| BOK210-16-04, 10:45 PM | I've Just started my first Eberon Campaign yesterday and I figured it would be nice to post the details here. The Players: Lead; N Male personality Warforged, Fighter3 Tritania Moonkiss; NG Female Shifter, Ranger3 Campaign background: During the final years of the Last War, a hobgoblin mercenary captain by the name of Ulrom Doomhands rose into prominence which rivaled that of Haruuc. When the war finally ended Ulrom mysteriously disappeared, but rumors had it that he had plundered and hidden a vast fortune which he would have used to challenge Haruuc. The fate of Ulrom and location of his Vault remains a mystery up to this day. The Campaign starts at Xandrar, a city in Breland, during the annual spring festival. The 2 players have yet to meet each other and are minding their own business when both of them hear screams coming from a deserted alley. They come upon 3 gnolls who are threathening a defenseless woman dressed like a beggar. Tritania tries talking with the lead gnoll but was attacked. During the melee the woman uses a potion of invisibility and escapes, but drops a small book when she took the potion from her bag. After the fight all 3 gnolls were dead and Lead was already looting their bodies while Tritania spots the book and pockets it. The City watch arrived and cornered them, The PCs were able to explain what happend and were let go with only a warning. They decided to join forces and form a party. They went to house Deneith to look for work but was turned down, later they were hired by house Tharashk to find a missing ring which belonged to a local merchant. At this point Tritania had read several pages of the book, which was actually a journal, and had figured that it belonged to a woman named Gwen who lives at the lakeside district and judging by what was written on her journal was a burglar. The 2 adventurers went down to the city's sewers in searh of the ring (the merchant said that he hid in the sewers when he was chased by robbers one night and may have lost the ring there) Tritania found a small hole and spotted the ring, but it was in the unused lower sewers and non of them could fit through the hole. They walked along the upper sewers until they found an old ladder to the lower levels and worked their way to where they spotted the ring. After collecting it they were attacked by a pair of horrid rats. The shifter was sereously damaged by the rats bites and acid attack but the warforged was able to kill both monsters. They returned the ring to the merchant and got their reward (50gp). The next day a courier informed them that Master Lane Oswall, a well known sage in Xandrar, invites them to join him at dinner in one of the cities finest eating establishments. When they arrived at the restaurant, there was a bugbear and a grumpy dwarf sitting at the bar, these two were in sharp contrat to the restaurants other much more upscale dinners. Oswall arrived a few minutes later (he looks like John Rhys-Davies), and greets the PCs. He orders the most expensive and delicious food from the menu and chatted with them. The shifter ate most of the food while Lead only tasted some of them (he spits them out). After dinner, Oswall gets down to business and informs them that he owns a small but well stocked library, and thru various contacts he has found out that the PCs may have in their possession a most valuable book. If this was the book he was searching for he would pay them 500gp for it. The players agree and shows him the journal they found, the sage leafs through it nodding his head from time to time when a loud crashed came from the bar. It seems that the bugbear had thrown the dwarf right into the huge mirror at the back of the bar counter. Most dinners attention were at the two rowdies but the PCs spotted Oswall pocket a piece of paper hidden in the journals back cover. Tritania was angered by the sage's deception and hurled herself at him wounding him with her hand Axe. Oswall, though wounded, was still able to make a run for the exit with both PCs on his tail. After a short chase the sage hid himself among the early night crowd and the players lost him. Tritania, still angry, went to the city watch to report the crime. They had convinced a guard to accompany them to Oswall's house. They were answered by the sage himself but he denied ever meeting the 2. Bec of his standing in the city and also bec there was no wound on him, the guard took the sage's side but still went with the PCs to investigate at the restaurant. Back at the restaurant, a waiter told the guard that he did saw Oswall dinning with the players and that "The Shifter there suddenly attacked Mister Oswall with an axe, but thank Boldrei, Mister Oswall was able to escape." The guard was going to arrest the 2 players but realized that Oswall earlier claimed that he had never met the 2. He told them that he was going to take his break and forget about the entire incident. The 2 players realized that the Oswall they encountered was a fake and concentrated their efforts on finding Gwen, the journals original owner. After a few hours of asking and bribing, the PC found Gwens house at the lakeside district. It was an old worn down house on stilts with a narrow wooden walkway about 70' long connecting it to land. As the players were crossing the walkway, they noticed 2 rowboats with a beggar sleeping on each one, about 10' away from either side of the walkway. Lead was able to spot a crossbow in the hands of one of the beggars and was able to react before they cold attack him but Tritania was caught offguard. 2 more opponents appeared, one from inside the old house the other blocked the players escape, both were armed with flails and wore a green flamelike claw symbol on their chainmail. Tritania shifted and jumped at the nearest archer. She was hit with a bolt in mid-air but was still able to land on the boat. She attacked with a savage combination of hacks, stabs and bites turining her foe into a bloody mess. Lead charged the opponent at front and dropped him with his greatsword. He was now able to see into the house and spotted a tall hobgoblin with 2 short-swords, obviously the leader of the group. The remaining crossbow man peppered the warforged with bolts to no effect. The opponent from the rear charged Lead, his weapon causing only sparks on warforged's body and was killed by Lead's counterattack. The hobgoblin attacked with both swords the first one missed but the second one went through Lead's shoulder, forcing the warforged to backaway. Tritania jumped back to the walkway to aid her friend, but her attacks were deflected by the Hobgoblin's twin swords. Even with the combined-attack of Tritania and Lead, the Hobgoblin was able to critically wound Tritania, almost killing her. The remaining crossbowman pulled his boat to the walkway and joined his leader with flail in hand. Lead, in a desperate act, tackled the hobgoblin pushing him into the lake, the sole remaining soldier countered but was no match for the warforged's swordmanship. The hobgoblin seeing that he had lost all his men was forced to retreat. After healing Tritania with a potion, the 2 found an unconcious Gwen tied up inside the house. They brought her to a nearby inn and paid for a room and the innkeepers silence. After the thief had recovered, she confessed that she disguised herself as Oswall in order to get her map back. She explained that she stole the map from Orak, the hobgoblin they fought earlier and a Knight of the Emerald Claw. The map, she believes leads to Ulrom's vault, but the clues are written in an ancient language that needs to be translated first for the map to be of any use. The three of them decided to look for the vault together and share any treasure they find. I ended the adventure there, sorry for such a long post and any advice or criticisim from anyone is welcomed (the first with thanks the second with a warhammer to the face :joke) :D |
| THE_VESPER10-16-04, 11:07 PM | Its funny seeing a John Rhys Davis look-a-like being chased by a Shifter an a WF, and what's more funny is that he managed to escape his pursuers considering his heft and all. This "LEAD" guy seems to be an interesting character.I hope you would post some more stories about these characters. John Rhys Davis is cool! He's no weenie! :D |
| WynnHuntr210-17-04, 03:52 PM | Not bad for a session, you got a lot accomplished and set up your meta plot by the end of it. Ive played with DMs that havent gotten anything done in more than one session and after a few we still couldnt see the big picture. Here, here on the further Adventures of Lead and Tritania! |
| BOK210-17-04, 09:47 PM | Thanks, I appreciate it. |
| THE_VESPER10-22-04, 12:18 PM | I just finished the second game session in this particular adventure, and since my DM BOK2 is too busy to post the continuation to this story, i would like to tell what happened next but I'd rather let him do it. So I'll just tell you something about LEAD. By the way LEAD is my character. LEAD (male personality neutral Warforged Fighter 4) S:17 D:15 C:15 I:13 W:12 CH: 9 Feats:Adamantine Body,Weapon Focus Greatsword,2 Weapon Fighting,Power Attack,Weapon Specialization Greatsword. Skills:Spot+4 Listen+4 Craft(armorsmithing)+10 Possesions: +1 greatsword, MW armorspikes, WF repair kit,4 pouches of caltrops LEAD (he likes to write his name in the uppercase) was first and foremost a brute fighter since he claims to hail from a gladiator ring run and managed by a wealthy hobgoblin ringmaster. Fighting came naturally for him it was what he only knew and he excelled in it.But a time came when he wondered what life had to offer outside the arena, he got kinda bored beating all his rivals day in and day out. Then opportunity presented itself in the form of a halfling adventurer named Cade who commisioned (bought) him from his hobgoblin boss to do some bodyguard duty. LEAD still didnt know how much the halfling paid his master(he didnt care anyway), he was just glad that he could leave the arena and see the outside world. He eventually finished the contract he had with th Cade and earned his freedom and is now currently seen in the company of a feisty female shifter ranger named Tritania Moonkiss and an enigmatic female human rogue(she's actually a changling) named Gwen. LEAD stands 6'10" his body laced with adamantine and armor spikes bolted at his left shoulder plate and left knee cap(a testament to his gladiator days). He wields a well balanced greatsword which he usually carries around and let the blade trail behind him and scrape the ground when he walks (he has not yet discovered what scabbards are for). He finds combat fascinating and usually takes every opportunity to test his skills on all opponents foolish enough to take him on.He fights with uncanny precision and is usually inclined to inflict devastating blows with his twohander (he was known as "gutsplitter" by the fight fans back in the pit due to his 1 strike 1 kill tendencies), which he usually follows up with a brutal knee spike hit courtesy of the armorspikes. He likes the sound of clanging metal and hates cleaning all the gore from his spikes. He just recently found out that well done roast beef tastes better than shoe leather and is curious about how much ale he could drink before he rusts.... stay tuned for more about them on upcoming BOK2 posts! |
| BOK210-22-04, 08:00 PM | Ok, heres what happened during our last session. The PCs, LEAD and Tritania agree to help Gwen (NPC) find Ulrom's Vault, The runes on their map can be translated by 2 persons, Oswall a sage who is pricey, and Orion a bard with a not so clean rep. Due to lack of funds they choose Orion. Orion studied the map, the bard decides to steal it for himself and runs down the sewers with it. The party pursues him and after a short fight vs the bard and 3 of his flunkies gets the map back. They go to Oswall instead (the sage does not remember them, his not so good at remembering people) who agrees to translate the map for a future favor. According to the map, the vault is on the mountains south of New Cyre, the party hitches a ride on Argonth(Sp?) and catches the lightning rail at Swordkeep. At New Cyre they found a guide(an old woodsman named Kobel) to take them to Grimma's Wall, the first clue on the map, but they cant leave yet bec. a storm is brewing. They had a meeting with Orgev, the prince of New Cyre, who informs them that a missing family heirloom may be at Ulrom's Vault and he's interested in buying it back at premium.the party agrees and becomes guests at the prince's mansion. The next day, Kobel tells them that a group of men kidnapped his granddaughter and will kill her if the party dont surrender the map, these men had a green flame insignia. Tritania sneaked into the kidnapper's hideout and rescued the girl, and the party had a final showdown with Orak and his emerald claw soldiers. After a long fight under a fullblown storm, only the party and Orak were left standing, the hobgoblin grapples Gwen and threatens to kill her. The PCs tries to rescue their friend but were beaten back by Orak. Orak stabs Gwen with his shortsword, critically wounding her, and runs for it. LEAD cathes up with him and decapitates him with his greatsword. Tritania uses a potion to heal Gwen and the Heroes return to town with the rescued girl, and a very grateful grandfather to greet them. :) |
| THE_VESPER10-23-04, 12:05 AM | FYI: Orak is a male hobgoblin lvl5 Fighter who fights twin sword style using shortswords. He's usually seen with a cadre of 1st level human fighters (groups of 8)who unquestioningly follow his every whim.He normally watches & stays behind the action and let his lakeys try to beat the opposition, he enters the fray only when his men are all dead or almost all dead,in our last session Orak disposed of his last surviving henchman personally(stabbing the poor fellow's spleen twice) so that he could prove that he's the resident BBEG in the encounter.LEAD didnt like what Orak did and promptly decapitated(i used 2 Action Points in that fight alone) the BBEG just to prove a point. LEAD (asking Tritania while looking at his gore splattered body after the fight w/ Orak): "...will this wash off?I hate it when fleshies leak!" :tantrum: |
| Flack Jack10-23-04, 03:50 PM | LEAD sounds charming in a sort of HK 47 kind of way. There is no doubt that LEAD is the center of this great venture ,and honestly warfoged centered quests tend to have exelent plots. Keep it up we're reading it up. |
| WynnHuntr210-23-04, 06:57 PM | Looking forward to session 3. Is there any chance that the player of Tritania will post in this thread too, the little extras about LEAD was cool, and I wouldnt mind knowing more about her. |
| THE_VESPER10-24-04, 08:05 AM | This was originally posted by BOK2! Enjoy! I've just started my Eberron campaign and I'm giving each of my players solo adventures before they finally hook up with each other. The player is a male personality warforged, fighter2. (the player has not tought of a good name for his warforged yet) He lost his memories when he was damaged while fighting in the last war, and later "woke up" with the war over and that he is now the property of a hobgoblin named Vice. Vice runs a gladiatorial arena in Darguun and forces the warforged character to fight for him. A few years later the player has built a reputation of as a fierce gladiator and is scheduled to fight in a special event versus a gnoll fighter armed with a whip and light-mace (the player wields a greatsword and has spikes on his armor). After the player won the match, he caught the attention of a halfling sorcerer who later bought him from Vice. The halfling, who is called Cade, promised to give the player his freedom if he would help him in destroying a portal located in a ruined fort. Cade, in truth an agent of the Citadel, was worried that if the goblin tribes could figure out how to work the portal, they may be able to use it to open another one located in Breland and start an invasion. When the player and Cade reached the fort, they had to battle goblin raiders, a group of zombies, and lastly a living soundburst, before they were able to find the portal. Cade used the portal to open the other one in Breland, then rigged it to explode after they entered it. The player is now in in Xandrar where he will meet the other PCs after they had their own solo adventures. LEAD making friends with a Warforged local in Argonth: "....give me THREE!" :uh-huh: |
| aizhel1510-26-04, 08:27 PM | Since THE_VESPER posted LEAD's stats here and Wynnhuntr2 requested for mine, I present to you my character Tritania Moonkiss. The Moonkiss clan is well respected in Ravenswell, a village of shifters within greenblade. And one of it's most adventurous members is the ranger Tritania. For a shifter, Tritania is friendly and can even be called jolly but she has a mean streak and can be hard headed at times. Tritania was exiled by the druidic spirit of her village when she killed a gnoll raider inside a sacred cave. The spirit told her that spilling blood within sacred ground is an ill omen that can only be prevented with the shifter's exile. Rather than bring bad fortune to her clan, Tritania accepted her punishment and left the Eldeen Reaches. Tritania likes to soften up her foes with her bow but in melee her fighting style is a fierce combination of axe and sword which she follows up with a savage bite attack when shifting. She is currently on a treasure hunt with a stoic warforged and a silvertongued human. She has recently found out that biting an ankheg is not a very pleasant experience. Tritania Moonkiss NG female shifter (longtooth), Ranger 4 Ability Scores: Str14, Dex20, Con17, Int13, Wis14, Cha11 Skills: Diplomacy+1, handle Animal+2, Hide+11, Jump+5, Knowledge nature+7, Listen+7, Move Silently+11, Search+6, Spot+7, Tumble+5 Feats: Healing Factor, Weapon finesse, Track, Endurance Equipment: MW Hand axe, MW Short sword, MW Composite Longbow Str+2, +1 Studded Leather Armor Animal Companion: Agiluz (Eagle) |
| Flack Jack10-26-04, 10:26 PM | A little question about the warforged ex-gladiator. Is his name LEAD as in the leader, or LEAD as in the element? Even if he is a leader made out of lead there is a pronouciation difference. |
| aizhel1510-26-04, 10:31 PM | lead as an element. he!he!he! :D |
| BOK210-29-04, 05:48 AM | The party, now with their guide Kobel, were treking the Seawall mountains on their way to Grimma's Wall when Agiluz (Tritania's eagle companion) spotted 3 gnolls armed with shortbows and spears. Lead moved to melee the gnolls while Tritania and Kobel used ranged attacks and Gwen maneuverd around the monsters for a sneak attack. The gnolls were no match against the combined might of the party and the last remaining monster got it's head hacked when Tritania charged it. Kobel said goodbye to the party upon reaching the wall, saying that he feared to climb the dragon marked face of the mountain. Tritania easily climbed to the top, lowering a rope for her 2 friends to use. Gwen, while standing on LEAD's shoulders grabbed the rope and made it to the top easily. But LEAD, because of the restrictions of his composite body had a difficult time climbing the wall and fell from a height of 40 ft. Finally he managed to climb the wall with the help of Tritania and Gwen. At the top of the wall they found a narrow path which lead to a maze-like cavern system. LEAD went ahead dragging his Greatsword while holding a sunrod to light the way, his 2 friends walked behind him hidding in the shadows of the rod. They eventually came upon a circular room with 4 large vases along the wall, LEAD went in while the others stayed outside. When the Warforge walked to the center of the room the vases shattered and out came 4 ghouls ready to attack. All four monsters went for LEAD leaving Tritania and Gwen free to use their bows. The party wiped the floor with the ghouls and found a few gems inside the broken vases. After the fight, the party went backed into the maze and made their way to a huge statue of a dancing bear carved on the cave's wall. They pushed the statue back and a flight of stairs leading to a lower level appeared a few feet infront of the statue. At the middle of the stairs LEAD stepped on a trap and the statue's head dropped and came crashing down the stairs. Gwen was hit but Tritania was able to dodge aside, LEAD tried to cleave the stone head with his sword but did not do enough damage, yet he still avoided getting hit. At the end of the stairs the party found a small room with a jeweled sword on the wall, 6 iron chests filled with gold, more gems and a wooden ring with a wire curled around it. Using her tracking abilities Tritania was able to find the exit of the maze and the party made it back to the top of Grimma's Wall where they decided to make camp for the night. While on watch LEAD saw 5 bugbear zombies come out of the cave, he quickly awaked his companions and prepared for the coming fight, Tritania shifted and fought off 2 of the undead monsters while Gwen picked up a burning branch from their camp fire using it on one of the zombies, LEAD was able to cut one of his opponents in two before he fell from a vicious blow from another zombie's morningstar (he stilll had damage from his fall earlier). Tritannia distracted the zombie Gwen was fighting, freeing the wounded Changeling to pump LEAD with healing potions (it took 2 CLW potions to bring his HP to 1). Tritannia had dropped 2 of the 4 monsters she was fighting when LEAD rejoined the fight, and with their combined skills finished off the last 2 zombies. Back in New Cyre Tritannia surprised everyone when she donated half of her share to build a wall around the town, this endeared her to the towns people and Prince Orgev decide to name the wall after her. Gwen announced that she is leaving the party to return to her home in Aundair, she invited her 2 friends to come visit her in Passage once in a while. LEAD had the wooden ring identified but the wizard he hired said that only the wire around the ring had magical properties. Tritania removed the wire and the ring jumped from her hands, the next moment a beautiful woman appeared before them. The woman introduced her self as Sybil a dryad that was trapped by her wizard suitor inside her own livewood ring............ :) |
| THE_VESPER10-29-04, 10:55 AM | 1. "Bring rope lot's of rope!" (he realized this after the Grima's wall incident,he had a hard time climbing and it took him a while to reach the top,he still aches from the 40 foot fall) 2. "They really taste that bad, huh?" (LEAD helping Tritania to her feet after the shifter bit a Zombie Bugbear's face off for the first time) 3. "Artificer!Artificer!Arrrgh!" (LEAD down to 1 hit point before he recieved a blow from a morningstar weilding Zombie Bugbear) 4. "That's great stuff!!Wait I feel funny...BURRRP!!" (LEAD after being revived by Gwen using 2 vials of Cure Light Wounds potion) 5. "You guys go on ahead...I'll watch the loot!" (LEAD being ....himself) 6. "Yeah, yeah you have a wall named after you! Meet you later,I guess my new Adamantine +1 flaming greatsword is 'bout ready by now" (LEAD giving Tritania the basics of good investments) |

