| The Law01-17-07, 08:42 AM | Hi guys, Just curious if I'm reading this right... from what I can see, for the duration of the infusion (min 5 rounds), a wand of scorching ray used with the Empower metamagic feat will fire empowered scorching rays? Wow. Nice infusion... Doesn't it make Metamagic Spell Trigger a bit less useful? With Metamagic Item, you don't use extra charges... |
| Cabral01-17-07, 11:19 PM | It doesn't use charges, but it does use one of his Infusions for the day and requires some preparation. The metamagic spell trigger ability doesn't need any advance preparation and only expends charges. Metamagic item can be great when you know you're facing the big encounter of the day, but the metamagic spell trigger ability is much more flexible. |
| aelryinth01-18-07, 03:04 AM | That is correct. Metamagic Item is all about preparation. Metamagic Spell Trigger is all about Holy Crap we're in Trouble and I need that effect NOW----- It also stacks with the infusion. Conservative general consensus is you can't stack multiple metamagic item infusions...one overrides the ones before it. Likewise, you can't stack Spell Trigger stuff. If you can...then you get a lot of potential Artificer cheese (ending up at 960d6 dmg or something with enough feats, from a single charge...or in one round.) The ideal Damage combo for a conservative wand/staff attack is to Twin your wand/staff with Metamagic Item, with Quicken ready to activate it a second time with Metamagic Spell Trigger if needed. ===Aelryinth |
