| Crystalforged05-10-07, 02:00 AM | Well, I'll chime in for Sharn. If you ever plan on having an adventure in Sharn the book is practically a must have. It doesn't offer a whole lot for crunch but the fluff is fantastic I'd call it a good read even if youd don't use it. As for the other two books I don't have either so I really can't comment. |
| Arcane Guyver05-10-07, 02:24 AM | If you're playing a dragonmarked character, Dragonmarked is a no-brainer. If you're a DM whose going to spend most of the campaign in Khorvaire, Five Nations becomes the obvious choice. If you don't fit either camp, flip a damn coin, as both books are extremely good. |
| Adamaro2305-10-07, 02:27 AM | As far as my knowledge goes, Dragonmarked explains the houses. And Five Nations explains khorvaire? |
| Rechan05-10-07, 04:35 AM | As far as my knowledge goes, Dragonmarked explains the houses. And Five Nations explains khorvaire? Not Khorvaire, just Breland, Karnath, Thrane, Aundair, and the Mournlands. Mror Holds, Eldeen Reaches, Shadow Marches, Q'barra, Droaam, Draguun, the Wastes, and Zilargo were left off. |
| Cloud Divider05-10-07, 10:58 AM | Okay, i've got all the Eberron books except for: Sharn City of Towers, Five Nations, and Dragonmarked. It really depends what you're looking for. I don't have Dragonmarked yet, so I can't vouch for that one. I was personally fairly disappointed with Five Nations. While certain elements were interesting, those elements were fairly few and far between. As a GM, what I'm mostly after is idea-fodder, things to inspire me to base a session or campaign arc around. Unfortunately, generally speaking, there just wasn't that much that reached out and grabbed me. Sharn: City of Towers, on the other hand, is probably one of my favorite game books of all, and is definitely one of the better setting books around. It did a very good job of planting dozens of possible campaign seeds for me, and I found it to be terribly evocative of the setting. It does an excellent job of setting the tone for Eberron... So the other books in the Eberron line end up compared to the giants of the ECS and Sharn, for me... so out of these three which is more useful? I'll probably be getting Sharn last, so really what i'm asking is: Dragonmarked or Five Nations? Well, if it's really a decision between those two, I'd probably go for Dragonmarked... |
| naturax05-10-07, 01:04 PM | I found Dragonmarked completely useless to a DM. Sharn: City of Towers on the other hand has enough material to run an entire campaign, so the choice is obvious. |
| Toloran05-10-07, 02:26 PM | If you spend any sort of significant amount of time in Sharn, go with that. After that, go with Dragonmarked since it gives some nice fluff regarding how the Houses are orginized. It is better for players though. I personally didn't like Five Nations. |
| Logos705-10-07, 04:36 PM | I have all three, and Dragonmarked and Sharn are tied for my favour, that said if you aren't in sharn full time Dragonmarked will get far more use in my opinion, 5 Nations aint bad , but i've seen better logos |