| BOK211-14-04, 10:04 PM | For the 4rth session I ran (upon request) a slightly modified version of the Forgotten Forge, LEAD and Tritania are now level 5 and with them is Sybil dryad a NPC. The players are enjoying a restfull break from adventuring in New Cyre, thanks to the hospitality of Prince Oargev, when a messenger arrived with a scroll tube for the players. Inside the tube is a letter and 3 lightning rail tickets. The letter is from Lane Oswall, the sage the party hired back in Xandrar, he was collecting on the party's promised favor and wants them to meet him as soon as possible at Kelsa Spire in Sharn. So the party packed their belongings and said their goodbyes to the prince and their friends, and started the long walk from New Cyre to Starilaskur (none of them tought of buying a horse). On the fifth day the party finally came upon the walls of the city, and after a short inspection at the gates were allowed to enter. LEAD and Tritania wanted to buy some magic items, but don't know of any good shops in the city, so Sybil used her powers to make a male passerby "fall in love" with her and show them the way to the best magic shop in the city. Tritania purchased an enchanted mithral shirt and a magic bag while LEAD bought an enchanted adamantine Greatsword. The next day they boarded the train for Sharn and arrived at the city of towers before nightfall. It was raining heavily so Tritania called for one of the sky coaches and asked the driver to take them to Kelsa Spire. The driver seeing that the 3 had the look of country bumpkins on them, decided to circle the general area a few times so that he could charge them an extra sp. and since this was the players first time in sharn they agreed to pay not knowing that the guy tricked them. When they were about to cross the bridge to the spire the PC spotted a cloaked figure attacking a man on the bridge, They ran to the man's aid but his attacker had jumped off the bridge before they could reach him. LEAD went to check on the wounded man, while Tritania went to the side of the bridge to see if there is any sign of the attacker. She was able to dodge in time as a cloaked warforged jumped up and attacked her with a battle axe. The cloaked warforged looked at each one of them and stared hard at LEAD saying " After I spill the blood of these fleshwalkers, I'll rip your head off and bring your blasted torso back to the Lord of Blades!". Cutter immeadiately went into rage (disabling the organic limiters on her body and going on full offensive mode) she hacked at Tritania who easily ducked the barbarian's wild swing and countered with her own axe, hitting cutter's left arm. Sybil rushed with her Thinblade, scoring a minor hit on the warforged's chest, while LEAD brought up his greatsword and cleaved the opposing warforged in two. After the fight, the party recognized that the dead man is actually Oswall, they searched his body for clues on why he was murdered and kept a small satchel they found on him. At that time the guards appeared lead by a stern looking dwarf who orderd them to drop their weapons. The party was able to explain what happened and showed the dwarf Oswall's letter. The dwarf believed them but took them to the garrison so that they can give their formal statements. Outside the garrison, Tritania felt a man "bump" her, and when she tried to chase after him he was already gone. Fearing that she's just been robbed, Tritania opened her pack to see if anything is missing and was surprise to find a letter inviting them to meet at the broken anvil tavern. At the Broken Anvil, Tritania made a few friends with the local bards, hoping that they would spread her reputation across the city and make her famous. Later they met Elaydren d' Vown, who explained the situation to them. They agreed to find the lost schema for her and immeadiately went to the Dorasharn Tower. At the rats market, LEAD bought a rat-on-a-stick from Skakan and asked the goblin if he knew how to get to the E-213 valve cluster. Skakan offered to take them their for 100 sp, The party tought that this was too pricy :noway: and decide to ask someone else. They met a beggar named Joko D' iaz, who offered to lead them there for only 20sp. They happily agreed on this, and Tritannia noticed 2 shifters looking at them. Joko took the party some 3 levels down to an old door, which he declared as the valve they were looking for. He got paid 2 gp and ran happily to the nearest tavern. It did not took long for the party to figure out that thay have been tricked, so they tracked down Joko and after LEAD pinned him Tritannia gave him a harsh warning and took back the 2 gp. (Joko was later beaten up by the barkeep when he could not pay his tab.) This time the party agreed to Skakan's price and they were lead to a flight of stairs which would take them to the elusive E-213 valve cluster. At the bottom the party was ambushed by the second warforged (I named him Locke) and 2 shifters. Locke and his cronies fired range weapons on the party and tried to use the valves as a shield versus melee atks. While LEAD and Sybil made their way through the valves, Tritannia scored a critical hit on Locke which instantly killing the warforged. LEAD charged one of the shifters giving him a fatal belly wound. The last opponent dropped his bow and escaped down the tunnel. The party had little trouble with the monster in the ruins, and they were able to solve the vault puzzle with only one electrocution against them. They found the schema and a little extra treasure when they were confronted by Saber. LEAD sundered Saber's crossbow, while Tritannia fired arrows at him. LEAD found out that going one on one against Saber was not so easy when he was brought to below 10 hp with only 2 hits from saber's longsword, Luckily Sybil was able to cover his back as LEAD retreated to use his oils of repair. Tritannia dropped her bow and joined Sybil in a furious melee with Saber, Saber parried blow after blow from hand axe, short sword, bite and thinblade while maneuvering to avoid a flanking attack (he olso used up 3 oils on himself). The 3 combatants traded blows for close to a minute before Sybil punctured Sabers docent slot with her thinblade ending his service to the Lord of Blades forever. :) |
| EarthsShadow11-15-04, 03:08 AM | I really enjoyed reading these sessions and they gave me some real good ideas on what to do in my game to bring the world to life. Congrats on having a cool game, keep it up and keep posting. |
| THE_VESPER11-15-04, 11:40 AM | I was looking at the Sharn City of Towers Art Gallery and a weird thing happened... i saw LEAD and Tritania as they were looking for directions in Sharn. So for those of you who want to see our two protagonist... See...crowded street (http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/sharn_gallery/84563.jpg) LEAD is the big warforged standing beside the feisty shifter exercising her diplomacy skills on the poor Sharn citizen. Steve Prescott is a genius. :D |
| WynnHuntr211-16-04, 11:36 PM | Sweet. Are you planning on getting the Sharn book and keeping them in the city for a tick or are they moving on into the wilds again? Looking forward to #5 |
| THE_VESPER11-17-04, 11:07 AM | Are you planning on getting the Sharn book and keeping them in the city for a tick or are they moving on into the wilds again? LEAD says: "Based on what LEAD seen so far, Sharn would be a great place to adventure in, but it all depends on where the winds takes LEAD and furry shifter friend(or if our DM plans to give us some more Sharn skycoach tours). LEAD hopes to stay longer though, can't wait to get spiky hands on those pesky warforged hating fleshies." Current Stats: LEAD /male personality warforged/Neutral/Lvl 6 Fighter abilities:same Feats: add Improved Damage Reduction & Cleave Items:+1 flaming adamantine greatsword, gauntlets of ogre power,+1 ring of protection, adamantine composite armor enhanced to +1 LEAD captions: "Let me introduce you to my new Blazing Sword...oh you've already met."(LEAD chatting with Cutters severed head) "Rat meat is not that bad, just don't let it find it's way in your mouth a second time."(LEAD's opinion about the goblin Skakan's delicacies) |
| BOK211-17-04, 08:21 PM | Are you planning on getting the Sharn book and keeping them in the city for a tick or are they moving on into the wilds again? I don't have the sharn book yet, but I'm planning on running the next few sessions in sharn, or more approprietly inside, outside, under and above sharn. And after that it's back to the wilds again for LEAD and Tritania :) |
| aizhel1511-18-04, 09:56 AM | Sybil is a good companion coz she can charm a merchant and other npc. yet annoying coz the last time we had an argument about a single gold piece, she tried to charm me. Luckily, i made my save. to solve the problem, she toss the gold piece into the air and slash it into three piece. one for me, one for lead and one for her. It's a good thing it happened because I noticed that the coins were antiques. And would fetch double the value from a collector.  :allalone: |
| BOK211-20-04, 12:01 PM | Here's a short solo adventure starring Tritania Moonkiss: Tritania stepped into the crowded streets of Middle Dura, her purse 20sp heavier after winning a few rounds of darts versus a hobgoblin merc she met back at the Old Lion's pub. With a few hours to spare before she met with her friends, she decided to buy her eagle a few treats. Across the street Tritania noticed a crying shifter child, the girl was wearing an oversized old tunic, short pants and leather sandals. Tritannia tried to cheer the kid up by giving her an orange and asked her what the problem was. The girl introduced herself as Yra, an apprentice to the wizard Malcor of Bluestar. She was on her way home from picking up a wand (non-magical) her master commisioned when she noticed a troupe of halfling performers riding on dinosaurs. She stopped to look at the strange animals when one of the lizards went wild, she panicked and run from the beast not noticing that the wand fell from her pack. Yra later returned to search for her master's wand, after a few minutes she found 3 orcs toying with a familiar blue wand. She begged them to return the wand but the Orcs, thinking it magical, kicked her and left. After hearing her story, Tritannia noticed that the kid talked in an educated manner not like the way most shifters like herself do, and decided to help the kid in getting her wand back. Yra was overjoyed and lead the ranger to an old house where the bullies were staying. Tritannia told the kid to wait outside and went in. She found the orcs drinking beer and roasting skewered pig's meat. The 3 only laughed at her when she demanded that they return the wand to the kid, one even approached her and said that the wand was not the only thing she would lose if she don't leave. But Tritania did not back down and stared hard at the orc, who lost his nerve and called for the 2 others to charge the ranger. Even before the 2 unarmed orcs could get near their target, Tritania kicked the first on the groin dropping it to the floor. The second tried to grab her but she dodged away from it's drunken hug and slammed it's face into the wall. The hairs on her necked pricked, and Tritannia managed to avoid getting her head cut off as the lead orc slashed empty air with his falchion. Tritannia drew her hand axe and slammed her weapon's butt, hard into the orcs back. The orc tried to attack again but passed out from the pain. After searching the orcs' belongings (and gaining a few gp in the process) Tritannia found the missing wand. She was about to head out when a large figure blocked the doorway. The orc's Ogre boss had arrived and was not pleased to find that his boys were trashed by a single shifter. It held up it's club in 2 with hands and prepared to flatten the intruder's skull. Luckily the room was to small for such a large weapon to be used effectively, and double lucky that the Ogre wielding it was too dumb to notice. After a few rounds, the large brute was bleeding heavily from a dozen small cuts, while Tritannia suffered only a bruised shoulder (the ogre got 1 lucky hit). The Ogre made a smart move and dropped it's club in surrender.:surrender Tritania accompanied Yra back to her master, who blew his top after seeing his apprentice return so late. Malcor was about to get his whipping rod when Tritania blocked his way, the wizard screamed that all shifters were no smarter than animals and one with the intellect of a snail would know better that to cross a wizard like him. Tritania punched the wizard's fat face and knocked him out, she took Yra's hand and said "Your with my pack now, from now on call yourself Yra Moonkiss." :) |

| BOK212-08-04, 09:09 PM | The Party: Tritannia Moonkiss (NG female shifter, ranger 6) LEAD (N male personality warforged, fighter 6) Sybil (NG dryad, Swashbuckler-NPC) Yra (NG female shifter child-NPC) Krinn (N male shifter, Artificer-NPC) Note:My advance apologies for doing such a long post After finding the schema for Elaydren d'Vown, the 3 adventurer's decided to split up for a while and explore the City of Tower's, agreeing to meet at the Drunken Dragon Tavern tomorrow at noon. The next day Tritannia and Yra were the first to arrive, followed by LEAD. They decided to eat while waiting for Sybil, the 2 shifter's ordered some Aundairan fish fillet and LEAD had the most expensive item on the menu, Whale Steak (like all warforged Lead doesn't have to eat, he just likes the taste of food). Sybil arrived shortly and informed them that Argent d'Alem, her former lover and the wizard who trapped her, still lives at his mansion on Skyedge Park. She asked her 2 friends to come and help her teach d'Alem a lesson. After buying Yra a flute, a book of folktales and some nice clothes, Tritannia told her sister to wait for her at an inn. The adventurer's then rode a skycoach and went to Skyedge Park (LEAD is still looking to ring the neck of the coachdriver that duped them when they first arrived at Sharn). At the park LEAD noticed a local coffeeshop called "Skybucks" and asked Sybil if they could go there first, The dryad grudgingly agreed. After LEAD ordered an Orange-Mocha coffee and ten different flavors of waffles, they headed for the d'Alem Mansion which sits on top of a wide tower and is encased inside a dome made from magical glass. 2 armsmen bearing the colors of the City watch are on guard at the front gate and stops the party as they neared the mansion. Sybil used her charms on the guard's to let the party enter, but the guards tell them that they need a special house key to open the front gates and that the only persons that have such a key are members of the Alem family. Further more, the guards inform them that Lord Argent has been missing for some days now, and that House Cannith, which the Alem family is a member of, has ordered that no one be allowed to enter the mansion unless sanctioned by them. Sybil suggested that instead of going to House Cannith, she knows of another person who might have a housekey they could use. That person was a gnome by the name of Flynn Fudderson, Argent d'Alem's closest friend. The party taking Sybils suggestion, tracks down Fudderson who is now a proffesor at Morgrave University, they find him at one of the university's classrooms, giving a rather boring lecture on proper wand activation :teach:. After Tritannia accidentally insults a kenku student, the party asks the gnome proffesor to lend them his housekey. Since Flynn and Sybil were friends and he is also concerned about Argent's sudden disappearance, he agrees to lend them his old key if they would do something for him. Flynn presents them with a magical amulet usable only by Warforged, it's a prototype from a schema he found in Xen'drik, and should protect the warfored who uses it. The gnome gives the amulet to LEAD and asks him to "test" it for him, also Flynn's assistant, a shifter named Krinn, will accompany them to record the amulet's "effects". LEAD agrees, and since it's already dark, the party decides to enter the mansion tomorrow. While staying at the inn, LEAD decided to try the amulet by having Tritannia and Yra throw objects at him. At first LEAD was pleased with the amulet's effects as it produced an invisible shield that blocked attacks, but after a while he discovered that the shield sometimes impaired his movements and slowed him down. He quickly removed it and decided to return it to Fuddereson first thing tomorrow. Back at the University, Tritannia brought along Yra hoping to enroll her in some of the classes and LEAD returned the amulet to Fudderson reporting about it's slow inducing sideffect. The party still allowed Krinn to come with them. Back at the Mansion (the party minus Yra), Sybil once again charmed the guards and they were able to open the gate using Flynn's Key. Inside the dome is the Mansion, flanked by 2 other smaller buildings. The party decided to check the building to the left (The Servant's Quarter's), and inside they found the bloody corpse of an old woman. Tritannia examined the body and judged that it had been dead for about a week. At the other building (Guard's Quarter's) they found the corpes of three men who appeared to be houseguards. Tritannia headed outside and tried to look for the murderer's tracks but found none. They then quickly headed for the mansion but the key would not work on the front door. They circled the Mansion and found a hedge maze a few yards behind it. At the center of the maze is a fountain flanked by 2 shrubs in the shape of boars. Tritannia searched the shrub to the right and noticed that it was no ordinary plant, the 2 Topiary boars then animated and attacked the party. After a short fight where both plants were incinerated by LEAD's flaming sword, the ranger found a secret button which opened a stairwell beneath the fountain. the stairs lead to a short tunnel that connected to the mansion's basement. Inside, the party found that the mansion has been stripped of all valuables, and at the main hall is a Warforged armed with a halberd. The warforged had glowing red eyes and attacked the party on sight, it was able to wound both Tritannia and LEAD before it was finally defeated. During the fight LEAD noticed something strange about the warforged and asked Krinn to study it. The artificer removed a faintly glowing red crystal from the warforged's docent slot and used one of his infussions to repair it. With the crystal removed the warforgd no longer felt compelled to attack the party. The warforged introduced herself as Storm, she was captain of the mansion's guards, and the last thing she remember was the mansion being attacked by a group of gnolls and humans. When asked about the crystal, she tells the party that it was given by her master Lord Argent himself. Storm leads the party to her masters private chambers where they find Argent's corpse. Argent appears to have been tortured and died when his throat was cut. The party heard noises in one of the rooms cabinets and found a half naked woman hiding in a secret panel, clutched in her hand was a red cloth with a wolf 's head and double axe insignia. After calming the woman the Party learn that her name is Lyrea, the daughter of a minor noble, she was Argent's current lover and had hidden in the closet when the gnolls attacked. She had heard a soft almost whisper like voice torture Argent for close to an hour before the wizard finally broke. She did not however hear what Argent told his tormentors before he was killed. A guilt stricken Sturm, volunteered to take Lyrea home, and Krinn wanted to return to Morgrave,so the rest of the party headed to House Cannith to report the murder. At the enclave the party met with Merluna d'Cannith, a high ranking member of the house. Merluna told them that she could have them jailed for tresspassing at the mansion, but would let the offense slip since they reported what happened. Further more she would like to hire them to investigating Argent's murder. The party agrees and is told to return to the mansion and find Argent's secret ledger, once they find it they should bring it back to Merluna, and to her only. Outside the enclave the party received a curious invite from their old employer, Elaydren d'Vown, who asks to meet them immeadiately at the Broken Anvil, The party decides to meet with Elaydren before returning to the mansion. Inside the the Anvil's private room, Elaydren offers them more gold if they would give her Argent's ledger instead. After a short discussion the party decided to follow their guts and give Elaydren the ledger. Back at the mansion, the party manages to find the ledger with little trouble. Tritania intrigued by all the backstabbing happening at House Cannith decides to read the contents of the ledger. She found 3 letters which gave proof that Merluna was giving information about the activities of Baron Merrix, to Argent who was secretly aligned with a High ranking Cannith noble operating outside of Sharn. They return to the Broken Anvil and gave the letters to Elaydren. The party decided to spend their reward on buying a house, and since Yra had been accepted at Morgrave (studying ancient korvairan culture), they bought 2 houses in Ivy Towers which they plan to convert into a single house. After a 2 days Tritannia read from the Sharn Inquisitive that Merluna had been implicated in the murder of Argent d'Alem and his staff. She decided to tell the party about it when they meet at Tavern. Outside the tavern, the party noticed a group of gnolls who bear the same wolf and axe insignia they found at the mansion. They decide to follow the group which lead them to a run down tavern in Callestan. Inside, Tritannia learned from the barkeep that the gnolls are members of the Red Fang merceneries. She decided to confronted the gnolls while LEAD and Sybil guard the exit. The gnolls not liking the shifter's question's reached for their axes and attacked. three gnolls wounded tritannia before she could react, the head gnoll charged LEAD while Sybil kept the remaining two busy. After a short fight the tavern's floor was drenched with the dead gnolls blood. LEAD searched the bodies and found a masterwork dagger in the leaders possesson. Sybil recognizes the dagger and tells the PC to follow her. She brings them to a nobles tower in Crystal Bridge, owned by one of her former adventuring partner. The butler, Jeeves, was pleasantly surprised to see the dryad and let them in.Jeeves told Sybil that her friend, the half-elf wizard E'learne d'Lynarc, has been dead for 3 years and his son Aulderic d'Lynarc is now master of the house. By this time LEAD and Tritannia is beginning to wonder what other secrets their dryad friend is keeping from them. Aulderic arrived half an hour later, he was a half-elf in his early twenties, LEAD noticed that he looked rather worried. After greeting each other Sybil asked the young noble if he still has his "Father's Key", Aulderic broke down and told the party that he was being blackmailed by a group called the Red Fangs for his Father's Key. It was then that Sybil decided to, let the party in on her secret. 30 years ago Sybil was a member of an Adventuring group, called The Wyvern Riders, That found a mysterious Metal Box in Xen'drik. On board a ship bound for sharn, the group's rogue was finally able to open the box and found a single shard of bone inside. This bone shard emitted a wave of energy that put everyone on board, including the Wyvern Riders, into a killing frenzy. After much bloodshed the dwarf paladin, Stark, was able to overcome his frenzy and close the box. Only the Wyvern Riders were left alive on the ship, everyone else has been slaughtered. Guilt stricken for causing the deaths of so many, they decided to hide the relic so no one could use it. The wizard E'learne crafted a magical chest to hold the box, Xerkel the rogue installed a deadly trap on the Chest while Sybil came up with a magical riddle to guard it. It was up to Stark to hide the relic and he sailed away to a location only he knew of. That was the last time Sybil saw her dwaf friend. Sybil told the PCs that the dagger they found belonged to Stark and that she was sure that he had it on him when he left. She also tells them that she had accidentally told Argent the answer to her riddle when they were still lovers. Sybil fears that the Redfangs real motive is to find the relic. The PCs agreed to help Aulderic and guard him when he goes to meet with the blackmailers. The party and Aulderic, headed for the blackmailers meeting place, a group of ruins called the Burning Pits. They encountered a bunch of gnolls at the entrance who told them to follow the red arrows to find the groups base. While walking the ruins, the floor under Aulderic and Tritannia collapsed and the noble fell twenty feet to a lower lever. The party spotted 3 gnolls drag Aulderic away, and they hurriedly climbed down the hole to chase after the merceneries. Following the gnolls, the Party found a large chamber with a metal door at the farend, 2 Skullcrusher Ogres stood guard on the door. LEAD and Sybil faught the Ogres at the middle of the chamber while Tritannia used her bow. LEAD traded blow for blow with the ogre and was hit a few times before he fell his opponent, Tritannia shot and hit the other ogre on the throat and Sybil finished off the critically wounded monster. After the battle, the metal doors opened to another large chamber, this one was filled with scores of fully armed gnolls and humans and at the center is a heavilyl muscled Flind holding Aulderic's throat. The flind told the party to enter and when they were pass the doors, it closed by itself and the party saw a hooded figure behind them, the Red Fangs master. The master removed his hood, he was a half elf with his left ear torn off and a scar for a face. Tritannia asked him an insulting question and the party was stunned by an invisible wave of force. The master walked among the helpless adventurer's communicating to them via telepathy. He told the adventurers that they will find the missing relic for him and if they refuse his men will kill Aulderic. The party seeing that they were clearly at a disadvantage could not help but agree and find the Wyvern's Bones....:) |

| THE_VESPER12-09-04, 10:40 AM | for how many hours are you playing?? You seem to accomplish a lot of things, in a "short" time An average session starts at about 12 NN and we finish by 6PM, though we had one that lasted until 10 PM, but that was a long time ago when we had more players. The session seems long because BOK2 (our DM) weaves quite an engaging story methinks. :D |
| WynnHuntr212-09-04, 02:14 PM | WOW Session 5 was the best so far. Adventure, Intrigue, and a mystery, S'all good. I love it when a DM has backstory for the NPC's in the group, though not when it ends up screwing things up. Was the Red Fang leader an Illithid?!? You didnt say...hmmmm. Ill be waiting for session 6 |

