Mind Flayers, Giths and the Astral Plane [Archive] - Wizards Community

My question is: Are there mind flayers living in the Astral Plane?

From the Player's Guide to Eberron on page 123, the Giths escaped from Xoriat and the slavery of the Mind flayers for the Astral Plane.

From the ECS on page 305, the mind flayers are natives of Xoriat. Some live in Khyber. It says nothing about the Astral Plane.

Are the giths safe from the mind flayers in the Astral Plane? Are there any mind flayers in that plane?

03-06-07, 09:58 AM I'm guessing the the backstory for the Gith is pretty much the same as in other settings, and you post confirmed that for me.

However, I remember seeing in the ECS the the Githyanki live on the chaos plane, but I couldn't see anything for the Githzerai (or it could be the other way around). So I figure that either they just forgot about the 'zerai, or maybe the race didn't face a schism in the race.

I don't think there was ever a schism but you could always create one.

There is further fluff about the Githyanki in the Explorer's Handbook. They have a permanent settlement near one of the larger entrances that allows accessibility to the depths of Khyber.

I see no reason you wouldn't be able to find a mind flayer or two in Astral Space. They are powerful, intelligent, and downright devious. To think that none could make it to the Astral Plane from Xoriat would be a little more than wishful thinking.

I could see it happening this way:

Rogue: "Guys. What'sa mind flayer look like?"
Wiz: "Kinda lanky with bolbous round heads and octopus tantacles where it's nose should be."
Cleric: "You should'nt be worrying about mind flayers here. They're all locked away in Xoriat right now."
Rogue: "But I think I just saw....."

ZZAAAAAPPPP!!!!

Wiz: "uummphh"
Cleric: "HOLY #@%$!!!!"
Rogue: "SEEEEEE!"
Barbarian: "AAARRRRGGGG KKIILLLLLLL"

as you can see... it wouldnt go well

You'll never see a flayer in the Astral because the 'yanki live there, even in Eberron. A flayer on that plane is dead meat, and they know it.

The 'zerai live in Kythri.
