Monetary Units in Eberron [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-15-05, 01:31 PM I've been searching everywhere on the forum because I remember there was an answer to my question somewhere but, unfortunately, time isn't on my side. Therefore, in the effort of cutting down the time required to find the answer, I thought I'd just post the question and see if anyone has the answer readily available. Forgive if this is redundant or a question that's been asked frequently in the past.

What are the names of the coinage in Eberron?

I seem to remember that platinum coins are called Dragons, and I believe coppers are called Crowns, but that's as far as my memory takes me.

Thanks beforehand to any who might have the answers and sees fit to post them in a reply :)

At least in the novels, I don't know if they are stated in a canon place, and I'm sure the novels probably contradict themselves in someplace or other as well.

Doesn't quite roll off the tongue, does it? Meanwhile, if you think about it, there aren't that many monsters in the Monster Manual that start with the letter P. Consider:

Pegasus
Phantom Fungus
Phase Spider
Phasm
Pseudodragon
Purple Worm

Out of that list, the only one that would sound even remotely okay would be pegasus. However, even then, what happens if you have two of them? Are they called pegasi? Pegasuses..es? I think, based on that list, they chose well when calling them dragons. If it makes you feel better, they may all have originally been called dragons. After all, you have a copper, silver, gold and platinum dragon. Maybe the platinum piece just preserved the name. Later.

It goes better with the established theme (power, royalty, etc.) than plain dragons or random monsters.