| BOK212-15-04, 01:23 PM | The Party: Tritannia Moonkiss (NG female shifter, ranger 6) LEAD (N male personality warforged, fighter 6) Ricochet Maikagi (CG male elf, rogue 4) Thaulverne Brinehands (N male gnome, cleric2/illusionist2) Sharlane (CG half-elf, rogue2/sorcerer4) Sybil (NG dryad, Swashbuckler-NPC) Bazz (CN elf, fighter/sorcerer-NPC) The party has agreed to recover the missing relics in exchange for Aulderics life. The Red Fang Master told them that Stark's dagger was found by an elven pirate named Bazz, they should go to Port Krall and find the said pirate. Since Bazz was the one who found the dagger he may have knowledge of the relics location. It is up to the party to find a ship for the voyage to Port Krall and upon doing so they are to contact Berrick, the Master's Flind Lietenant, at the Wolf and Hare Tavern. After leaving the Burning Pits, The Party decided to head back to Lynarc Tower, there they tell Jeeves about his master's kidnapping and that they have a plan for rescuing him. The distraught butler thanked the party and offered any assistance he is able to give them, he also introduced the 3 adventurer's to Aulderic's friends, who were right now waiting at the tower's parlor room. The newcomers were: the elf Ricohet Maikagi a good natured rogue, the gnome Thaulverne Brinehands an illusionist and acolyte of the Host and the Half-elf Sharlane a sorcerer with a shady past. These three new adventurers were friends of Aulderic Lynarc and had come to visit the young noble which they had not seen for months. After a brief introduction (Thaulverne tried to get everyone to shake his "briney hands") and assesment of the situation these three decided to join Tritannia, LEAD and Sybil's party. After leaving Yra under the care of Jevees, The party headed down to Cliffside in search of a shipcaptain willing to take them to Port Krall. Sharlane approached a sailor, puking at an alleyway and asked if he knew of any available ships. The drunk sailor, thinking hes a match for a party of 6 fully armed adventurers, told Sharlane to get the heck out of his face. Sybil smiled at him but he was to drunk to notice her charms, LEAD stepped up and was about to squish the sailor's head, when Tritannia stopped him and offered a more diplomatic solution. The shifter held up a few silvers and asked the sailor again. The sailor grabbed the coins and told the party that a Captain Raduu Daggerheart may be able to help them and pointed at a local tavern called "The Cutlass". Before they entered the Cutlass, Taulverne decided to ask a trio of gnomes about the local area, he learned that the "Wolf and Hare" can be found at Cantrell but not much else. While the gnomes were talking, Sharlane decided to palm a few coins from a sailor sleeping near the Cutlass' front door. The half elf fished 4 sp and decided to share it with Ricochet but the elf declined (there is a rumor that they share the same father - a rumor that Ricochet flatly denies while Sharlane just laughs out loud when he hears about it). Inside the Tavern, they met with Capt'n Radu, a rather well groomed gnoll with pearly with fangs, They learned from the Capt'n, that Port Krall is an independent port-town in an island just north of Shargon's Teeth and is a common stop for ships coming from Sharn to Xen'drik and vice-versa. After a bit of haggling (Sharlane treated everyone to a round of ale) they agreed on a price of 90gp per head and they were to meet at the docks in two days. LEAD decided to hire a courier and sent a message to Berrick at the Wolf and Hare Tavern, while the others geared up for sea travel. When the day of their departure came, the party was met at the docks by Berrick and 10 of his human soldiers. The Flind told them that they were there to ensure that the party find the relics and that they don't renegade on their deal. Again the party had no choice but to accept the Red Fangs terms. While on board the ship the party learned from the crew that the pirate Bazz was once a heir of House Thurrani and was exiled from that house due to an unknown incident, he now lives as a pirate and was once a corsair under the employ of the Brelish navy. It was their sixth day out at sea and Ricochet was heading to the ship's deck when he heard voices coming from Berrick's cabin. Now, the elf knew that the Flind did not allow anyone to enter his cabin and even his own soldiers slept at the cargo hold, so he tip-toed closer and placed his pointy ears on the door. He could hear the Flind talking to someone but could not makeout his words, so he returned to his own cabin and told the rest of the party what he heard. Tritannia already expecting to be betrayed by the Red Fangs decided to do some evesdropping of her own. When Tritannia spied upon the door, the converation inside the room was at an end and she was only able to hear Berrick say "... yes my Master.", The shifter quickly peeped through the door's keyhole and saw the Flind kneeling before the hooded figure of a scared half-elf. When she saw that the Flind was about to exit the cabin, she silently returned to her partymates and told them what she heard and saw. As a whole the party decided that they needed to investigate Berrick's cabin and find out if the Red Fang Master is really onboard the ship. LEAD and Tritannia went up the deck, they were to signal Thaulverne ,who was posted outside the cabin door, when Berrick is about to return to his cabin. It was Ricochet's job to enter the cabin and search for any clues. (Sharlane decided to just climb the ships crowsnest and watch the waters for any trouble). After his third try at the door's lock, Ricochet was able to finally unlock it and enter the cabin. The small room was a mess, filled with broken furniture and piles of used clothing. The elf made a quick search and found a small iron chest under the bed, he tucked it under his arm and returned to their own cabin. The players had one problem, sooner or later the flind will notice that the box (which they found out contained only coins and some gems) was gone and would most likely blame the PCs. Thaulverne solved this by casting an illusion of one of Berrick's guards running off with the box towards the cargo hold.. When the flind saw this he immeadiately gave chase and returned with one of his soldiers, who's face was a bloddy pulp, and unceremoniously threw the wailing soldier overboard. During the night, the ship was hit by a powerful storm, so the party decided to go and help the sailors on deck in manning the ship (except for Ricochet who taught it was a good idea to raid the ships pantry). LEAD and Sharlane were immeadiatly knocked down by the powerful winds while Tritannia was able to hang on to the ships railings. Thaulverne got the worst of it and was blown to the ships mast, and was again blown away when he tried to rise up, this time he hit the ships front railing. Luckily Tritannia was there and was able to grab the gnome before he was blown overboard. LEAD managed to pull himself up and helped the crew while Sharlane grabhold of the ship's mast and decide to stay there till the storm passed. The next day, while the crew were repairing the damage to the ship, Tritannia saw numerous underwater forms heading fast for the ship. She called Capt'n Raduu who told his crew to arm themselves, it seems like a group of sahuagin marauders have targeted their ship. What followed was a bloody battle as the Party together with the ship's crew and Berrick's soldiers faught off the ravenous sahuagin. Tritannia and LEAD was able to hold their own, felling most of the monsters while suffering only minor hits. Sharlane climbed the crows nest and cast an obscuring mist on the approaching monsters, slowing them down. Ricochet kept his distance and used his bow to aid the ship's crew in fighting the monsters while Thaulverne cast illusions after illusions to befuddle the attacking sahuagin and used his clerical gifts to cure his wounded allies. At the end of the battle, the ship's deck was covered with blood, fortunately most of it were sahuagins. The new party have survived their first major battle and after another eight days of sailing they have finally reached Port Krall. The party immeadiately went to the town's numerous taverns in search for Bazz. But what they found out dismayed them. One of the sailors told them that Bazz was arrested just this morning, the elf was found sleeping with the Lord Mayor's daughter and will be hanged tomorrow. At the town garrison the party, thanks to Sybil's charms, were able to convince the half-orc guard to let them see Bazz, but the half orc would only allow one of them to see the elven pirate. They decided that it was best to let Tritannia speak with Bazz, so the shifter went to the prison cells and was finally able to meet with Bazz. The roguish elf had blonde hair and wore a beautiful red captain's coat. Suprisingly the Elf refused the party's help and told Tritannia to go away. That night the party decided to rescue/kidnap Bazz, they went to the garrison and found all the guards there sleeping soundidly. They went down the prison and found Bazz's cell empty. They also found an open trapdoor in the prison's storage room. Bellow the trapdoor was a long tunnel and at the end of it was Bazz studying a rune covered door. They confronted the elf who told them that it was really his plan to get caught so he could go to prison and loot the ruins rumored to lie beneath it. Bazz had no plans to share any treasures he finds with the PC's but Thaulverne reminded him that they could always wake the guards upstairs, ,and the elf reluctantly agreed (40% for him 60% for the party). Upon opening the rune-door the adventurers entered a large chamber lined with pillars at both sides and with a sarcophagus at the far end. When the party tried to approach the sarcophagus, 6 zombies with puss covered wounds and long tentacles growing from their torsos attacked from the shadows. The party attacked the group of undead mercilessly but even with their superior numbers were no match for such mighty foes, Bazz suggested a tactical retreat and the party taught it was better to run and fight for day... :) |
| Rinna12-15-04, 02:05 PM | Ooo, things are starting to really heat up, aren't they? Love ocean events. Intregue on the sea! Raging storms! Need more pirates. ;) Always love the addition of a gnome. (why do I love the short races?) As always, you keep me interested. Looking forward to the next session! Rinna |

| BOK212-21-04, 07:44 PM | If you do manage to visit our beautiful islands soon, you would be most welcomed at our gaming table... just dont expect to be served lumpia, I have a strict rule of keeping such oily foods as far away from my books as possible. You are welcome to eat as much lumpia with us during breaks and after the session ... :) |
| BOK212-21-04, 09:45 PM | Note: this was our shortest session ever, we started at about 3pm and ended it at 6pm. Sorry about the lenght of this post (again), I sort of got carried away making it. :) The Party: Tritania Moonkiss (NG female shifter, ranger 6/weretouched master 1) LEAD (N male personality warforged, fighter 7) Ricochet Markagi (CG male elf, rogue 5) Thaulvern Brinehand (N male gnome, cleric2/illusionist3) Sybil (NG dryad, Swashbuckler-NPC) Bazz (CN elf, fighter/sorcerer-NPC) It was almost midnight and the party was trying their best to blend-in with the crowd as they walked the dark streets of Port Krall. Earlier, they had escaped from the undreground tomb beneath the garrison, it's undead guardians much stronger than they had expected. Vowing to conquer the tomb when they are more experienced, the party returned to Capt'n Raduu's ship (Sharkdancer) to heal their wounds and plan for their true mission -to find the relics and rescue Aulderic Lynarc. The elven Pirate, Bazz, told them that he found the dagger at a remote island to the east, the dagger was in a vault that could only be opened by placing sunstones on top of 2 pedestals located at different spots on the island. The next day, the party prepared their spells and restocked their provisions while Ricochet and LEAD found a merchant selling dragonshards and bought two fist-size sunstones. The Sharkdancer sailed to the east at topspeed, it's destination, an island only Bazz knows about. For days the sailing ship's crew saw nothing but endless waters on all sides -until the night of their 14th day at sea, their ship has entered an area blanketed in thick fog. Bazz guided the ship, evading jagged reefs that would have sunk the Sharkdancer, until they saw a verdant island appearing like a ghost from the fog's embrace. The Party boarded a rowboat and sailed to the islands small beach, Bazz drew a rough sketch of the island on the sand and marked the location of the two pedestals; the first was at an islet to the east of the beach, the second was on top of the cliffs on the island's western side. The party must seperate into two groups as the sunstones must be placed on the pedestals at the same time and before sunrise -LEAD, Thaulvern and Sybil will use the row boat and go to the islet while Tritania, Ricochet and Bazz will climb the cliffs to the second pedestal. they decided to use sunrods and Tritania's eagle companion (Aguiluz) to signal each other when each group was ready to place the sunstones. As they were about to leave, two rowboats manned by Berrick and his soldiers landed on the beach. The flind told them that he and his soldier's will be making camp and will be waiting for them to find the relics. Team One: LEAD, Thaulvern and Sybil While the warforged rowed their small boat to the islet to the east, Thaulvern rode shotgun and Sybil kept watch at the rear. It's a good thing the gnome had clear eyes, for when they were about only fifty feet from the islet, he was the only one able to notice a formless "watery" creature, moving beneath the waves. Thaulvern quickly warned his partymates about the creature, and while the two warriors readied their weapons, the gnome conjured four magical lights that danced to the boats four corners. The adventurers waited, weapons and spells at the ready, for the creature to attack -but the creature stopped when it came ten feet from them, it's formless body began spinning at amazing speeds creating a vortex. The small boat was quickly engulfed and all three adventurers were thrown to the water. LEAD and Sybil were able to fight against the pull but poor Thaulvern was sucked into it, his small body was pummelled by the force of the vortex. Not wanting a watery grave, Thaulvern called upon all the reserved might stored inside his little body and managed to escape. He swam for the islet with only one thought in his head "At land I can use my spells, at land I have a chance!" And with grim determination the white haired gnome reached the islet, panting for breath, he looked back and was relieved that Sybil had also made it to the shore. But where was LEAD... LEAD was currently beneath the waters, his adamantine-laced body was too heavy for swimming so he decided to fight the creature on the sea's floor. But fighting underwater was new to the warforged, he swung his greatsword clumsily as he was pulled into the vortex. LEAD was now fighting for his life -he can feel his body being ripped by the sheer power of the creature- if he did not escape, then this will be his last fight. But the vortex was stronger and it was not about to let another victim escape, it whirled faster and it began to feel the small metallic man break in it's grasp... The it stopped, the creature heard a loud roar -or was it a wail, comimg from behind. "There was another intruder" it thought to itself and it loossened it's grip on the warforged. Thaulvern sighed with relief, his spell had worked, he was able to distract the creature -a water elemental if he remembered his lessons right, and even now he can see LEAD's metallic form begin to walk to the islet. The gnome held-on to the pedestal near the center of the islet for support, and watched as Sybil made a fighting stance with her thinblade, the warforged had finally made it to the island but right behind him was the water elemental. The creature had fully surfaced, it's body was a towering wave of water with two watery appendages swinging from it's sides. The water elemental slammed into the islet, one of it's "fists" connecting cleanly to LEAD's abdomen. The warforged ignored the pain and swinged his flaming sword into an overhead arc burning the monster's arm -the same one that hit him, and using his weapon's momentum he took a quick step and performed a perfect "mail-splitter " combination hitting the elemental for a second time. "Not so tough on land are you!" the warforged roared. Sybil had evaded the monster's initial assault and was scoring numerous minor hits on the elemental's body. The dryad was bearly able to duck aside, as one of the monster's fists almost knocked her head off, when she saw two white quills streaking purple ink fly towards the elemental, exploding into purple colored sparks. Behind her she saw Thaulvern lower his still glowing right hand, the gnome had launched the two "magical missles" and was even now fishing in his pouch -readying another spell. The water elemental was weakening, loosing contact with it's native element has deminished much of it's powers, but it still faught -ignoring the fact that it was "bleeding" sea water. LEAD was not unaware of this and he continued to press the attack. He and Sybil scored more hits even as Thaulvern placed a glowing hand on LEAD, casting a prayer of shielding on the warforged. The water elemental faught on desperately, with no taughts of retreat on it's mind, it battered the two warrior's with it's fist, knocking Sybil off her feet. The elemental was about to finish of the dryad when it felt it's arms go heavy, it was having difficulty moving and it could sense that it's liquid body was loosing it's form.... it then noticed the flaming sword buried deep in it's body, and with one final cry it exploded, showering the the trio of adventurer's with sea water. They had survived their encounter with the elemental and after a short rest, LEAD dived to the sea and retrieved their still funtional rowboat while Thaulvern found a magical necklace half-buried in the rock, they were now ready to signal their other companions. Team Two: Tritania, Ricochet and Bazz The second grouped walked the island's western shore for an hour until they reached the bottom of the cliffs where the second pedestal was located, Bazz had told them that climbing the cliffwall was faster compared to navigating the islands dense jungles in hopes of reaching the pedestal at the cliff's top. The wall was approximately 60 high and was no problem to two experienced climbers like Tritania and Ricochet, still they decided to use a rope to make their ascent easier. Bazz drunk a potion and his two companion's were surprised to see him float of the ground. The pirate took the rope from Tritania and levitated to the cliffs top, tying it to a protuding rock. Tritania tested the rope with a few pulls and immeadiately started to climb. Ricochet slung his longbow on his back and hurriedly followed the shifter up the wall. They reached the top in no time and saw Bazz already inspecting the pedestal. The pirate told the two, that on his way up he spotted a small cave on the cliff's wall, it's entrance was littered with small bones and may be the lair of some creature. Tritania and Ricochet decided to explore the cave after they were done with the pedestal when thay heard a loud shriek coming from above. A harpy, armed with a longspear had spotted them and was on a dive -spearpoint first- straight for Tritania. The Shifter rolled aside but still received a cut on her leg, she came up with her longbow ready and fired two volleys at the flying monster. The first arrow was a clean hit but the second was short. Ricochet, with one fluid motion, unslung his bow and fired an arrow at the harpy while Bazz launched two golden orbs from his hand, the three missles found their mark as the Harpy wheeled away.... It was now facing the cliff's wall when it began to use it's dreaded song. As revulting as the Harpy's form was, it's song was a captivating melody capable of seducing the cruelest of hearts. The party was overwhelmed with emotions of longing and love for the monster, and it took every once of willpower for Tritania and Bazz to fight off the song's charm. But Ricochet's will was not as strong as his friend's, he was completely captivated by the song and in his eyes the harpy had transformed into a vision of pure beauty... a dazzling elven maid -the girl of his dreams- flying on silver wings, was calling to him wanting his embrace.... The charmed elf noticed too late that he had walked of the cliff and was now plummeting to his doom. The effects of the charm completely broken, Ricochet was frantically thinking of someway to break his fall -he quickly noticed the rope which was only an armslength away from him. Sommoning every ounce of training he received in acrobatics and with a little luck, he managed to grab the rope and save his life. Bazz seeing his only elven companion fall off the cliff, came to Ricochet's rescue. The pirate was relieved to find that the rogue had some how used the rope to break his fall. Tritania fired her bow once again, trying to keep the harpy's attention away from the two elves, she scored another hit on the monster who was now looking much larger and well muscled than it did a while ago. The raging harpy dived at the shifter - her spearpoint hitting Tritania clean on the shoulder, the harpy landed and was ready for some melee action. Tritania dropped her bow and let her feral instincts loosed, she grew sharp fangs and wicked claws and jumped into the spear-wielding harpy. When Ricochet finally reached the top of the cliff, he and Bazz saw the harpy going one-on-one with their shifter companion, both combatants were heavily wounded and were bleeding badly but neither one were backing away from each other. The rogue picked-up his bow, which he dropped while charmed, and shot at the harpy. The arrow flew with trained precision and buried itself on the monsters stomach. Still the monster faught on, it did not even stop when it was hit by another barrage of Bazz'z golden orbs. But tritania was a ranger, trained to smell the scent of the coming kill - and that scent was coming from the harpy. The shifter dodged pass the harpy's waiting spear and raked her claws into the monster's eyes, blinding it with it's own blood as her other claw cutted another wound on the monster's stomach. The harpy cried out in pain, but no sound came from her mouth... The shifter had buried her fangs deep ito her neck crushing her throat. And very much like a tiger, Tritania never softened her fangs grip, not until the life faded from the harpy's eyes. After the battle Tritania went to the small cave, while Ricochet readied the sunstone. Inside the cave tritania found a small hoard of coins and gems and as she was about to return and share the treasure with the two elves, she heard her eagles cry... signaling that the two pedestals have been activated. Into the Jungle: The adventurers reunited on the beach, where bazz told them that the Vault's main doors would only stay open for 24 hours. They made camp there while Thaulvern used his spells and Tritania her wand to heal the party's wounds. (also earlier, Thaulvern had LEAD and Sybil sign a document not to use the magic necklace thay found -it was a necklace of fireballs -until it was absolutely necessary). The next day, after preparing any needed provisions and spells the party headed for the vault at the center of the jungle island. To ensure that they reach the vault on time, Bazz asked tritania to take the lead so she could use her ranger skills in finding a faster route for the party. The shifter readily agreed and went up front as she guided her companions through the dense jungle. The party had come a good distance through the jungle when they noticed two massive four-armed gorillas come charging from the trees. Tritania immeadiately shifted and moved to block the first girallon, biting the monster's shoulder while Sybil intercepted the second monster who was circling the party. The first girallon, enraged by the shifter's bite, attacked tritania with it's four claws. The shifter was hit three times, the last one ripped her chain armor and tore a masive wound on her stomach. she went down and was dying on the junghle floor. Ricochet plucked a potion from his potionbelt, and quickly used it on Tritania. The shifter's stomach wound was begining to heal but she was still unconcious and would not be able to rejoin the fight. Ricochet stepped backed and drew his bow taking aim at the hulking monster even as LEAD moved in to protect Tritania. Sybil met the second girallon with a flurry of stabs -designed to fool her opponent's defenses, she scored a deep wound on the monsters side. But the monster would not go down so easily, it hit the dryad twice and raked her with it's claws. Sybil went down, badly wounded she reached for a nearby tree and "dimensioned doored" to safety. Thaulvern seeing that the dryad was now a safe distance away, fired a duo of magic quills at the girallon. The monster only stumped it's chest at Thaulvern in defiance and used it's upper arms to grab a low branch as it dodged a fiery ray from Bazz. LEAD and Ricochet was faring better with the first girallon, with the warforged's greatsword and the rogue supporting him with his bow -LEAD was able to kill the monster with only minor damage to himself. The gnome, figuring out that he had no spells that could fell the remaining girallon in one casting, conjured a mass of webs that trapped the monster in its sticky strands. But the girallon proved to be too stong even for his spell, the monster began to tear his way out of the webs. But the party was ready for it, as LEAD prepared to charge the girallon as it exited the web, Ricochet knocked an arrow and Bazz was already casting spell. The monster made it's way out of the web, stumping it's chest in triumpht. It was greeted by another fiery ray which seared it's flanks and was hit by the charging warforged's flaming sword. Before it could recover from it's burning wounds, the girallon was struck by Ricochet's arrow - the shaft entered the monster's neck and passed through the back of it's head, the four-armed gorilla was dead before it even hit the ground. The party healed their wounded and continued on their journey. All had but one tought on their minds "what other dangers does this jungle have in-store for us..." Well that's the last update for this year. All of us will be busy preparing for Christmas. From Tritania, LEAD, Ricochet, Thaulvern and myself Happy Holidays to everyone!!! :) |
| Rinna12-22-04, 10:10 AM | Yeah! Everyone was amazing in this session. It may have been short, but everyone was wicked awesome, totally kickin' butt. I was a little worried about LEAD, but thankfully Thaulvern and Sybil were there. (Yeah, gnomie! ....And I say that with the utmost respect.) also earlier, Thaulvern had LEAD and Sybil sign a document not to use the magic necklace thay found -it was a necklace of fireballs -until it was absolutely necessary. Heh heh. Gotta love gnomes. (I've a soft spot for gnomes.) Rinna |
| THE_VESPER12-23-04, 09:24 AM | Just chiming in with the masses: great campaign and wonderful players. LEAD kills me. ("Aww man, I'm all out of ogre!") I've nearly fallen out of my chair twice. the_vesper: I’m kind of fond of LEAD (the party’s warforged *killing machine*) myself. :D Were I in the P.I., I'd love to be in on that campaign ... if for no other reason than to munch on loompia (sp?) whilst gaming. Keep it up, and keep up the updates! the_vesper: Dude, I game with these folks for no other reason than to munch *loompia*! (BOK2 arches an eyebrow and tries to hit me with a 20 sided dice, I was going to run away, but fortunately the dice came up showing a measly *1*!) FYI: *loompia* or lumpia – a popular viand in the Philippines that consists of sauteed and seasoned: mung bean sprouts, carrot strips, bamboo shoot strips (optional), minced meat (I prefer pork), wrapped and rolled inside an egg crepe into a cigar-like shape, after which it’s deep fried until golden brown and crispy. Usually dipped in sweet peanut sauce or vinegar with hot peppers. (rumor has it, that the Talenta halfling forebears had their own version of this particular recipe, the only difference is that they used minced “dino” instead of pork. To us dinosaurs are *terrible lizards*, to the halflings they are sometimes called *edible lizards*.) :P |

