What do you think happend in Cyr some years ago? I think in my campaign it will be the result of a weapon that in the eyes of the five nations had a malfunction... It was a eldritch machine constructed by Cyr after analysing an old artefact from Xen'drik: The pattern from SotlW ;) (wich is a copy of the original). But Cyr didn't find it by chance... What about meeting a Quori spirit in the mournland? And what if this weapon is used to "transform" other parts of the world, e.g. Sharn!! The weapon had been taken apart by ann order of kalashtar. The pieces were brought to diffrent places and everything was written down in invisble signs on the back of the treaty of thronhold, only readable with a device hidden in the Cathedral of the Flame in Thrane...

sounds like trash... will be fun... it's Eberron (like SothW was a mix of Half-Life and Indiana Jones)

Garrow -> servant of Kaius III or Vol (want to stop the Qouri's plan)
Lady E. -> mind seeded servant of house Deneith (serving the Qouri)
Lord of the blades -> Doesn't know the qouri thing but thinks the mournland is pretty cool (might habe a pact with the qouri)
Kalashtar -> Try to stop anyone searching the weapon

All the preservation in the Mournland got me wondering, "what if the Day of Mourning was just the first stage in a much longer transformation?" What would the final results be? Would the land currently known as the Mournland become animated and proceed to tare up the rest of Eberron? How about going to phase two and the Mourn expands to cover all of Khorvaire? Maybe it turns into a pathway directly into Khyber?
There's just so many possibilities if you start with the assumption that 'nuking' Cyre was just the first step in a larger and longer process.

I'm sure the Mourning Shadows would agree with you ;)...

Fareon... sounds like you enjoyed the movie National Treasure.

But I can see how the Quori can work into this... I've yet to actually get RoE (I'm a broke college student. I'd say 'so sue me' but I can't afford it) but from what I've heard the Quori are trying to 'stabilzie' Khorvaire to slow the turning of the age or some such thing. Well... how much more 'stable' can the world get then becomming (effectively) a frozen instant in time.

Think about it... The entire area is nearly a snap shot of what was happening that day. And not even the bodies give into natural chaos and decay... definitly a LE place...

One thing that might be worth looking at is using the 'otherwhen' concept from Lords of Madness. Perhaps in an alternate 'now', the Mourning enveloped all Khorvaire, creating a race of abberrations (maybe Kaorti or Ethergaunts, depending on the level you want to deal with, or maybe both, Kaorti were normal people while Ethergaunts had dragonmarks (least - red, lesser - white, greater - black, siberys, you don't want to know)). The aberrations have realized their plane is unstable because it's too divergent from 'reality', so they've sent agents to 'fix' the world to preserve their own (even just fleeing to the real world won't help them, they are products of their otherwhen and when it collapses altogether, so do they). Some are busy trying to figure out how the mourning happened so they can replicate it, others are trying to figure out why the mourning here 'went wrong' (maybe storming a planar observatory and torturing the astronomers to find out where the planes were 4 years ago), and some are just trying to increase the points of similarity between their world and this one; our map says there isn't a village there, destroy it, our map says that hill should be shorter, enslave neighboring people to excavate it. Maps that are subtly wrong should be the first clue as to the origin of these creatures. Also, you should give an actual timeline for when the home plane actually ceases to exist; all the world has to do is outlast them. As a final bit of fun, maybe the invaders have bases in the mournlands and use warforged from their reality, causing a turf war with the Lord of Blades.

On the idea of the mournland having an effect on dragon marks, it may be fun to develop some ideas surrounding what the day of mournings effects were on any dragonshards within its vicinity. For example have they become corrupted? Are any that have been recovered warping dragonmarks they are being used in conjunction with? For example twisting house Joraco's curative properties to inflict, has one specific shard being used to influence the mark of passages teleport spell caused it to send the messenger into khyber. the reasoning for the use of these corrupt shards being that they look no different from the time of the day of mourning just like anything else within the mournland, of course the "nuking" of cyre has left the possibility of deeper scars upon the area, those most cannot see.

If it was up to me...
Cyre, coming under heavy attack, created a new eldritch machine designed for annihilating huge armies. Resembling huge cannons, the destruction they caused was widespread, covering almost 1000 feet per shot.

Unfortunately for Cyre... one day, 5 different shots were aimed at the same point.

I'm not a DM though, so I'd really have no clue.
