Forget the Dreaming Dark, the Lords of Dust and the rest of those wannabes... the real BBEG in Eberron is the best artificer of Khorvaire.

A Wish every round, anyone?

And any character that even starts to go down this road in my campaign will most assuredly get the lightning bolt from heaven and hell. One that no Wish can ever reverse.

But for CO purposes, yes; that's quite a way to become a god. As far as Merrix doing that...well, he might be the most powerful Artificer in the world, but I'd like to think that the spell Wish is so far gone from ever being found in "X Wizard's ol' Hideaway" that he wouldn't have access to it.

He doesn't need to break the rules anyway. He made most of them. :)

The problems with this have been pointed out...

One is that no Wand can hold a Wish, save an Epic Wand.

2, affording a Staff of Wish is also Epic. 750x 17x9 = 114k, +25,000 x 50 for each initial Wish, and then a minimum of +12,750 for some secondary level 1 spell, like Detect Ubercheese. It would cost 300,000 xp to create the initial staff...by the rules, you simply can't make one, since you can't lose a level sacrificing xp for a magical item. You'd have to be level 300 to do this...which by then, the power to do so is completely superfluous.

3, nothing says you don't have to pay extraordinary costs when invoking this ability. Force the payment of the XP, a very fair ruling for the power of an Action point, and the problem goes away.

you do know that he could always suck craft XP out of alot of magic items to pull this off, remember he is a NPC and can be used buy us DMs to thwart those pesky power gameing PCs right ;)

I should hope most of the Game Masters involved in Eberron are at least skilled enough to refrain from the use of a Deus Ex Machina like "And Merrix uses a Wish spell to make it all go away." Or worse, "Merrix uses a bunch of Wish spells to make it happen anyway, and all the players' efforts go to waste." It's annoying, as both a player and a Game Master, to see this kind of behavior. Bah.

Merrix is far too interesting as a patron or a foil to have the GM resort to this sort of non-sense.

As for unlimited wish spells... A simple "no," is quite sufficient to keep things under control. In my game, unlimited wish spells with very definately be a "no..."

And watch your players fall down laughing if they manage to sunder your staff or use the monk to run up and grapple with your character to give the others time to come up and sunder it. All the wishes in the world wouldn't help you when were they are coming from is easy to brake. It’s a nice trick but a good DM or player can neutralize it before it becomes too much trouble.

Isn't Merrix too low level anyway to use any of those spells anyway? As far as RAW are concerned, isn't he only 9th level crafter (9 Art/3dragonmark heir)?

With all those APs, you can even make a good case for action surge now. 2 AP no longer seems expensive for a second standard action per round. What happens with unfettered heroism when duration is extended to 24 h? Does it have an upper limit on APs or does it accumulate if you don't use them? (don't have my RoE book here)

Merrix's level is described in reference to "the beginning" of a DM's campaign, usually. Therefore, unless Merrix is doing nothing but watching the grass grow; it's easy to assume his ECL has risen by the time the adventurers would see him/have to "deal" with him.

Merrix starts the campaign at 12-level, as the Lord of Blades (if I well remember)... So he's a real high level guy.

Everybody knows that Merrix rocks...
And in my campaign my dragonmarked artificer 6/fighter1 is his protegee  (I'm trying to help him to create a huge warforged titan...and the other PCS don't know anything about it)

My pc is going to marry a close relative of Merrix to seal their alleance...

Also, it says nowhere that you can't cast TWO (or more) Unfettered Heroism at the same time (maybe even in the same round, (I know you can have only one immediate action/round, but what stop me from casting it using a standard or move action?) with Action surge you can have an extra action for level rounds, with spontaneous caster the wizard can cast every spells he know, and so on.

I'd probably say that two unfettered heroism spells don't stack. The second one just extends the duration. It's like that for just about all other buffs. If you cast 2 divine favors, they don't stack. Duration is just reset at the beginning of the second spell (and first spell is probably assumed to end at that point). I think it'd take the wording of the spell to specify that they stack to change that general rule about spell buffs.

Still, the option to use wand surge for free wand activation or action surge for an extra standard action at half the regular cost is pretty valuable. On top of the ability to use more than one AP per round. That's all around good wand usage synergies even if you don't use it on a wand of wish.