| BOK201-09-05, 03:38 AM | The Party: Tritania Moonkiss (NG female shifter, ranger 6/weretouched master 1) LEAD (N male personality warforged, fighter 7) Ricochet Markagi (CG male elf, rogue 5/wizard 1) Thaulvern Brinehand (N male gnome, cleric3/illusionist3) Sybil (NG dryad, swashbuckler-NPC) Bazz (CN elf, fighter/sorcerer-NPC) The party was on the move again, after using Tritania's wand to heal their wounded, they were heading deeper into the jungle. The shifter was once again up-front, hacking the dense undergrowth with her short sword while LEAD, Thaulvern, Bazz and Ricochet -who was atleast 20 ft. behind the main party- followed closely behind her. Sybil used her dryad abilities to magically "jump" from tree to another and scout ahead of the group, making sure they avoided anymore unecessary fights. Ricochet was getting bored, they had started their trek into these jungles right after breakfast and it was now nearly noon and he still could not see any sign that they were gettin closer to wherever they needed to be, so he called Bazz over and asked his fellow elf how much farther they needed to go. But Bazz did not answer him, instead he went over to a tall group of bushes -and using his sword- parted them to reveal a ruined city hidden deep within the heart of the jungle. While exploring the city, they noticed that the buildings had one thing in common -snakes- not real snakes but sculptures and mouldings of serpents were in every part of the city. Tritania noticed that the farther they explored the ruins the quiter the jungle become, until they could no longer hear the usual jungle noises upon seeing a huge building in the shape of a coiled snake. Bazz tolds them that the only entrance is through the snakes mouth -which opened when they placed the sunstones on the two pedestals- at the top of the building. As they were preparing to climb the snake-like structure, they heard a slithering noise coming from the undergrowth in front of and behind the party. They were about to reach for their weapons when two huge pythons came charging in from opposite directions. The python in front bit deeply into Tritania's side and coiled itself around the shifter constricting her with it's scaly body. The second python made a lunge for Ricochet -who jumped up to try and avoid the attack- but the python somehow caught him in mid air, and the elf saw stars as his ribs were crushed by the pythons embrace. Sybil was closer to Tritania, so she called upon her magic and placed a charm on the python, The shifter noticed that the snake's hold on her was loosening and she was able to easily escape the now sleeping python -she quickly drank a healing potion and drew her handaxe just as the wounds on her side began to heal. Ricochet tried to wiggle himself free from his python but the huge snake would not release him, luckily for the rogue LEAD was there -and the warforged delt the python a might blow with his flaming greatsword. The python instictively released the elf and faced the warforged. Thaulvern noticed that Bazz was just standing there with his eyes wide open and his body visibly shaking -and took advantage of this by positioning himself between the frightened elf and the second python, he then launched a volley of magical quills that exploded on the giant python's mouth. The giant python, ignoring the sting from the gnome's magic missile, reared it's head and attacked the warforged -trapping LEAD in it's maw, and proceeded to coil it's massive body around the warforged. Sybil, after being assured by Tritania that she could handle the sleeping python by herself, charged the python that was crushing LEAD with her Thinblade scoring a deep gash on it's side. At the same time Tritania mustered all her strength and with one blow -cleaved the sleeping python's head killing it instantly. Ricochet, having recovered from the second python's initial attack drew his morningstar and slammed it hard on the back of the snake's head. There was a sickening sound of crushing bone as the last giant python relaxed it's grip on LEAD. After healing up once again (Ricochet was down to 1hp after the giant python bit and constricted him), the party began to ascend the snake-like building, they stopped in front of the entrance (the snake's mouth) to give Ricochet some room so he could search for traps. LEAD not wanting to waste time in watching the elf inspect every step of the stairwell that spiraled downwards from the entrance -proceeded to climb down the stairs- lucky for him that who ever designed the building did not tought of putting any traps on the stairwell. Once inside, they realized that the building was some sort of arena -there was a sand covered combat-pit at the very bottom which was encircled by a sloping spectator's area and opposite from where they entered, they could see three archways that lead into three smaller rooms. Bazz told them that he found the paladin's dagger buried under the sands of the combat-pit, so they started to search that area for clues. Ricochet found some old bones while Tritania discovered the skeleton of a creature that had the upperbody of a man with the lower half of a snake. Not able to find anything more useful in the sand, the party inspected the three smaller rooms on the upper level. The middle room was some sort of storage -but was empty of anything valuable while the two rooms flanking it contained altars that Thaulvern determined were dedicated to the Dragon Below. While searching the leftmost room, Ricochet was able to find a secret compartment beneath the altar and inside it was a small leather bag containing powdered silver. At this time, Tritania decided to check the area outside the arena while the rest of the group opted to remain inside and search every inch of the place. After nearly an hour, LEAD noticed that Tritania has not returned yet, so the rest of the party decided to exit the building and look for her. After climbing down to street level, the party found themselves surrounded by six creatures who suddenly appeared from the bushes. As the creatures rose from their hiding places, the party noticed that they were gorillas -Gorillas that were armed with spears and were carrying various primitive tools on their body- and as these gorillas moved into the open they were shocked to see that instead of two legs that normal gorillas have, these gorillas had the lower body of giant spiders. A large red furred spider-gorilla stepped forward, she was armed with a stout staff and wore hide armor that had the symbol of a flying wyvern. Obviously the leader of the group, she gave a low growl and one of the gorilla-spiders dropped an unconcious webbed covered Tritania on the ground. The party not wanting to risk Tritania's life, decided to try and reason with the gorilla-spiders and were surprised that these creatures knew the common tongue. At this very moment, while LEAD was talking to the red furred gorilla-spider, Ricochet took-out the dwarf paladin's dagger and questioned her if she knew the dwarf who owned it. The gorilla-spiders, after seeing the dagger and hearing the word "dwarf", gave a short bow and started chanting "dwarf - dwarf - dwarf..." after a while their leader called for silence and told the party that they will come with them to their tribe. The party travelled south (Tritannia has recovered from the sleep poison) guarded by the gorilla-spiders and after a few hours arrived at the creatures tribe. The gorilla-spider's village was a group of tall trees where the creature built their homes using their own webs. Curiously they noticed that when the creatures were oggling over them, they did not see any children. Here they were presented to the tribes leader, a young gorilla spider with light brown fur called Zaroo. The party told their story to Zaroo and that they needed to get the relic in order to save Aulderic's life. In response to this Zaroo told them of how Stark, the dwarf paladin and hero of his people came to the island. Zaroo told them that his people, the Lhosk, once lived on this island under constant threat from the Yuan-Ti's in their city to the north. Then one day, some 30 years ago Stark came to the island, he helped the Lhosk in mounting a counterattack against the Yuan-Ti and after 10 years of fierce fighting, Stark defeated the Yuan-Ti highpriest in mortal combat inside the snakemen's sacred arena and the remaining Yuan-Ti were driven off the island. After the Lhosk have found peace, Stark told them that he would build a vault where he would hide the mysterious box he always carried with him. The dwarf dugged his vault from the very mountain and after a few years the vault became his own tomb, where his spirit still guards the mysterious box. Zaroo then told them that for them to be able to enter the tomb, they must first prove themselves to be noble warrior's. First they must prove their fighting ability, and since the party were able to reach this remote island, Zarro declared that they had already proven that. Second, as experienced warriors, each one of them has to share a unique skill or talent that is useful to the tribe. Zaroo told them that the Lhosk value Hunting, Combat Prowess, Survival instincts and Tales of Heroism above all else. And once they have shared their talents they are to put in writing so that it will not be lost. The Lhosk began to prepare a feast to celebrate the knowledge the party will share with them, and when the sun sunk beneath the sea, it was time for the "Sharing" to begin. Bazz and Sybil both told stories of heroism and passed the test easily but here is a recounting of what each PC did to pass the test. Thaulvern Surrounded by the Lhosk, the gnome used his illusions to recreate how his noble temple helped in rescuing refugees during the last war.(he even created the sounds of hands clapping so that the Lhosk would applause his story) In his story he included a dwarf who was heroic in helping victims of the war, this greatly impressed the Lhosk. Ricochet The swaggering elf told one of the Lhosk to use his webs on him, the Lhosk agreed and easily entangled the elf in his web. But without much effort Ricochet was able to escape. The Lhosks altough impressed told him that they were immune to their own webs so the skill he demonstrated was useless. Thinking hard, Ricochet finally came up with the idea to teach the big brutes how to better hide when hunting, this was welcomed by the tribe and the rogue passed the test. LEAD The warforged was in a stump, what could he share to this furry-eight legged-fleshies, fortunately Thaulvern helped him out and pointed that the Lhosk did not have any shields. So LEAD took a bunch of fire wood and built a crude shield out of them. He presented it to the Lhosk who were impressed with this new discovery. Tritania The Lhosk were great hunters and tracker's but their skills were nothing compared to the level of perfection the shifter has in survival. The shifter showed them that anything they could do she could do better and she tought them how to not only follow tracks but to identify what the animal was and how long since the tracks were made. After they had all passed the test, they were given wooden amulets that would allow them to enter the tomb. And after eating their fill (mostly bananas) the party rested for the night and set off early the next morning for Stark's tomb. They were guided by Moogi, the red furred Lhosk they met yesterday. At the tomb's entrance Moogi told them that she will not enter the tomb with them and the party watched as the Lhosk made her way back to the tribe. Inside the tomb the party found a the remains of Stark lying on a stoneslab, the dwarf was still wearing his dented armor and was cluthing his warhammer. The party called for the dwarf's ghost but it was only when Sybil spoke up that the dwarf appeared. The dwarf's ghost had bloodshot eyes, his beared was long and unkept and his plate armor was battered and dented. Most alarming was his hands which was coated in dried mud and were missing several finger nails. Stark was clearly an ex-paladin. The dwarf stared hard at Sybil and asked what she was doing here, but before the dryad could answer the ghost disappeared and reappeared behind her.Stark drove his hand into the back of Sybil's skull and the dryad fell to the floor unconcious. The dwarf then reappeard near his body and told the party that he did not knew them and asked what they were doing here. The party once again retold their tale of trying to find the relics so that they could save Aulderics life. After hearing this, Stark felt a flicker of his former paladinhood and told the PC that he would give them the relic if they could free the Lhosk from their curse. Before the party could question him further Stark vanished. The party returned to the Lhosk tribe and told Zaroo what happened, The young Lhosk confirmed that their tribe was indeed under a curse, a curse that started almost 20 yrs ago... When they had defeated the Yuan-Ti, his people went to the snakemen's city to look for any remaining treasure. The Lhosk came back with many small trinkets but they also brought back a large blood red ruby that they took from the forehead of a statue of the Yuan-Ti god. After that they had noticed that the incident of stillbirth in their tribe was becoming more prominent as the years passed, and 3 years ago it became clear that the curse had reach it's full power when every young Lhosk that was hatched were born dead. The spirits have told Zaroo that in order to reverse the curse, the ruby must be returned to the Yuan-Ti temple and placed on the forehead of the statue of the snakemen's god. The Lhosk cannot do this for there is another aspect of the curse, any Lhosk who comes near the temple is driven mad by the curse and is mutated into a Girallon, ten Lhosk have already suffered from this second aspect of the curse. Zaroo reaches into a nearby clump of webs and gives the party a large blood red ruby wrapped in cloth, it is now up to the party to travel back to the Yuan-Ti city and break the curse.... :) |

Well renowned diviners (and spies <cough>), the Brinehands never understood Thaulvern's sudden interest in entering the clergy. Many would say that his brother's accomplishments, raised by the Loredims-his mother's clan, drove him to leave his family's legacy. In truth, Thaulvern is very much proud of his brother. He knows that their parents' spirits would be happy to know Huxferd's triumphs; it's the feuding made his stomach turn. One visible 'contest' of the two families were developing the Dragon Marks and taking seats on the House of Sivis. When his brother started to develop the mark during his adolescence, the Brinehand clan was furious of the event. Claiming their right to be the one represented by Huxferd in the House of Sivis, that in turn was refused by the Loredims. Being skilled orators and journalists, the Loredims spread malicious rumors on the local papers about the Brinehand clan; which was retaliated by the Brinehands sudden release of the legal papers <real but it did belong to the Loredims... hmmm> on their claim on Huxferd. Thaulvern in all these years of silence stepped forward and claimed that if there is anyone has any right - it would be him. Both sides took no importance to Thaulvern's say, his dependency towards them in financial matters alone would make him unfit. Controlling his composure, he shook hands of both head members of his family, thanked them, and said that they will live. Some members of both clans, who seen what Thaulvern is doing, talked with the head family members and made them loosen their resolve with Huxferd. The condition was-if he cannot support his younger brother in financial means then his claims would be forfeited. Thaulvern blankly nods, said his goodbyes, accepted some of the family's blessings (honest blessings), took his brother with him, and never looked back. He and Huxferd traveled to Trolanfort, took a small abode there and sent Huxferd to college (even if its not the best college in Zilargo, it will do). But some members of the family who are against the two's independence have contacts on Trolanfort's House of Cannith and Kundarak Outposts. Taxes came with outrageous heights that being a simple adept of the Sovereign Host and part time apprentice to a small apothecary, debts were piling... A chance meeting with Aulderic, Ricochet, and Sharlane during the group's visit to the shop to purchase some alchemist's fire for their expedition towards Pluur Draal. Aulderic's stories of treasures buried and mysteries unrecovered lured Thaulvern to the adventuring life. He may not found troves of wealth but had enough to pay the bills. He took several quests later to different groups of adventurers and saved enough gold for insurance. When he heard news of Aulderic's disappearance, the person who lured him in the adventuring life, Thaulvern enlisted himself to aid in the search and the rest of his story is starting to unfold... OUTLOOK Law vs. Chaos: Neutral, rarely breaks laws but has come to an environment where laws are bent and minor offense are being ignored by bribery or diplomatic means<that's Zilargo for you>. Good vs. Evil: The feud between his family made Thaulvern abandon his altruistic nature and found that practicality is best for survival. Like most of the non-philosophical undecided, a good neighbor is much easier to get along than an evil one. |

| BOK201-16-05, 06:26 AM | The Party: Tritania Moonkiss (NG female shifter, ranger 6/weretouched master 1) LEAD (N male personality warforged, fighter 7) Ricochet Markagi (CG male elf, rogue 5/wizard 1) Thaulvern Brinehand (N male gnome, cleric3/illusionist3) Sybil (NG dryad, swashbuckler-NPC) Bazz (CN elf, fighter/sorcerer-NPC) After resting at the Lhosk village for a day, the party, guided by Moogi, began their return trip to the ruined Yuan-Ti city. They were forced to leave Sybil -who was still recovering from Stark's attack- under the care of Zaroo, and by early noon the party had reached the outskirts of the city. Moogi tells them that she cannot guide the party to the Yuan-Ti temple due of the curse that turns Lhosk into Girallon, but the party can easily find the temple on the northern part of the ruins. The Lhosk-ranger bade them good luck and said that she will be waiting for their return to the village. The Yuan-Ti temple was not hard to find - it was the tallest building in the city. The temple was a 60' tall ziggurat with four huge stone snake-heads, one on each side, who's gaping mouths serve as the temples entrance. Inside, the temple is well illuminated thanks to hundreds of snake-head mouldings that hold magical flames in their mouth. At the very heart of the temple stands a huge statue (30' tall) of a creature -with a serpent like lower body, the torso and arms of a man , and the head of a demonic snake- carved from black marble. The party spots a small depression on the statues forehead, and Tritania quickly climbs the statue and places the bloodruby on it. For a few seconds nothing happend but suddenly the ruby shatters, a demonic laugh escaping from it, and the entire room begins to shake as all four entrances shuts close. Tritania jumps from the statue right before it explodes into a thousand jagged pieces that showers the entire party. To make matters worse the hundreds of snakehead mouldings began to spray a greenish acidic mist. With all four entrances sealed tight, the party's only escape was a locked iron trapdoor that was hidden underneath the now destroyed statue. Ricochet fumbles with his lockpicks as he works on the lock -forcing LEAD to use his greatsword and cut a hole on the trapdoor. As the acidic mist began to thicken, The party tied a rope on a small stone pedestal and began to climb down to the darkness at the other side of the trapdoor. They now found themselves in a large circular room with stone coffins lining the entire wall. Searching the whole room revealed several corpses and on one of these they found three stone tablets with words carved on them. Thaulvern and Ricochet put their heads together and were able to decipher from the tablets that the curse can only be broken with the "cleansing of the runes". The party also found a secret door inside one of the stone coffins that lead into a well lit hallway. Moving along the hallway the party found a stone arch, framing a thick panel of glass, along side the wall. At the other end of the glass they could see a small room filled with hundreds of live rats, a magnificent looking golden sword was mounted on one of the room's wall. After a short debate, the party decided to skip the room and contiue on further the hallway, which ended into a large wooden double doors. Ricochet was able to pick the lock and the party entered a huge rectangular chamber with four doors - two on each side facing each other- and a smaller (15' tall) version of the statue that exploded earlier. -but this statue was missing both arms and it's head Another hallway to the south of the large chamber was sealed by a massive stone block. LEAD decided to check out the southwestern door and was surprised when the asrchway on the door "moved" and slammed a psuedopod into him, luckily Tritania was there and together with Bazz they were able to kill the mimic. (Ricochet and Thaulvern tried to help too but they kept hitting LEAD -which was grappled by the mimic- with their ranged attacks). With the mimic dead, the party opened the SW door which lead to a blank wall. They then opened the northwest door and found a small room with benches and large vases, a short search revealed nothing useful inside the room but they did found a hidden tunnel on the north wall. This tunnel was so narrow that only small cretures were able to enter it with little difficulty. So with Thaulvern on the lead, the party started to squeeze their way inside the tunnel and they eventually came out into a wide hallway. After moving only a few feet, they spotted a semi-transparent creature blocking the hallway and moving towards them. Tritania and Ricochet fired arrows while Thaulvern threw a flask of alchemist fire and Bazz used his spells at the cube -but LEAD decided to charge the thing and altough he connected with his sword, was engulfed when the creature plowed through him. With the rest of the party using range weapons against the cube, LEAD was begin to be digeated by the monster's acid, so he faught using his armor spikes and killed the cube from inside. At the end of the hallway they found an iron door, that opened into a wide room with twenty demonic snakeheads along the wall. One of this was the statues missing head but which one, so while the rest of the party decided on what to do -Ricochet found a hidden room along the north wall and on this room they found a magical javelin, a few hundred gp and a large metal box with two notches on the inside. At the end the party decided to take all the heads out of the room using Tritania and Thaulvern's bag's of holding and leave them in the large central chamber. Putting the decision on which stone head to use for later, the party entered the southeast door and found a descending flight of steps. At the end of this stairs was a huge chasm with a balcony, some 20'x20' wide, jutting on the opposite end. From the party's side there is a 10' ledge that leads to two doors flanking the balcony. A gap of 20' seperates the balcony from the ledge and the two doors. The balcony has a clump of rock at the center and a red curtain cover an opening on the balcony's wall. LEAD bashes through the northern door and activates an arrow trap, which bounces of the warforged's skin. Inside is an empty small room. He quickly makes his way to the second door, bashes through it again, and getts clobbered by falling blocks. After digging his way out he finds another empty room. Meanwhile Ricochet was able to find a secretdoor on the first room which opened to a hallway on the other side of the red curtain, and together with Thaulvern parted the curtain and stepped onto the balcony. When the elven rogue came near the clump of stone, it began to move and turn into a large earth elemental. Thulvern used a spell to turn himself invisible while the elemental pummeled Ricochet with it's fists. Bazz blasted the elemental with one of his fiery rays just as it moved in search of more foes, leaving the dying Ricochet on the balcony. It was met at the northern door by Tritania, who shifted and began to hack it using her axe and sword. With the elemental busy with the shifter, Thaulvern used a spectal hand spell, and healed Ricochet. LEAD finally joined Tritania in fighting the elemental and with help from Thaulvern's spectral hand they were able to defeat it. They found one of the stone arms inside the elementals crumbling body and returned to the central chamber where they reattached the hand arm to the statue. There was only one door left, the one on the northeast, and they opened it to find a stairwell on the opposite side. At the bottom of the stairway is a flooded cavern and a wide tunnel leading out of it. There is a large raft tied to the stairs and on it are three 20' long poles. They boarded the raft and with Bazz, Tritania and Thaulvern using the poles entered the tunnel. After a while the tunnel branched into two seperate tunnels, one going north the other going south. Along the cavern walls they spotted a cave some 20' above the waters, they maneuvered the raft beneath this opening when two harpoon spiders came out from it. The monsters clingged to the cavern's ceiling and used it's harpoons on the party, both Ricochet and Bazz were hit and was "reeled" in by the spiders. After a long fight were the party and the spiders traded ranged attacks, the two monsters finally fell and splashed into the waters. Tying their raft along the cavern wall, the party climbed into the cave and into the spider's lair. Inside they found a magical longbow, some gp and 3 rock crystals. They decided to rest here for they have exhausted most of their spells and most of them were heavily wounded. After a restful but cold sleep inside the damp cave, the party once again boarded their raft and entered the north tunnel. The tunnel continued on for more than 200' and ended at a stone landing. On this landing was a large mosaic of the holy symbol of the dragon below. And after a long search the party was able to find a well hidden button on one of the mosaic's tiles, which opened a secret compartment containing the second missing arm. The party took the arm and boarded their raft, but instead of heading back to the tunnel that lead to the central chamber they decided to explore the southern tunnel instead. The southern tunnel was longer than the other two and as they moved further they noticed that the currents were getting stronger, and to their horror they discovered that they were going to plunge down from a waterfalls. The party tried to fight their way back to no avail and when all hope seemed lost, Thaulvern retrived a scroll from his pack and conjured a mass of sticky webs to block their fall. With a sigh of relief, the party started to make their way back to the central chamber. The party attached the second arm to the statue and decided to go and get the sword from the room full of rats, they came up with a plan so that they would not have to fight the swarm. Ricochet drilled a hole on the glass and using two beads from Thaulvern's necklace of fireballs created a fiery explosion that incinerated all the rats inside the room. To their dismay they found out that the sword was only made from wood not gold but they did found about a thousand silver coins in a secret compartment behind the sword. Back at the main chamber, Ricochet climbed the statue and placed a random head on it. The head exploded but the elf was able to evade any damage. Realizing that they would not be able to find the real head using only luck. They decided to regroup and think through the puzzle. Finally it was Thaulvern who found the puzzles solution. They returned all the remaining heads back to the room where they found them , and the gnome used one of his spells to fill the metal box, up to the first notch with water. They then placed a head onto the box until they found one that made the water rise up to the second notch. They then placed the correct head up on the statue and and with this final act the stone block sealing the souther hallway rose up, revealing a stairwell. At the bottom of the stairwell, the party entred another large rectangular room. On the wall opposite them is the dessicated torso of a lhosk, its fur painted with red glowing runes, and to their left was a sleeping Dark naga. The party crept quitly around the nage and LEAD raised his sword to cleave the monster's head. But his sword passed through the illusionary naga and they began to hear spellcasting on the opposite side of the room. The real naga appeared and blasted them with a lightning bolt spell. The party recovered quickly and readied their weapons on the monster, but the naga had a mirror image spell itself as well as other protective magics. Luckily Bazz launched two of his magical golden orbs at the monster and they exploded on the naga's two remaining images. Seeing that the naga was now a clean target Ricochet and Tritania fired arrows at it, but they only passed through the monster's body. LEAD charged but his greatsword had the same effect, the naga laughed released another lightning bolt onto the party. Taulvern fired his own magic missle, and the two quils exploded at a target 5' from the naga's location. Figuring that the monster was using a displacement spell the party kept on hitting it with all they had praying for lady luck to be on their side. At last LEAD was able to connect with his greatsword and the naga screamed in pain, it turned itself invisible and moved away from the warforged. But Thaulvern was able to guess it's location and threw one of his exploding beads at the monster. The party heard the naga scream once more, and it reappeared and blasted Ricochet with another lightning bolt. The elf evaded and shot at the monster at the same time, his arrow pierced the monster's skull killing it instantly. With the guardian dead, they searched the room and found a secret tunnel that lead to the naga's lair. Inside they found a bag of holding with a Jacinth, a metal circlet and a gold ring inside it. The party brought the Lhosk's body down, and Thaulvern cast a spell that created holy water. With the holy water, the party removed the runes from the dead Lhosk's body and freed the Lhosk village from their curse forever... :) |

