| Moebius12-31-06, 11:44 PM | I imagine the typical fantasy music is prevalent throughout Eberron. However, I think music more in our traditional classical orchestra music is also available in some of the finer cities. Are there any references to this? What do you guys think? *edit ok, so I figured out there actually is Eberron music available! My question now is- this Eberron soundtrack is different than the Official Roleplaying Soundtrack from Midnight Syndicate. Correct? |

What do you guys think? *edit ok, so I figured out there actually is Eberron music available! My question now is- this Eberron soundtrack is different than the Official Roleplaying Soundtrack from Midnight Syndicate. Correct? Yeah, the Eberron Soundtrack comes with Sharn: City of Towers. Uh, I think that the Eberron Soundtrack is supposed to be non-diagenic, meaning that it isn't actually supposed to be the music that Eberronians listen to; it's what nerds on Earth listen to as they pretend to be Eberronians. I always consider what the music of a world or culture would sound like, so here's some examples. The Talenta Plains could have Aborigine music (http://www.amazon.com/Didgeridoos-Sounds-Aborigine-Various-Artists/dp/B000003JMX/sr=1-2/qid=1167677385/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/104-1550317-3080728?ie=UTF8&s=music) from Australia or Native American chanting (http://www.amazon.com/Sacred-Spirit-Chants-Dances-Americans/dp/B000009CIO/sr=1-1/qid=1167677427/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-1550317-3080728?ie=UTF8&s=music), perhaps Tuvan throat singing (http://www.amazon.com/Tuva-Voices-Center-Various-Artists/dp/B000001DGS/sr=1-1/qid=1167677354/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-1550317-3080728?ie=UTF8&s=music) from Mongolia. The Shadow Marches, all I can imagine is Garmarna, a swedish folk music band, specifically their first album, simply titled Garmarna (http://www.amazon.com/Garmarna/dp/B00005BGKH/sr=8-5/qid=1167677316/ref=pd_bbs_sr_5/104-1550317-3080728?ie=UTF8&s=music). Karnnath might be a great place for Wagnerian Opera (http://www.amazon.com/Wagner-Orchestral-Music-Richard/dp/B00006I0AU/sr=1-4/qid=1167677482/ref=sr_1_4/104-1550317-3080728?ie=UTF8&s=music), any Russian (http://www.amazon.com/Prokofiev-Greatest-Hits-Joel-Krosnick/dp/B000002C5X/sr=1-1/qid=1167677516/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-1550317-3080728?ie=UTF8&s=music) composer (http://www.amazon.com/25-Tchaikovsky-Favorites-Pyotr-Ilyich/dp/B0000058HZ/sr=1-1/qid=1167677584/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-1550317-3080728?ie=UTF8&s=music), or chamber music (http://www.terra-arcanum.com/sierra/media/media-soundtrack.html). Xen'Drik, Juno Reactor, specifically their album Labyrinth (http://www.amazon.com/Labyrinth-Juno-Reactor/dp/B00031TXCC/sr=8-1/qid=1167677846/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-1550317-3080728?ie=UTF8&s=music), mixes tribal with techno to make for heady music that's great for being chased by giants throught the jungle. Aerenal, could have music like anything, maybe Japanese. Thrane, Gregorian chant and maybe some greek Bouzouki (http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Greek-Bouzouki-Near-Sea/dp/B000058T8H/sr=1-1/qid=1167677963/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-1550317-3080728?ie=UTF8&s=music). This is just what I whipped up off the top of my head. And we all know Daelker don't just listen to Aphex Twin (http://www.amazon.com/Drukqs-Aphex-Twin/dp/B00005QD9N/sr=1-3/qid=1167678069/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3/104-1550317-3080728?ie=UTF8&s=music), they can actually play it on their alien instruments. |

| Edymnion01-01-07, 03:01 PM | ...How exactly are the savage drow and giants getting access to the synthesizers and mixing boards you need to make techno beats?Dude, if they can build monolithic devices that can rend the fabric of reality in twain and banish entire realms of existance into exile, I think they can make a Ghost Sound item that can make more than just banjo music. :P |
| goblin_pride01-01-07, 03:57 PM | ...How exactly are the savage drow and giants getting access to the synthesizers and mixing boards you need to make techno beats? Eldritch machines, of course. |

You're right, that's not terribly diagenic. I'd go with tribal music for drow, and who knows about giants, right? |

| cancerousmango01-02-07, 08:08 AM | sorry You should be. |
| eehamburg01-02-07, 11:59 AM | I don't know why ... but when I saw the title to this thread, I thought that it might be the name of a new sourcebook that Wizards is putting out for Eberron. Think of it ... Races of Eberron, Magic of Eberron, Faiths of Eberron ... now we have the Music of Eberron.... Anyone care to guess what would be inside if it was a real sourcebook? |
| cbolt_toak01-02-07, 03:19 PM | In the sourcebook for Sharn: City of Towers, there is more professional performances of orchestra-level music. I wanted to add that Music is very powerful in Eberron, with the various Bardic Music feats new to the setting, and may be as powerful and magical as any other force of the setting. For example, one thing I found facinating was how psionics manipulates time. I used the idea and combined it with the Psionic Artificer (Magic of Eberron) to design a prestige class for a multiclass PsiArtificer/Bard that allows them access to forms of music that doesn't exist yet. I have so far used him to create the sounds of synthesizers and other modern sounds, and he's crafted a series of magical instruments (Including a Glass Guitar of the Searing, if anybody's familiar), which the party can wield together to do magical performances, whether or not they have levels in Bard (but they need ranks in Perform to get a 10 on Aid Another checks). |
