| godpunch09-01-04, 09:21 PM | Anyone else watched the movie Hero yet? Man, it rocked.. Action point rolls and bad-ass imagery up the wazzoo ;) It got me thinking, maybe I should try out my lawful-good assassin concept in Eberron. I might even make a small sub-group of the church based around it - "the fist of god". The only thing I might change about the Assassin requirements (well, other than the alignment restriction) is the "must kill for no other purpose than..". What would be a good replacement? I was thinking some test of purity and endurance. |
| Kesh09-01-04, 09:47 PM | You also have to throw out the "must be evil" requirement for the PrC as well. |
| godpunch09-01-04, 09:51 PM | Well, obviously. But what do you all think would be a good (read: difficult) test which a monk would be put through in order to be inducted into a special sect of assassins for the church? |
| bigdob5209-01-04, 10:44 PM | There's a 'good' version of the assassin in the Book of Exalted Deeds. I forget the name right now, but that's definetly a good base to start building off of. |
| ting-bu-dong09-02-04, 09:21 AM | Hi, how about changing it to "Must kill for no other reason than to establish order." So, if you play on a large scale, taking out that orc chieftain that has been raiding the lands for several years now, will probably cause stability for the smaller villages around. On a smaller scale, assassinating the head of a chaotic evil cult or the leader of a group of raiders that have been disrupting the trade lines, would be an option. tbd |
| Geoff Watson09-02-04, 10:27 AM | Nameless wouldn't be a D&D Assassin. He's more like a Fighter/Monk. Maybe a Psychic Warrior; some of the psionic powers are similar to wuxia stunts. Geoff. |
| ZiD09-02-04, 11:27 AM | You could easily manipulate the req's for an assassin and create a good version of the assassin. I cant really think right now cuz theres too much on my mind, however you can basically copy the assassin class but change some of its abilitys. Give him maybe a few spell like abilitys that constitute an assassin against evil or something... thats just me, but its a good idea bro. |
| Kiirnodel09-02-04, 02:49 PM | bigdob, its Slayer of Domiel. Slayer of Domiel: Lawful Good wik sneak attack death touch...as well as a good skill selection and spells! |
| ZiD09-02-04, 02:53 PM | I dont like tha book of exhaulted deeds... especially on higher level campaigns. When people use exhaulted chars they just gom overboard powergaming... it makes it no fun. |
| Desies09-02-04, 04:28 PM | My fellow players and I kind of kicked around this idea as well. We decided that the Slayer of Domiel (the good assassin) was totally lame. So we made (in our heads) good and neutral versions of the assassin. The abilities are slightly different depending on alignment, but they are basically just assassins. |
| Villain by Necessity09-02-04, 09:33 PM | There was an assassin type class in an issue of Dragon. I don't remember the issue (I think it was 321,but can't find it to make sure). It was an article related to Al Quadim. The class is called the Holy Slayer and it was basically an assassin for religious orders. I'm already using it in Ebberon. EDIT: found it, it is 321 |
| Kiirnodel09-02-04, 10:12 PM | I don't think its lame. I think it is underpowered...the death touch should be 2d6/level :) It's not too good but it fills the part. |
| Master of shaarat'khesh09-03-04, 12:39 AM | One of the great ideas advanced with Eberron is the blurry line of alignment. No longer do PC's have to march forward in a strict ethical set of rules where they're always worried they'll cross some line and the DM will knock them down a notch thus possibly lose class benefits and have to atone, perform a bunch of goody two shoes quests and etc... The blurry line is more realistic and makes for much more interestin characters and story lines. Anyone else watched the movie Hero yet? Man, it rocked.. Action point rolls and bad-ass imagery up the wazzoo It got me thinking, maybe I should try out my lawful-good assassin concept in Eberron. I'm going to see Hero this weekend but I'm already gearing up for a character idea with inspiration and excitement from you suggestion. Thanks :) |
| Brastan09-03-04, 01:12 AM | Requirements Alignment: Any evil. (This not a problem for Eberron, your character just becomes evil. Although think of how such a member of the silver flame becomes evil is something else, and cool if you do it right.) Special: The character must kill someone for no other reason than to join the assassins. (Edit: must have killed someone on the orders of the Silver Flame [the actual flame mind you not the Order] with out question) This works for the corruption that can occur with churches of Eberron and how the Silver Flame is actually the composite of Good and Evil (read Pg 230 about the Pure Flamers/Puritans) The character is doing the right thing just the wrong way. :) |

Yeah, I wouldn't either. He's a monk with a sword. That flies. :) The fight scenes reminded me of action parts, and the "honorable" combat of the 3 assassins inspired me to think of a lawful good assassin. Although sneak attack and poison use probably isn't honorable. Still, an assassin could be lawful == disciplined and good == believing what he's doing is for the greater good; the ends justify the means? edit: I agree with anyone who said blurry alignments in Eberron are a good thing :) This was the way I always dm'd / played, anyway.. |
