Well, I picked up Marked For Death this week, and I'm really enjoying it. But there's one thing that confused me, and I'm wondering what others thought of it...

Characters were using healing magic in the Mournland! And it seemed to be working!

Now, I'm not finished with the book yet, so there might be a twist somewhere, but I found it odd. I'm wondering, if there is no twist, what Keith thinks, and if this is perhaps an oversight on the author's part. Of course, the opinions of the forum-goers are quite welcome, and encouraged!

For some silly reason, the powers that be don't allow discussions on novels. There's a sticky thread at the top of the forum that talks about it.

You can talk to the authors of Eberron over at worlds of D&D Forums, Keith is over there as well

Um, don't start thread about novels! Hello!

There is a difference between starting the "I liked City of Towers" type threads and "What level is Pierce" threads. This is one of the latter (or at least I think it is).

Basically the reason that healing seems to work is because the paladins are using Lay on Hands. It isn't of the Healing subschool so it gets to work at half strength.

Novel aside(as I haven't read it and even if I did avoid direct comment on it I would) the healing in the Mournland is actually fairly straight forward as to what you can and cannot use. The confusion my be on the many "house rules" that are being used by many Eberron players on the boards here. From my what I understand by RAW and revision the only prevented healing measures are "Natural Healing"(the HP you get back for 8 hours of rest) and the Healing sub-school of spells. All other methods of healing are open. It can be concluded that fast-healing and regeneration are not "Natural Healing" and are also allowable methods. However those are still border line.

Be careful you don't get your house rules crossed with your RAW. And yes Lay on Hands has always been allowed. Not having access to the Cure spells is still a major pain, all of those nice potions rendered useless.

Hmmmm, didn't know talking about novels was not allowed... thanks for the polite responses. ^_^ I'll use my eyes next time!

Odd... Lay on Hands works? How fickle a mistress Lady RAW can be!

Well, seeing as how this topic is a no-no, I'll curb further discussion by lighting it on fire. :mage: *FWOOSH*

There's been several threads related to healing in the Mournlands with respect to the first published Eberron adventure, "Shadows of the Last War". I think the general consensus is that the adventure was written before the "no healing" rule - else it's too difficult for a low level party. The novel in question may have also been mostly written before this rule as well. This is unfortunate, because now people are going to drive themselves nuts trying to resolve this with the "offical rules".

I apologize for my impolite response, Chaotix42. I will use better tact in the future. I just didn't want you to face the ire of the WizO's.

Yeah, after several people pointed out that talking about novels is a no-no, I went back and focused my eyes through all of the sitckied posts, and then I "D'oh!"-ed to myself. ^_^;;
