| Ch@pel11-28-04, 10:07 PM | Has anyone else noticed the countless errors in this book? Don't get me wrong it was still worth the money, and I love it, but c'mon, what does WotC pay the editors for? I do editing for the KC fansite for FREE and there's far less basic grammar and spelling errors in that. I'm not even talking about contradictions in fluff content or anything like that, just basic proofreading stuff. It seems I couldn't go more than two pages without some glaring error; sometimes the mispelling created a different word, making the overall meaning of the sentence unclear. For example, look at the maps for Middle and Upper Menthis. Two districts are represented twice, thereby leaving out labels for the two actual districts, which are described in the ward's section. You'd think with all the flack they've been getting about maps in the ECS, they'd, I don't know, check it a couple times before it hits shelves? |
| Edymnion11-28-04, 10:16 PM | WotC is not known for its excellent editing work. You should have seen the Stronghold Builder's Guidebook. It had entire castle descriptions that would just stop in mid sentance, mid paragraph, and move on to something completely differant. |
| mistakeagian11-28-04, 10:54 PM | I gave stronghold builders as a gift to a friend and he thought i removed pages :-P But, yes WoTC needs to get better editors. Even just line editors who check the work in progress could be a boon, then the normal editors wouldn't have so much to wade through. |
| Flack Jack11-28-04, 11:13 PM | This is probably not an error but it should be. Thy sky mage has d8 hit dice. P.S. I hope the errata team is getting this all down. |
| Hellcow11-29-04, 02:58 AM | This is probably not an error but it should be. Thy sky mage has d8 hit dice. I don't believe that this is an error. The sky mage only gets two caster levels out of a five-level PrC. It is designed to be useful to shapeshifting fliers such as druids, as well as wizards; in a sense, it is a specialist in aerial dueling as much as a traditional spellcaster. I'll pass it along, but my belief is that this is intentional. P.S. I hope the errata team is getting this all down. Well, "the book is full of errors" is not something the errata team will make note of; "On page 54 in the description of the Highhold, the district is repeatedly refered to as Holdfast" is. Speaking for myself, I would certainly appreciate it if people would post what errors they can find, since that's the best chance that they will be addressed in errata or future printings of the book. I doubt that typos or grammatical errors will be addressed unless they change the meaning of a sentence, but certainly things like mislabled maps or other major problems will be addressed eventually, and anything you find could be useful. |
| Tom McCarthy11-29-04, 03:23 PM | Not exactly an error, but... A map of Sharn, from Sharn: City of Towers, with a scale would be quite useful. |
| Hellcow11-29-04, 03:26 PM | Not exactly an error, but... I beg to differ. I am almost positive this was accidental - and I hope it can be addressed in some way in the future, even if it's just a "the scale is 1 inch to a mile." |
| EvilDrPuma11-29-04, 04:35 PM | If one imagines that the structures marked on the full-page maps are meant to be actual buildings (not necessarily true), and takes the largest visible towers at about 2,000 feet in diameter at the base per the text, then Keith's 1 inch to 1 mile seems pretty close to the mark. |

| Hellcow11-30-04, 02:35 AM | is that official ? No, just an off the cuff answer. |
| HeartlessDM11-30-04, 07:32 PM | I do editing for the KC fansite for FREE and there's far less basic grammar and spelling errors in that. You mean "there're" not "there's." Sorry, I couldn't resist! :) (I used to edit a fiction magazine.) That's one mistake that's become popular, btw, and appears in the newspapers. Go figure. <shrug> Spiros |
| Ormazd11-30-04, 07:47 PM | I do editing for the KC fansite for FREE and there's far less basic grammar and spelling errors in that. Also, it should be "far fewer" instead of "far less." Sorry, I'm a Latin teacher. Grammar errors make my blood boil. O |
| Ch@pel11-30-04, 10:03 PM | Okay, okay, okay, I'm sorry! ;) At least the sentence is still understandable, right? (And actually I think in that case, 'there's' is acceptable. I think it's one of those wierd unwritten new rules of grammar; I'm checking my MLA guidelines now. Though 'far fewer' is what I should have used.) You know what error makes me madder than anything? "The reason why is because..." OMG I HATE THAT! There is no need for 'reason', 'why', and 'because'; you just need one! |
| HeartlessDM11-30-04, 10:32 PM | Also, it should be "far fewer" instead of "far less." Sorry, I'm a Latin teacher. Grammar errors make my blood boil. O I noticed that as well. :) Okay, okay, okay, I'm sorry! ;) At least the sentence is still understandable, right? (And actually I think in that case, 'there's' is acceptable. I think it's one of those wierd unwritten new rules of grammar; I'm checking my MLA guidelines now. Though 'far fewer' is what I should have used.) You know what error makes me madder than anything? "The reason why is because..." OMG I HATE THAT! There is no need for 'reason', 'why', and 'because'; you just need one! Re-read your sentence, but don't use contractions. You'll see that the singular 'is' is wrong and the plural 'are' is correct. But yes, this is something that's becoming VERY common. As I said, even newspapers are printing "there's" when they should be using "there're." <shrug> As long as the point gets across, however, the language being used is working. Back to Sharn... | Ch@pel11-30-04, 11:17 PM | Is this my high school english teacher? Mrs. Prince, is that you? I promise, it's rare that I let errors like that through, this will never happen again. And the irony is not lost on me either. I know I'm wrong. Please stop pointing it out. Please. ;) |
| Blizzard_Bobsan12-03-04, 02:36 AM | p. 136 Watch Patrol stat block - the damage with a sap should be 1d6+1 |
| Serpentine12-03-04, 10:36 AM | There're is a colloquial contraction, like ain't and where're, isn't it? That's pretty much unacceptable in proper writing as well. (It also kind of looks like the name of a drow city.) |
| nyysjan12-03-04, 10:51 AM | I know i'm sounding like a smart ass but i cant resist :D There are no Drow cities in Eberron (That we know of) (Don't take me seriously :P ) |
| Blizzard_Bobsan12-03-04, 12:33 PM | p. 74 Second column, first paragraph of the Smoky Towers' description - "Torchlight" should be "Torchfire" (replace twice) |
| Gez12-03-04, 02:45 PM | There are no Drow cities in Eberron There's not any Drow city in Eberron. :P |

| HeartlessDM12-04-04, 04:56 PM | There're is a colloquial contraction, like ain't and where're, isn't it? That's pretty much unacceptable in proper writing as well. (It also kind of looks like the name of a drow city.) "There're" is just the contraction of "there are" and should be used when referring to the plural. "There's" is the contraction of "there is" or "there has" and refers to the singular. <shrug> I'm seeing "there're" less and less and noted that even newspapers are using "there's" where they shouldn't. "Ain't" has never been proper. :-) If you want to know what contraction to use, just don't use the contraction to see what the words are, then contract them. But this is getting WAY too detailed. Eberron's ain't got none Drow citys in its because of reason that is being their in Forgotten Realms allot. Beat That GrammerSMITHES! HA! LOL! Excellent! :D Spiros |
