Uratoh 11-26-05, 12:48 PM	Last warning, Brent...stay out. shoo!!! Reposting this in General cause noone ever seems to hit P&P... Ok. I've been debating the 'truth' about Merrix in my campaign world, and I've gotten a few ideas down... 1: Merrix is secretly a Renegade Mastermaker (# of levles unknown) on top of Artificer and Dragonmarked Heir. He wants to conquer Khorvre with an army of fanatically loyal warforged, essentially. 2: The Lord of Blades knows his plans, and is his greatest enemy...his marshaling of an army war on humanity is just his way of trying to oppose Merrix...I'm debating declaring him to be that warforged who aided the king of Breland (cause he probably is anyway). He'd be something of an antihero figure...he needs a force to oppose Merrix, and he needs a nation to back him...the ends justify the means. 3: Merrix only has 3 of the 4 pieces of Xulo, the 4th resides with the PCs who kept it hidden. He will be sending agents to retrieve it, as he GREATLY wishes to have the completed Xulo pattern, even knowing the truth of it. I may have him and Xulo merge somehow later on. I posted this as a semi vent, and semi 'how many levels of mastermaker?' and 'how feasible.help flesh it out' type dealy.
Volaran 11-26-05, 07:41 PM	How far advanced as a Mastermaker? Is he cloaking his warforged components with illusions? I'd always figured Merrix to be a pretty public person. I know people have complained about his "not-so-secret" creation forge before, but I've become fairly satisfied that this is something frequently given in campaign material, rather common knowledge on Khorvaire. Being a Mastermaker (Random Question: What would a non-renegade mastermaker be like) seems like it would be more difficult to hide his passtime. Have you decided why Merrix wants conquest? He's already a prominent leader of a dragonmarked house, incredibly wealthy, ect. What is there to gain by blatant military force?
Uratoh 11-26-05, 08:15 PM	He's not to the 'needs ilusion' part, its mostly his left arm. He's adopted the style of dress where you've got a cloak that sort of mostly covers the left arm/side of your body, etc, so he can easily go about in public, wave, kiss babies... Im not entirely sure his goal is really CONQUEST I spose, I aught hammer out the details. He may be in a mad quest for knowledge, and the PCs could discover several half-golem failed experiments lurking in undersharn, etc... In any case, he's up to no good, and the LoB sees it as his duty to stop him, and to do that he needs an army, a nation...he takes an extremist viewpoint viewpoint almost out of necessity. he needs to promise grand goals to get enough force to take down the almost-leader of a dragonmarked house... On levels of mastermaker its looking like he would be 3, 4 at most. Though since his Battlefist can be augmented as any weapon can, as an Artificer he's likely buffed it quite a bit beyond its default +1.
Thanqol 11-28-05, 12:41 AM	My campaign has Merrix building a giant laser to shoot at Ridera because he's whacked out and thinks the Quori are out to get him. The PCs are finding him the various components unwittingly. I thought that the Warforged idea was too straightforward and unsubtle - he's not going to win against the combined armies of the 5 nations with an army he built in his basement. He's not going to develop a 'perfect' Warforged capeable of storming Flamekeep and it's 18th level Cleric + Army. The single Creation Forge of one House, as weakened and divided as House Cannith is at the moment, is *not* going to win him any sort of war. Plus the Lord of Blades is stocked up on Human, Elf, etc Bane arrows. If Merrix is building an army of Warforged for himself all that stuff's going to be pointless - just like a WF civil war as opposed to any sort of conquest. He'll lose a lot of followers if his crusade to sweep humanity from the earth starts off with him fighting a Warforged army. Evil geniuses don't try to muscle their way to power! The Empire had the Death Star instead of relying upon Stormtrooper rule, every James Bond villain had a superweapon instead of an army. Just my own thoughts on the greatest potential supervillain of Eberron.