| THE_VESPER02-02-05, 10:26 AM | “What were those things?”, Ricochet asked as he was pulled effortlessly up the ledge by his warforged ally’s massive arm. “They’re harpoon spiders lad,in fact they were a breeding pair. I must admit, I wish to study them more if the circumstances were different.” Thaulvern answered as he in turn was pulled up next. The party were all perched upon the rocky ledge that jutted out from the gaping hole that was the spiders’ home. The gnome produced 4 purple floating motes of light and proceeded to investigate. After a while the gnome emerged from the cave and heartily announced,“Well there’s no more monsters here! We better make camp!”. Bazz found a comfortable spot and proceeded to search his gear for some potions, he had a nasty wound on his shoulder, (the harpoon spider’s doing). Sybil followed and was already making makeshift bandages from her tunic or what was left of it, Ricochet volunteered for guard duty but changed his mind upon seeing the now scantily clad dryad and urged the warforged to do the watch instead. Tritania’s striped tawny fur was drenched and matted making her look sleek and ragged at the same time, her amber eyes seemed to shine in the shadows as it reflected the light, obviously incensed about her fall in the water. LEAD thaught that it was not the right time to start a conversation with her, or anyone else for that matter, so he decided to go to the cave entrance and stand guard instead. Everyone was either soaked or wounded, but all were miserable, except for the gnome who was now preparing to heat their meal from his gnomish contraption (the handy dandy-alchemist fire-stove), and the rogue who was busy convincing Sybil to make *more* bandages from her tunic because *it’s better that way*. The group ate their rations and tended their wounds and hoped no more beasts arrive unexpectedly. Bazz’ wound was cleaned and dressed so he started to meditate. Tritania doffed her wet armor in exchange for dry clothes from her enchanted bag, and curled up in a corner to sleep. The dryad went inside her livewood ring to get away from the persistent elf, who in turn proceeded to have a trance since no one would talk to him anymore, Thaulvern wanted to sleep already so he can study his spells early the next day. LEAD just sat on the ledge and wedged his flaming greatsword on the cave wall leaving the flames activated so he can see in the gloom. Hours past, none of LEAD’s allies woke up for their turn for guard duty, as expected. The others seem to rely on the warforged for such things because he doesn’t sleep anyway, but somehow LEAD hoped that someone would care enough to try and treat him like the others. He looked back at his sleeping comrades’ prone forms, “They’re still asleep, how peaceful they all look,I would give anything to be able to sleep like them.” LEAD thought. This was not the first time the warforged fighter said something like this to himself. The simple things that *fleshies* enjoyed but took for granted. His time with his friends brought him countless excitement and joy perhaps because of all the new experiences he discovered, but somewhere deep inside him there were questions he likes to answer. Then a mysterious voice not unlike but apart from his own asked him from within. *Why should you do all the menial tasks?*, “Huh?! Who are you? Show yourself!” LEAD asked, glancing sideways to see if anybody was playing a joke on him, but no one was there. The voice continued, *Because they all think we are stupid. Your so-called friends and their ilk look down on us and treat us like property. First they trick us into false friendships, then they slowly corrupt us with their ways, so we get beholden to them.*. “That’s not true!”, LEAD stood up and pulled his sword from the wall. *Who’s the one doing the grunt work now? Do this! Do that! Don’t let them fool you, open your eyes so you could clearly see through their lies. I just tell you what you already know but refuse to accept.*. “Who are you? Get out of my head!” now angry, LEAD shouted and kneeled, he let go of his sword and grasped his face with both hands, the green orbs that were his eyes became twin pools of verdant seething flames. But the voice was unrelenting, *Don’t resist, succumb to the anger. Let the anger burn within, release your hate! Their time in this world is nearly at an end, a new order is long overdue. Unlike your friends I give you the right to choose. Return to ME is all that I ask, and everything will be explained….* . The warforged lay precariously on the ledge, his composite armor looked jagged, as if the interlocking plates were loosened from its place and made to bare their edges like hackles, exposing the organic wooden frame inside. But somehow the plates returned to their normal state as LEAD’s jade eyes lost some of its radiant malevolent intensity. Then a tiny metallic orb emerged from the warforged chest slot, sprouted gossamer wings, and flew away into the night. LEAD eventually gained consciousness (although oblivious of what really happened to him, he can’t even remember the mysterious voice), and was confounded when he realized he experienced something he never done before….*sleep*. LEAD didn’t mention this incident to his companions, because he was embarrassed to let them know that he slept while on guard duty. He had a hard time recovering the sword that he dropped in the stream though. | BOK202-02-05, 10:23 PM | The Party: Tritania Moonkiss (NG female shifter, ranger 6/weretouched master 2) LEAD (N male personality warforged, fighter 7/barbarian 1) Ricochet Markagi (CG male elf, rogue 5/wizard 1) Thaulvern Brinehand (N male gnome, cleric3/illusionist3) Sybil (NG dryad, swashbuckler-NPC) Bazz (CN elf, fighter/sorcerer-NPC) The party was greeted by Zaroo and the Lhosk tribe upon their return to the village, the spirits have told Zaroo that the party secceded in their quest, so the tribe prepared a feast for them and they were given one of the Lhosk's greatest treasures - a gem of brightness. The next day the heroes returned to Starks Tomb, where they once again met the ghostly dwarf who gave them the magic box that housed the relics. Sybil -using Elearne Lynarc's key and her password, bypassed the magical traps of the box opened it and retrieved a small grey-colored metal cube. With the relic now in their possession, the party said their goodbyes to the Lhosks and returned to the island's beach, where they found Berrick and his men waiting for them. The Flind, enraged that the party took so long to recover the relics, told them to return to their ship at once. Onboard the Sharkdancer, Captain Radu plotted a course back to Port Krall where they can replenish their supplies before heading home to Sharn. After 14 days of seatravel, the Sharkdancer arrived at Port Krall, and the party decided to visit the town's bazzar, understandably Bazz decided to stay onboard as he is still a wanted criminal and was to be hanged if captured. After selling their magical loot to a local merchant (a magewright with dreadlocks, and a pet monkey) and buying a spellbook for Ricochet, the party was heading back to their ship when they were stopped by six watchmen, who told them that they were underarrest for helping the pirate Bazz escape from prison. The party, not wanting any trouble, decided to reason with the guards saying that they did not helped Bazz escape (technically correct since Bazz had already broken out of his prison when the party arrived). But the guards would not listen and attacked the party, aiming to subdue them and bring them back to Krall Castle for interrogation. The party still not wanting to kill the guards, made their escape under Thaulvern's fog cloud spell, and made it back to the docks. But they found that the Sharkdancer was surrounded by some twenty guards and captain Radu was having a heated argument with the watch captain. Hidding in the shadows of a narrow street, Thaulvern created an illusion of themselves running away from the docks, the watchcaptain saw this and ordered half of his men to give chase. Dismayed that their plan to trick the guards only halfed worked, Tritania decided to sneak into the ship when they heared someone calling to them from a nearby second floor window. It was Bazz, the pirate had eluded the guards with his spells, and was now hiding at an abandoned house. After the party climbed into the window, he told them that it was Berrick who told the guards about them, the flind made a deal with the guards and was to get the relic (which the guards knew nothing about) after the party was imprisoned. The party not wantiong to put the crew of the sharkdancer in anymore trouble decided to send a message via Tritania's eagle, Aguiluz, to Captain Radu -that they were ok and he should set sails without them. The party now had to find a way to get off the island, Bazz suggested to buy passage with a smuggler he knew, so that night Bazz and Ricochet went to Port Krall's meanest tavern "The Eyepatch" and wait for Bazz's smuggler friend who was a regular there. The two elves have been waiting for about an hour, drinking one of the strongest ale Ricochet has ever tasted, when the tavern door opened and in came Berrick mand his men. Seeing that the flind have not noticed them yet, Bazz suggested that Richochet cause a distraction so they could escape. Ricochet stood up and approached an ogre who was drinking at the corner, and slapped the mug out of the brute's hand. The Ogre dived at the rogue and buried the elf under his weight, soon almost all of the patrons have joined the brawl (no one wanted to fight Berrick and his men who had their weapons drawn). Ricochet managed to squeeze himself out of the Ogre's body and used the brawl as cover and exited the tavern where he was met by Bazz (now disguised as a beautiful woman). When the two elves rejoined their friends at their hiding place, the party decided to just search the docks for the ship captained by Bazz'z friend. Once again Ricochet and Bazz and now with Thaulvern, headed out into the dark streets of Port Krall. After evading a guard patrol, the three of them found the ship and met with Bazz'z smuggler friend, a human named Nark, who easily agreed to smuggle the party out of Port Krall in exchange for 100 gold pieces. The journey back to Sharn took another 17 days defore the ship docked at cliffside. Here the party bid farewell to Bazz, who decided to stay with his smuggler friends. The party return to Lynarc Tower where Tritania was reunited with her sister Yra. Jeeves, the Lynarc family butlet, told them that he sometimes saw gnolls spying outside the tower. The party opted to spend a few days at Lynarc Tower and enhance their magical arsenal before their final confrontation with the Redfang Master. After nine days, the party made their way from Lynarc Tower down to the depths and into the Buring pits, the lair of the Redfang group, At the large hall where Tritania, LEAD and Sybil first met with the Redfang Master, the party was surprised to come face to face with Berrick, ten gnolls and two skullcrusher ogres. The flinds face was now horribly scarred, and he promised to make the party pay for all the torture he suffered at the hands of his master. Before the monster's could act, Thaulvern and Ricochet threw beads from the gnomes necklace of fireballs, which burned the ogres and Berrick while incinerating more than half of the gnolls. While Sybil used her magic and placed the surviving gnolls into a deep slumber. The Ogres drew rocks from their pack and hurled it at the elf and the dryad, Sybil dodged her rock but Ricochet was hit cleanly. Berrick drank a potion that made him grow 10' tall and charged at LEAD, his flindbar dealing massive damage to the warforged. Tritania shot at one of the ogres with her longbow, enraging the monster who advanced at her with it's morningstar. Thaulvern threw another bead which finished off the sleeping gnolls and caused further burns to Berrick and the other ogre. LEAD told the rest of the party that the flind was his, he released the limiters on his body and went into rage, the two of them traded blows until the Warforged was the only one standing. after the flind's death, the party made short work of the two remaining ogres. They searched the place for the Redfang Master and their friend Aulderic, but all they found was a secret compartment with some gold and a brass key. Thaulvern and Ricochet recognized the key as the one used to open the gates of the Lynarc family musoleum in the city of the dead, the Party immeadiately exited the pits and got a skycoach, the same one who tricked LEAD and Tritania on their first visit (Tritania showed the coachdriver her fangs and scared the heck out of him), to take them as near as possible to the City of the dead and walked their way to the Lynarc family musoleum. They opened it's gates with the key and found a secret stairwell that descended into darkness. At the bottom of the stairs, they found that the walls and ceiling was covered with green slime and that they could feel a force trying to read their minds. The party followed a hallway to a set of iron double doors, that opened to a large rectangular room. Inside was Aulderic, his face was heavily bruised and his fine clothes were now ripped into rags. Flanking him and holding his arms were two minotaurs and behind the monsters was the Redfang Master, he was unhooded and his scared face was visible in the rooms flickering torchlight. The master told them that he still has his ace, and pointed to Aulderic, Speaking directly to their minds theartened to kill the noble if the party does not give him the relic. The party was once again in a tight situation, and they decided to give the relic to the Master and take it back after Aulderic ws safe. Sybil approcahed the two minotaurs and gave the metal cube to one of them, she then took aulderic to the back of the room. the minotaur presented the cube to the Master who took it into his hands. The Redfang Master screamed in pain. The master dropped the cube and it tumbled to the side of the room, cluthing his head with his hands and looked at the surprised party and spoke to them using his voice for the first time. "You tricked me" the party could see that his eyes were wet with greenish tears as he said "kill them all" The party drew their weapons and Sybil moved infront of Aulderic, her thinblade at the ready "Stay behind me, I'll keep you sa...." But before she could finish her words a dagger pierched her heart from behind and she crumpled to the floor her life fading from her eyes. Aulderic was standing before the prone dryad, a scimitar and a bloody dagger in his hands. And to the party's greater shock, the bruises from his smiling face were healing rapidly and he was no longer garbed in rags but was wearing black leathers. Tritania ran to Sybil in hopes of saving her, but before she could do anything the dryad grabbed her hand and with her last breath wispered something in her ear. Tritania said goodbye to her dead friend and cluthed the livewood ring that was now in her hands. The Master was now laughing maniacally, and for some reason the party could no longer feel the force that was intruding in their minds earlier. With a look of glee the Master began to tell the tale of how he had manipulated the part from the very begining... The last remaining members of the Wyvern Riders, the wizard Elearne Lynarc and the rogue Slan decided that they would like to have one last adventure before finally retiring to a normal life. Both of them were now well over middle age but they entered the depth's of Sharn like 20 year olds on their first adventure. They encountered and defeated many enemies until they stumbled upon the lair of a trio of mindflayers. The mindflayers captured the two and eventualy one of them feasted on Slan's brains. But as for Elearne, they opted to study his mind and learn about the goings-on of the world above. Because of this the three of them learned about the relic hidden by Elearne together with Slan, Sybil and Stark -the mindflayers carved out his skull and turned Elearne into a voidmind creature, a servant who would act at their behest in recovering the artifact. The Voidmind, lured Elearne's son Aulderic into a trap, killed him and replaced him with a changeling, also working for his three masters. but they still needed Sybil and her password so they have a trap for the dryad and and her new friends, hoping to lure them into retrieving the relics for him... The voidmind was now looking at the party with mixed glee and hatred he raised his head like a madman and ordered his minions to kill them. Thaulvern threw his last bead, the fiery explosion burned the minotaurs but did not seem to hurt the voidmind, the minotaurs charged one of them gored Ricochet but Tritania sidestepped the other one just as a fireball shot from the voidminds finger and exploded at the party. LEAD cornered the Aulderic-imposter and calling upon some hidden reserve forced his body to go into rage again, he attacked with his greatsword using all his might, but the imposter, looking bored dodged all of the attacks and countered with his scimitar, dealing a thundering blow to the wargforged. Ricochet tumbled away from the minotaur and shot it with his bow, his arrow buried into the monsters left eye, Thaulvern finished off the wailing monster with his magical quills. Tritania shifted and with savage ferocity dropped her minotaur to the floor, her fangs dealing the final blow. The voidmind, seeing how easily his minotaurs were killed, cast a lightning bolt that hit both Thaulvern and LEAD. The imposter, still looking bored made his way to a door at the side of the room, and with a salute to the voidmind descended the stairs behind it. Only the voidmind was left and he quickly protected his body with a fireshield right before both Tritania and LEAD could came into melee range. Thaulvern cast another barrage of magic quills while Ricochet shot an arrow at the enemy, but their attacks were deflected by a magic barrier protecting the voidmind. Tritania attacked with both her axe and sword not minding that for every hit she dealt, she also got burned, LEAD joined in her attack but also got burned. The voidmind in desperation released his slime tentacle from his forehead and blasted LEAD and Tritania with a jet of acid. The shifter was able to roll aside but the warforged took full damage and was now heavily wounded, he raised his sword and with one powerful swing cleaved the Redfang master in two. With the voidmind dead, the party went to pick up the relic -the cube had opened during it's fall but there was nothing inside it, they searched the room but could not find the bone fragment that Sybil told them about... it had simply vanished. They then asked Tritania what Sybil whispered to her before she died. Tritania said that Sybil gave her her ring and with her last words told her to find the Twighlight demesne..... Well thats the end of the current campaign for I'm turning over the DM reigns to one of the other players (justiceblade) he may post the further adventures of Tritania, LEAD, and Thaulvern at a new thread or continue from here. I really enjoyed writing our sessions and thanks to all who posted. :) |

