| Fion8108-16-06, 02:18 AM | I play in eberron and like it alot in one group, i dm a forgotten realms group, that recently had a most unfortunate TPK. We are starting up again, but they want to play Eberron, they know nothing about it. I havnt had a look at these adventures myself. But you know how the back of the campaign book contains an adventure for 1st level pcs ( a really tough adventure for first level pcs) There is the three other ones Shadows of the last war whispers of the vampires blade and grasp of the emerald claw. When we dm i design the pcs characters, they prefer me to do this believe it or not. I know how to make characters they enjoy and they feel it makes them more likely to fit with each other and the world. I have two questions. The first and most important is this. Are these adventures worth it and can u tell me how they interact. For example i noticed that vampires blade is for 4th level characters. Does this mean that the adventure in end of the campaign book does NOT immediately preceed it? Second if you were creating four characters for this adventure What race/class combos would you use. Whatever you can tell me would be highly highly useful |

Are they worth it? I think so...I am simply using them as a springboard for my own personal campaign story arc. I believe they will give you a good initial gist of the world, without overwhelming you. And for question #2. What character classes would one recomend. I think that really up to you. However I do believe that having some sort of Warforged character will enhance the overall Eberron feel, as well as the Artificer Class. I hope this helps. PS: The order in which the published adventures are run is. 1. The Forgotten Forge (ECS) Lvl 1 2. Shadows of the Last War Lvl 2 3. Whispers of a Vampires Blade Lvl 4 4. Grasp of the Emerald Claw Lvl 6 5. Voyage of the Golden Dragon Lvl 7 Hope this helps you, and best wishes with your new game. Have Fun! :) |

I recommend using the Eberron races/feats/abilties to show them that this is NOT FR. The official Adventures will also REALLY help you out. Just make sure to read any errata made for them and read ahead... I heard that some encounters in GotEC are really overpowered and will slaughter your players. |

Before DMing, make sure you read (a couple of times) the section "WHAT EVERY ADVENTURE NEEDS" in Chapter 9 of the Eberron CS. It has everything you need to get the "feel" of Eberron, where DMing Eberron departs from other campaign settings, and how to get it right. It's invaluable; probably the most useful section in the entire book for a DM. |
| Tom McCarthy08-16-06, 09:10 AM | For my first Eberron campaign, I used/am using The Forgotten Forge (ECS) Shadows of the Last War (module) Fallen Angel (Dungeon magazine) Whispers of the Vampire's Blade (module) Murder in Oakbridge (Dungeon magazine) Crypt of the Crimson Shard (Dungeon magazine) Grasp of the Emerald Claw (module) The next 4 adventures, depending on hooks they bite, might be Steel Shadows (Dungeon magazine) Chimes at Midnight (Dungeon magazine) Voyage of the Golden Dragon (module) or part 2 of Crimson Shard 3-part arc (name escapes me) (Dungeon magazine) With the exception of Queen with Burning Eyes, all the Eberron material has struck me as good, if a touch linear. To get an Eberron feel, I recommend the following 1 warforged or shifter in the group Most of the group should be war veterans As usual, someone should have trapfinding, someone can use wands of cure spells, someone can use arcane magic items, someone has a high BAB One character should have a dragonmark, but leave it up to the player how deeply or superficially he'll be part of the House; avoid aberrant dragonmarks till the players know the social implications If possible, include one of the races with the Eberron outlook (warlike Valenar elves, fierce plains halflings, socially accepted Marcher orcs or Darguul hobgoblins, sneaky and curious Zil gnomes) I would avoid the artificer class if the campaign starts at advanced levels; to learn a new, complex class works best from 1st level, I believe. |
| Bluebrush08-16-06, 09:19 AM | For party makeup, I'd go with the traditonal Fighter/Rogue/Cleric/Wizard makeup. Though maybe keep the fighter and cleric in lighter armour for greater agility. As for a good into, here's A really good one (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/m.blunden/dnd/eberron.htm) by forumgoer MarkB. |
