| Half_Dragon_Infernal03-07-08, 03:05 PM | I've got this idea for a campaign, but I want to see what the community thinks of it: Starts at level 1, do the whole adventure series that starts with the forge of war and takes the PC's to level 5. Minor Ghoul Infestation in the bowels of Sharn Hired by house lyrander to recover some low-tech guns that were given to some house members by drow, which then get stolen by pirates based in the Lhazaar principalities. All the while, including the stuff for Atropul from the excerpts from Elder Evils. By level 10, ghouls have taken over the lower areas of the towers in Sharn At level 13, skyway is the last bastion of humanity in Sharn Various tasks are done by the PC's for the residents of skyway, until they hit level 20. My other question is, should i get Elder Evils? |
| Shiftkitty03-08-08, 10:49 AM | Where'd the drow get the guns?* How are you linking these steps? I can see the ghouls as a running thread, but what about the others? How do they tie in together? I don't have Elder Evils, but it you want to include the stuff from it, it might be a good idea to have access to it. *I'm reallllllly interested in this, because my Eberron campaign is based in Xen'drik with a drow tribe. If these little rotters have some kind of access to firepower, yyyeeeeaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh! |
| Half_Dragon_Infernal03-08-08, 11:06 AM | It's not in a book that drow have firearms, its just i want to include it. I was thinking that the fire tribe would be the ones to own them. I'm blanking on the name though of that tribe though. The necromancer who started the ghoul plague is the one trying to summon atropul. How about that? |
| Shiftkitty03-09-08, 11:59 AM | Ah, I was wondering if I missed something regarding drow and guns. Okay, I'm running homebrew and don't have any Eberron modules, so I'll assume the series you're including are a shoo-in. What's the significance of the pirates? Are they equipping the ghouls or some other force of the BBEG? Or are they a wildcard? It sounds like you're planning some aerial ship-to-ship swashbuckling. I'd love to be a PC in one of those! The drow you're thinking of are called the Sulatar, I believe. (I'm not sure where the apostrophes, if any, go, and I haven't had my coffee yet, so I really don't care :). ) If anone was going to have firearms, I think these would be the guys. (I wonder what an artificer would put into a gun?) So step #3, how does it fit in? I like the sound so far. This one step is throwing me at the moment. |
| Half_Dragon_Infernal03-09-08, 12:29 PM | I was thinking that they would be an easy way to squeeze in some firearms. And yes, it was the Sulatar i was thinking of. And yeah, i was thinking of some swashbuckling. I was thinking that the guns would get recovered, but the pirates keep some and then copy them. Midway through the campaign, a couple break-throughs. Pirates develop rifling, cannith develops monstrous machine-guns. This would help the people in skyway help fend off the threat of flying ghouls. I already developed a table for random packs. All packs have 8 ghouls, two ghasts, and one classed ghast with 5 levels of the class. Roll 1d6, 1-3=ranger, 4-5=cleric,6=wizard. |
| Thaliost03-12-08, 07:43 PM | Several questions for you to think of. *Minor Ghoul Infestation in the bowels of Sharn Why does this happen? If some BBEG wants to summon a greater evil, he probably doesn't want to be noticed until the last minute of the ritual. But perhaps, the evil's power is so strong that he's been corrupting Eberron even without his own existance on this plane? *Hired by house lyrander to recover some low-tech guns that were given to some house members by drow, which then get stolen by pirates based in the Lhazaar principalities. This will get the PC's to travel from one end of the continent to the other. Normally I add some branch missions on their way to make the process complicated, rather than simply stating "you set off from Sharn, and arrive at the Principles after several days." *Various tasks are done by the PC's for the residents of skyway, until they hit level 20. From the view of drama, this should be the time that everything and everyone in your story has agreed on one major purpose. Though PC's may be doing various tasks, helping various people, this "variety" do need to have something in common, which will greatly help you invoke whatever emotion you've planned from your players, whether that be anger, sadness, or deep thinking. |
| deathbane03-12-08, 11:13 PM | No need to get elder evils. If you want a BBEG there are enough posters here that will help you design one. Most of the ones in the book are not that impressive. The backstories are pretty good, but the bosses themselves are not that special. If you want to have undead taking over the world you can use Orcus or some Rajah that specialized in undead. There are enough evil baddies in D&D to fit a concept of why, and how you want to take over the world that you may not need to even create one. You may want to modify things for you particular story, but most of my bad guys are modifications of existing baddies. I also have a few henchmen. |
| Half_Dragon_Infernal03-13-08, 12:04 AM | Thanks for the help guys. I was thinking that the ghouls would be to distract and provide protection for the necromancer. There would be roleplaying getting directions and combat on the way to get the guns. Thanks for the tips on that last one though Thaliost. Deathbane, I'm mostly just interested in all the stuff, I think I'm going to get Elder Evils. |
