Since we're on a video game kick today, I'll chime in with my idea for adapting Morrowind's general plot to Eberron.

If you've never played the game, the main story centers around a prophecy that a person born a certain day (to uncertain parents) will be the reincarnation of an ancient Dark Elf hero named Lord Nerevar. He will smite the evil Dagoth Ur, an evil immortal trapped in a volcano, and according to some, exact his revenge on his former companions (and lover) who are now immortals and worshipped as gods.

Ok, so we have lots of parallels. Prophecy, always good, as well as signs, what with all the superstitions regarding months and the alignment of the planes. Trapped evil immortals... Daelkyr, Rajahs? And, best of all, immortals worshipped as gods = Undying Court!

So, way, way back when the elves were facing a showdown with the giants (if you're familiar with the game, this gets stranger, what with the dwemer constructs and all). One of their great leaders has managed to steal a powerful artifact (or eldritch machine) from the giants and has left it with a trusted tribal leader (Dagoth), while he goes to consult with the other heads of the elven resistance. He tells them of his plan to destroy the artifact/machine, and they greedily murder him so they can use the artifact themselves. Meanwhile, Dagoth has royally screwed up his UMD check and blasted himself into a twisted, yet powerful creature. The other three manage to use the artifact (with much better results), but have severely damaged it in the fight. They escape from Dagoth's hiding place, and use their new-found powers to defeat the giants, and become instant heroes. They begin to be worshipped, and voila, we have the first members of the Undying Court. Now, even though they don't have access to this artifact, their powers remain. Dagoth, meanwhile, bides his time, bound to the artifact, maybe gaining some drow worshipers?

So, the Valenar repeat this legend, slightly modified, believing that the return of this elven warrior of old will signal the re-establishment of an all-out war against the giants, and maybe everyone. Of course they think that he will return as an elf male and will abolish worship of the Undying Court.

So, play with this all you like. I think a hobgoblin hero would be a great twist, or even a human for that matter.

Thoughts?

Morrowind is another one of those games I haven't personally played, so thanks for putting up that conversion summary! I'm going to link you from the VGiE Master Thread; could I suggest having you edit your original post to link me back?

I have absolutely no problem with anyone setting up the threads on my list ahead of schedule... seeing as how it will take months to get through them all right now, even if I didn't get any more submissions.

Back to the topic: My question is, can this be smoothly adapted to the 4-6 PC setup standard to D&D?

Beyond just lifting the /main/ (read: one of a million) plot(s) of Morrowind for Eberron, the game has done an awesome job of developing certain areas that DnD generally ignores.

One thing in particular is the orc naming conventions. IMC, I used the orc naming conventions from Morrowind for the Dhakaani, coupled with what we know of the established Dhakaani language already. It worked out very well.

The conflicts between the tribal Dunmer and House Dunmer plays up very well too, between the Valenar & the Phiarlin/Thuranni Houses.

You could also lift the Daedra quests out of Morrowind and convert them to "ancestors" quests, with a little work.

I tried to make a complete conversion of Morrowind to D&D... after I got the races done and a few monster, I realized I was in over my head, too many things to consider when you don't have the time...

Well, that's what these threads are for, Raziel; putting the Eberron Boards thinktank to work for you!

hahaha, yeah but I scrapped the idea long ago...

As I said I did the races, but I think I only got 2-3 monsters done LOL... also I realized that the game's spells are horrible and I'd have to invent them... another thing would be weapon materials, how a glass longsword deals more damage than a iron one... etc... it got frustrating lol... so I stopped... :P

another thing would be the approach to classes... keep the core or allow people to create their own (basically) like the game...
