Edymnion 03-26-05, 12:39 AM	Nah, not about actually playing MK type characters, or putting the MK tournament into Eberron (although, come to think of it, that might be cool... nevermind). Mainly, for those that have played Mortal Kombat: Deception, ya noticed that Hotaru's alternate costume would make a good (if a bit colorful) Warforged?
Restless 03-26-05, 01:09 AM	I'm sure you'll pardon me if I'm not fully coherent at current, (And the night is still young!), but I think that is a great idea. Not sure how much of the MK story you'd want to adapt, but a tournament of Khorvaire's finest fighting to the death for something, freedom of the universe to a cash prize, works real well. Maybe is develops as a new tradition between the various factions that participated in the last war to gather each year on ther anniversery of the start of the war, each sending one or more of it's champions to battle again for supremacy. Sort of like an Eberronian Olympics. or not. Winner's nation gets a prize and of course bragging rights. I could see this becoming similar to the race of winds in Sharn, what with all the behind the scenes stuff. Of course, this deviates significantly from the MK story, but hey it's a big tournament. Besides, I can't seem to remember the MK storyline too well at current.
Charles Phipps 03-26-05, 01:10 AM	Actually, I did do a vaguely MK influenced adventure. The characters were so divergent that I decided to go with the old "Bruce Lee-invited to a tournament" origin and found out that they were actually summoned here by the Order of the Gate keepers who had discovered a Quori plot to harvest the dream energy of the most powerful hearted (thankfully statless) warriors to open a gateway to the Dream Dimension. In retrospect, this early adventure was nothing more than an Inspired with WAYYYYY too much confidence in himself but it almost worked in creating a portal with an Eldritch machine (I wonder how his bosses reacted when they found out they had an Eldritch machine that could open up a portal yet he chose such a blatant method of gathering warrior's energy)

Edymnion 03-26-05, 01:49 PM	Well, if we wanna make it a thread about how to do MK in Eberron... The Quori seek to infiltrate the world, and claim it for their own. They are indeed powerful, and those scholars that know of their existance have long wondered why they do not simply again invade by force, as they did in the age of giants. The commonly held belief amongst such scholars is that the Quori are wary after their last defeat, but nothing could be farther from the truth... Every thousand years, a tournament is held. Depending on the victor of this tournament, the Quori will either be forced back for another millenia, or be freed to invade Khovaire once more. This has already happened once before, and only the combined might of the Giants and the Dragons were able to halt the relentless tide, and only then by means of vast desperation. Since then, secret orders have existed for the purpose of training warriors, so that the next tournament would be won by a warrior from the Eberron-Realm, and the invasion postponed for another thousand years. Little known to the general population of Khovaire, but the victor of the last tournament was none other than Galifar himself, and with his victory came the thousand years of relative peace that has defined the current shape of Khovaire. However, the thousand years have come to an end, and the Last War has destroyed those heroes that would have defended the realm from the Quori. New heroes, new champions MUST be found, and they must be found soon. The secret orders still exist, and they will still send their best represenatives to the tournament, but shear volume of opposing entrants does not bode well. The odds are against us. Who shall step up, and claim their place in this mortal combat?

Edymnion 03-26-05, 07:24 PM	Or hey, maybe the Giants and Dragons couldn't fully sever the link. The Quori still have access, but the link is kept sealed for as long as Eberron keeps winning the tournament. If they should ever lose, the portal will open again, and the Quori will be free to resume full scale invasion. And, of course, they are already trying to circumvent this restriction by worming their way into the Eberronian populace. Are they doing it to try and make people forget about the tournament, so Eberron will have no represenatives in the tournament? Or are they trying to infultrate the ancient orders to get a traitor into the tournament, one that would switch sides once they got at the tournament, giving the Quori the edge?
