More moony goodness! [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-09-04, 05:23 PM I counted out how many days are in each lunar cycle for each moon. Hey, I am wicked sick and can't do much else. Check it out.

Sypheros-35
Therendor-42
Rhaan- 49
Olarune-56
Eyre-63

Aryth-84
Dravago-91
Lharvion-98
Barrakas-105

Notice anything about that order? No, not that they aren't in monthly order. Yeah that one. All multiples of seven. What does it mean? Hey, ask they guy without a nyquil addled brain. Just thought I'd throw it out there.

EDIT- There.. now Olarune is 56 like it SHOULD be and that is 56/7=8. There. So unless I screwed up royally in the making of this thing (very possible) I am fine again.

11-09-04, 05:43 PM Off the top of my head, I would say they're close to multiples of 7 so it would be easy to divide the months up into weeks. As in "There are 13 weeks in this month, 3 weeks in that month, and this one has 9 weeks in it."

Nym seems to govern the calandar. It looks like the only moon that has a standard day to phase match. Nym is full starting on the last day of each month and for the first two days of the next.

:thinks: Hmmm... is this doing anything for anyone? Is it significant that they run from 4 to 15? Should we focus on Dravago and Aryth, the moons with 12 and 13?

11-10-04, 09:52 PM Well, if you subtract 3 from each so that Nymm = 4-3 = 1, the missing moon would probably be 16-3 = 13 (one past Barrakas, with an orbit of 112 days and 16 weeks)

If all the moons were full (or all the moons were new) when the Daelkyr invaded 9000 years ago, then they were also all full when the Quori began invading Sarlona 1500 years ago, and possibly were in that same configuration when the quori invaded Xen'drik some 30,000 years prior. You can truly stretch it and say the moons were in the same phase about 60,000 years before that when the couatl sacrifice occurred.

I don't know if this is affecting the calculations or not, but many of the moons are full for more than three nights.

If it helps at all, Nymm is always full on the last day and the first two days of each month. Any grand conjunctions has to be on one of those three days of the month.

11-13-04, 12:33 AM The tool hasn't been put on the site officially yet ... I released a link to the boards as a bonus to the boards patrons and to see what if any problems you guys would find ... the patrons of the boards have helped me a great deal with past projects.

11-13-04, 01:10 AM On one hand I would like the indicators for the planes to slide back and forth so they can be customized to individual campaigns, but on the other hand the tool doesn't print them out anyway and such things are all too easily written down on the handy calandar that can be printed.

The only other thing I would like is if there could be an option to print out a picture calandar type format. It would be landscaped so the moon phases would be on the top and the days would be on the bottom with lots of space to write campaign notes. This is very much a wishful thought though since I am aware that a tool like this must be a good deal of work to produce.

I can't think of anything that needs actual fixin. If there is a problem with the tool I can't find it as yet.

Thank you very much Mark for all your hard work on this! It is both useful and enlightening.

11-13-04, 09:01 PM Personally, I would find it nice to be able to move time faster (other than day by day or set day/month/year) in addition to the aforementioned ways. -- k, ignore this one, playing around with the app just now and discovered that noe can multi-click on the single arrow to speed things up. Might want to list this feature.

It also would be nice to be able to switch between days and years in the "time until coterminous" area.

The button top left under the date is superfulous and doesn't do anything to boot. ;)

Additional things I would love to see-
- a graphical representation (top down) view of the moons orbiting Eberron
- a way to inquire as to when a particular relationship will come to pass (e.g. the moons lined up)

But above and beyond everything listed above, I think that you guys did a great job with the orrery and thank you for it.
