Metamagic Spell-Trigger and Eternal Wands. [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-09-04, 03:34 PM Ok, so an Eternal Wand says that you can use the spell in it two times a day. It speaks nothing about charges. Could you in any way apply metamagic feats using Spell Trigger to those wands?

11-09-04, 06:18 PM Yes, if your an artificer and use your Metamagic spell trigger ability. Even though an eternal wand has no charge, it's still a spell trigger item. It is not a spell.

11-09-04, 06:40 PM The natural way for this to work would be that charges are treated as uses per day, which wouldnt let you do a lot of metamagicing. You might argue that you could add as many metamagic feats on top as you could muster and it would just use up future uses, but that seems rather contrived ... and unbalancing :)

11-10-04, 04:26 AM I've been thinking, and if you go by the book in the RAW, you wouldn't be able to apply level-increasing Metamagic Feats. Be´cause it has no charges, no extra charges can be spent, and no extra metamagi can be applied. Otherwise, a Lvl 1 Sorceror could Twinn a spell. Just because he doesn't have spell slots, doesn't mean he can't use it.

11-10-04, 06:35 AM If I recall correctly, an Eternal Wand can be considered to be a wand of 2 charges which can hold up to a 3rd level spell with a max caster level of 6th.

So if your question is: can the wand be created with a metamagic feated spell, the answer would be yes, as long as the effective spell level didn't excede 3rd.

If your question is: can an Artificer apply the third level infusion "Metamagic Item" to the Eternal Wand, again the answer would be yes. Of course, the Artificer would still have to have the metamagic feat being infused as per the infusion.

If your question is: can an Artificer use the supernatural ability "Metamagic Spell Trigger" on an Eternal Wand, then the answer is again yes, providing that the finished thing only uses the 2 charges. (Or however many charges the Eternal Wand might have from application of the Power Surge infusion)
