| Dundar the Bard01-15-05, 10:06 PM | 1. In my campaign my characters have just been sent to xen'drik by the chamber because the ring of Syberis has been blacked out from the sky. The chamber called on any travelers of the lesser races to board a ship. My party however thought that they were going to Argonessen but instead were sent to xen'drik because the chamber plans on attacking khovaire and taking it for there own while all the adventures are killed by the necromancer Vols undead army which has risen on xen'drik and now controls 85% of the continent. Just looking for any imput or chritisism on this basic plot stuff. 2. Also one of my characters is playing a shifter who survived cyre and forgets his past he remembers a few things like training in an army before the last war which makes no sense but I am just wonderin if you have any cool input on what I could do with his character. He has aThelinta tangat and a Mask from the plans. He remembers riding dinosaurs in the plains. O and my character is playing a halfling. Thanks |

But why not ? :D Honestly, I didn't know either Vol or the Chamber were powerful enough to take on a whole continent each. Even without the adventurers, there are many farmers with pitchforks in Khorvaire, who should be enough to beat the dragons. Ok, maybe not the farmers, but the different armies, wizards, churches, monsters, and dragonmarked people should be tough to bring down, even by dragons. In Xen'Drick, there are also the giants and the drow (and the jungle itself !), who would cause problems to the undead. Another matter is the role of the Elves in all that. What would they do ? Besides, why would the dragons want to seize Khorvaire ? Why would Vol attack Xen'Drick ? Other than that, well, I wonder what the PCs could do to fight off all these threats... Are they really high-level ? Now, I didn't understand what you said about your characters. Are you a PC or a Dungeon Master ? |

Maybe even the Aerinals will help, since they have fought the dragons in the past. And why does the other dragons of argonessen allow this? |

It might even force some of their agents to reveal themselves as dragons as they 'turn' all their sources. Some basic problems with your plot: 1. The lich Vol and the Dragons of the Chamber are both organizations that have been around for centuries and worked through agents only for centuries; they adopt a subtler approach in their actions, although they may lead to overt ones. For example: Vol would LIKELY rather have someone else step in and act as a target she can control; someone like the overzealous and greedy Cardinal of the Silver Flame. If Vol (a powerful Lich) could sneak agents into his retinue, and begin corrupting with the cooperation of the fiend bound within the Flame itself, she would have an entire nation she could point at someone like a double-barrel shotty loaded with .00 buck. 2. Why would the Chamber and Vol work together? Is Siberys blacking out some sign? If so, it would take time to be identified and deciphered by the Chamber; granted, they are younger dragons, and used to acting more quickly on matters than the other dragons, but quickly for a dragon could be AN ENTIRE FRIGGIN' DECADE!! (I hate wyrms...so hard to DM...where's my Aspirin...) 3. To match an above statement; Khorvaire will not go quietly just because all the adventurers who were in contact with the Chamber went to Xen'drik and 'drank the Kool-Aid'. Other heroes would remain; the Gatekeepers, powerful druids with the ability to decipher the movements of the Prophecy on their own; the Keeper of the Flame, Jaela Daran, a 12-year old girl and an 18TH LEVEL CLERIC IN THRANE'S CAPITAL!! It still freaks me out to read about that; so much power in such a small vessel...eek... Not to mention the dragonmarked houses, with their own armies and heroes and heirs. You can't tell me at least a half-dozen of them don't have a Heir of Siberys up their sleeve training somewhere for something just like this. In short, you lack one big gun for your campaign: motivation. The big Why; the one word that spawned a million more. Why is Vol attacking overtly? Why is the chamber helping her? Why are they trying to take over Khorvaire? And most importantly, Why now? Why have they changed what they've been doing for the past few centuries? Siberys blacking out is a good start; the dragons freaking out because they didn't see it coming is even better. Now tie it all together; why are they freaking out, and what are they going to do? Remember, dragons and liches live a long time, and would rather weave intrigue that last dozens of years than dozens of days. "The world will end in on week" may not be enough to get them into a frenzy; "The Mad Ones will slip their chains, and Siberys will go silent and dark before raining her tears on a ruined world; the death of her lover, Eberron, is nigh." Now THAT is a good reason for the dragons to go nuts. |
