It works well, you have Giants as the doiminant race as well as cool new races, classes, spells, items that are fairly alien to the standard D&D world. Dropping the whole thing in there might not work, but you could certainly adopt some pieces. Thoughts? |

| Streamweaver04-18-05, 02:17 PM | The campaign I ran previous to this was an AU campaign and the same thought has occurred to me. I think pieces of AU could be an interesting fit into Eberron but in reality I don't think most of it has a place, at least not without modification. Obviously Magic from AU isn't a good fit at all, and I don't think classes are either. Even Monte acknowledges classes are overpowered compared to normal DnD classes and I believe he recommended they get -10% exp to compensate if you use both. Either way I'd just leave those out. I suspect what you're talking about most are races from AU and that has a few problems as well because of the class issue. If you use racial levels from AU these have the same problems with balance that classes do from it. I'm not really sure what I'd think a good solution was there. For the most part it depends on how you intend to use the AU material. If you make the options available to PCs you have all kinds of balance and rules issues. If you want to use the stuff as inspirations for NPCs and opponents, then you don't really need AU. Just use monster stats as you see fit from the MM. For my own part I'm using a giant descended race in Eberron but I'm using the Half-Giant from the Psionic Handbook, it crosses over easy enough so I don't see a need to use the AU Giant. If I were to use Mojh I would probably use them as an Argonessen based race, transformed from the barbarian human tribes there into servants of the dragons. Gnolls are already a playable race so I'm not sure you need to important ..er.. i forget their name but the canine race. without them as giant servants anyway it's not the same race so stick to gnolls. I always like the Litorian race, but for some reason I would have them come from Sarlona. Fain (sp) well that is very interesting, I'm not sure what I'd do with them and they are particularly problematic because they are a bit overpowered if you ask me. Also they rely heavily on racial levels which I spoke about above. Those are just off the top of my head. Which AU elements interested you the most and why? |
| fuindordm04-19-05, 05:59 AM | In my Eberron campaign I have one player with an AU giant character. I posted their history on these boards a few months ago--essentially, the leader of the giants, just before the Quori invasion, sent out a few boatloads of his best and brightest to take refuge in Faerie because he forsaw that the giant civilzation would crumble in a Phyrric victory but the Quori menace would return. The giants lived in Faerie for thousands of years, sending out scouts from time to time, and only now have decided that the time has come to return. The sent out a larger delegation, and asked for permission to take up residence on Thronehold as its custodians; they've also been teaching some AU classes to those who care to learn. They're there to investigate and resist the Dreaming Dark, although none of them have really acquired a target yet. Ben |
