| Stainawarjar02-22-05, 01:10 PM | So, Max Payne calls itself Noir, just as Eberron does... any similarities between the two? Can the Max Payne story be adopted to Sharn? "Take me to Cold Iron" |
| Vharuck02-22-05, 01:11 PM | Max Payne (at least as far as I could see) has the mindset and atmosphere that says both "Everyone vs. Me" and "There's no hope." This is fundemental to noir. |

Have some guy wielding magicly reloading repeating crossbows in both hands, and you're pretty close to Max Payne. :) |
| Vharuck02-22-05, 02:11 PM | And create a magic spell called "bullet-time." |
| Kid SixXx02-22-05, 02:20 PM | The basic premise of Max Payne (Lone Wolf law enforcement vs. Various Criminal Organizations) is most certainly germane to Eberron. One of the recurring "villains" in my campaign is a Changeling vigilante (formerly a member of the Dark Lanterns) who is now embroiled in a dirty war against the Tyrants & Daask. Little does he know that he's being secretly funded by the Boromir Clan. He's a ranger / rogue. Pretty much an excuse for me to use the Urban Tracking feat from the ECS, and the Broad Bladed Shortsword & Barbed Dagger from the CAH. |
| jonthegm02-22-05, 02:25 PM | My current riff on an Eberron Max Payne Opening Scene: The PCs are hired [sic] to be bodyguards for a big ball. Unfortunately, when they arrive, everyone is dead. The PCs have just enough time to look around for clues when the bad guys come back down from the upper rooms with their haul. The PCs make short work of them, only to find that the watch has arrived, and they're convinced that the PCs did it. |
| kisama02-22-05, 03:42 PM | I wish I could come up with the type of monlogues they had in Max Payne. Personally I thought they were brilliant. I think Max Payne is more noire because of the suffering hero who has nothing left to live for except revenge. |
| darkthought02-22-05, 03:47 PM | And create a magic spell called "bullet-time." aka Time Stop. |
| jonthegm02-23-05, 03:16 AM | I wish I could come up with the type of monlogues they had in Max Payne. Personally I thought they were brilliant. Heh, they're easier than they look. "The rain dripped off the walkways above me like gargoyle's tears, mixing with the bloody mess at my feet. Someone had wanted poor Khaz'zak dead, I supposed. No, dead was the wrong word for it. Shredded was much more appropriate. My boots squished on something I wasn't willing to think about as I pondered my next move. If they had gotten to Khaz'zak, then that means they probably expected me to talk to his Daask contacts. I didn't have time for this. It was time to go to the source." |
| Blizzard_Bobsan02-23-05, 05:12 AM | "Every raindrop was a spear, falling from the sky, each one a tear of an angel of Syrania, weeping for the fall of mankind. The crossbow bolts were flying around, screaming like banshees, thirsty for my soul. The warforged archers looked like some nighmare of a crazy Cyran artificer, twisted by the Mourning. I knew that blood was dripping frow my wounds, but I couldn't afford to feel the pain right now. I was living on dreamlily and desire to get even. Alas, there is no such thing as "even" in Sharn, the City of Knives, the Gateway to Perdition. Not now, not ever. And just when you think that you have finally sunk to the bottom, something pulls you deeper..." |
| Talin Enwass02-23-05, 06:31 AM | Hi... a little OT, but too funny to miss: penny arcade (http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php3?date=2001-07-30) |
| Stainawarjar02-23-05, 12:09 PM | Woa, lot's of people used time to answer me. And I just started the whole thing to have an excuse to say "Take me to Cold Iron" aka Time Stop. Or just simply haste. Oh, And one more time: Take me to Cold Iron! |
| kisama02-23-05, 03:43 PM | Since we're submitting writings... The entrance to the mine waited patiently for the 7 men like the maw of some gargantuan beast waiting patienly for it's next unsuspecting prey to carelessly wander to close. As Bloodmane watched, the men entered the tunnels. Their torches pierced the darkness like small candles in a smoke filled bar that barely provided enough light to see accross the table you were sitting at let alone the rest of the room. After a moment they were gone and Bloodmane was left with that hollow feeling in his stomach once more. He stood there a moment and surveyed the camp. Most of the slaves were back in the pit. The pit. It was a personal hell he and his men had created for the slaves. When the slaves were not breaking their backs in the mines, they were confined to the pit, a large fetid, stinking, hole in the earth where the slaves, slept, ate, and relieve themselves. Heh, some of his guards had taken to relieving themselves in the pit on occasion. It made no difference to these men. To them, the slaves were just animals. Savages taken from various tribes on the island and put to work in the mine. Like smelling pack animals, they didn't count for anything in the world of modern Eberron. They were just tools for a job. There was a hollow feeling in Bloodmane's stomach. It was not guild but something else. Like a husk of corn left out past harvest, he was drying up inside and he knew it. He made his way back to his tent. Several of his lackeys caught up with him as he made his way along the row of tents but he brushed them asside. A simple grunt was all it took to convey the message that he did not want to be disturbed. His lackeys interpreted the message that he was upset and dangerous. In all honesty he was upset. This recent disturbance would cost the operation much time. Time which he never seemed to have enough of any longer. Time which his employers tracked with an obsession and were constantly reminding him of. But this was not what upset him. He was mad at himself. EDIT: Shortened up my post. I still think Max Payne has something in those monologues which I can't quite capture. The imagery is really well done. |
| Somebloke02-24-05, 03:38 AM | Bad game, but enough noir cliches to last you for twenty levels. Worth playing if you really want to dig the atmosphere. |
