Here's a sample for your enjoyment: Knightrider of Doom ( rhapsody) slaying the dreamer ( nightwish) 13th warrior ( movie them song) Back to the future ( movie theme song) Conan ( theme song) March of the swordmaster ( rhapsody) Battle on the big bridge ( the black mages) Bethoven ( I've found classical music very useful for scenes involving courts an intrigue) The temple of Doom ( Indiana Jones) Anything that's Jazz or blues Hope this helps...

SiouLubb 04-04-06, 05:09 PM	I see that the soundtrack for the movie "The 13th Warrior" has already been mentioned. I recommend that as perhaps the best gaming soundtrack of all time. Having said that, here are some more recomendations. Van Helsing Soundtrack (9/10) The Mummy Soundtrack (8/10) Pirates of the Carribbean Soundtrack (8/10) Those would be the ones I'd buy if my budget was limted. After that... Conan the Destroyer Bram Stoker's Dracula James Bond soundtracks (particularly "The world is not enough") The Lord of the Rings soundtracks The Midnight Syndicate Dungeons and Dragons soundtrack Gladiator soundtrack

"Selections of" means not all the songs are suitable, so I just choose a few to use. Actual music CDs: Blind Guardian: Nightfall in Middle Earth Any Nightwish Album String Quartet Tribute to Radiohead (all three of them) String Quartet Tribute to Slayer String Quartet Tribute to NIN String Quartet Tribute to Led Zeppelin I tend not to use music with lyrics. But you can't beat Nightfall. Other miscellaneous stuff: The CD that came with S:CoT A few remixes from ocremix.org I am going to get the 13th Warrior soundtrack. That is one of my favorites movies! I hope this gives you some interesting ideas. I just put the CD player on shuffle and let it roll.
Temjinstrife 04-05-06, 03:33 PM	Artists to look for: -Apocalyptica -- electric cello metal, great for ambient/combat stuff -Rodrigo y Gabriela -- acoustic ambient/swashbuckler-y stuff -Ambeon -- the non-vocal stuff is incredible tense mood-music -Juno Reactor -- depending on the song, anything from adventuring to swashbuckling music -Metallica -- instrumentals like Orion, parts of the S&M album (with live symphony orchestra) -Savatage -- some incredible instrumentals (Prelude to Madness, The Storm) -Trans-Siberian Orchestra -- avoid the Christmas stuff, but the album Beethoven's Last Night has some excellent instrumentals -Pink Floyd -- incredible creepy ambient stuff, works really well for Call of Cthulhu too Classical artists -Beethoven's symphonies (avoid the first movement of the 5th and some parts of the 9th, as people find them too familiar and distracting) -Tchaikovsky's Pathetique Symphony -Berlioz' Fantastic Symphony (amazing game stuff) -Mahler -Haydn and Mozart for "courtly stuff" Random Soundtracks/CDs -LotR (of course) -S:CoT CD (of course) -Pirates of the Caribbean -Conan the Barbarian OST -Ronan Hardiman's Lord of the Dance (you laugh, but it works well) -13th Warrior -Aliens OST -Harry Potter/Star Wars (just avoid familiar themes)

Dracosis 04-05-06, 05:01 PM	see the finish band finntroll (http://www.finntroll.net/). they sound like polka gone wrong. its good mood music....ya'know smashing puny human mood music :D the volcals are in growled swedish and range from very savage to funny. the third album, Visor om Slutet, has alot of good synth tracks with nature sounds on them and is good for D&D background or tavern music.
ekomega 04-05-06, 11:40 PM	I forgot a few artists: Jesse Cook. Not all of his stuff is super upbeat, but the guitar music is a nice change of pace, and some of it is very appropriate. Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique is amazing. In the symphony, some heroes actually go and kill a witch who is doing weird things with dead people, among other strange things. It's perfectly DnD.

Also, it doesn't hurt that Berlioz was inspired by Wagner, whose fantasy- and mythology-based operas were the original inspiration for Conan and The Lord of the Rings. In a later movement of the same piece, Berlioz wrote himself in as an insane man going to be beheaded. If you listen closely, you can even hear the head bouncing down the stairs three times. Wagner's overtures and instrumental pieces are excellent; everyone's heard The Ride of the Valkyries, and there's plenty more good stuff where that came from. I also completely forgot Mussorgsky. He wrote A Night On Bald Mountain, Pictures At An Exhibition, and numerous others. Holst's The Planets are great as well.