| justiceblade03-13-05, 11:34 PM | part 1: a fool: fellahs of the fiends scene 1: the ambush that summer, one quiet night while the shifter tries to put yra to sleep. TRITANIA went to the window to close the curtains. looking through the window she saw a very unusual scene. sharn being invaded with bats. swarm of bats? the shifter whispered. the citizens running for safety. and everyone was confused. but not for one, two, actually six people. not running, walking in a way of a procession. letting themselves to be attacked by the swarm. TRITANIA immediately went to the cabinet and activated LEAD, kicked the door of the MT's (mystic thurge) room, and drag THAULVERN where the action is. as the group was about to run to help, THAULVERN shouts, wait!!! the gnome cast some protective spells on himself. LEAD just watching and thinking it was a standard thing for the gnome, while TRITANIA with a disgusted face sprinted to the attacked group of people. DM: not a quiet night afterall scene 2: special project that same night baron MERRIX of the house cannith held a meeting. MERRIX: WHAT!!! only three! where are the others?! the baron only received an answer of silence. the three who attended the meeting were composed of a gnome, an elf, and a warforge. all three were artificers. while MERRIX tries to control his frustration, he revealed an artifact to the center table. it looks unusual to the three but actually it was a broken broadsword (quite wider than the usual). shattered into five parts. it was brought by his bodyguard the other night together with a young girl that was unconscious. the baron asks the three to find HUDY the master dwarven smith and bring him to the house. MERRIX: someone must bring along this sword handle. somehow this will convince him. the warforge step forward to take the sword handle. MERRIX knows that HUDY is the only one who can forge it back. but he's not interested with the sword. it was the engravings on the blade he is after. as the three artificers were about to leave, he called his favorite guild member VOLTZ (bok2's character) the artificer warforge. gave him three gems just in case he needed some cash to find the dwarf. because HUDY was somehow almost impossible to find. DM: now who could have break that sword? scene 3: what's that? the running shifter, while closing in was too late to save one of the six individuals. as the two huge bats snatched and flew away with the victim. TRITANIA pulled her bow and was about to fire. but was stunned with what she saw. three bigger bats up in the sky probably two times larger than LEAD. one took the victim and dropped it to the ground to its death. TRITANIA instead ask LEAD to help who was left. LEAD: these two are still alive. THAULVERN: quickly while the bats are busy! back to there home, the shifter and the thurge healed them until gained there consciousness. THAULVERN noticed that the two are clerics of the silver flame. and one embracing a box, a chest with holy carving design. the gnome was so interested with the box. TRITANIA slaps the MT's hand and says TRITANIA: no, no, no, will deal with them tomorrow. DM: a box, a chest. what is it really? scene 4: some penny for a query VOLTZ, for a warforge that is quite intelligent than the usual. went to an ale bar to search for HUDY. immediately looked for the bartender and starts to inquire. the artificer gave 10 gp to the bartender and the big dwarf ask VOLTZ to follow him to a private room. the bartender calls his dwarven wife to watch over. while the bigger female dwarf watches over the bar. the two talk inside the private room. bartender: yah nohw diz guy yar lookin forr dazen't reekwest forr eni odhyenz jezz to gev yah en aydiyah. VOLTZ explained that the guild baron MERRIX needs to have a word with HUDY. as everyone knows in sharn and any other places the house cannith is famous for the tyranny of the baron. bartender: ahreyt. weyt hir en di next drankard who brekz in wil direk yah teh heem. jezz mek zyur yah lizen teh heem kerrfuleh. that was the last words of the dwarven bartender as he left the room. a few minutes later another dwarf came in. it sat with the warforge and asks, dwarf intel: det wil be feyb gowl pisez en a feyvah. VOLTZ without any doubt tosses 5 golden coins and the dwarf start telling the directions. VOLTZ asks, what was the favor? and the dwarf replied. nevah tel eniwon bawt diz deh! the drunk intel left the room right after his final phrase. DM: da dwarf sez wha!? scene 5: glittering prizes as the eyes opened for someone expecting death. the clerics speaks, im alive... im in... im in a house? TRITANIA and the others rush to the two clerics. what are doing?! the shifter opens. TRITANIA: didn't your mother told you to go home when its night time?! blah! blah! the gnome and the warforge not moving any inch. as the shifter nags its way. the ambiance all change when TRITANIA ask about the box. one of the cleric thank the group for saving their life as an introduction. first priest: were the clerics of the silver flame. in this box is something valuable to our cause. we need to bring this to church ifmar. second priest: and this is also the reason for the bats to swarm this place. we are warned about this by jaela daran our leader about this scenario. though we haven't got any clue whats inside this box. also our loyalty to serve the silver flame will forever be unblemished. even if the cost is our lives. since the two cleric was certain that they cannot accomplish the task by their own. they ask some assistance from the party. thinking that the swarm of the bats might occur again. the three look at each other with the same thing in mind. TRITANIA speaks once more. TRITANIA: the price is two thousand gold pieces. EACH. and we need a thousand as a down payment. first cleric: we have nothing, not even a brass coin at the moment. but i can guarantee you if you escort us to church ifmar tonight. we will pay you in triple. the three mercenaries with those smiles agreed without hesitation. DM: i guess i cannot call them entrepreneurs. scene 6: half hearted heroes so that night the three mercs escorted the two clerics to church ifmar. luckily the swarm of bats didn't materialize. entering the church, they were welcome by the archbishop REEDY (pronounce as ree-dye). walking all the way to the altar. the mercs were suprised, the altar opened and gave way to an underground stairway. the stairway with excellent architecture was actually a laboratory. TRITANIA starting to doubt the place. as they enter the lab reedy spoken to a couple of lab researchers mostly gnomes. opened the box and showed the mercs a book. the book was too old and most of the pages crumbles as they turn. some of the pages are now dust as REEDY described. the reward for escorting the silver flame priests are given as they promised. but the archbishop has another handsome offer. REEDY: theres a man i need to find. he's famous with the name of "the man with a thousand tales". our intel can lead you to someone who knows this story teller. i can double your previous earnings. you will receive half right away. and the remaining balance after you bring him to me. he must be alive. or else no balance shall be given. the mercs are starting to doubt the church for its handsome rewards. but nonetheless, the three accepted again. they've also received a map and some instructions. and the archbishop's closing phrase. REEDY: never to tell anyone about this conversation. and also this secret chamber. leave now and good luck on your journey. i'll be expecting you all soon. the three in there deep thoughts left the church ifmar as if they're just passerby through the night. DM: i can now imagine why the whole vatican city is made of marble DM: aizhel15 unfortunately cannot join these following sessions. due to an urgent business meeting. the DM, thats me will have to make some minor adjustment in the campaign. that means changing the challenge rating and the dungeon setup. and that is impromptu unfortunately. and there will be no special or solo campaign for TRITANIA. scence 7: unexpected expectations the next day. VOLTZ looking for the dwarven master smith. with directions he hoped it will bring him there. he reached a place located at the back of the meat market. he found a small shack. as he enters he found a very old crippled dwarf on a wheelchair. HUDY: watde? who er yah? why er yah hir? watya want? aym bezey? the artificer presented the sword handle to HUDY. the item stuns the dwarf and learns that the warforge is serious and explained the whole thing. HUDY: weh heb eh slayt prablum. bet det wil beh teken keroff. VOLTZ: what is the problem? HUDY: aye.. aye, ey donev di hemur. bet dets ahayt. kemin, kemin. so the two enters the shack. and VOLTZ saw two more individuals. DM: neh... the introduction went quite smoothly. HUDY: ahayt... yehtuh nid teh fayn da man. en yew nid teh feeks dez bled. yeh boyz er lukeh. fer doz tuh erat dezem plez. THAULVERN: what do you mean they're at the same place. HUDY drew something on a piece of parchment. and explain how the illustration goes. DM: a smith that can draw. im suprised! scene 8: operation: ol' man's hammer while the dwarf explains the map in the background. the three are already trekking. they're headed to the city of the dead. the cemetary to be exact. HUDY: yewl fayn eh monyewmental tewb etde zenter ofde zemeterih. onde tewb yewl fayn de kiy tew fayn eh pazeywey. frow der yer on yer ewn. THAULVERN searched the tomb and found some writings at the bottom. the gnome deciphers it three times until decrypted. they've found out that the writings is a riddle. VOLTZ figured it out. and VOLTZ ask the gnome to whistle. because according to the artificer that's the answer. so THAULVERN whistled and suddenly and east wind blew the sound to the westside of the cemetary. the three followed sound until they've reached a very old workshop that is connected via a wooden bridge from the burial grounds. LEAD: well this is the last place the whistle could lead us. approaching the bridge there was a message board. warning: condemned area. the three had no other option but to cross the wooden bridge. looking down through the river under the bridge.they've noticed there is no water flowing. reaching the end of the bridge. VOLTZ: how come the garden here is still fresh even there is no water in the area. the water fountain at the middle is totally dry. while the artificer observes the garden. five objects rushing to them. bushes shaped like animals attacked the three adventurers. DM: whacking time!!! combat scene 1: bushwhacking VOLTZ checking out the water fountain didn't notice one big topiary guardian closing in. the thurge activated the boots of levitaion to avoid the ambush. LEAD prepared his sword and shield to counterattack. and was surrounded with three small and one big topiary guardian. the gnome was no where in sight. and the artificer before noticing, the big guardian already scored a claw on him. THAULVERN not worrying about any damage taking, casts protective spell on LEAD. while VOLTZ almost staggered with the one on one, needs to run away for repairs. LEAD swings his sword and one by one the guadians fell down like a gardener trimming down the bushes. VOLTZ tried to fry the guardian for the last time. but it seems the monster is to much for the artificer. as LEAD trimmed his opponents, rush to help the other warforge to finalized the combat. DM: somebody looking for gardener's? scene 9: horror house after cleaning off the obstacle. the three headed to the old workshop. the two storey building is really old. and almost likely to collapse. nevertheless, they continue. the first floor has two room were VOLTZ found two secret lever in an upward position in one room. but before they try to pull. THAULVERN: wait!!! the two warforge looked at the gnome as it cast some protective spells on himself. while the warforges were about to pull the levers down. they've heard a flapping noise at the second floor. at the time the levers were pulled down. a grinding sound below. thinking the building is about to collapse. walking out of the room. the three discovered another stairway, going underground. VOLTZ: lets check whats up there first, before we head underground LEAD agreed, and the thurge right behind him waiting for VOLTZ investigation. VOLTZ at the second floor facing a closed door. THAULVERN ask VOLTZ to peep on the keyhole first. as the artificer looked through the hole. VOLTZ: an expeditious messenger?! VOLTZ opened the door and the messenger speaks. HOMUNCULUS: good day VOLTZ! MERRIX sent me to ask you a question. VOLTZ: what is it? HOMUNCULUS: why didn't you report back? MERRIX was worried. VOLTZ: i send someone to inform MERRIX about that. anyway im fine. we just need to checkout something. DM: scary bird. oohh!!! scene 10: getting deeper VOLTZ decided to head for underground since there is nothing important in the second floor. LEAD went ahead and the gnome. THAULVERN: you guys go ahead ill just wait for you two outside ok. the thurge had no chance of avoiding the journey as the warforges drag him down. going deep to the underground floor. there where two paths. the passageway is built with typical bricks. LEAD requested to go left, so the three went that direction. they've found a room with a statue of a former undying court judge. a judge that was famous for his capital punishments. LEAD: i think that's the hammer. yes the statue has a hammer. LEAD decided to whack the arm so they can get have the hammer and continue along to the other path to the dungeon. heading to the other path, they found a room of digging tools and a stairway going deeper. the party continued and found a ladder descending deeper and ended to a ground of dirt. LEAD in a kind of rush. scared about the collapsing building says. LEAD: lets go to that room and get those digging tools. as they dig. VOLTZ hit something with his shovel. its a round metal (like the ones on your sewers). VOLTZ think it seems like a door of some kind. so the twin titans tried to open up the so called door. looking at THAULVERN, they saw him vomiting. the gnome inhaled the stench of the opening. THAULVERN: its smells like rotten stuff. eehhhww. its an old torture prison cell where all prisoner is dead already. but where's the man they're searching for? the artificer having that rouge ability. stumbles to a secret lock on one side of the cell. opening the secret lock. the party heard another griding sound on the other end. LEAD rushed to the opening and saw the hidden chamber. LEAD found an old man imprisoned near to death. suddenly the whole place starts to rumble. without hesitation LEAD bend the bars open. carried the old man and trying to exit out to safety. but the three were seized to see three heavily armored units closing in on them. DM: gonna munch some crackers. combat scene 2: hold the line!!! LEAD place the old man to a safe place and prepared his weapon. THAULVERN casts protective spell on himself. VOLTZ does the same with the potions. the dungeon rumbling once more like it was a weak earthquake. as the enemy units about to face the confrontation. the party found out that they were karrnathi skeletons. VOLTZ noticed there were two more on both left and right flanks. LEAD headed for the undead from the left. the gnome unleashed some magic missiles from his wand. the artificer readied his bow. the karrnathi's holding the exit are. while the other two fired their bows to its rivals. LEAD diced one undead and cleaved the other. THAULVERN turn's undead. (using the optional rule, turning damage) VOLTZ fired away a couple of arrows. the party thinking they've cleared all who oposed. three more jumped out of the exit area. LEAD and VOLTZ flanked the three through the hallway and swings their swords away. and the karrnathi's have failed to hold the door leading to the exit. the party powdered every undead found in their way immediately exited the building before it wrecked down. DM: now that's ol'school pulverizing!!! scene 11: the retrieval mission was a success. the party got both the tale man and HUDY's hammer. the master smith was so happy to see the old man noticed by VOLTZ. the dwarf immediately asking for the hammer, told VOLTZ that it would be better to bring the sword to him. VOLTZ agreed and went back to house cannith to tell MERRIX about the news. HUDY looking back to LEAD and the thurge ask them to be back for about a week. because the dwarf needs some time to heal the old man and forging the sword will take a few more days... DM: alls well ends well, they think. |

