| BoneLord_of_Skullthrone06-27-06, 10:14 PM | ^ | Question. I have the beginning of an idea for a campaign. The original concept was for a Rot Reaver (calling himself "Mr. Cleaver" and disguised as an orc) who captured a vampire rogue, Fenix Vaelen, from the dungeon of a Kaarnathi vampire lord. Mr. Cleaver (a/k/a "Cleaver Man" to certain law enforcment agencies that are investigating his "handywork") decided to keep Fenix around a little longer in order to assist him in capturing some relic of Dhakaan. (I was thinking about the darkskull. I thought a rot reaver might like to have an area continually affected by a desecration spell, since they do feed on negative energy.) The skull is being taken to the Blood of Vol shrine in lower Tavick's Landing, Sharn, and Fenix asks the PCs for assistance in capturing this "artifact". I was thinking about having Flamewind send the PCs to Redblade's in Death's Gate, or to First Tower. Their quest would be to find the darkskull and return it to its place in the lost Dhakaani city it originally came from. The city was lost under Lake Cyre during the Daelker Wars. Basically, I am having trouble deciding on exactly how to run this and develop the story past the initial "capture the powerful artifact from the evil cult" adventure. And Im not even sure that a Rot Reaver would travel with a Vampire, since they do tend to eat all the undead they find. I would really appreciate help with motivations and story development here, I seem to be in a bit of a rut. |

I suppose that it could become a recurrent villain. You could make the darkskull an ingredient of the Reanimator eldritch machine. No, I don't think that the association with the vampire would work. I just can't see why the Rot Reaver would act that way. |

I don't know. |

Fenix, the vampire, might only be working with Mr. Cleaver because he was magicly sealed in the dungeon of a Blood of Vol vampire lord's manor. Cleaver would have killed Fenix too, except that Fenix convinced him that the Darkskull would give him even greater power over the undead. The PCs might be needed to fill the role of workers until Fenix can gather a cult of thralls and a few spawn slaves. I like the idea that the Darkskull may be a component in some eldritch machine. I think the machine should kill everyone in a 3 mile radius who fails a will save, reannimate them as zombies, and place all undead in the radius under the power of the machine's controller. Now all I need is to figure out what I need to make the machine. At least Desecrate, Animate Dead, and some save vs. death spell; needs to be started up under the darkness of Long Shadows; needs living souls for fuel; only undead can controll it? |
