises while doing so*. "I think I need to go." |

Secondly, I'll wager they are disguised often by those who don't want it known they have a Dragonmark (after all, people can fake them, why not hide them). Finally, I wouldn't be suprised if it's a "fad" in some areas to have tattoos or temporary marks that look like Dragonmarks (not necessarily specific ones). With all the abberant marks, etc., I doubt there are too many areas where it would be illegal to have such marking without it being an actual Dragonmark. |

| Bluebrush07-30-04, 06:08 AM | To restate my point, it's more a question of how the houses as a whole hides the fact they have the a dragonmark useful for spying. Seeing as they are dragonmarked houses and all. It'd be like having a gymnast or other professionally fit person who regularly has balaclavas, crowbars and sacks with dollar signs on them delivered to their house. Someone might think to link it to the wave of high profile burglaries across the city. If your whole house is supposedly full of bards who have a mark which enhances espionage abilities, people are going to think twice about inviting them to entertain at the twenty third annual secure records archive ball. |
