Hey everyone,

Not sure if anything like this has been done yet. If so, forgive me, I'm a n00b.

I propose that people suggest what kind of monsters from other sources: movies, books, anime/manga, and comics that they think it would just be plain cool to see in Eberron. If anyone feels like taking a shot at statting them out, they can feel free.

Another option is that if there's already some monster that is close enough in an existing sourcebook, shout out what book it's in.

Here's my suggestion:

Hollows from Bleach.

I won't make a shot at trying to stat them, I'm more of a PC than a DM.

Funny I was just watching Bleach and thought I'd check out the boards for a bit.:D

Stating Hollows would be diffiult as they have a large variety of powers, with few common central abilities.
Maybe make them a monstrous race(or intelligent undead)
that take class levels. A few variants on types could be interesting also.

I'll try make somthing later but its late so I'm off to bed.

P.S Its ok to be a noob(I hate that word):headexplo

If they are created/cursed/mutated/etc, that would be a monstruous template instead, I say.

Hollows always struck me as being similar to the lost from Magic of incarnum.

The Resurrection Hounds from Hellboy.
The hardcore Vampires from Hellsing. (Alucard, touched by Xoriat?)
Xenomorphs from Aliens.

The hardcore Vampires from Hellsing. (Alucard, touched by Xoriat?)

Alucard, the first Qabalrin elf of Xen'drik to create vampires, tested on himself first. During his hungering madness, he fell under the sway of a daelkyr. And, based on Alucard's creepy forms with hundreds of eyes, I'd say it was Belashyrra.

Niiiice.

Question is what is Alucard doing? After all, the Hellsing organization is battling techno/genetically made vampires. So would he have escaped the Qalabrin disaster, and is now hunting agents of the Daelkyr? Sort've "I know you are a pale shadow of the Daelkyr, for I have tasted their might"?

The Kaiju Aquatic Shocker Lizard that has been sleeping for millenia in the seas between Khovaire and Xen'Drik that is awakened by <insert suitably massive event here> that comes ashore and begins destroying Sharn.

How about the Homonculi from Fullmetal Alchemist? Each one would have to be statted differently, but they could have an interesting background. Perhaps the accidental by-product of Cannith renegades trying to resurrect loved ones lost during the Last War, using their corpses and a creation forge?

Perhaps the Landstriders from The Dark Crystal?

I know my PCs are running through an admitedly blatant rip-off of Ravenholme from Half-Life 2. You know what that means...

No, not flinging circular saw blades with the gravity gun. Headcrabs! Good ol' Daelkyr can make anything. :)

I actually tried to make Headcrabs. I don't remember what the problem was in the process; I think the fact that the user was killed after the thing successfully grappled.

In retrospect, I imagine a decent way to handle it would be handling it would be like the Extraction rules for the Mind-Flayer. Instead of sucking the brain though, the critter hotwires the body and begins mutating it.

I used something less immediately fatal. Basically, if the Cranial Maw (ie: Headcrab) deals critical bite damage to a medium or small enemy, it latches on. It henceforth deals critical bite damage to the victim every round until it is removed with a successful grapple check (or is killed). The Maw, being Tiny, cannot normally grapple something Medium-sized, but I made an exception in this case. It also gets a hefty bonus to grapple to offset the -8 it gets from it's size, and the negatives it gets from subpar strength.

If the Cranial Maw kills its victim with a critical bite (such as when grappling, or with a coup-de-grace), it sends nasty tendrils into the victim's head, reanimating the corpse into a Maw Zombie (basically an ordinary zombie except it's a construct, not undead, and grows claws). Hotwiring is a very good way of putting it.

I also made other varieties of Maw, to represent the swift and venomous breeds.

Did you give them Improved Crit: Bite?

The way I was operating was on HL2, in how you can hear the headcrab zombie victims screaming from underneath the evil facehuggers.

Though I imagine another way to operate it would be - say - allowing the creature to latch on, override the victim, and drain an ability stat (Int, Con, Wis?) and when that drainage reaches 0, the host is utterly brain-dead, but the corpse is still in control of the brainpuppet.

For anti-thread-clogging...
I didn't give them Imp Crit, no. Basically, the only way they'll get a critical bite is pure chance, or by whittling a victim to negative hp and delivering a CdG. They're smart enough to do that (barely), and it's very unlikely they'll deal enough damage in a round to kill a person outright (the claws dealt 1d4-2, if I recall).

As for the screaming, I viewed it more as an eery side effect, in that the maw's control of the corpse's functions isn't perfect, so they have difficulty with things like vocal chords and diaphragms. Note the zombies never actually "say" anything, it's really nothing more than snarls, growls, moans, or wails. I had the common zombies sound mournful and sad, the faster ones angry, and the venomous and bloated ones somewhat depressed. It's eery, but really just coincidental.

I chose to go with raw hitpoints as the deciding factor of when a victim succumbs, rather than an ability score like Int or Wis, since I see the act of reanimation to be a very physical and disgusting process, rather than a comparitively clean, magical thing like stealing willpower or conscious thought. The victim's brain is being physically BURROWED INTO, which tends to deal damage and make rather a mess. :)

He works for the Silver Flame in it's battle with the undead of the Blood of Vol, because he hates Erandis d'Vol's selfish manipulation of the ancient Qabalrin beliefs and rites.

The Silver Flame works with him because he's useful (he helped create or personally knew the creators of the very first samples of most of the modern undead), and because nobody short of Jaela in her temple is powerful enough to scratch him (and he's smarter than to enter Flamekeep).

I didnŽt really get the impression that anything (short of a whole bunch of "Great Old Ones"(TM)) could even scratch Dracula... er... Alucard...

However, I suggest the "Sylvan Surfer". You know, that "IŽll destroy the world"-guy from Fantastic 4. Just with pointed ears...
