| Wolfen Fenrison10-22-05, 12:32 PM | would monster classes from savage species, planar handbook, and libris mortis be ok ot use in an erberron campaign more than that should make a monster class only party, or a mixed party of base race/class players and monster class players |
| Edymnion10-22-05, 01:03 PM | Normally, for any normal setting, I'd say no, not really. But ya know what? This is Eberron! "Monster" races have more acceptance here than any other setting in the game! :D Goblinoid races like goblins, hobgoblins, etc fit right in as PCs no problems. Orcs are good PCs as well. Undead PCs from Libris Mortis are a little trickier, but they fit in very nicely with the Blood of Vol, and possibly Karnnath. As for the planar guys, I would stay very far away from things like half-celestials and the like, mainly because of how Eberron's planes are constructed. However, the Gensai (the elementally touched guys) actually fit VERY well into the setting. There are manifest zones for all the major elemental planes (Fernia, the lake of fire, for example) that come in and out of phase over the years. Someone born in a Fernia manifest zone when it was cotemerious (or however you spell it :P) could potentially be born as a Fire Gensai. Someone born under the magical influences of the Plane of Fire, who himself (or herself) embodies some of the aspects of that realm. Top that off with some of the Elemental Grafts from Magic of Eberron, and they would do quite well. |
| Wolfen Fenrison10-22-05, 01:32 PM | well i have the list in my sig, but iwas specificly thinking of the monstrous classes, i think an vampire spawn class human from karnath would work very well, or an astral deva classed PC sent to take out a radiant idol in sharn, stuff like that btw should re-print the list here? |
| LaoKhanWei10-22-05, 03:55 PM | Why wouldn't they be ok normally? Savage Species classes were created for use as PCs in the first place. |
| Wolfen Fenrison10-22-05, 04:37 PM | i didn't say they wouldnt, what i ment is that savage species recomends that when using monster classes the whole party should be monsters, because its balenced that way. monster classes get fewer hit points, skill points, and feats, these are the bread and butter of most characters but the monstrous class system shorts the PCs something godawful. for a mixed party of MCs and PCs i would give the monster character max hit points every time it gets a new hit die, plus it get 1 feat at first and 1 every 3 lvs as normal on top of what class gives (which are counted as bonus feats), this is a close of a fix i would go and so far a mixed party using these house rules works, but would this be appropiete for erberron btw the list is the monster board and D&D general board |
| Edymnion10-23-05, 12:09 AM | Why wouldn't they be ok normally? Savage Species classes were created for use as PCs in the first place.Honestly, I have very rarely seen somebody play a monster PC that didn't play it just to avoid roleplaying. Oh yeah, sure, they say its for roleplaying, then they play the absolute most typical stereotype they can come up with. Its not really being original, its just using the stereotype from having to come up with anything on your own. Thats just my opinion though. In my games at least, you gotta give me a DAMNED good reason why you're playing a monster race, it had better be a well thought out character, and you should realize that if you're playing some wierd monster, chances are you are going to be attacked on sight in "civilized" areas. Eberron has locations where monsters walking the streets are common, and a monster game could do VERY well in one of those cities. But a Beholder floating in through the front gate of Sharn pretty much gets shot on sight in my game. |

| Wolfen Fenrison10-23-05, 09:25 PM | Master Monster Class List: composed by Wolfen Fenrison This is the master monster class list, with campaign settings like Eberron that have whole nations of monster (at least two that I know of) and one ruled by undead, this makes a great chance for DMs to dust off their savage species book, but wait now wizards has run with the idea so with a slew of reprints and new monster classes someone has to organize them. This list is for any DM who wants to run a monster campaign or has a player that wants to play a race with a high LA and is on this list or just wants to have more options available for their players. Some of the classes have been reprinted and it is the updated reprints that I use for reference. The list is compiled by; Name, Number of Levels, starting ability score adjustments, Speed, Size, Hit die (max hit gained) , Skill pts., BAB, Good Saves, Weapon and Armor Proficiency, Spells and/or Spell-like abilities, Recommended class(es) for multiclassing, type(subtype), book title and page number for reference. As a side note for outsiders I removed their alignment subtypes because any intelligent creature can have any alignment, and I removed the extraplanar subtype because realistically an outsider that is a player character is from the prime. When selecting an undead monster class choose a suitable race from the Player Race List for the base race. | Wolfen Fenrison10-23-05, 09:27 PM | off of this list which would be for PCs in erberron?? |
| LaoKhanWei10-23-05, 11:24 PM | I see no difference between a monster race and a player race. They're all creatures and in most cases they're humanoid. Halflings and Dwarves are in the MM too! |
| Raziel_Brokodar10-23-05, 11:28 PM | off of this list which would be for PCs in erberron?? Centaur (Eldeen Reaches), Doppelganger (maybe) Gnoll, Medusa, Minotaur, Ogre, Skulk Gnoll and Ogre are the best from the list you provided... Bugbear, Gnoll, and Hobgoblin are the best choices. |
| Brain Picker10-24-05, 06:51 AM | ...You all are right. Monster classes are very appropriate for ebberron. But...they lead to trouble with people who will abuse it. I still get chills... Stupid Asteral Deva that would'nt come down from flight but could somehow hit with its greatsword! |