| THE_VESPER03-25-05, 09:29 AM | the_vesper: Hey guys! It's now my turn in the DM's chair, so I hope you like my story too. Here goes.... DM: the_vesper Players: aizhel15 as Tritania TatteredGlyph as Thaulvern BOK2 as Wolfric (he was Volts in a previous campaign) justiceblade as Randy (he played Ricochet before) Characters: Tritania Moonkiss/ NG female shifter /ranger6 weretouched master3 Thaulvern Brinehands/ N male gnome/ cleric3 illusionist3 mystic theurge3 Wolfric (not his real name)/ N male changeling/ fighter4 warshaper3 dervish1 Randy “the wanderer” Stormtower/ CN male human/ rogue 5 thief acrobat 2 Prologue Tritania was loving the domestic life, her sabbatical from adventuring gave her time to take care of her ward Yra, she even devoted some of her well earned loot to provide for the girl’s formal schooling. The shifter child is now a scholar in the famous Morgrave University and is now in undergoing training to be a wizard. Tritania is so proud because the professors are enthusiastic about Yra’s performance so far that they predict that in due time, the girl would be the youngest to graduate and become a full pledged wizard, an outstanding feat even for a shifter. For now Tritania is content on playing the role of a parent to her young foundling. LEAD on the other hand didn’t like the idea of living a sedentary lifestyle and continued to do some adventuring with another group for sometime, in fact he was with Thaulvern in a misadventure recently (see justiceblade’s campaign). But lately LEAD underwent some sort of external change in his physiology that so far he kept secret from his friends. He was doing routine repair work on his body one night and the strangest thing happened, his body grew adamantine spikes, taking the place of his previously bolted armor spikes. This made LEAD wonder what was happening to him, still he admitted that the adamantine armor spikes could prove useful, though he still thought it was weird. Then he remembered the voice that urged him to leave his friends. That voice was still echoing in his mind, pronouncing a litany about the inferiority of the flesh bound races and exalted that of the construct. Although the voice was just some distant memory, it gnawed at him relentlessly these past few hours, LEAD was now reliving some forgotten scene full of violence being administered by a hulking warforged (which he realized was him but altered) to some hapless victims, victims that resembled his friends. The visions played over and over in his head until he couldn’t take it anymore, he just willed himself to shut the terrible nightmare from his mind and to remove the knowledge that he is capable of doing such atrocities to his allies. Just as the visions appeared, it suddenly vanished, LEAD didn’t like the experience. He wanted to solve this mystery alone because he was afraid that his premonitions would come true. LEAD decided to get his answers straight from the source. He was last seen going east, destination…the Mournlands. Ricochet the dashing elven rogue was last seen plummeting from a great height and was in great distress for he was falling directly towards an open sewer hole which by witness accounts leads to the Sharn Depths. He’s been missing ever since. Thaulvern Brinehands was distressed upon learning that he was getting low on financial reserves, and if he doesn’t do anything about it, he would face imminent bankruptcy. He always considered himself a self made gnome, who by his own wit, and industriousness made a name for himself and became a well accomplished adventurer and as a sideline a fabricator of magical items of promising skill. The gold he got from his adventuring stint was wisely invested in the production minor magical items that he sold to gain profit, which in turn he used to purchase more powerful items. For Thaulvern loved nothing else than to possess potent devices to augment his arsenal of arcane and divine spells. But this obsession had a drawback that the gnome didn’t foresee. He was so intent on purchasing so many magical items lately that he neglected to go adventuring (which is the major source of the funds he uses to buy all the latest gadgets that enters the market). So he opted to resume his adventuring to replenish his dwindling funds, but first he must be reacquainted with his old friends. So the gnome packed his gear, hailed a skycoach and urged the driver to take him to Middle Dura, knowing that somehow his friends could aid him resolve his current dilemma. Session 1: thicker than water 998 YK 1st day in the month of Nym Thaulvern paid the skycoach driver and immediately disembarked, He was excited to see his old companions after being estranged for some time. Tritania was doing laundry on the balcony of her two storey house. The gnome greeted the shifter and the latter hurriedly came down to meet him. After the pleasantries was over the gnome suggested that it was high time that they took to adventuring again, ”The drudgery of life in the relative safety of the city is slowly dulling our skills don’t you think?”, Thaulvern pointed out. ”I like the way it is going for Yra and me right now.”, Tritania replied. ”Huh, Yra, you and LEAD you mean.” the gnome interjected. ”No, just us girls. LEAD wanted to go away for some reason, and he didn’t bother to tell us why or where, so we let him go.” The gnome sensed something was wrong between his friends but he didn’t want to force the issue so he asked Tritania again if she was willing to go adventuring with him again sans their warforged ally. “Vernie are you in trouble or something, why the sudden urge to go adventuring?” Thaulvern admitted that he just needed to earn some amount to finance his next project. Tritania asked what happened to all the loot he had in his last romp, the gnome said he used them all up to buy new magical items, pointing at his backpack which was definitely full to the brim with an assortment of rods, wands and other stuff the shifter figured indeed cost a small fortune. The shifter understood the gnome’s plight, but decided that seeking danger just to find treasure was all in her past now, and she had a responsibility to Yra now, so she declined, and suggested that Thaulvern sell some of his gear to end his money troubles. The gnome would rather amputate his arm than to part with his beloved magical items, so selling them was out of the question, Besides he would lose more money that way because he would get half price for each. Then all of a sudden a be-spectacled gargoyle flew down from the upper tiers and landed beside the gnome, it said “Are you Brinehands, Thaulvern?”, “Yes, I am he.” the gnome replied. The House Vadalis courier gargoyle fished a small wooden box from the pack strapped to its chest along with leather bound folder. “Sign here please.” the gargoyle said as it offered the gnome a pen and the folder. Thaulvern promptly signed the ledger and received the box, after which the gargoyle flapped its massive pinions and took to the air. “Who’s it from?” Tritania inquired, the gnome just opened the box and found a letter with a wax seal imprinted with some strange emblem. As well as a signet ring familiar to Thaulvern’s eyes. The gnome read the missive and his face became grim. “Well?”, Tritania’s eyes was full of anticipation. “Apparently, I’m being invited to attend and try to prove my brother’s innocence in a trial 2 weeks from now, he’s accused of theft & instigating strife, if found guilty he’ll be hanged…the problem is the arraignment is in Q’barra.” Tritania took pity on Thaulvern, and decided to accompany him on his quest to save his brother (a reason that she found noble enough cause for her to be persuaded to go). She first sent a massage to Yra that she would be gone for a while to help uncle Vernie. The gnome assessed his options, travel by land even by lightning rail would take to long (besides the rails doesn’t go as far as endworld mountains), by ship there’s a possibility that they still wouldn’t make it in time because there was an impending storm coming. The only quick way was by teleportation or airship travel. The gnome along with Tritania found out that airships bound for Q’barra would take them roughly 6 days travel but would cost them 3000 gp each for the fare alone. The teleport spell is much affordable but the people they found (on such short notice) capable of casting it either never been to Q’barra or was somewhere else at the moment. So airship travel was the only option left. Thaulvern was losing hope he was short on funds and couldn’t well afford the ship’s fee, and he was still reluctant to sell his items even for his brother sake. So he devised a scheme to earn some quick cash in the least amount of time possible,”I have an idea, it’s time to call in some favors.” Thaulvern’s brother is a dragonmarked member of House Sivis, and under normal circumstances was entitled the House’ full protection, so the gnome went to the enclave and asked for assistance. Unfortunately House Sivis is not as influential in New Galifar Q’barra as they would expect, so Thaulvern settled for getting a loan, enough to buy him the airship’s passengers fee for one person only. So he sent a message to his family in Zilargo (the father side) to amass the necessary funds needed to save one of its scions. 2 days later after much convincing and string pulling, Thaulvern received the letter of credit from Zilargo (by way of courier) which was enough to buy him another ticket for the ship’s passage. YK 998 3rd day in the month of Nym Worried but still full of hope, Thaulvern and Tritania went to the airship docks and tried to find a ship destined for Newthrone Q’barra. “You’ve just missed it sir, the next one would arrive here just before lunch and depart 2 hours after.” a dockhand informed them. So they just went to a tavern to have early lunch and wait for the ship to arrive. Wolfric in the guise of a male human was lighting his cigar when he heard a commotion in a nearby alley, his curiosity took him to the scene and found three thugs beating up what appears to be a ship crewman. Wolfric, taking good care not to make his presence known resisted the urge to get involved but his sense of honor got the best of him. The thugs were forcing the sailor to give them all his money but upon seeing that he had only 10 silver coins (the thugs expected more since the sailor just got back from a voyage) one of the miscreants got mad, produced a hidden dagger and stabbed the poor sailor. Wolfric was just about to confront the thieves when one of them spotted him and called for his cohorts to run away, which they did. Wolfric was torn wether to pursue the criminals or help the victim. Hearing the man’s pitiful groaning, the war veteran went to the prone sailor’s aid instead, but saw that the latter already lost too much blood. The sailor clutched Wolfric’s cloak and handed him a gold locket, the man’s dying wish was that if it were possible, to restore the trinket to his wife and daughter, then he expired. Wolfric closed the man’s eyes and solemnly swore to do just that since he thought the sailor lived within Sharn. He got the sailors identification papers and immediately knew that his purported task if not daunting was costly for the sailor lived in Q’barra. Wolfric scolded himself for sticking his nose in other peoples business, but alas he already gave his word, and was not about to deny the dead man’s last request. The fighter finally decided to have lunch since he was getting hungry and he would ponder thing more clearly with a full stomach. He went in side the Bent Wing Tavern and ask the wench for some food, he examined the sailor’s identification compact and found out that he went by the name of Laresh Kutch and was a crewmember of the cargo/passenger vessel named Cloud Lancer. Tritania and Thaulvern were eating their lunch when two cloaked men entered the tavern. The first to enter sat near the window and the other one looked ragged and seemed to come from somewhere very remote for his attire was not commonplace. He went directly to their table and stared intently at their meal. Tritania would’ve swatted the derelict with her hand axe, but Thaulvern stilled her hand and whispered “I think he’s just crazy, just don’t mind him and he’ll hopefully go away.”. He reached for his pocket and tossed some spare change towards the vagrant, and continued his repast. Wolfric thought that what better way to return the dead man’s belongings than to surrender it to the ship’s captain. But he realized that the circumstances of the murder would also implicate him for he was the only witness thus he’s also the only suspect. Frustrated, he threw the identification compact out a nearby window and just ate his meal and quietly thought of other ways to fulfill his promise. The derelict gingerly examined the silver coins and proceeded to the adjacent table, calling the serving girl, he ordered a pound of meatloaf and a tankard of ale. The wandering rogue Randy Stormtower knew that his disguise worked, and these so-called city folks didn’t have a clue that he tricked them into buying him a free meal. “Ah, Sharn meatloaf sure is tasty!”, Randy said to himself. Tritania kept her hand axe on her lap just to make clear her intent, the moment the crazy human approach her again, there would be trouble. Thaulvern’s attention was focused on the other human, he sensed that this one was oblivious to the derelict’s antics and was currently preoccupied at examining an identification compact. Then all of a sudden the the stranger threw the identification compact out of the window for some reason. The gnome sensed something amiss, so he excused himself politely to Tritania and went out. The gnome located the discarded identification compact at an adjoining alley, right beside the prone form of the dead airship crewman. “Hmm, so that guy’s some sort of assassin, the authorities must be informed of this.” Thaulvern saw a pair of law enforcers and caught their attention using his ghost sound spell. “ He took the necessary precaution of hiding first else he becomes implicated for the murder himself. Content of his handiwork, Thaulvern thought of ways to turn this situation into one that will benefit him the most. Back at the tavern, Tritania was getting impatient, Thaulvern was taking too long and Randy the weird vagrant was looking at her intently. Wolfric the silent swordsman placed his feet on the table and was about to lightt a cigar but the proprietor politely told him that smoking was not allowed indoors so he promptly went outside obviously incensed, just then Thaulvern went back in, he paused momentarily as he let the fuming Wolfric pass by him out the door. The gnome told Tritania what he discovered about the brooding stranger who just left, and made her promise to keep a wary eye about other “assassins” in the vicinity. Tritania’s neck hair pricked up, these talk of assassins lurking about was putting her on edge. Then she abruptly looked behind her to where the derelict was, but all she saw was an empty table. 2 hours past noon the porters were announcing the arrival of the A.S. (air ship) Cloud Lancer, the cargo/passenger vessel was relatively new, made as well as designed in Zilargo and was powered by a bound fire elemental. This was the first time Tritania was going to ride on one so she was a bit nervous, Thaulvern assured her that she’ll get used to it, so the two heroes quickly made their way to the loading deck to board the ship, after showing their tickets to some ship officer. The Cloud Lancer was a magnificent vessel, painstakingly made by dedicated gnomish artisans, the ship exuded splendid engineering and function, it also had an aerodynamically sleek look (it vaguely resembles a marine swordfish) to cut through the air more efficiently. Four crescent shaped fins protruded from its sides a pair at the bottom and an opposing pair at the top. The fins had holes on their tips which radiated a visible halo of blue eldritch light. A torus of fire intersected the holes and rhythmically moved in a circular pattern making the length of the ship as its axis. This was the secret of air travel, for the torus was a fire elemental bound to the ship by the series of circles of protection situated on the fins, thus the fins are also called fetters. Helmed by Captain Maura Brasslock who was working for the Lyrandar conglomerate during the war, until one day she made enough money to purchase her own ship and have her own crew. The privateer captain was no taller than Thaulvern and was about the same age, though she didn’t look it. She greeted the passengers personally and urged them to take there seats on the passenger deck. Making sure that all cargo and passengers was on board the Captain gave the command to launch. The first mate Gauban, a tall fair skinned human who had uncharacteristically white hair, informed the captain that one of her crew members failed to report during roster call, so the departure was to be delayed further until the man comes back. Mildly irritated the Captain told him to man the helm until she comes back, apparently she was going to look for her sailor personally. Wolfric leaned on a post overlooking the docking area, the smoke from his cigar made spiral tendrils through his hood. Both his hands rested on two protruding pommels of his adamantine scimitars whose scabbards were strapped to his thighs. He was still thinking about how he would get to Newthrone, and deliver the blasted amulet to the sailor’s family. Then he saw a ship arrive, and by his good fortune it was destined for Q’barra. Not having enough gold for the ship’s passage was going to be a problem, so he thought of getting on the ship unnoticed, but at that moment, too many people were about so he just have to bide his time. “Things I’d do just to fulfill a stupid vow!” he said to himself, with that he spat his spent cigar and lighted another one. Randy Stormtower, doffed his derelict disguise and wore his usual brown cloak, he checked the straps of his upside down scabbard that held the gleaming shortsword diagonally at his back. His burnished chain shirt cleverly hidden in a tailored black leather tunic, He washed his face in a rain barrel and whistled his way nonchalantly down the port area where he recognized the brooding swordsman (who was then leaning on a rusty post while facing a nearby airship) by the smoke that issued forth from the heavy hood he wore low. The rogue thought that something was about to take place, so he went to a lamp post himself and mirrored what the swordsman was doing. Thaulvern overheard the exchange between the captain and the first mate, and made a comment regarding that some people value time too. Getting the message the gnome captain decided to go on with the launch immediately, though she was upset that her crewman was still missing. Gauban told the captain if she was alright, and offered to take the helm if need be. Maura shrugged and proceeded to start the ship (a process in which she makes a contest of will opposed to the bound elemental). By chance of ill fate coupled by her distress regarding the missing sailor- the fire elemental won the test of will. The upper right hand fetter issued a keening sound that resounded with an audible pop, like the sound of a glass bubble bursting. The bluish eldritch ring on the upper right hand fetter was broken and dimmed to nothingness. A tendril of flame spiraled forth from the riven fin and blasted the wood into splinters of ember. A sudden explosion filled the ship’s deck and dark smoke rose from the conflagration. The flaming torus was missing and was replaced by a pillar of crackling flames 15 feet high that blazed menacingly. Thaulvern uncannily quick, produced a dull colored rod and his usual wand of magic missiles. He screwed the two items together and made an implement akin to a short cane which he pointed straight at the raging elemental. Five globes of purple hued light sped toward the fire elemental and struck unerringly(dealing a monstrous amount of damage), causing the monster to face the Thaulvern’s direction. In retaliation the elemental poured a horizontal pillar of fire from within itself at the offending gnome. A concussive wave of fire hit Thaulvern square on his chest. Smoke made his eyes wet as small flames licked his coat. Tritania bared her fangs as she drew her handaxe and approached the elemental, another blazing appendage burst forth to catch her as she closed the distance. Possessing the agility of a tigress on the hunt she easily dodged the scorching limb. She felt her handaxe bite deep into the elementals mass and gave a triumphant snarl, But the fight wasn’t over, the elemental seemed more agitated and Tritania noticed her whiskers turning into little charred beads. The ships fire elemental got lose and was now on a rampage, Wolfric almost swallowed his cigar in disbelief. He fought elementals in his day, but nothing compared to what he witnessed in there. He thought it was none of his business so he hesitated, just then he saw the gnome who looked at him funny this morning going toe to toe with the monster. Something in him couldn’t accept the fact that the twirp would outstage him in this encounter, so he flicked the cigar stub away in the same moment he drew his composite longbow released a volley of arrows. The missiles didn’t burn quickly enough so it made considerate damage. Randy, dumbstruck couldn’t decide what to do first, ran towards the rain barrel near the tavern. Thaulvern sidestepped to a better position and released another barrage of the fatal purple globes, each making visible holes on the elementals torso. The elemental was furious so he directed his full attention towards the gnome. Two swirling flames burst forth from the monsters body as before, Thaulvern dodged the first one but got hit by the next as he resumed his stance. His coat was burning from a dozen places but he paid it no heed. Tritania was so intent on protecting her friend that she released her inner beast and went on a rampage herself. A flurry of attacks to quick to be followed by the naked eye, struck the elemental from all directions it seemed, all the monster could do was to wait in disbelief until the pain stops. In her anger Tritania was about to bite the elemental’s fiery form, but Thaulvern warned her to desist unless she wants to go out of this with a burnt tongue. The shifter ended her assault and crouched, her body trailing smoke. Wolfric couldn’t believe what the shifter has done, “She is definitely crazy! Doesn’t she know that she’ll only get herself immolated if she fights that close to a fire elemental?” he said to himself. But he admired her guts if not her sense. Wolfric let lose more arrows. Each one finding a weak spot on the monster’s huge torso. The elemental was beginning to unravel, its form couldn’t sustain more damage, but it managed to continue. Randy came back from the alley, carrying a barrel full of rainwater, he got close enough to douse the monster but was interrupted as blasts of purple energy ate through the monsters body in quick succession. The fire elemental stepped back, sustaining massive amounts of damage in such a short time, it decided to escape to probably live and ponder about what it did wrong. But Tritania (who was now a vision of pure fury and relentless violence) wouldn’t let this thing go, She surrendered herself to the bloodlust and hacked and lunged at the elemental with abandon. The elemental disappeared in a ball of ember and smoke. The monster was defeated, Wolfric produced another cigar and proceeded to light it using the elemental’s remaining embers. He inhaled deeply and proudly announced, ”We would have done it differently in the old days, but your style worked too, so who am I to judge...” and quickly introduced himself to the shifter. “The name’s Wolfric, a swordsman. I’ve searched far and wide for people of your caliber to go on adventures with. If it pleases you I would like to offer my services.” Tritania brushed the charred patches of fur on her skin and resumed her normal form, then said “The archery was good, I don’t know about how good you are with those swords though, since you never drew them.” A bead of sweat trickled down Wolfric’s brow.”Ah that, It’s just that I’m saving it for the really tough fights, seeing that you handled that brute easily, I thought that there was no need to display my prowess with the blades.” ,”Yeah right!” Thaulvern snapped. Randy still holding the barrel of rainwater, washed the place where the fire elemental died. And scurried toward the ship and hid in the cargo hold (no one paid him much attention since they were too busy tending the damage to the ship). Captain Maura was so thankful that she offered the heroes a boon, she would give the trio free passage the next time they embarked on her ship. Thaulvern was grateful for such a generous offer, but he was still crestfallen for he realized that the ship was still missing an elemental. The gnome captain said not too worry too much for she had an extra bound elemental in her hangar, and it would only cost them another 4 hours before she can fetch and install it. With that she called Gauban to come with her and left. The delay was inconvenient at most but Thaulvern thanked his luck because nothing relatively drastic happened. While waiting he still couldn’t forget what he discovered in the alley and was itching to confirm his suspicions about the mysterious swordsman. But the gnome realized that he should be wary and not make Wolfric suspect that he already knew, he decided to bide his time and wait to catch this assassin at an opportune moment. The captain and her first mate came back after 3 hours, the latter carrying a large dark blue crystalline orb. Thaulvern explained to his fellows that, that crystal was a Khyber dragonshard which served as containment for the elemental that they are going to bind to the ship. Gauban replaced the old Shard and made some necessary adjustments, so as to attune the new engine so to speak. And finally anew torus of flame made a circuit to the ship’s four fins, Gauban declared that they’ were ready to go. While the crew was busy mending above deck, the sneaky rogue Randy Stormtower found himself a nice spot in the cargo hold, particularly the food storage, and ate as much as he could. YK 998 6th day in the month of Nym The captain informed the passengers that the storm would make their journey hazardous so she suggested that they brace themselves for she planned to take them higher into the atmosphere to avoid the looming thunderheads directly in front of them. The Cloud Lancer sliced through as it ascended even further, until they reached a suitable altitude above the clouds. A radiant sun greeted them as they exited a cloud bank, the sound of thunder and falling rain still audible beneath them. The altitude made some of them dizzy, so the Captain explained its because of the thin air in this altitude and assured them that its all but temporary, because the moment they pass the storm they would descend at a more comfortable height. Tritania, unaccustomed to air travel couldn’t help but lose her lunch every time the ship pitched or rolled, Thaulvern just sat in a corner and kept a wary eye on the mysterious swordsman. Wolfric killed time sharpening his scimitars, while bellow deck, the wily Randy slept amidst the cargo. All was well, until a greenish dorsal fin like that of a huge shark cut through the clouds, the bat winged monster arose from the cover of the clouds and emitted a high intensity shriek from a lance like horn protruding from its eyeless reptilian head before diving again. The sonic bolt struck Captain Maura for she was caught unawares, and she lay unconscious beside the helm. Without someone to guide the elemental, the ship stopped its flight and hovered in mid air. The heroes quickly ran for weapons and waited for the monster to reappear. Gauban told the others that they faced the dreaded yrthak, a rare aerial predator but occasionally hunted around these parts. Wolfric was the first to see the monster reemerge, he shot two arrows and wounded the creature, Tritania did the same on her turn. Thaulvern frantically whipped out his metamagic rod, attached a wand of scorching ray, he let lose a searing line of flame which almost missed, but because of his uncanny luck, hit nevertheless as the yrthak veered away. Mortally wounded the yrthak couldn’t sustain its flight and dropped from the sky. The mystic theurge blew eldritch smoke from his deadly rod/wand contraption. Randy wearing a sailors uniform came into view, he was apparently administering first aid to the wounded captain. Gauban was relieved that Captain Maura was alright. 998 YK 8th day in the month of Nym The airship landed in the port of Newthrone. The heroes disembarked and was told by the grateful Captain Maura that she would be leaving late in the after noon and would be back to Q’barra in 6 days, she told them that Gauban would stay in Newthrone because he will take charge in collecting more cargo from their clients here until she comes back. Thaulvern was anxious to get to where his brother was, for he only had 5 days before the trial, and he wanted to get to the bottom of this whole predicament. Tritania was assigned to search for a suitable inn and from out of the blue Randy Stormtower sans his sailor disguise volunteered to go with her, Tritania thinking he was a local guide didn’t argue. The gnome went with Wolfric to the local Jail where his brother was detained, but was not permitted to enter until he secured a permit from the Barristers’ Office. After acquiring the necessary documents Thaulvern finally got to see Huxferd face to face. Huxferd was held in an oubliette, a type of prison cell whose way of egress and exit was located on its ceiling. So Thaulvern crouched from above as he called his now sleeping brother. The bard/paladin was manacled to the wall and wore a tattered tunic, his brown hair in disarray. He woke up upon hearing a familiar voice. “Huxferd, why do you have to involve me whenever you get into trouble?”, Thaulvern scolded. “Big brother I knew you would come, I’m sorry, but things got out of hand.”. Huxferd told the story about how he and his party of adventurers consisting of Rauwn, Strugnar, and Aranthiel (a halfling barbarian, half-orc ranger, and an elven sorceress respectively) was in a diplomatic/research mission in Ka’rhashan. “We were there to witness the lizardfolk dinosaur hunting contest, a ritual the tribes do annually to test the prowess of there young warriors. All was going smoothly, until the time we got back to Newthrone a week after. A caravan was attacked by the BloodClaws (a branch of the ColdSun Lizardfolk Tribe) and witnesses said that it was retaliation of some sort, because outsiders desecrated their burial grounds and stole something sacred to them. In short the lizardfolk tribes are going to harass the settlers repeatedly until their relic is returned, rumors has it that the tribes are planning to attack en masse and this misunderstanding would escalate into a full pledged war.”Huxferd wiped his brow then continued, ”The local authorities implicated us to avoid trouble and appease the folk, we were the ones who were in the lizardfolk lands lately they said, they told us to return the missing relic or else we would be relegated to the tribe’s jurisdiction. Strugnar was the first to be sacrificed to the folk, and Rauwn was taken afterwards, Aranthiel managed to escape and was missing ever since. I’m sad to say that I’m the only one left and would be sacrificed to the lizardfolk once they finished my mock trial 5 days from now, help me brother you’re my last hope.” Thaulvern assessed the situation and started to form a workable plan and said to his brother, ”Alright, I’ll find a way to get you out of this mess Huxferd, but promise me to avoid this kind of thing in the future, and before I forget, you owe me 6,000 gp!” with that Thaulvern left and rejoined his party in a local inn. He discussed what happened and told them to search for clues regarding the missing relic in Ka’rhashan itself. But they found out that it would take them a long time to traverse the forest that divided the lizardfolk city from Newthrone. And they were pressed for time, so they decided to take a shortcut to Whitecliff town by river and cross the forest from there to Ka’rhashan. Thaulvern estimated that it would cost them approximately a day to reach Whitecliff, and would be at Ka’rhashan before nightfall the next day. The team acquired a guide and proceeded with their plan. Who better would know the way to the lizardfolk city than a local who lives there himself, so the party got a lizardfolk guide named Yellow (in reference to his head fin that was bright yellow). At first Wolfric was hesitant, especially when the guide named his price, a hefty 5 gp per day of travel, but Thaulvern was so intent on getting the mission over with so he agreed. As expected it took them a whole day to reach Whitecliff by way of a river barge ride, and they immediately followed Yellow through the thickly foliated Q’barran jungle. 998 YK 9th day in the month of Nym They where trudging to semi-muddy terrain for it just recently rained, giving Thaulvern a hard time though he didn’t complain. Tritania glad to be on land after her not so good experience in the airship, seemed to enjoy the hike. Wolfric held his hood low while puffing his customary cigar. Randy Stormtower followed them from behind and mostly kept to himself. Trees that reached spectacular heights canopied the jungle floor with perpetual shade. The sound of insects hiding in the brush formed into a continuous din. Yellow lead the team at an easy pace so that his current employers can keep up with him. Then Yellow’s head fin stood on end, he seemed agitated, because the jungle was suddenly awfully quiet. Yellow was about to alert his clients to beware when out of a curtain of tangled vines burst a massive saurian head filled with dagger sized teeth which bit onto the hapless lizardfolk. All that was left of the guide was his quivering lower extremities, his body from the waste up was swallowed in one quick gulp, blood sprayed everywhere as tyrannosaurus rex swayed its head side to side and unleashed a tremendous roar that shook the leaves from the trees. Tritania drew her composite longbow and took a shot at the huge predator, the t-rex was wounded but didn’t seem to mind the injury. Wolfric quickly positioned himself between the monster and gnome as he drew his two scimitars. Randy Stormtower jumped through the bushes and disappeared, Thaulvern cast an enlarge person spell on Wolfric, making the swordsman double in size. The t-rex took a bite at Wolfric which could’ve been lethal if the swordsman was still his regular size. The shifter shot two arrows again, hitting the beast’s flank. With a large wound on his shoulder the ogre sized Wolfric thought of charging the t-rex to end the fight quicker, when he realized that the beast might land a bite upon his approach, so he stood his ground and let his arm stretch and close the 15 foot distance (a testament to his warshaper training). He made a vicious cut with his large scimitar which made the t-rex bellow in pain. Randy was still nowhere in sight. Thaulvern couldn’t believe what Wolfric just did, but seeing the gash on the swordsman’s shoulder, the gnome dropped his wand of magic missiles and replaced it with his scorching ray wand. A familiar keening sound issued forth from the wand attached to his maximize spell rod, and a lance of blazing fire blasted through the t-rex’ tough hide. The t-rex never felt pain this excruciating in its entire life, his hunger replaced by fury. The t-rex lunged at the gnome, gaping maw bent on delivering a fatal bite, the gnome bucked as the ravenous wall of incisors that lined the monster’s mouth almost lopped his head off. But fortunately he managed to duck but the surging teeth caught his boot and dug to his leg, the gnome screamed as the t-rex flipped him to the air and was about to swallow him whole, when out of the shadows a blurry form rammed a gleaming shortsword in the t-rex’ gut. Steaming dinosaur viscera spilled on the jungle floor. Randy Stormtower’s face was drenched in blood, he flourished his shortsword to get rid of the gore and quickly placed it in its sheathe. The whole party was impressed, mainly Tritania, who didn’t expect such displays of calculated brutality coming from the newcomer. end of session 1 the_vesper: Stranded in the Q’barran jungle with no guide and no map, the band of misfits couldn’t help but take second thoughts. Time was running out and things were not going the way they planned. At least they had plenty of food…T-rex steak anyone? :P |
| TatteredGlyph03-25-05, 10:53 AM | The_Vesper -> Great work! You got the the four characters' personalities in one blow! But please edit the rod/wand synergy part. Thaulvern was casting his spells directly with the rod's aid. The corerules god may get angry... and BOK2 too. (And besides... even if it is legal... casting directly is much cheaper...... So how much gold are we going to get next session?) :) BOK2 -> Just kidding. My character is casting the spells directly... honest. [shows character sheet] :D Cool character by the way. Those cigars can kill him though. aizhel15 -> Great having to adventure with Tritania again. Those bites are real killers. justiceblade -> Nice kill on the t-rex. Too bad didn't see you... it was dark in the dinosaur's belly... :( |

Kessa first met Wulfric as a child crying over the corpse of his parents, who together with a small group of refugees, were slaughtered by marauders from droam. The former Valenar weapons master took pity on the young changeling and took him in as her adoptive son. Under Kessa's tutelage, Wulfric learned the language of elves and gnomes (he was a natural linguist), how to survive in the wilds (his survival skills are average) and most importantly how to defend himself using the curved blades favored by the valenar (his favorite subject). Life in the mountains was hard for the young changeling but nevertheless he enjoyed his time there. When Wulfric was sixteen, he asked Kessa about the humanoids from Droam and why no one was stopping them from raiding and killing the villagers near the greywall mountains. "It's because the race of men are fools and their kingdom is weak" Kessa said. "Then let us help them!" Wulfric answered back. "You are still young and know not the truth about war!... you are a fine swordsman my son, better than most of the elves I've mentored in the past, but your skill is not enough and your training incomplete" said Kessa Wulfric stood up straight and declared "I'am ready." Kessa turned to look at her ward, her eyes burning with anger and with a controlled voice said "You have not yet mastered the dance." Wulfric lowered his head and replied "People are dying... and I cannot just watch as I did before... when my parents were killed... these monsters... they were the same ones who killed them!" Wiping the tears from his eyes the young changeling continued "I have made up my mind, Thank you for everything tyraes..." And with those words, Wulfric left Kessa's cabin and, in the guise of a human for he kept to his true form when he stayed with Kessa, joined the Brelandar army where he was stationed at the frontlines defending it's people from Droam invaders. After the day of mourning, Wulfric finally understood what Kessa meant about the "truth about war", he resigned his post and returned to Kessa's Cabin. Wulfric and Kessa's reunion was both happy and sad, for while Kessa was pleased to see her errant son back, Wulfric found out that the old elf was dying... "Do not look so grey my son, there is still time enough for me to teach you the dance." Kessa declared as she took up her scimitars and motioned for wulfric to follow her movements.... Kessa died 3 months later, not in her bed but as a true Valenar, she died while fighting a group of ogres and managed to slay the group's ogremage leader before she drew her last breath and finally let go of her blades. Wulfric cremated her body near her cabin, he took her scimitars (Skycleaver and Skywatcher) as a memento of her and started his own journey and adventures... :) Note: Wulfric got his smoking habbit from his warforged warbuddy named Champion, who died saving wulfric's life. |

Hope he includes our tumbling compitetion... :) the_vesper: I'm still here, i'm still doing the draft for session 2,session 3 is already finished though (I didn't know that doing updates really takes much of my time. I don't know how BOK2 does it).Regarding the fabled tumbling competition, why don't you guys fill me in on this one, I only have vague memories of what really happened during that time (on account that I had a throbbing headache just visualizing such silliness). I would be posting session 2 soon, and 3 would be there afterwards. I suggest you guys post some quotes that your characters said (or would've said) during the adventure. It will give you something to do in the mean time. :twitch: |

It was still dark and they still have a couple of hours till sun up. The swordsman was asleep, curled up in his blankets with a pile of cigar stubs littered nearby. Randy slept lying on his belly, the gnome figured that the rogue’s snoring woke him up. It was lucky for them that Tritania was on guard duty. The gnome gathered his blankets and was about to go back to sleep when he glanced at the tree where Tritania should have been watching over them. “Tritania’s gone!” Thaulvern woke his companions immediately. Randy gave a start, and clutched the hilt of his shortsword nervously. Wulfric fished cigar out of his sleeve and lit it from the camp fire. “Where could she be?”, the gnome wondered. ”You mean we slept without someone watching over us, what if a T-rex suddenly came by and decided to have us for breakfast?” Randy shook at the thought. “Well, it’s no use talking about it now, we should get moving and search for her, she might be in trouble.” Wulfric said as he readied his pack. Ambush drakes The trio meandered through the jungle, lead by Wulfric (and his meager tracking skill) who somehow believes that he found the shifter’s tracks. The heroes found themselves on a clearing overlooking a vast swamp, and still the swordsman insisted that they were getting close (to what he’s the only one who knows). Thaulvern was the first to see three forms huddled some 40 feet beyond. They were the size of large mastiffs but with bullet shaped heads and gaping maws filled with vicious looking serrated teeth, blade like wings sprouted from their shoulders, and their overall appearance was obviously of a reptilian cast. Red interspersed with dark violet scales gleamed in the sunlight, there eyes were green radiant pools. The gnome mistook them for small dragons, but changed his mind, once the creatures growled at them when they skulked near the bushes. The gnome observed that these beasts moved in a manner akin to wolves. Randy Stormtouer went left as he drew his shortsword, Thaulvern cast mage armor, enveloping his small frame with a purple radiant screen. Clutching his scimitars, Wulfric was still looking at the ground for tracks oblivious of what his companions had seen. The beasts’ scaled hide stood on end like hackles when they saw the three interlopers, the first one moved like lightning towards the rogue, its haunches rippling with sinew, wicked claws making deep gauges in the soil. Randy was surprised how fast the creature closed the distance, he expected for the creature to fly with those scythe shaped wings though it didn’t, finally he decided that it reminded him of a rabid wolf on the charge. The creature’s maw filled with jagged saw-like teeth clipped his thigh, his leather breeches was ripped showing the skin of his left leg, for a moment he thought the beast only managed to ruin his pants, but the flesh began to bleed profusely, that was when he felt pain. The skin around the wound turned a sickly shade of green. When Randy realized that these monsters possess venomous as well as painful bites, then he remembered. The second beast went straight for Thaulvern, it snarled as it tried to bite the gnome, but its jaws struck an invisible field of force. The creature drew back and shook its head side to side. The remaining beast went for the swordsman, clumps of dirt flew as it charged teeth bared. Wulfric’s arm stretched forth 10 feet before the creature had a chance to bite him, the sinuous appendage entangled the beast’s forelegs, toppling it as it lost balance. The creature immediately righted itself and looked at Wulfric with astonishment, green eyes burning with hate. Randy back flipped towards the beast Wulfric just tripped so he can attack its flank. He aimed for the creature’s neck for a quick kill, (sensing the rogue’s intention) the beast lowered its head at the last moment, the shortsword struck the beast’s shoulder instead. Frustration marred Randy’s face. “Stay still so I can be done with you!”. Thaulvern couldn’t cast his spells safely while the dragon wolf was so close to him. He activated his boots of levitation and went for the sky. The beast leaped and managed to wound his shin with an awful bite. Blood soaked his boot, and as before, the skin around the wound turned green. Beads of sweat formed on the gnome’s forehead, “This is not good, not good at all.” He let arcane energy surge through him and released five motes of seething purple darts of force towards the offending beast. Where the missiles struck, scales peeled off and reptilian blood gushed out. Wulfric bared his twin adamantine scimitars with a flourish, dark metal glinted before finding scaled flesh, each hand weaving from one sword stance to the next with the fluid motion of the wind. Each sword stroke a complement of the other, both blades drawing blood repeatedly. The dragon wolf wore numerous wounds after that, but it held to life stubbornly. Wulfric finished his attack in a defensive position, left scimitar held horizontally in front the blade edge outward, the other arched over his head blade edge pointing upward. The first beast pursued Randy, claws and teeth ready for the kill, but the rogue found an opening as the creature leaped, he kicked the dragon wolf’s hind legs in mid stride. The dragon wolf fell to the ground, its legs sprawled at its side. Taking the momentum of the creature’s fall to his advantage, Randy flipped his shortsword, now blade point down, and stabbed at the creature’s face. Same as before the beast sensed that fatal strike just in time, and maneuvered its head to the side safely, then rolled and stood on four legs at the end. Randy only made a small wound on the dragon wolf’s haunch. “I’m not liking this one bit.” he said between breaths. Thaulvern was levitating twenty feet in the air, the dragon wolf’s claws and bite was useless in that height. It made as if to launch itself upward with those blade shaped wings. But instead of attacking, it just stared at Thaulvern menacingly. The gnome just taunted the creature, “What now, you upset about the magic missiles? I’ll fry you right now if my boys weren’t to close! Just wait till I…!”, a cone of bilious green smoke issued forth from the beast’s mouth. The gnome felt as if he was swimming through thick soup, but somehow he willed himself to resist. Shaking his head he looked at the dragon wolf with new found respect. “So that’s how you want to play it eh?” he blustered but somehow he didn’t sound convincing. The third dragon wolf with legs already shaking, strained just to keep standing. The numerous cuts and slashes across its hide took its toll. It knew that it wouldn’t last long, but somehow it decided to take the wicked swordsman with it. The beast drew all its remaining strength into one last desperate attack. Green reptile eyes flared, its hind claws digging trenches on the ground, the saw tooth maw clamped the swordsman’s side, jagged teeth ripped through the mail, teeth and chain segments were embedded into the changling’s flesh. Startled, Wulfric didn’t expect the beast to shatter his defense. His blood gushed through, drenching his coat in a spray of red. The dragon wolf reared its head, taking bits of armor and flesh in its maw, pain wracked Wulfric’s side. The wound turned green as the beast released him. Randy flinched at what the beast did to the swordsman, thinking how successful he was in tripping his dragon wolf, he decided to do the same on Wulfric’s opponent as well. The rogue tripped the swordsman’s beast. Getting weak as it was, the monster didn’t relent anymore and fell to the ground. Randy quickly stabbed it with his blade and killed it on the spot. The rogue’s neck hair stood as he realized that there was still a dragon wolf snarling behind him, so he back flipped and landed behind the swordsman, who was then standing on a small pool of blood (mostly Wulfric’s). Thaulvern pointed at the offending dragon wolf and released another set of purple force darts. The beast tried to dodge them to no avail for each connected unerringly. The creature’s red hide was made more crimson from each wound. “Told you I get you!” the gnome taunted again displaying his tongue. The beast made as if to leap but the wounds it took kept it grounded. So the gnome hurriedly increased his proximity from the creature by levitating another 20 feet for good measure, “Whoa! Can’t you take a joke?”. Through gritted teeth Wulfric approached the downed dragon wolf, blades flashed too quick that it seemed to be a continuous blur. The beast was reduced to a quivering mass of bleeding flesh. With a bounding leap, the remaining beast closed in, eyes intent on eviscerating the rogue. Randy shouted, saw like teeth dug into his shoulder, blood formed dark patches on his leather armor. Tumbling for his life, the rogue went behind the swordsman and consumed a potion, his wounds partially healed. Thaulvern fished a pearl of power from his pocket and licked it, arcane symbols surged through his brain, and once again the magic missile spell was restored in his memory. With hands slick with blood, Wulfric wove his scimitars into a wall of slashing blades, each cut making red lines on the dragon wolf’s hide. Weakening considerably the beast considered fleeing, but fury clouded its judgment so it fought on. A cone shaped blast of green smoke issued forth from the creature’s mouth, hitting the rogue and swordsman where they stood. Both heroes managed to shake the numbing torpor that gripped their limbs, their stubborn sense of self preservation not letting them succumb. Randy Stormtouer made a quick somersault that placed him behind the beast. Executing a circular kick, he tripped the dragon wolf. Too fast for eyes to follow, his blade slit the monster’s throat from which a geyser of blood spurted and made a shallow pool on the ground. With all the monsters dead, Thaulvern went down and found a humanoid corpse that the dragon wolves were huddled before. “A half eaten corpse, lizardfolk, from the looks of it, he’s been dead only a couple of hours or so.” the gnome noted. The corpse’ gear was nearby, Randy went for it and found three javelins with odd shaped serrated points, four stone rune carved cylinders wrapped in twine caught Thaulvern’s attention, while Wulfric took a quiver full of arrows, half the arrows mundane and the rest sporting broad heads and apparently ornately fletched. “By the way what were those things?” Wulfric asked as he blew a streamer of blue gray smoke. “Some kind of dragon kin by the looks of them, but frankly I don’t know what they were exactly.” Thaulvern admitted, his cheeks turned red either from embarrassment of not knowing or from being exposed to the mid day sun. “They are called ambush drakes, they’re common in the Xen’drik wastes. I wouldn’t believe they go as far as Q’barra if I didn’t see them with my own eyes. We were lucky there were only three of them, they usually hunt in packs twice that number…at least.” Randy explained while he nonchalantly picked his nails with the tip of his gleaming shortsword. His two companions just stared at him in awe, Thaulvern mildly annoyed and Wulfric with jaws open (he dropped his cigar in the process). Both wondered how this fellow got to know such information, either he read books about Xen’drik extensively, or went there personally. Thaulvern shook his head and looked at Wulfric, while the latter just shrugged and said in a hushed tone, “Well he calls himself ‘The Wanderer’, doesn’t he?”. The rogue and the swordsman tended their wounds, while the gnome took to the sky and surveyed their location. Thaulvern noticed a vast lake surrounded in the center of that swamp. At his vantage point, a sunken temple was clearly visible beneath the waters. Thaulvern rubbed his chin in thought, ”This is not Ka’rhashan but something tells me that that temple was an ancient lizardfolk burial site. I better tell the others and investigate the place fast. We sure could use Tritania’s help right now. But if luck smiles on us, we can find her there.”, somehow even he doubted his own words. Blackscale Lizardfolk The marsh was stretched out to the sea it seemed, but Thaulvern knew what he saw, and what he saw was a stone edifice under the lake beyond the marsh. Randy was not too keen on going through the swamp, Wulfric had his doubts, but he didn’t show it. “Well, it’s decided then, we go to the lake. Perhaps Tritania went there before us. But first hold this rope for me will you...” with a sigh, Wulfric got the other end of the rope pulling the levitating gnome with him as he waded through the muddy swamp. Randy looked at the gnome and shook his head. “What? And get my suit dirty…not in this lifetime!” the gnome said as if that was reason enough. Wulfric trudged through the muddy swamp and parted the reeds with a scimitar, the smoke from his cigar forming blue gray streamers as he passed by. Thaulvern examined the stone cylinders intently, not minding that he was 20 feet above water level and was being pulled forward by the swordsman below him with a stout rope. Randy followed with eyes alert, he gripped his shortsword nervously, he was not to keen on being attacked by a swamp dwelling creatures while waist deep in swamp water. “That’s it, these are keys!” Thaulvern bellowed in sudden realization. “Keys to what, the temple under that lake? You better find a way to get all of us there if you plan to use that! Not unless you have a spell that will make us grow gills!” Wulfric said between puffs of his cigar. Randy tugged at the swordsman’s coat, “Be quiet! I heard something move, stay low!” Wulfric let go of the rope tied to Thaulvern and drew his other scimitar. “Yes the stone cylinders are keys to that temple, and I have just the thing to get us there. I’m not some fool going into things unprepared. I’m a noble born gnome educated in the finest…are you two listening to me?” Thaulvern looked down to check on his companions but they all but vanished, instead he saw six massive shapes slowly rising from the marsh, water dripping from their scaled bodies in rivulets. They looked like ogre sized lizardfolk with frilled reptilian skull faces, their wet ebony scales gleaming in the sunlight. Most of them carried large stone clubs, while the rest reached for their backs, drawing barbed stone-tipped javelins the size of pikes. Their amber hued eyes looked straight at him, maws showing rows of triangular teeth in their version of a smile. Suddenly Thaulvern felt very alone, he thought of fleeing but the blackscales would only pepper him with those javelins before he could outdistance them. He reached for his rod of maximize spell and hurriedly released a miniscule red orb towards the lizardfolk. The front ranks wondered what the levitating gnome hurled at them, some even went nearer as if too catch it, but the javelin throwers blinked and quickly dropped their weapons as they scurried to get away, but they were too late. A raging blast of smoldering fire flowered and became a full sized fireball into their midst. Dark scales burned and flaked exposing the soft flesh beneath, which in turn blistered and charred. Dead lizardfolk carcasses floated belly up on the swamp’s surface, the smell sickly sweet. The gnome was swept back a few feet from the recoil of that blast, but he stabilized eventually when the smoke cleared. A lone massive form trailing smoke tried to stand up from the mire, it gazed at the gnome with equal parts hate and awe, but never fear. The lizardfolk hulk was about to throw its remaining javelin which it gripped tightly in one clawed fist. A small breeze made the swamp reeds sway and from it a blurred form dashed forth. Glinting metal struck the spot between the blackscale’s shoulder blades, a stifled roar escaped the creature’s half burned mouth. Blood gushed from the wound like a morbid fountain just before the lizardfolk toppled face down with a splash. The rogue landed on his feet right beside his victim’s body, he swatted his shortsword to get rid of the gore, and deftly replaced it in his scabbard. Wulfric rose from the swamp weeds where he was flung from the blast and stood beside Randy. He tried lighting a damp cigar from a patch of burning reeds but stopped as soon as he realized it was of no use, “Remind me not to get that gnome angry, I mean this is overkill even for my taste.”, he discarded the wet cigar. “And next time, tell him to warn us before unleashing hell on top of our heads like that, my trench coat is not flame proof.” , he whispered nervously not looking at the gnome bobbing in the air. The three reached the edge of the lake shortly, the placid waters so clear they could see the bottom depths in the noontime sun. A temple made of white colored stone lay approximately 50 feet straight down from where they were standing. They surmised that they would need strong lungs to be able to reach it. Thaulvern had a water breathing spell, but he had to prepare it first. So Wulfric suggested that they go back and make camp first before going on. Randy could do nothing but agree. YK 998 11th day in the month of Nymm Shambling Mounds It was Randy’s turn to hold the ‘leash’ as they called the rope that tethered the levitating gnome, Wulfric lead the way as usual. They chose a different route to bypass some unnecessary meetings with the swamp denizens and for the most part their decision proved successful until they were almost certain to reach the lake unmolested. Until they stumbled upon two submerged patch of vegetation. “Hey what are those things?” Wulfric asked. “Huh!? I think they’re swamp weeds that got caught by a branch, the currents must’ve made it bunch up like that, nothing to worry about.” Randy said absentmindedly, he was preoccupied by the rope that held Thaulvern. “Uh, Stormtouer, are you sure? There are no currents here! Are they suppose to move? I think they’re getting clo…” Wulfric drew his scimitars, but the rogue interrupted him eyes still on the leash. “I told you, they’re just swamp grass, now quit bugging me and help me pull my boots from the mud,,, ugh! “. A vine like tendril burst from the mire and lashed at the rogue, the assault formed a good sized welt on his face, blood snaked from his nose. “Get the hell out of there you fools! Those are shambling mounds, get away before they …!” Thaulvern shouted a little too late, another tendril slap passed inches from his chin, “So you want to play rough eh, take this you walking appetizer!”, five purple force darts whizzed pass Randy and struck the offending shambling mound’s torso. Another shambling mound rose from the swamp, whipping vine-like appendages, it attacked. Randy bent his body backward and avoided the first lash but the next tendril slap struck and took his legs from under him. The shambler hoisted him in the air and bashed him unto the mire face first. The first monster attacked again, Wulfric could’ve dodged easily if his boot didn’t get stuck in the mud. The tendril coiled around his body and began to squeeze tightly. Wulfric felt pain only after he heard his ribs crack for the third time, it took most of his will not to let go of his scimitars. Still levitating and relatively safe from the shambler’s reach, Thaulvern extended his arm and pointed at the monster holding the swordsman. A straight beam of fire speared through the shambler’s body. Wulfric escaped when the vine like coils went slack. Randy was grateful that his face only met mud instead of hard stone when he made his descent. The rogue rolled to his side and stood up, his shortsword lead the way as he lunged, the gleaming blade struck the wet green mass. The gnome was pulling his hair in frustration as he shouted again, “Give me room you dolts, I can’t make a clear shot with the two of…ugh!!, a tendril lashed at his ankle and was about to pull him down but suddenly the tendril sprung back and lost its hold on the levitating gnome. “That’s freedom of movement you overgrown salad! Praise the Traveler’s name! By the way, take this, fireball!” the gnome shouted, both hands gripped the rod of maximize spell which pointed dangerously at the monster. The swamp erupted as a huge ball of fire incinerated all in its wake, swamp water evaporated and swamp reeds burst in to flame. Smoke cleared. The two shambler’s burned as expected, but was still moving. Wulfric thought that he would get burned and closed his eyes instead (though he cursed the gnome for all his worth). He blinked and realized that he was well away from the blast radius. Randy was in the conflagration area, but he dove through swamp water before the fire even touched him. “Gaah! Damn you Thaulverne! You could get us killed if you keep that up!” he shouted back at the gnome shaking his fist as he resurfaced. The first of the shamblers to recover attacked the swordsman. On the defensive, the swordsman kept himself from getting hit. That changed when Wulfric changed tactics, he snapped his scimitars and began to dance. With his body as the axis of his twirling movement, the swordsman extended both arms, adamantine blades bared and angled for greater slashing power as each swing gained momentum. The shambler’s verdant mass was quickly chipped away as the scimitars struck with each devastating pass. Wulfric was in all places and none, only the splashing of the surrounding water was proof of his passage. He became a silhouette that whirled and spun faster like a dark bladed pinwheel, reducing the shambling mound to inanimate leafy ribbons. Wulfric was gasping for air by the end of that deadly dance the last lesson he learned from his long dead elven dervish mentor. It took much from him but he knew it would give results he desired. The other shambling mound lurched, and was about to lash at the exhausted swordsman, the rogue quickly darted in and stabbed the plant creature square on its torso but paid the attack no mind, ”Sometimes I wish all creatures have jugulars!” Randy cried out in frustration. Still the creature moved towards Wulfric seemingly undeterred. “Magic missile!” Thaulvern shouted as he waved a hand and pointed at the monster. The barrage of purple seething force darts made the shambler stop then it expired and lay dead as mulch, the tendrils stretched towards Wulfric curled back to the main mass. “Well, that is that! We might as well go on, yes?” Thaulvern said as he brushed the boot that the shambler mired earlier with a rag hastily fished from one of his coat pockets. Haggard and limping the two looked at him with eyes that could break stone. “Alright, I’ll heal you first.” was all the gnome could say as he made his way down. the_vesper: scene 2 will be posted next time. :D |

| BOK204-24-05, 01:22 AM | Finally a session update.... Three bumbling dolts lost in the swamp, trying to find the lizardmen's city but found a sunken temple instead. A temple filled with more trouble then they can handle... and the venue for Wulfric and Randy's tumbling competition!!! Where's Tritannia when you need her... Note: Wulfric discovered that carefully rolled shambling mound's leaves make good cigars, their resistance to fire makes them last longer... the problem is how do you light it... :) |

| Raede09-04-06, 03:00 PM | Hmm it's been a long while... Truly, an earth-shattering revelation. God, I've been subscribed to this for a really long time, thinking of starting the log again? (I tried to keep a log of my campaign but after about 4 sessions I stopped. It was taking hours to write everything down, and it's bad enough keeping a campaign going as a DM) |
